  • The Nimzowitsch Defense is one of the most underrated chess openings for black against e4. It gives a strong combination of chess opening theory, chess opening principles, and chess opening moves. Stockfish often likes the positions which come out of the Nimzowitsch Defense, and on top of all this, it is rare! This is important because if you play the Nimzowitsch Defense, you will have the advantage in terms of preparation. Every Nimzowitsch Defense game you play, you will gain more knowledge and understanding of the moves, tricks, traps, ideas, principles, theory, lines, and variations.
    Your opponent, however, has probably not studied for the Nimzowitsch Defense much. E4 players have so many chess openings they need to study up on including the French Defense, Petrov's Defense, Pirc Defense, Scandinavian Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, Sicilian Defense, and more! Because of this, the e4 chess opening player doesn't often spend much time (if any at all) studying for the Nimzowitsch Defense. I only mention all this because I think it helps the Nimzowitsch Defense in it's effectiveness. Now, this is NOT one of those chess openings where we simply hope the opponent "messes up, and if they don't, well we are losing." This is a strong chess opening for black against e4 even if the opponent is familiar with it. However, it only becomes more effective when the e4 player doesn't have much of an understanding concerning the types of middlegame chess positions that can be reached. And this only helps us!
    If you do play the Nimzowitsch Defense, you will run into the tough choice of playing either the Scandinavian Variation or Kennedy Variation, and on this chess channel we will cover both! But this video is dedicated to the Linksspringer Variation, which comes out of the Kennedy Variation from black.

    In case you are looking for an interesting defense against 2.Nf3 you can look at d5, 3. exd5 Qxd5 4. Nc3 Qd6!!
    This is a very nice Move trying to justify the early development of the Knight to C6, with the idea of castling Queenside as soon as possible and moving the Queen back to D8 if forced to by a move like Nb5

      This is interesting but at that point just play the Qd6 Scandinavian which is better because black hasn’t committed to Nc6 and can play c6

    What to do after
    1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5 Nce7 4. Be3 Ng6 5. a3
    One sample line might go
    ... Nf6 6. Nc3 Be7 7. f3 d6 8. Qd2 O-O 9. h4 h5 10. Nge2
    And I think white is doing much better here.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  4 месяца назад +2

      Ya interesting line! I plugged it into stockfish and once you reach this point it is about +0.4 for white. It says Bd7 is solid for black followed by a move like c6 or c5 or even b5. (ALSO, instead of 4. ...Ng6 apparantly 4. ...d6 is an option followed by moves like c6 and/or f5 with near equality for black). Idk what do you think?

      Some possible lines:
      1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5 Nce7 4. Be3 f5 5. Nc3 d6 6. f3 Nf6 7. Qd2
      1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5 Nce7 4. Be3 d6 5. Nc3 c6 6. dxc6 bxc6 7. Bc4
      White has the advantage, but these look a little better than after
      1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5 Nce7 4. Be3 Ng6 5. a3

    hey Solomon i have a question to keep the same plan of manoeuvering the b8 knight to g6 but when the opponent is playing like normal scotch game, bc im not an e5 player and when we enter in this i lost all these plans and play a solid game trying to not lose but not really appreciated you know

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  4 месяца назад +1

      Ya it's pretty hard to play this manuever if you are seeing a normal game from white. Part of what makes the Nc6/Ne7/Ng6 idea so good is that white pushed their pawn to d5. This does 3 things in our favor.
      1. White has spent precious time pushing a central pawn twice.
      2. The a2 to g8 diagonal is now blocked, so Bc4 looks silly.
      3. c5 is now a GREAT square for our dark-squared bishop to go to.
      So with all this in mind, I probably wouldn't usually do this manuever against something like the Scotch Game for the reasons mentioned.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  19 дней назад +1

      Hey David! I would recommend just continuing with our normal game plan! Ng6/Nf6/Bc5 (or Bb4, really whatever they give us), d6, 0-0 etc. (also the moves I showed were not in order necessarily but just the moves we are looking for.
      c4 might look scary but it is going to be hard for white to push that pawn any further as we have solid control of the dark-squares, so I think we are okay there.
      Hope this helps!
      Thanks,
      Solomon
