As I’m learning Dutch, I’ve been watching as many Dutch films as I’m able to find - which surprisingly and unfortunately is pretty limited (what I can find in the US but also generally from my research). I’ve just watched “Just Say Yes” and it was super jarring to see a lead actress in an actual film with a BBL and tons of facial filler. You see that everywhere in Hollywood and low brow/trashy/reality TV, but never in actual films. I wonder how accurate the representation of Dutch women is in that movie? Seems very different than what is described in the comments and this RUclips video
I’m an American who’s lived in Europe (Stockholm, Sweden) for 10 years now and I think Dutch women are by far the most beautiful and stylish in Europe! I go to the Netherlands several times per year and have many friends there and I’m always impressed with their unique clothing and stylish hair. Swedish women are obsessed with only buying hipster clothing brands and wanting to look exactly like everyone else whereas the Dutch are more individualistic (and that’s much more attractive in my opinion).
I have been to other European countries and I think this is very true. I was a bit offended by the Italian lady who says we throw something on... Because I think that's exactly what a Dutch woman doesn't do. But maybe she was talking more about make-up and hair. Yeah we don't care about that a lot.
What? My husband, English, just to emphasize further difference would not agree fully with that. Dutch ladies can be stylish but that is so random. To see Dutch woman having make up done is a mostly magic or they are not native Dutch. Style here is very simple. Leather jacket, any type of Jean's, chinos, leggings will do and boots, never cleaned up and polished. And bag. Or MK or any other similar. Never seen women in suit, high heels. But if you consider the philosophy here just don't stick out. It's pretty natural.
Anthony from the USA is spot on.. we ARE totally into fashion, but imagine: doing your hair up, putting on make-up and a pretty dress then stepping outside to cycle to school or work, with hard wind (bye hair), rain (ruined makeup) and an average temperature of 18 degrees (brrr in a dress), makes no sense AT ALL.
It really depends on the person. I have seen really fashion oriented women, casual simple women, and also really unique, cute, and flashy on their own way. The "doe normaal" is STRONG on this topic though. What they say, that there is a major part that just "blend in" with how they dress and style themselves is true. But also there is something that i really appreciated when i was there, and it's that no matter how i dressed i didin't feel judged or observed at all. Everyone minds their own business, or at least don't show it haha. I can't wait to be back.
Me, a Dutch girl: not confident, very short, never showing my body off, don't own Nikes, hate animal print, don't own a leather jacket, having a hard time relaxing, don't have a pretty/charming face, not strong at all 🤣👌 I did recognise some other traits though, and I definitely know the type of girl they're talking about.
Her hair is naturally curly, which is different from the electro shock example she used, she basically meant that girl don't put much effort in their hair and probably just go out how they already are. It's different from natural hair, don't bash.
Dressed up for you can mean something else for another person. She might see that as dressed up and you might find it casual. We all have different opinions, that's life.
@@GreyMonix That is why a lot of these answers/comments in the video are pointless. It is all the perspective of the person who is 'judging' how others are dressed. Cultural behaviour is also part of the differences between nationalities.
Jade Summers . I just think if you call other people not dressed up, you should have something to show for it. If I passed her on the streets, I would actually think she was Dutch 😂
Dutch women are beautiful, tall, into fashion, straight forward, strong and self confident. Yes we take our kids to school on our bikes during a heavy storm and still look good doing it.
The one who ‘accuses’ Dutch women of having ‘electric’ hair has it herself and looks plain as can be (for an Italian...). The older US woman talks about large boned women in NL but comes from a country with lots of obese people who wear clothes that are way too tight 🤔. Most of the other comments are also hardly recognisable to me (as a Dutch woman). But call me crazy.
Me as a dutch person (who travelled alot): this is sooo true lol. Indeed women here dont care as much about fashion and their appearance, and i think its becuz of the other thing mentioned sometimes in the video: they feel more comfortable and have more confidence with who they are.
I think they actually do. But it's more understated and refined. Nice hair and neat clean appearance, good skin, minimal makeup. Its a lot of attention to make it seem like "you just are naturally pretty".
@@collection6062 that minimalist attention you talk about shows that they don't care... these things don't require 'a lot of attention' but just a little bit. In other countries women also pay the basic attention to neat clean appearance, good skin, make up, but on top of that care more about fashion and looking extra pretty.
When someone says “ Dutch girls look like they had an electric -shock and liked the way their hair looked “ while she looks like she could use some products ... GIRL! Here is some curl control & and curling iron . Maybe a bit of heat protection and here a bit of hairspray 🙃🤪 ! ( feels very attacked by here )
Just came in from cycling a few hours (needed to pick something up a few tows away) and was laughing my arse off when I heard this comment. Even after all this, my covid-style-hair looks better! (It should, after being blow-dried, wetted down, blow-dried again for many km's by Mother Nature!)
This is stereotypical of the “farm” girl from Netherlands, brought up for generations with healthy dairy products so they have strong bones and genetically very robust and strong. Just like the Dutch that came to South Africa. The men like me are all big and play rugby and eat a lot and are confident. We are very nice and straight forward people.
So, I am not the only one to think that Dutch people are very practical and simple in the way of living and dressing which is I like it. It fits me well.
We see splitting the bill as equality. If I am on a date with a girl, I will feel uncomfortable if she wants to pay the entire bill. To me, it seems like she thinks that I cannot pay for myself. We favour social equality and directness; so, it would be disrespectful to not even ask for splitting the bill. Also, about being cheapskates, The Netherlands is actually very generous! We love to share our knowledge, our skills and even our money with everyone who needs it. The Netherlands is one of the biggest donators to development programs in the world. We spend MORE money on development projects than China, The United States and Japan all together and…. we don’t ask anything in return! It may look stupid in your eyes (go see an optician), but that’s just the way we are. Dutch people believe that they have a responsibility to share our skills, knowledge and wealth with people who need it.
I have Chinese parents, and what I love about the Netherlands is that social status matters a lot less than in China. In China people will look down on you if you are a construction worker, or even delivery person. This includes not wanting to look poor. Chinese people would even spend all their money just to buy something to not look poor. I rarely encounter that in the Netherlands.
Can't help myself... A guy from the UK saying there's not a lot of sun in the Netherlands? And funnily enough, the American lady on overweight girls' clothing, is exactly how I felt about American women. Not trying to be facetious, genuinely loving the content.
Some things are true for example that we are confident but I think you are in the wrong country. Every woman is different in her own way. Some woman like to dress up and some woman not that much. I went to Brazil and there you have also woman that like to dress up en some woman not so what is wrong with that. The important thing is that you feel confident and beautiful.
Just an ordinary opinion from dutch folks 🙃 I am actually a girl from the Netherlands and I travel much through the Netherlands so I actually have friends all around and well.. i get that most of these things that are said are they’re look on “dutch girls” but I just could not disagree more when listening to them.. like I did find the part where they where talking about our freedom and own choices of what we wanted to be very precise on what is actually very common here, But when they were talking about that we as “woman in general” feel less insecure about ourselves and or don’t really care about how we dress Really irrelevant, many woman and or girls are of course sometimes insecure about themselves, and yes sometimes we say “F it” ya know but most of the time it’s just a mask to put on to look stronger.. I actually did discuss these story’s with more of my family and friends but most of us agree that, : yes we like to wear what is comfortable and or what feels right but it doesn’t have to mean that that’s“not stylish “ we are all different yet very the same..as one of my friends said to me: “it is many times talk like this that actually sometimes are the cause of some girls thinking they need to change because you are revering to “Girls” or well said people who are under the age of 18, these girls are most of the time really insecure about themselves (wow even In the Netherlands?? YES) and just want to get to adulthood without people shaming they’re body’s or they’re dressing style and many teenage girls are very insecure about they’re skin so yea it’s sometimes kinda rude to point out the fact “the Girls rarely wear make-up” wich btw is not always true if you are actually revering to girls under 18 here than I can say that many normal school girls wear makeup”. I am really not attacking these people but some things just did not click for me like.. We are all woman and we all know how hard it is to be judged so much on our appearance, we don’t just take what falls out of our closet of course not it falls out off the closet because we are just desperate to find that one thing in there that we needed to wear on this specific day. You don’t have to agree with me and all these people that I discussed this with whoem (Most) of them are all originally from The Netherlands Sincerely from.. Just a girl from The Netherlands ✨ Hope you’re having a great day 🌷
Unless our women wear shirts with mold on their shoulders and jeans covered with mud, I think they're fine. Taking care of yourself is perceived differently in every country and therefore has a different meaning. Dutch women don't walk on high heels very frequently, but have you ever tried walking in high heels over our streets? Made of cobblestone? Do you want our women to have broken ankles? Also, wearing a tight dress with high heels just isn’t comfortable. Many Dutch women are cycling to work or to the station, nobody got time for that other shit. We like being comfortable, men and women alike, so jeans and sneakers are a big thing in The Netherlands. And when it comes to make-up, we like it natural. Just use your best features and enhance them just a little bit. Nothing more needed. Even better, go without make-up! Also, we favour social equality and directness. Don't expect Dutch men to hold the door open for you, because last time we checked, you had two functioning hands to do it yourself.
Not even Dutch but agree with everything said here. About the door tho, here in DR we hold the door for the people behind us, it's courtesy. Not like a worldwide rule tho.
Holding doors open is something you do when the woman has two heavy groceriebags, a disability, a broken arm, when it's an older lady or (occasionally) when you're on a date. And also, randomly, if she's *right* behind you and you open a door. But holding it open as a courtesy, every _damn_ time would be exhausting. As a woman, I appreciate it every now and then. But when I'm on a date and I'm being "guided" through the city, like a fragile puppet, I feel insulted.
Dutch woman are more ladyblike/feminine than a tomboy, but also more of a tomboy than being a ladylike/feminine. The one made the remark of dutch woman being homogenous is very true. It's like the meme of all blond are alike, it kind of fit here. But that is also for the dutch man not just woman. Its quite homogenous here how people dress and act.
Dutch girls are pretty practical and confident, from all the girls I've met here. I like it. It's really refreshing especially since you gotta bike everywhere lol.
I think these people didn't meet much Dutch girls. They seem to have a lot of bias. While I think Dutch girls are very versatile and openminded and practical. You have them in all sorts, from wearing high heels vs boots, from natural make up vs no make up vs expressive make up. Fashionistas vs have your own style Etc. Etc. About all woman topics.
One time, I asked my Dutch boyfriend what nationality is the prettiest, he said Swedish. There are of course beautiful women in every nationality (I reminded him Doutzen Kroes is a gorgeous Dutch) but he said that most of Swedish women he saw/meet are all pretty/beautiful. Nope, I don’t have any Swedish blood lol. I’m full blooded Filipina.
Lol that's the Dutch for you. Telling his asian, brown haired, brown eyed girlfriend straight out he prefers blonde, blue eyed european woman. If nothing else the Dutch are predictable direct.
JRS UK Hahaha. I love his honesty- makes him so genuine and authentic. As for his opinion, I don’t mind it as I know I’m the prettiest in his eyes 😂 and I adore his answer actually because tons of blonde women lust after him. And he makes me feel like a goddess of my own ☺️
Im Brazilian and I lived in the Netherlands, a lot of things said here are just plain wrong. Overweight? No, the Netherlands have of the lowest obesity rates in the developed world. Some things are true though, like what the girl from Hungary said about it being very homogoneous in the way people dress and act, there is a big culture of conformity.
I have to agree with being confident. I think it’s how they (most are) raised as kids. Also Fedor describing Russian and NL society at 5.06 made me laugh. It’s funny because it’s true 😂
I'm from the Netherlands and come from Limburg, which is a bit more conservative. But still, in my youth I had many girlfriends and most of them did the first step instead of me. I was a bit slow (or shy)....That's how Dutch women were when i was young... not waiting for the guy...
It hasn't changed much. I think men are even more terrified now, to make the first move, as even winking at a woman could be considered sexual harrasment nowadays. Which is complete rubbish. On topic: truly hope chivalry isn't completely dead. If a man opens the door for you, it's just nice. Doesn't make anyone less independent.
Most of what these people say is so true. Super casual style, everyone looks the same and woman hardly ever high heals. And idd, theres no use of doing our hair, step outside and the wind and humidity have ruined it all 🤣
To be fair, our (dutch) hair is often messy, because the weather is crappy. We live in a very windy country, that get’s humid in the summer aswell. Every time my hair is nicely done, our obnoxious weather ruins it. Riding bicycle doesn’t match well with neat hairdo’s either.
It's sad that traits which are leftovers from a more chauvinistic era (paying for the woman - she wouldn't have her own money; opening doors - she's too weak to fend for herself; etc) are considered "lacking" by some of these people's cultures. Let me keep my independence, flats, and certainty in my own value and skill as a human - who cares about my sex.
Dutch women do appreciate holding the door and taking their coats, although its less of a necessity. In my relationship, my girlfriend and i are equal, although i insist to carry the heavier stuff, because its more practical... Doesn't mean she doesn't carry stuff at all. Dutch women do not like restrictions, inequality and they do like to be most independant. Even in household chores, we both do things we're best at. Washing is divided into seperate parts, she divides the clothes and operates the machine, whilst i hang it up, fold it and put it back in all clausets. (except for hers, she has her own ways of putting the clothes back) Practical and pretty is what girls commonly like, in the Netherlands.
We always open the door if she comes home with the groceries by bike in the rain. We thankfully take the beer out of the bags to help her, take a glass and sit on the couch.
We might not be the prettiest ones or the best dressed but we're at least not shallow and arrogant like Italians for whom only their looks concern. Dutch ladies are naturals: life isn't about looking good, it about being happy and be good to others
In some ways I feel attacked but flattered at the same time 😂 Americans and Dutch people are really alike... it’s just that we Dutch people are a bit more direct and stuff. But fashion and confidence is pretty much at the same level, that’s what I think though.
I can definitely agree on this, sad thing is. Most girls in my town (yes i am dutch) do care About what they look like before they leave their house and wear a lot of designer and/or mainstream clothes. Litteraly so many girls here try to look the same as each other ‘cause it feels safe to them. Which is a shame because i can agree that our girls are Unique and beautiful!
Note to the italian girl (and others): Milano is like a big catwalk. Its not representative for the rest of italy. In the country sides of italy (and other countries), people have electric hair, wear sportsuits, nikes, and other confortabel suits. I slept on different italian campings with only italian people, and they are not as fashionable as in the big city, which is totalmente a posto.
As a 53 year old woman from the Netherlands I don't recognize a lot in this first few minutes of this conversation.. Every girl/woman I know is insecure and it takes hours in the bathroom...
I think there is quitte a big difference if you talk about dutch girls who live in the big cities and the ones who live outside in the province. So maybe this is a video about dutch girls from Amsterdam/Rotterdam/Urrecht?
Yeah, have dutch women wear heels, they'll bump their heads everywhere. Also, weather here doesn't allow for a lot of clothing options. In the little bit of summer we do have most women do put in more effort i think. A lot more collor and personal identity is put into how they look. For the rest it is just jeans and coats cause the weather sucks.
I'm Dutch and I do stand out A LOT here fashion wise, seeing as I've adopted a modern variant of the 40s and 50s fashion (New Look/Dior). Which is quite a stretch from the more casual jeans and top- style most women wear. Which - the American guy was part right - also is a practical choice lots of times. But according to most of the people in my neighbourhood I'm definitely different with my heels (I'm only 1.58m though😆), a different dress or skirt every day and even hats, petticoats and gloves. I love it and it makes me feel *me* the most. I can get nasty comments about it, but also plenty compliments. Living in a poorer suburb of Haarlem it's all jeans and simple jackets here. In the centre you certainly see different styles: preppy, alternative, 70s inspired, business chic or very Instagram-y. I however do think that these people have it all wrong to say Dutch girls or women wear whatever falls out of their closet. No freaking clue who they meet, but in my 43 years in this country I've maybe met only 1 person like that and it always had a reason (self esteem issues or they have a job that asks for very simple practical stuff). If we weren't into fashion then fashion magazines and shows wouldn't do so well here. Compared to Italy and perhaps France (but also the big cities there) we could do much better, but I've travelled and Dutch women definitely take care of themselves in comparison. I have both an academic and a creative background and lived in Utrecht and parts of Noord-Holland : the type they describe IS here, but you can't say it's THE Dutch girl. And thank heavens we don't do the hysterical- full- makeup designer clothing US highschool chick style! Speaking of the US: that lady saying we're often obese compared to her nation...🤣🤣🤣🤣. FFS... is she for real?! The average Dutch clothing size for women - according to the latest numbers I read in 2019, so it could be slightly altered now - is a EU40, which is a size 10US. I believe the average US size for women/girls is a 16! And that's even on a tinier woman height wise. Not to mention the truly morbid obese ones of which they also have a much larger relative %.
I have to disagree with the man about dutch women being taller. It has nothing to do with sunshine. Dutch people consume more milk and other dairy products. The calcium and protein in dairy products can make you grow taller and big boned, starting when you are young.
All these women are oblivious of dutch culture. Dutch women are some of the classiest in the world. They are moderate, smart and for style they have their own style! Not like those over the top butt obsessed brazilian and american women of course! Pls dontyeven compare dutch women to russian women! Russian women are known for being??? I’m not dutch but i live here and know some of the classiest women that are dutch compared to... hurm brazilian? Lol

@Teringventje
He/she was giving us a compliment. Don't harass.
I have been to other European countries and I think this is very true. I was a bit offended by the Italian lady who says we throw something on... Because I think that's exactly what a Dutch woman doesn't do. But maybe she was talking more about make-up and hair. Yeah we don't care about that a lot.
Thank you
Completely right your analysis. Perfect the parallelism between swedishes and Dutchs.
Me, a Dutch girl: not confident, very short, never showing my body off, don't own Nikes, hate animal print, don't own a leather jacket, having a hard time relaxing, don't have a pretty/charming face, not strong at all 🤣👌
I did recognise some other traits though, and I definitely know the type of girl they're talking about.
Tali same 😂

“Were obsessed with fashion” says the one wearing a polca dot top red glasses, pearl eaarings and hair that also looks electro shocked sooooo..
Meh, I like her style. It's kind of retro. Her hair is curly and curly hair cut short becomes very practical.
I don't agree with her opinion though.
Haha yeah when she was talking about elektrick shocked hair I instantly noticed her own hair.

Her hair is naturally curly, which is different from the electro shock example she used, she basically meant that girl don't put much effort in their hair and probably just go out how they already are. It's different from natural hair, don't bash.
2:50 Did the lady with the print t-shirt, black jacket and straight hair hanging down call herself dressed up?
Pretty sure she was wearing a full face of make-up and styled her hair.
Dressed up for you can mean something else for another person. She might see that as dressed up and you might find it casual. We all have different opinions, that's life.
@@GreyMonix That is why a lot of these answers/comments in the video are pointless. It is all the perspective of the person who is 'judging' how others are dressed.

Hey I was looking for this comment! Especially the "electric shock" part - with that hair style - how dare she! 🤯

I love the explanation of the guy in the dark green shirt! It indeed doesn't make sense to wear a lot of make up when its windy
Dutch girls aren't just made to love, they're also made to last.
Just an ordinary opinion from dutch folks 🙃
I am actually a girl from the Netherlands and I travel much through the Netherlands so I actually have friends all around and well.. i get that most of these things that are said are they’re look on “dutch girls” but I just could not disagree more when listening to them..
like I did find the part where they where talking about our freedom and own choices of what we wanted to be very precise on what is actually very common here,
But when they were talking about that we as “woman in general” feel less insecure about ourselves and or don’t really care about how we dress Really irrelevant, many woman and or girls are of course sometimes insecure about themselves, and yes sometimes we say “F it” ya know but most of the time it’s just a mask to put on to look stronger..
You don’t have to agree with me and all these people that I discussed this with whoem (Most) of them are all originally from The Netherlands
Sincerely from.. Just a girl from The Netherlands ✨
Hope you’re having a great day 🌷
Unless our women wear shirts with mold on their shoulders and jeans covered with mud, I think they're fine.
Wow perfect beschreven!
@@margaritalambregts8928 mijn man doet altijd deur voor me open vind zeker dikke plus punt .
"They wear not high heels.. "
That's because we are allready tall.
Dutch don't like to stand out, but if they do everybody notices.

I wish the question had been phrased, "What do you think about Dutch women?" Meisjes = girls. Vrouwen = woman.
Dutch women have always been practical and very down to earth.
Same goes for the men.
Most of what these people say is so true. Super casual style, everyone looks the same and woman hardly ever high heals. And idd, theres no use of doing our hair, step outside and the wind and humidity have ruined it all 🤣
They are so cool headed! When you speak to one you will love it.
The Dutch lead the way in biking. Love negotiating ADam. Love the Dutch and the Netherlands.
Thank you for our women and girls

Holy moly, the girl from Pakistan looks amazing 🤓
Dutch women do appreciate holding the door and taking their coats, although its less of a necessity. In my relationship, my girlfriend and i are equal, although i insist to carry the heavier stuff, because its more practical... Doesn't mean she doesn't carry stuff at all.
Dutch women do not like restrictions, inequality and they do like to be most independant.
Even in household chores, we both do things we're best at. Washing is divided into seperate parts, she divides the clothes and operates the machine, whilst i hang it up, fold it and put it back in all clausets. (except for hers, she has her own ways of putting the clothes back)
Practical and pretty is what girls commonly like, in the Netherlands.
We always open the door if she comes home with the groceries by bike in the rain. We thankfully take the beer out of the bags to help her, take a glass and sit on the couch.
I want a dutch girl, they're perfect for me..
We might not be the prettiest ones or the best dressed but we're at least not shallow and arrogant like Italians for whom only their looks concern. Dutch ladies are naturals: life isn't about looking good, it about being happy and be good to others
Me being Dutch: I’m 16 and 1.56m
I wear oversized clothes because I’m not confident about my body...
PLEASE NOT ONLY LOOK AT AMSTERDAM! Thank you😁
In some ways I feel attacked but flattered at the same time 😂 Americans and Dutch people are really alike... it’s just that we Dutch people are a bit more direct and stuff. But fashion and confidence is pretty much at the same level, that’s what I think though.
i've lived in america for a year, clothing is really diffrent.

3:27 : *VMBO girls have left the chat*
Could you elaborate on that?
I have to disagree with the man about dutch women being taller. It has nothing to do with sunshine. Dutch people consume more milk and other dairy products. The calcium and protein in dairy products can make you grow taller and big boned, starting when you are young.
It was a joke from the men. A bad one I agree😂😂
