90% of gamblers quit before hitting it big On all seriousness though tds has some pretty serious grinding requirements for things like golden perk or accelerator. I also suffer from boredom grinding for things. The thing is, when i was a new player, i didn't have any other tower. My humble beginnings were awesome because i always wanted to beat all three gamemodes easily. Even when grinding for very tedious things i never got bored really. That is until past ducky event. The engineer grind completely burnt me out, and something just changed. After i got active again i wasn't grinding or playing the game nearly enough as i used to. This became apparent when i had to grind for the rest of my missing perks, something just wasn't right. maybe one day an update will revive that flame that wouldn't extinguish, but for now im just moving along through the dirt completely unamused or challenged.

Even if Pixel Gun TD kind of lost its player base, it is still powerful and unique compared to others, and you would have a reason to play on a new map since you can get extra rewards for doing so. Lucas tower defence has the same thing, with the exception of constant events, and a way to keep his gaming community happy with gears and memes. It also has tower hp and that towers can die if enemies attack it too much which makes it unique compared to most others.
The video is great and all, but I'll just like to say, the TDS devs didn't just lose the love and passion to TDS, they aren't teenagers in their parents houses anymore, and they need to make money to bring bread to the table. The devs do care about TDS, but they need to act more professionally now, as they're in charge of a massive game and the devs don't have that much time to just talk regularly with people in general.
@@dodoking6361if ur looking at act 3 again, there’s supposed to be lore extension but the stage/map of the event that play the lore got all burned down by us, the players grinding UGC non-stop. Hence the narrator got pissed off and wanted to kill us to not letting us not spreading his failure. Act 3 is just fourth wall break act.

In terms of 2 of 3 points you mentioned, Tower Battles is a really good TD game. It's different from most TD games in Roblox in that it has a good pvp mode which also makes it more replayable. Now, I will say that for beginners, TB is brutal to start off with since survival mode is very difficult without endgame towers so the only reliable way to grind coins is through versus. This can be either a good or really bad thing for new players since you can easily beat more expierenced players with "better" towers using only the starter starts like fragger, sniper, patrol, and shotgunner, however this requires some strategy making and knowledge of how each tower works and the wave layouts,. This can be pretty difficult for new players to get a grasp of, which is why you see a bunch of players with really bad win to loss ratios. My best advice is to just play and learn instead of being demotivated by losses. Once you do start understanding some of the concepts of pvp like economy, sending, and wave layout, TB can become an extremely fun game to play with all the different types of strategies being used like going to endgame, boss rushes, economy pressure, and sabotages. It's even better when you go against someone who is also very experienced that knows to rush well and defend rushes.
I have a friend who used to play only anime tower defense games, which he claimed were "high quality" until he moved onto anime fighting games, and now has an unending dislike for tower defense simulator, which he says is a mindless dopamine farm for children. However, he plays bloxfruits :/
i reckon CTD was the most unique tower defense game so far with a ton of stuff that wasnt just events with stupid op enemies cause it had mechanics, sadly development ended but i hope a new game like this comes out theres a tower defense exactly like arknights called ‘kill people for fun’ its really good but has almost no players usually
WTD is such an insane take on the genre. It has a lot of replayability with the help of accessories. It's actually kind of insane that it only has around 300 players, though it is better because it had less than 100 back then.
Bro wtd has such an insane difficulty curve it went from the 1st game mode pretty easy beatable without strats and then you get a big slap from conehead saying fuck you and conehead saying " this is the real world " and absolutely destroys you the time It took me just to beat conehead was 4 days i don't want to do things solo i like interacting but this game just FORCES you to play solo or with friends just to beat a gamemode because randoms don't have strats and you absolutely need STRATS to beat a hard game mode at least in tbz i can beat overlord some what consistently without strats but oh boy wtd is alot ALOT harder.
Honestly my fav td game is still tbz, the towers are very high quality and the normal mode can be beaten with slinger (starter tower) the reason why so many people stopped playing tbz is because of the lack of updates and many bugs and glitches that need to be fixed, in my opinion best TD game if it updated.
Lack of updates is TDS too. For me, I think what made me get disinterested in tbz is my high dislike for grinding. If it takes more than a dozen games to get a tower, smths up.
The reason why td games such as Tower Defense Simulator keep alive is because it somehow give a lot of things to do, a lot of stuff to obtain, a lot of challenge to complete, etc... Making TDS for example, a super long game, but interesting.
I agree but you forgot one thing rng games with towers that are so Op but cost so little example you have a starter tower with 1 dps and cost 100 but then you can get a mythic with rng and it cost like 150 but does like 1k dps
Events and event towers are genuinely some of the worst game design concepts I have ever seen, they do so much that works against both the developers and the players, because not only are the players under pressure to obtain all the limited content, but the developers also throw away the event after it ends as if nothing ever happened, and 90% of the time event towers are completely unviable. It’s so dumb to add events and event towers instead of working on permanent new content like new modes and new permanent towers. Also golden skins are trash, period. They take too long to grind for and are a reward for those who have too much time, not the ones who are actually skilled.

After mindlessly playing TDS and tower blitz for years. I decided to try Arknights (not a roblox game) And it Opened my eyes on what a good tower defense game could be It's.... Amazing game One might see it as a gacha game and stay away from it but... That's the part where it makes the game fun (not excessive gambling of course) The gacha ensures that everyone's gameplay and progression would be different with different characters. Not all operators are equal one might be place and win While the other need a time and mastery to utilize it properly. This allows some levels to be beaten while being extremely underleveled,you just need your brain and precision to execute. You might get stuck on some hard stage and you dont have the towers that youtube tutorials uses You can always try to force yourself through,with enough proper planning and execution,and that feeling after a beating the stage you have been stuck on for a long time failing over and over gave me the biggest dopamine hit that no roblox TD games gives. And i still play it to this day With updates coming out every ~2 weeks and those are not just some bugfixes but straight up events with story and stages,so the game is always fresh. Oh and about "Fear of missing out"? Nah we do not have that here Everything reruns eventually (even collabs!) (Even limiteds) So you can just join this game anytime without missing out on anything Its amazing
as another tower heroes fan, I am here to confirm that everyone loves mimics in the community. its the best thing in the game and fun to get. it fills me with joy everytime.
I have been planning a new td game to devolop and I can agree with all of these, its hard to adapt to these issues. I just want it to turn out quality, as I also see this as a test for roblox and its community. I want to truly see what it takes to maintai. a community that actually enjoys the game, not just completionists.

i feel like many td games overlook the wave structure, if you have a good wave structure that includes things like mini bosses and isnt just spawnkilling the whole time makes the game way more fun to play. world tower defense is a good example of what im talking about
Most TD games go with the same basic wave structure, and make slight alterations. and with the same types of enemies. Paradigm Shift TD has tons tho too.
Vector fission an insanely underrated tower defense game is pretty much dead now the easiest mode can be soloed with the starter towers but the problem is that you don't buy them instead you gain a "contract" or whatever it's called and you have to spin it seems bad at first but you can solo the easiest mode on all maps but if your unlucky and keep getting the same I can see a massive problem there
Tower heroes is basically just the best tower defense game for replayability. Even when you’re level 100+, Event towers, Mimics, Modifiers for just having fun. I don’t wanna go too into detail, But tower heroes just represents what a good tower defense game is. Especially since the balancing is actually good.
Cosmetics are not replayability 🙄, and that's just your preference. Many people don't want to waste their time grinding for something useless that doesn't provide anything to the gameplay. That's 80% of Tower Heroes.

I would like to add on that success in general, but especially on the Roblox platform, is focused both on uniqueness/quality alongside *luck*. There are amazing, replayable TD games and games as a whole on Roblox like Tower Blitz but they all die anyways because they simply weren't lucky.
Honestly, I enjoy the tower defense genre and I have noticed these problems with most tower defense games. As someone who wants to make their own tower defense games and make it fun without being repetitive and feel like it’s another gambling simulator game on roblox. Sadly, I don’t have a device to make a roblox game. Some stuff that tower defense games don’t have but should have are modes that give the player the ability to replay past events to enjoy the event when it’s over, but not getting the event tower, or the exclusive rewards it gave.
This entire video summarizes 120% of the problems within TD games in my own perspective. One of the biggest problem within TD games nowadays is one of what you mentioned, replayability. There's something I call "progressive powering", where a TD game progresses in tower strength in parallel to the difficulty increase later in the game. For a game with barely any replayability or long painful grind with barely any reward per game, this is an extremely big problem in general as it discourage any sort of strategical creativity, only using certain towers that are considered "good" and play the same thing over and over and over. The newly released TD:X also face this issue, and admittedly, it makes the game sub-par compared to the hype it received.
I have both been in tds and btd6 community, through one way or another, not counting the update time or major content drop (beacuse one is a small group and the other is a damn studio) one thing that should be considered for tds or any tower defence game to thrive is have great relations and actively checking the community ideas and player base opinions, let them create new maps, a new tower idea, some new boss concepts, this is why old games can thrive, btd6 is great not just because the better quality of life changes (shorter grinds, support for new players, helpful tips) but beacuse ninja kiwi listens to the community
I think the main reason TTD was so successful was because of the RUclipsr influence of telanthric which kickstarted the game along with the frequent updates that no other td game does well, the game is also easier than others for the most part and the trading feature which allows a different type of ‘gameplay’ for endgame players Other than that it fails at everything the other td games do. originality is non existent, the quality is horrible with very little toilet animations and generic gameplay mechanics,I don’t even think the devs have once considered balancing and that the game revolves around rng. Although the main reason it succeeds is because of how similar it is to a simulator which is usually much more successful than td games , just think about it the rng summon, the repetitive gameplay, different rarities, pay to win exclusives and trading
i was spending my life on tds but nowadays im spending my life for voxel defenders its pixelish loosk cool and its still under development so im trying to help devs as much as i can to make the game better for other palyers i was one of the first players and now the game is going popular and it makes me happy to see it actually every game may have bugs , balancament things but the important thing is players when players told the bug that they saw to the developers they are fixing it they also should share their ideas with devs too if a dev sees an idea addful they would add and make the game better for the community.
tds problems is balencing, updates, and delays which makes no sense since their balencing is so bad they cant make easy mode easy they make it "impossible" yet the most least money when its harder. their updates are way too slow with no progress of a new tower or rework which makes everything boring. Delays are delays since they delay based on how much the devs work on what they have to do and in the discord.
Been playing Tower Defense for 10 years and honestly originality is rarely rewarded in this genre, many original games die out due to it sacrificing replay-ability for a more fun but short experience(Tower Galactica) or just are too graphics intensive and out of roblox style (Tower Defenders). The TDS style is overall the most fun style but players are sick of going to similar games like Tower Battles and Tower Blitz after already sinking a lot of time in one of them. Definitely agree that making progression more fun is one of the key parts, as for how to do that is by being a step ahead of TDS in quality and of course unique content but that's tough for any new game since everyone compares new td games to TDS's quality. Just my take tho ):D
Once you're deep into aTD game, you can't have fun in any others. Probably why TDS is still successful, since most people already invested so much time into it.

There aren't some really well known games from devs doing it out of their passion, critical tower defense has people wanting the game to continue but the developer seems to have stopped work on it. Some games need recognition, but some really do get repetitive overtime whether theres other content. Its quite sad to see this.

Yeah, once you have a sandbox mode, your game has infinite replayabiity. And if you add a way for players to create challenges like btd6, your game can't die anymore.

ive been playing tower heroes since early 2020 and have made some achivements over my playtime, i defo enjoy the game at an early standpoint but after you get around lvl 150 you kinda just lose the fun, after triumping pretty much any mode on a map you can confidently do it again with ease, for example, after beating the hardest map in the game, bleak barrens, on hard I litterally never died theere again, the game becomes to easy for its self. The balancing alone needs a large change, 2 towers from lvl 40 maps on hard mode (beetrice and volt) are both considered 2 of the worst towers in the game, while a tower from a lvl 25 map on hard and a tower on a level 30 map on easy (yasuke and branch) are considred the bestt towers in the game, the game just doesnt feel rewarding after around lvl 150, espically with the slow update time, heck, [im one of the the offical pvp champions] and i still find the game boring at most times, i really hope they up their update speed and start putting more replayable content, the doors update just had a charm in it that made it so fun to replay, we need that in more maps. Some may argue there is replayabillity for mimics and skins, but trust md this can get boring extremely fast, i lost hope for corporate mimic after around 2 months of grinding for it, it really is a luck dependent feature, same goes with crates, a pity system is very needed and has ben said for years but weve never gotten it, many players including my self would like to know what were doing is worth it rather then having to hope to be lucky, this is why void and frantic forest hidden quest is so beloved, its a secret that isnt fully rng based. Final thing, the games majour flaws are def the devs not listening to the community. There are some other things like the extremly toxic discord server for the game, and the toxic youtuber (duck adam) who tried to cancel another youtuber for no reason other then "he wannna" but I will not go into that. anyways if youre a big enough loser to read all this you are still not a big enough loser to write all this, HA. anyways goodbye goobers.
I feel that if they added like monthly challenges that would be as hard as like night 4 of solar eclipse event or easier like duck hunt then they could keep players coming in for a challenge

I believe that a game having only one single starter tower is bad, it should have at least 2, maybe even 3 ^ ctd tecnically has 3 "starter towers", because once you first join, you imediatelly collect your daily reward and use it to buy warrior, despite only starting out with archer and bandit I believe that making the "easy" gamemode being beatable roght off the bat is actually bad, because since most tower defense games only really have 3 normal gamemodes, mostly being just "easy/normal", "hard" and "insane", making it so that the first gamemode just gets to be filler later on 4 dificulties is the go-to
Having mode just to make a new players life easier after the easy mode of the game is a waste of time from a developer point of view that's why they don't to it .There should only be one mode catered to new players that they can grind on provided it gives enough coins One thing ctd does well is level lock towers it forces new players to look at their options and not just save for the best stuff so that they can steamroll the rest of the game with. (it also prevents ptw players from getting everything off the bat) Developers shouldn't make 4 modes. it only waste their time, the only thing a medium mode does is compensate for that new players skill issue. skipping medium mode and having only 3 modes insures balanced and skill based progression I probably they only person that likes this type of progression so feel free to disagree as for the archer bit, I didn't care to read most of the comment before writing this reply.
The grinding in most TD games on roblox absplutely sucks, but when there is random chance involved, it gets 200 times worse. I also don't like the balance of most TD games, there is always a strict meta I haven't seen in most TD games outside of roblox. It sucks even more when one of the meta towers is event and you will never ever get it
At 1:52 I feel CTD (critical tower defense) does this correctly. You can -almost- beat easy with the starting towers which gives you determination to beat it. And how even the insane difficulty (fallen mode basically) is possible 1 player but takes good strategy and planning and is still difficult with a team.
in my opinion, if you stick to 1 tower defense game then you will most likely hate the others. for example: my friends in school play TTD and are way too addicted. whenever i mention TDS they always say its a trash game no matter the update, no matter the event, no matter anything. especially even if the other tower defense games are good, but if you play 1 tower defense game then you will usally find yourself hating the others and not wanting to play the others. There was one really good tower defense game called Tower Galactica. It was a story-based tower defense game where you travelled five galaxies, all with unique planets and mechanics that made the game really good. Unfortunately, due to drama, the game was abandoned. Sad, because it was probably the best roblox tower defense game I played.
This opinion is pretty solid and i support it, most games make it so you need to grind for hours even weeks just for a unit that probably isn’t as good as you thought or if the game just makes it impossible for you to get strong units, only available by ginormous amounts of money, tbh your channel is underrated and i like the content you do in it.
The problem in my perspective in td games it was all bc of three things: 1. Quality over quantity bad, quantity over quality good it's so stupid when children like effortless over high effort games even though these children didn't know how long developing an update really is? 2. Lack of replayability or content Take btd6 for example everytime they make a really cool update (like new bosses, events, maps, etc) they'll always hype up the community in which most td game devs in roblox doesn't have 3. P2W it's kinda obvious i don't even need to explain much else except if they don't add P2W most people or children won't play it, but in the other hand if they add P2W most people or children will play it but some people won't like it (idk roblox's algorithm is mixed reviews)

TDS actually trying to do something to make their game are fun, we still don't know what they are going to do but the devs are assuring the players they will make something new. also, scout and sniper can solo molten with enough players (probably?), and yes there matchmaking which can help many new players to find team easier. but yeah mostly TD game now is gambling, pain to grind and more I agree with this video

Anime tds give you more of a luck aspect for characters you may love form your fav shows. Regular tds usually have an unlocking kind of thing with events being diff compared to anime tds. I agree. Should mention CTD tho. The game can get very hard even with all the endgame stuff, it has alot of unique modes, enemies, and even perks! Sadly the World Tower Defense game is pretty bad because of its balancing/community/etc, and also their co-owner is a weirdo (there's a document on him) and yeah. (I do not suggest playing it) good td games i played: Tower Blitz (sadly it fell down over the past year), Paradigm Shift TD (awesome game) and idk.
I agree, with all this, and tds really is boring at times. Cannot play it cause i have a crud Computer but it still is fun, and i am so glad you said accessibility like for example you cant play tds on the xbox whilst you can play tower heroes. As someone who now mainly plays Xbox, this sucks. However, the game doesn't necessarily have to be good to be fun like in world td, it's not a great project, but a fun new interesting one. What i think games should do is stop focusing on money, and more the community, which is why personally i think Tower Heroes is tds done right. Most games that are tower defense are money hungry and bring mediocre events to keep them buying things. Like when act III for tds released, it was unbeatable basically meaning you had to buy jester which is 750 ROBUX. Hopefully, these games can actually provide good things for christmas.

Ctd, Tower Galactica comes to mind as unique. Tower galactica has you dodging enemy attacks, and having to actually survive the enemyies arent defensles, get too close? The enemy's death explosion will take away 75% of your hp. Bosses arent an exeption for instance they like to do in the third galaxy alot of attacks. Ctd has enemyies interacting WITH each other, also it is the second TD game to have towers dying as apart of its gameplay (First to invent and use it is TB), a good example is the Null Chambers a place whole dedicated to enemy interaction's. Take Null Proxys for example on their own they are quiet tanky but due to wave lock you ussualy take them out before they get to move, they activate other abilities of Null enemyies though by being nearby.
I stand here wondering to this day how tower defense simulator has more players than tower heroes and flavor frenzy.. those 2 are deffinetly the best td games.
TDS is all about grinding, but the grinding for stuff that's actually meaningful and pays off with your hard work. Tower Heroes only sucks up to beginner friendly folks. Low leveled maps that shouldn't even be that low. Majority of the towers being in the shop, cheap or free with some being overpowered while the end game towers suck. When you finish all maps and towers, which what? Goes all the way up to lvl 50. You have two options, grind for cosmetics, or wait for next update. Cosmetics are not replayability, their only a preference for certain players to get. So don't go saying y'all have mimics, followers, modifiers, crates. They all lead to one and another.

When you talked about how you should change the landscape of tower defense games in general and how the gameplay should be more engaging reminds me of The Battle Bricks a lot, it’s like The Battle Cats but 3D and way harder, the only reason you would want to buy bricks (the currency) to buy other stuff is either because you want to support the creator or you’re just bored, which makes me wonder on why most tower defense games tend to be so p2w, hopefully the quality tower defense games / fighting games / rpgs etc. get enough support so that they do not turn to p2w. Now hopefully most quality games stay as passion projects and less on pay to win and hopefully just HOPEFULLY they get enough support so they don’t do P2W cringe on their game, which is the reason why I hate p2w games so much is because of that! Some passion projects that tend to P2W I will support since they don’t get enough monetization, but some games get too much monetization on how low quality their game is. Anyways, that’s my opinion on quality games and P2W games in general. Edit : I realized that you also talked about how the easiest game mode is impossible to solo, thankfully there are a lot of games that are possible to do single player, which brings us back to The Battle Bricks, it’s a single player game and that’s the reason why it’s so hard.
tower heroes is not good lategame once you finish all of the maps (which honestly the only thing stopping you is the level cap because a lot of the maps are easy as hell) the only content you have left is mimic grinding, crate grinding, or follower grinding and none of them are fun at all
I think a tower defense game also needs to hit that sweet spot in their "hard" modes where they don't feel impossibly hard and unfun to play, while also not being too easy with no actual challenge at all.

I am fairly Late to this. Though One of the games that has a bit of love is Tower Blitz. Im a lvl 33 Player in this game and I still dont get bored of it. Its a fairly easy game. Though it still is a challenging game. one of the best towers in the game is GunSlinger. a tower that is like Crook boss and Shotgunner. Heck. They even made a Tribute to TechoBlade on black friday days. You can even be having fun with its modifiers. making a group of certain enemys random. one of the towers even shows up as enemy in random modes. I like to discover new enemies in this game. Im currently going to try beating the ez mode with towers that cost 500 money to buy.
The one problem is about these td games is that finding a team is hard without discord so adding a match making is easy but problem people will leave immediately or disconnect
my favorite td game is tower galactica the first planet is mid but once you get to the second planet duhovnic is fun because it introduces so much and the towers are somewhat unique. Have you played it?
There is a tower defense game that is actually good for starters (World Defenders) it has infinite mode to reward you based on how many waves you beat and a lot of difficulties to choose and a lot of towers and pets to collect to make you keep progressing
What my problem is about tower defense games is events (not counting tower heroes cause they cool), they pump more and more and more and the new players and others start to realize they’ll have to grind 24/7 to get the new event tower that will never be reintroduced without using money, my proposal for fixing this… Make a easy mode for noobs that does have the tower but the hard mode has like a buffed skin (or just a cool skin) that can be reintroduced like the ducky event skins.

On all seriousness though tds has some pretty serious grinding requirements for things like golden perk or accelerator. I also suffer from boredom grinding for things.
The thing is, when i was a new player, i didn't have any other tower. My humble beginnings were awesome because i always wanted to beat all three gamemodes easily. Even when grinding for very tedious things i never got bored really.
That is until past ducky event. The engineer grind completely burnt me out, and something just changed. After i got active again i wasn't grinding or playing the game nearly enough as i used to. This became apparent when i had to grind for the rest of my missing perks, something just wasn't right.
maybe one day an update will revive that flame that wouldn't extinguish, but for now im just moving along through the dirt completely unamused or challenged.

Even if Pixel Gun TD kind of lost its player base, it is still powerful and unique compared to others, and you would have a reason to play on a new map since you can get extra rewards for doing so. Lucas tower defence has the same thing, with the exception of constant events, and a way to keep his gaming community happy with gears and memes. It also has tower hp and that towers can die if enemies attack it too much which makes it unique compared to most others.

The video is great and all, but I'll just like to say, the TDS devs didn't just lose the love and passion to TDS, they aren't teenagers in their parents houses anymore, and they need to make money to bring bread to the table. The devs do care about TDS, but they need to act more professionally now, as they're in charge of a massive game and the devs don't have that much time to just talk regularly with people in general.

In terms of 2 of 3 points you mentioned, Tower Battles is a really good TD game. It's different from most TD games in Roblox in that it has a good pvp mode which also makes it more replayable. Now, I will say that for beginners, TB is brutal to start off with since survival mode is very difficult without endgame towers so the only reliable way to grind coins is through versus. This can be either a good or really bad thing for new players since you can easily beat more expierenced players with "better" towers using only the starter starts like fragger, sniper, patrol, and shotgunner, however this requires some strategy making and knowledge of how each tower works and the wave layouts,. This can be pretty difficult for new players to get a grasp of, which is why you see a bunch of players with really bad win to loss ratios. My best advice is to just play and learn instead of being demotivated by losses. Once you do start understanding some of the concepts of pvp like economy, sending, and wave layout, TB can become an extremely fun game to play with all the different types of strategies being used like going to endgame, boss rushes, economy pressure, and sabotages. It's even better when you go against someone who is also very experienced that knows to rush well and defend rushes.

Honestly my fav td game is still tbz, the towers are very high quality and the normal mode can be beaten with slinger (starter tower) the reason why so many people stopped playing tbz is because of the lack of updates and many bugs and glitches that need to be fixed, in my opinion best TD game if it updated.
Lack of updates is TDS too. For me, I think what made me get disinterested in tbz is my high dislike for grinding. If it takes more than a dozen games to get a tower, smths up.
They're also the devs of evade (not a TD game) so they started focusing on evade only and pretty much abandoned tbz

The reason why td games such as Tower Defense Simulator keep alive is because it somehow give a lot of things to do, a lot of stuff to obtain, a lot of challenge to complete, etc... Making TDS for example, a super long game, but interesting.

I agree but you forgot one thing rng games with towers that are so Op but cost so little example you have a starter tower with 1 dps and cost 100 but then you can get a mythic with rng and it cost like 150 but does like 1k dps
Pvp makes every tower defense game so much more fun and replay able, more games should add it.

Events and event towers are genuinely some of the worst game design concepts I have ever seen, they do so much that works against both the developers and the players, because not only are the players under pressure to obtain all the limited content, but the developers also throw away the event after it ends as if nothing ever happened, and 90% of the time event towers are completely unviable. It’s so dumb to add events and event towers instead of working on permanent new content like new modes and new permanent towers.
Also golden skins are trash, period. They take too long to grind for and are a reward for those who have too much time, not the ones who are actually skilled.

There is a Roblox td game that has gotten popular in the last couple of weeks called "The House TD" and it is really good.
After mindlessly playing TDS and tower blitz for years.
I decided to try Arknights (not a roblox game)
And it Opened my eyes on what a good tower defense game could be
It's.... Amazing game
One might see it as a gacha game and stay away from it but...
That's the part where it makes the game fun (not excessive gambling of course)
The gacha ensures that everyone's gameplay and progression would be different with different characters.
Not all operators are equal

While the other need a time and mastery to utilize it properly.
This allows some levels to be beaten while being extremely underleveled,you just need your brain and precision to execute.
You might get stuck on some hard stage and you dont have the towers that youtube tutorials uses
You can always try to force yourself through,with enough proper planning and execution,and that feeling after a beating the stage you have been stuck on for a long time failing over and over gave me the biggest dopamine hit that no roblox TD games gives.
And i still play it to this day
With updates coming out every ~2 weeks and those are not just some bugfixes but straight up events with story and stages,so the game is always fresh.

I have been planning a new td game to devolop and I can agree with all of these, its hard to adapt to these issues. I just want it to turn out quality, as I also see this as a test for roblox and its community. I want to truly see what it takes to maintai. a community that actually enjoys the game, not just completionists.

I’m glad someone finally talked (or at least mentioned) Tower Battles, it’s a really good game with just non standard ways of doing things which I think drives a lot if people away from it
i feel like many td games overlook the wave structure, if you have a good wave structure that includes things like mini bosses and isnt just spawnkilling the whole time makes the game way more fun to play. world tower defense is a good example of what im talking about
True, most td games only have one or even no minibosses at all and just one boss, but in wtd you get a ton of minibosses especially in arduous
Most TD games go with the same basic wave structure, and make slight alterations. and with the same types of enemies. Paradigm Shift TD has tons tho too.
Vector fission an insanely underrated tower defense game is pretty much dead now the easiest mode can be soloed with the starter towers but the problem is that you don't buy them instead you gain a "contract" or whatever it's called and you have to spin it seems bad at first but you can solo the easiest mode on all maps but if your unlucky and keep getting the same I can see a massive problem there

Tower heroes is basically just the best tower defense game for replayability. Even when you’re level 100+, Event towers, Mimics, Modifiers for just having fun. I don’t wanna go too into detail, But tower heroes just represents what a good tower defense game is. Especially since the balancing is actually good.
Cosmetics are not replayability 🙄, and that's just your preference. Many people don't want to waste their time grinding for something useless that doesn't provide anything to the gameplay. That's 80% of Tower Heroes.

I would like to add on that success in general, but especially on the Roblox platform, is focused both on uniqueness/quality alongside *luck*. There are amazing, replayable TD games and games as a whole on Roblox like Tower Blitz but they all die anyways because they simply weren't lucky.
Honestly, I enjoy the tower defense genre and I have noticed these problems with most tower defense games. As someone who wants to make their own tower defense games and make it fun without being repetitive and feel like it’s another gambling simulator game on roblox. Sadly, I don’t have a device to make a roblox game. Some stuff that tower defense games don’t have but should have are modes that give the player the ability to replay past events to enjoy the event when it’s over, but not getting the event tower, or the exclusive rewards it gave.

This entire video summarizes 120% of the problems within TD games in my own perspective. One of the biggest problem within TD games nowadays is one of what you mentioned, replayability. There's something I call "progressive powering", where a TD game progresses in tower strength in parallel to the difficulty increase later in the game. For a game with barely any replayability or long painful grind with barely any reward per game, this is an extremely big problem in general as it discourage any sort of strategical creativity, only using certain towers that are considered "good" and play the same thing over and over and over. The newly released TD:X also face this issue, and admittedly, it makes the game sub-par compared to the hype it received.
I have both been in tds and btd6 community, through one way or another, not counting the update time or major content drop (beacuse one is a small group and the other is a damn studio) one thing that should be considered for tds or any tower defence game to thrive is have great relations and actively checking the community ideas and player base opinions, let them create new maps, a new tower idea, some new boss concepts, this is why old games can thrive, btd6 is great not just because the better quality of life changes (shorter grinds, support for new players, helpful tips) but beacuse ninja kiwi listens to the community
I think the main reason TTD was so successful was because of the RUclipsr influence of telanthric which kickstarted the game along with the frequent updates that no other td game does well, the game is also easier than others for the most part and the trading feature which allows a different type of ‘gameplay’ for endgame players
Other than that it fails at everything the other td games do. originality is non existent, the quality is horrible with very little toilet animations and generic gameplay mechanics,I don’t even think the devs have once considered balancing and that the game revolves around rng.
Although the main reason it succeeds is because of how similar it is to a simulator which is usually much more successful than td games , just think about it the rng summon, the repetitive gameplay, different rarities, pay to win exclusives and trading
i was spending my life on tds but nowadays im spending my life for voxel defenders its pixelish loosk cool and its still under development so im trying to help devs as much as i can to make the game better for other palyers i was one of the first players and now the game is going popular and it makes me happy to see it actually every game may have bugs , balancament things but the important thing is players when players told the bug that they saw to the developers they are fixing it they also should share their ideas with devs too if a dev sees an idea addful they would add and make the game better for the community.
You should try Zombie Invasion Tower Defense by Zombie Invasion Studios it has no players and a ton of original mechanics and towers

tds problems is balencing, updates, and delays which makes no sense since their balencing is so bad they cant make easy mode easy they make it "impossible" yet the most least money when its harder. their updates are way too slow with no progress of a new tower or rework which makes everything boring. Delays are delays since they delay based on how much the devs work on what they have to do and in the discord.
Been playing Tower Defense for 10 years and honestly originality is rarely rewarded in this genre, many original games die out due to it sacrificing replay-ability for a more fun but short experience(Tower Galactica) or just are too graphics intensive and out of roblox style (Tower Defenders). The TDS style is overall the most fun style but players are sick of going to similar games like Tower Battles and Tower Blitz after already sinking a lot of time in one of them. Definitely agree that making progression more fun is one of the key parts, as for how to do that is by being a step ahead of TDS in quality and of course unique content but that's tough for any new game since everyone compares new td games to TDS's quality. Just my take tho ):D
Once you're deep into aTD game, you can't have fun in any others. Probably why TDS is still successful, since most people already invested so much time into it.

There aren't some really well known games from devs doing it out of their passion, critical tower defense has people wanting the game to continue but the developer seems to have stopped work on it. Some games need recognition, but some really do get repetitive overtime whether theres other content. Its quite sad to see this.
Nah the dev didnt stop working with ctd. Have you checked the halloween yet? Theres even april fools tower returning( it cost robux but its really low so you should atleast be able to buy it even with only 10 robux left).

ive been playing tower heroes since early 2020 and have made some achivements over my playtime, i defo enjoy the game at an early standpoint but after you get around lvl 150 you kinda just lose the fun, after triumping pretty much any mode on a map you can confidently do it again with ease, for example, after beating the hardest map in the game, bleak barrens, on hard I litterally never died theere again, the game becomes to easy for its self. The balancing alone needs a large change, 2 towers from lvl 40 maps on hard mode (beetrice and volt) are both considered 2 of the worst towers in the game, while a tower from a lvl 25 map on hard and a tower on a level 30 map on easy (yasuke and branch) are considred the bestt towers in the game, the game just doesnt feel rewarding after around lvl 150, espically with the slow update time, heck, [im one of the the offical pvp champions] and i still find the game boring at most times, i really hope they up their update speed and start putting more replayable content, the doors update just had a charm in it that made it so fun to replay, we need that in more maps. Some may argue there is replayabillity for mimics and skins, but trust md this can get boring extremely fast, i lost hope for corporate mimic after around 2 months of grinding for it, it really is a luck dependent feature, same goes with crates, a pity system is very needed and has ben said for years but weve never gotten it, many players including my self would like to know what were doing is worth it rather then having to hope to be lucky, this is why void and frantic forest hidden quest is so beloved, its a secret that isnt fully rng based. Final thing, the games majour flaws are def the devs not listening to the community. There are some other things like the extremly toxic discord server for the game, and the toxic youtuber (duck adam) who tried to cancel another youtuber for no reason other then "he wannna" but I will not go into that. anyways if youre a big enough loser to read all this you are still not a big enough loser to write all this, HA. anyways goodbye goobers.

^ ctd tecnically has 3 "starter towers", because once you first join, you imediatelly collect your daily reward and use it to buy warrior, despite only starting out with archer and bandit
I believe that making the "easy" gamemode being beatable roght off the bat is actually bad, because since most tower defense games only really have 3 normal gamemodes, mostly being just "easy/normal", "hard" and "insane", making it so that the first gamemode just gets to be filler later on

Having mode just to make a new players life easier after the easy mode of the game is a waste of time from a developer point of view that's why they don't to it .There should only be one mode catered to new players that they can grind on provided it gives enough coins
One thing ctd does well is level lock towers it forces new players to look at their options and not just save for the best stuff so that they can steamroll the rest of the game with.
(it also prevents ptw players from getting everything off the bat)
Developers shouldn't make 4 modes. it only waste their time, the only thing a medium mode does is compensate for that new players skill issue. skipping medium mode and having only 3 modes
insures balanced and skill based progression

As a tds player In my opinion, Normal mode should be nerfed because so many new player become the victim of that mode (the hardest mode in the game) 🗿
The grinding in most TD games on roblox absplutely sucks, but when there is random chance involved, it gets 200 times worse.
I also don't like the balance of most TD games, there is always a strict meta I haven't seen in most TD games outside of roblox. It sucks even more when one of the meta towers is event and you will never ever get it
At 1:52 I feel CTD (critical tower defense) does this correctly. You can -almost- beat easy with the starting towers which gives you determination to beat it. And how even the insane difficulty (fallen mode basically) is possible 1 player but takes good strategy and planning and is still difficult with a team.

in my opinion, if you stick to 1 tower defense game then you will most likely hate the others. for example: my friends in school play TTD and are way too addicted. whenever i mention TDS they always say its a trash game no matter the update, no matter the event, no matter anything. especially even if the other tower defense games are good, but if you play 1 tower defense game then you will usally find yourself hating the others and not wanting to play the others.

There was one really good tower defense game called Tower Galactica. It was a story-based tower defense game where you travelled five galaxies, all with unique planets and mechanics that made the game really good. Unfortunately, due to drama, the game was abandoned. Sad, because it was probably the best roblox tower defense game I played.

This opinion is pretty solid and i support it, most games make it so you need to grind for hours even weeks just for a unit that probably isn’t as good as you thought or if the game just makes it impossible for you to get strong units, only available by ginormous amounts of money, tbh your channel is underrated and i like the content you do in it.
The problem in my perspective in td games it was all bc of three things:
1. Quality over quantity bad, quantity over quality good it's so stupid when children like effortless over high effort games even though these children didn't know how long developing an update really is?
2. Lack of replayability or content
Take btd6 for example everytime they make a really cool update (like new bosses, events, maps, etc) they'll always hype up the community in which most td game devs in roblox doesn't have
3. P2W it's kinda obvious i don't even need to explain much else except if they don't add P2W most people or children won't play it, but in the other hand if they add P2W most people or children will play it but some people won't like it (idk roblox's algorithm is mixed reviews)
btd6 does the tower defense genere right i have btd6 i know what its like and its great ngl more tower defense games should take notes from btd6 and do what it does great the most
1:17 this gets into the battle bricks. a tds game based off battle cats. the battle bricks is very unique compaired to other tower defenses. it gameplay. tower or more accurately units, bosses, style (which is based off old roblox), etc

I agree. Should mention CTD tho. The game can get very hard even with all the endgame stuff, it has alot of unique modes, enemies, and even perks! But not many people play it which is sad considering that those people play Skibidi tower ripoofs.

(I do not suggest playing it) good td games i played: Tower Blitz (sadly it fell down over the past year), Paradigm Shift TD (awesome game) and idk.
You should try Zombie Invasion Tower Defense by Zombie Invasion Studios, it's a really great game with originality and it has nearly no players at all

I agree, with all this, and tds really is boring at times. Cannot play it cause i have a crud Computer but it still is fun, and i am so glad you said accessibility like for example you cant play tds on the xbox whilst you can play tower heroes. As someone who now mainly plays Xbox, this sucks. However, the game doesn't necessarily have to be good to be fun like in world td, it's not a great project, but a fun new interesting one. What i think games should do is stop focusing on money, and more the community, which is why personally i think Tower Heroes is tds done right. Most games that are tower defense are money hungry and bring mediocre events to keep them buying things. Like when act III for tds released, it was unbeatable basically meaning you had to buy jester which is 750 ROBUX. Hopefully, these games can actually provide good things for christmas.

Ctd, Tower Galactica comes to mind as unique. Tower galactica has you dodging enemy attacks, and having to actually survive the enemyies arent defensles, get too close? The enemy's death explosion will take away 75% of your hp. Bosses arent an exeption for instance they like to do in the third galaxy alot of attacks.
Ctd has enemyies interacting WITH each other, also it is the second TD game to have towers dying as apart of its gameplay (First to invent and use it is TB), a good example is the Null Chambers a place whole dedicated to enemy interaction's. Take Null Proxys for example on their own they are quiet tanky but due to wave lock you ussualy take them out before they get to move, they activate other abilities of Null enemyies though by being nearby.
I stand here wondering to this day how tower defense simulator has more players than tower heroes and flavor frenzy.. those 2 are deffinetly the best td games.
Sometimes those thoughts keep me up at night lol
TDS is all about grinding, but the grinding for stuff that's actually meaningful and pays off with your hard work.
Tower Heroes only sucks up to beginner friendly folks.
Low leveled maps that shouldn't even be that low.
Majority of the towers being in the shop, cheap or free with some being overpowered while the end game towers suck.
When you finish all maps and towers, which what? Goes all the way up to lvl 50. You have two options, grind for cosmetics, or wait for next update.
Cosmetics are not replayability, their only a preference for certain players to get. So don't go saying y'all have mimics, followers, modifiers, crates. They all lead to one and another.

When you talked about how you should change the landscape of tower defense games in general and how the gameplay should be more engaging reminds me of The Battle Bricks a lot, it’s like The Battle Cats but 3D and way harder, the only reason you would want to buy bricks (the currency) to buy other stuff is either because you want to support the creator or you’re just bored, which makes me wonder on why most tower defense games tend to be so p2w, hopefully the quality tower defense games / fighting games / rpgs etc. get enough support so that they do not turn to p2w.
Now hopefully most quality games stay as passion projects and less on pay to win and hopefully just HOPEFULLY they get enough support so they don’t do P2W cringe on their game, which is the reason why I hate p2w games so much is because of that! Some passion projects that tend to P2W I will support since they don’t get enough monetization, but some games get too much monetization on how low quality their game is.
Anyways, that’s my opinion on quality games and P2W games in general.
Edit : I realized that you also talked about how the easiest game mode is impossible to solo, thankfully there are a lot of games that are possible to do single player, which brings us back to The Battle Bricks, it’s a single player game and that’s the reason why it’s so hard.

once you finish all of the maps (which honestly the only thing stopping you is the level cap because a lot of the maps are easy as hell) the only content you have left is mimic grinding, crate grinding, or follower grinding and none of them are fun at all

I think a tower defense game also needs to hit that sweet spot in their "hard" modes where they don't feel impossibly hard and unfun to play, while also not being too easy with no actual challenge at all.

I am fairly Late to this. Though One of the games that has a bit of love is Tower Blitz. Im a lvl 33 Player in this game and I still dont get bored of it. Its a fairly easy game. Though it still is a challenging game. one of the best towers in the game is GunSlinger. a tower that is like Crook boss and Shotgunner. Heck. They even made a Tribute to TechoBlade on black friday days. You can even be having fun with its modifiers. making a group of certain enemys random. one of the towers even shows up as enemy in random modes. I like to discover new enemies in this game. Im currently going to try beating the ez mode with towers that cost 500 money to buy.
The one problem is about these td games is that finding a team is hard without discord so adding a match making is easy but problem people will leave immediately or disconnect

What my problem is about tower defense games is events (not counting tower heroes cause they cool), they pump more and more and more and the new players and others start to realize they’ll have to grind 24/7 to get the new event tower that will never be reintroduced without using money, my proposal for fixing this… Make a easy mode for noobs that does have the tower but the hard mode has like a buffed skin (or just a cool skin) that can be reintroduced like the ducky event skins.
this is basically why tower heroes is probably the most underrated and the best tower defence game lol (repetitivity is non existent and its unique)
