One of the few bands that have still got it going on today. When i go see them I never feel that ageing band cringe factor, they're still cool as fuck, that sound never gets old.
@michaellorenzen8200 -You're so right! Between 10th and 11th is a truly seminal, yet absolutely underrated, and frankly, unheard album here in the USA. Shame, too, because I play that album to this day!
Wow, a friend and I sneaked through someone's garden to sit on a piece of woodland overlooking the festival site, to listen to this. We could hear it clearly, and it seems like only yesterday. Great memories.
Saw these guys in New York City at the Academy Theater -- it was the tour in 1992 to support the "Between 10th and 11th" album. An amazing show, even from up in the balcony! That album along with "Some Friendly" always bring me back to my final year of college and the first year after in NYC starting my career and life as an adult.
Thank you for the upload. The first 2 albums of Charlatans are in the top of my collection. Is difficult to find an album that you can play from beginning to end without skipping tracks. Not the case with this albums.
lyrically & vocally Tim mostly lost me after some friendly. There’s so much more to listen in on, to hear Rob playing, One to Another is great, the words are little rhymeeeee & bratty
I appreciate the pun! Between 10th and 11th was, and is IMO their masterpiece, hands down! A lot would say Sproston Green, but, the production with Flood took them to another level! I still rock "the bananas" album to this day!!!
Just beautiful, terrific & brilliant... saw them this tour @ Dallas Starplex with Pearl Jam et. al. Wish they still covered more of the 1st 5-6 years in shows now, foundations!!! Seeing this core line up, again, just beautiful!!!
36:17- 44:21...Goodness!!! I saw this set in NYC at The Ritz and got high without taking any drugs, well maybe I got a contact high, but really, I reached nirvana. THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!
Nice 1 brother. An original classic, raw. Had the pleasure of seeing the Charlie's for 3 decades live, mainly London Manchester and Birmingham. Late 80s, early 90s, they where tremendous and saw them in Brum 2017 top band live. Tims lyrics wtf x peace love and serenity ✨️
All the glitches must have been on the master...My copy was exactly the same. Cheers for posting as I no longer have a vhs player, still got the vid though. 😁
@@AndrewBooker-gc4fe Is this what? If you mean glitchy, it's the same as the copy that I had. Mostly early on and minor. Great vid well worth a watch....🤔
Got to see this set in Portland, OR and they were ON that night too. Remember the floor physically flexing under us when they powered into Sproston Green. Wasn't safe / didn't care.
I was also there! As I recall (probably incorrectly, we had the manics and Radiohead the same afternoon! I remember being down the front and it got pretty scary, piles of people. Great day (although remember Radiohead weren't great). I think Nirvana headlined Sunday, it pissed with rain and the car got stuck. The manics were fantastic, and I love this!
Does anyone remember a Charlatans gig that was broadcast around 92 on TV? I remember it was amazing and been trying to find it on RUclips, and like this one I probably have it on VHS in the loft. Was probably BBC2 or Channel 4 and late at night. I think Tim was wearing an Addidas top/Tshirt. Can't remember if it was a TV studio, or a recorded gig - but it wasn't a spot on a music show.
Think you're talking about Butt Naked on Channel 4... I've got one song from it but the rest are on RUclips too ruclips.net/video/K4gZLaJaeb8/видео.html
Good find! No denying the band were a little on their arses by the time this gig came around and Rob stepped up to the plate to stamp his Hammond authority all over it. Select's (I think) review at the time praised the swamp of dry ice and "surely the best Hammond Organ sound ever achieved in a public place". I remember hearing it on Radio 1 and 'Out' sounded tremendous (which is why it's such a shame it ended up as a somewhat weedy b-side on 'Can't Get Out of Bed' as opposed to a barnstorming 3rd album opener....)
I was relatively young when The Charlatans did this gig - so my only exposure was radio, etc. What do you mean by them being a bit on their arses? Genuine question!
@@Soulrollsdeep Really after Between 10th and 11th stiffed commercially and critically (certainly compared to Some Friendly), the band "savaged, quite unjustifiably, by the press" as Radio DJ Mark Goodier put it in an article. By Reading 'grunge' was definitely in and baggy and Madchester were yesterday's news (with something to prove). Seems it was not a particularly easy album to make and I guess the band have an uneasy relationship with it as a result. It's a record that takes a lot of love to get into - if anything it was the record that taught me to really listen - but at the time it was something of a disappointment, the spacious production just about papering over the cracks in the (lack of) songs and the dispirited lyrics. Telling that they'd then go back to basics and decamp to Wales to make Up To Our Hips (only this time it wouldn't be the departure of a guitarist that'd shake them but, well, y'know, everything Rob Collins)....
Well said, I thought between 10th & 11th was a great album when it came out but by then the music press had put the knifes into anything mancunian...I was there at this and thought they were great, nirvana headlined the next night and they were playing to a grunge audience...pissed down for nirvana's show !!! Anyway always great to see Rob Collins's & Jon Brooke's playing, top musicians
@@robertcjonesesq8241 Absolutely. With the Roses AWOL and the Mondays far from Happy The Charlatans just seemed a little lost as to what direction they were heading in in '92. I thought they were near enough done but hearing the chunky surge of 'Out' (and this gig in general) gave me hope....
92/93 were odd years looking back, acid house had turned to trance/techno and too heavy and druggy for me, grunge had taken hold, some of which was pretty good, but in 94 we had the Roses second coming, up to our hips, oasis' first album which was great and black grape shortly after...shame really as britpop then took over and all in all was pretty shit lol !!! Not forgetting flowered up and world of twist 2 great bands

I was there, young and alone, in the middle of the crowd. Great memories, i think Rob Collins was a true artist.
Fkin liar 🤥
First 5 albums for me are their greatest. Never seen a band so many times.
U was a fan I going to cry🍊🤧
Piss takes to he piss like what u doing now lol I mean it comes on we fans of your s
I'm a fan of u now Sean love it like some Saturdays
Rob Collins was quite the performer on the hammond organ. RIP mate
RIP Rob, what a performance. and Jon too, great lads gone far too soon.
The energy, completely blown away everytime I see this, modern music doesn't come close.
there’s always new music to be surprised by
Always liked their drumming. Great snare.
Always thought that tight snare on the weirdo era had to be a metal piccolo but whatever it is a big wood shell tuned high!
Wow, a friend and I sneaked through someone's garden to sit on a piece of woodland overlooking the festival site, to listen to this. We could hear it clearly, and it seems like only yesterday. Great memories.
Lucky 🎃
Rob and Jon electrifying as standard. This is my fave era of The Charlatans. First 3 LPs are the pinnacle of their career for me.
And not the 4th? I like the progression up to Tellin' Stories. Bit patchy afterwards tho'. Gun to head ....Hips is my fave.

Best band ever. I've been to every show they played in Toronto. Wouldn't miss them for the world.
