I'm a dyed in the wool Firefly Fan..... I was one of the Fandom that did a lotta hatin on Fox for cancelling it. Jon Favreau's work on the Madalorian brought me hope for the Star Wars Franchise. But MOST OF ALL..... you cannot make it another "Woke, Preachy" show especially the history with Firefly's rather Anarcho-Libertarian view. It's born in a Gritty 'Verse with a lot of mistrust Authoritarian Government types. To do otherwise would be gos se!
One of the reasons Firefly worked so well is that it was Mal's Story; every character (including the ship) was an aspect of Mal's psyche he lost at the Battle of Serenity Valley that he's trying to regain. Serenity was Mal's sense of freedom. Inara was Mal's heart, that's why he fought with her so often and was always in a dark mood when she wasn't on the ship. Zoe was Mal's sense of loyalty and duty. Wash was Mal's sense of humor and talent, Jayne was Mal's lower urges, Kaylee was Mal's sense of joy and happiness, Book was Mal's conscience and represented his loss of faith, Simon was Mal's inspiration and aspiration to great, heroic deeds, and River was Mal's curiosity and innocence. If they don't reboot the series with this in mind, I think it will fall flat.
I'm not very hopeful for this to be honest. Yes, they can recreate the technology. They can recreate the world-building. The special effects will be prettier. But what made Firefly so beloved was the characters and the chemistry between them. And THAT is what is extremely difficult to recreate. I have a feeling this show will feel as hollow as the Star Wars sequels. Very pretty but with no soul. Just my two cents.
Yep…I was getting progressively more excited, then found out it’s a Disney project. Now I’m angry and sad, because this thing is gonna be a train wreck…
What drew me into Firefly was not the action, goofy stories, or special effects. It was the sense of family with this crew. Not sure if Disney can recapture that magic in the bottle. My favorite scenes were always the banter between these characters at the dinner table.
I’m pretty sure they can’t recapture it. They’ve repeatedly demonstrated that all they can do is capture the shallowest, look and feel, and often fail at that. At the moment, Disney is a propaganda company, not an entertainment company.
I agree nobody could recapture that magic. Not even Joss and the original crew. But don't look at it as trying to do that. Look at it as new tales in the Verse.
@@akeel_1701 Except it's probably not gunna be Jon and his team running the show (They're busy enough with their SW projects). Disney will likely put someone in charge that only has a passing knowledge of Firefly/Serenity and just wants to use it as a platform to push their agenda but will get the job because they fill some racial, gender, or alphabet quota.
I'm worried about Disney. Honestly I'm more excited about Star Gate coming back on Amazon, but I will definitely watch at least the first few episodes to give it a chance before deciding anything.
@@DenverStarkey Eh, I don't really keep track, of that kind of stuff, just one of those "wish they would" kinda things ya know, like Stargate, wish someone would bring that back if they did it right, SGU got cancelled right when it finally started to get decent.
The original cancellation of Firefly was tragic but I wouldn't be interested in a renewal without all the original cast returning in their original characters. They were the heart of the show together with some of the cleverest writing anywhere.
I agree, it was the cast that made 'Firefly' I was devastated when it was not continued as I think that by season 4 it would be amazing. I just don't think a re-boot can do it justice.
Can one actually achieve Firefly without Joss Whedon? I mean, he created the magic in the first place and now, with Ron Glass gone, can they truly re-create it ?
@Jopino594Mal never insults Inara except to insult her job. I don't think he'd have an issue with any other companion, he just doesn't want Inara to sleep with people. It's not logical, but I get him. It's like Inara crying because Mal slept with someone else; she sleeps with other people every day. It's two broken people who handle things poorly
Without Joss Whedon and the original Firefly crew, the Firefly Universe could not truly still exist in my mind. Very few shows have ever came back as good or even half the show they were. I would like to be wrong but Disney seems to me to be a Fox from a different Universe. I wish them luck.
Firefly had one of the most amazing casts in the history of TV (I admit I am biased). I would love to see any or all of those fantastic actors back in character at some point. However, I hope the brains at Disney lets them play aged and potentially wiser (except of Jane?) versions of their characters with new characters added.
@@austinjacobs9311 - I think they should take some lessons from the Cobra Kai phenomenon. Everyone is older, some people are dead but the struggle of life goes on in the harsh outer rim planets.
Overall I would love love love to have a firefly reboot! However, having Disney do it seems like handing a treasure to the enemy and expecting good things to come from it.
That's my kind of feeling on it... Firefly was for the rebels of society those that threw political correctness out the window.... The wokeness of Disney could really ruin this. It's going to take a strong character to be able to do this right and be able to tell Disney wokness tugs to go shove it.
Fingers crossed this show comes back with as much as the original cast as possible. This misfit crew had great chemistry which showed on screen and made each episode enjoyable to watch. Unfortunately the Original Firefly had the worst timeslot during the week and didn't get the time to build that massive fan base it deserved. Disney knows there is a large enough fan base now or they wouldn't be considering a reboot. If the show does reboot and they stick to it's original direction ( insert Joss Whedon ) I think Disney would have a hit show. Count me in as a Brown coat supporter... bring back the Firefly and her crew !
Are you that naive? What hasn't Disney ruined in the last 12 years? This is an anti government, anti corporate, anti military industrial complex show that promoted family. How would a mega corp bigger than Fox who's major sponsors are the government and Lockheed Martin/Pfizer not butcher this show?
When Firefly ended part of me inside died. It had a way of stirring something deep inside that no other show had ever done. I didn't even know it was possible to connect with a show that completely that deeply. And then to have it end just as it was really finding itself was devastating. I would love a reboot and to see all of the original characters and I honestly think if Josh Wheaton isn't in on it not doing it the only one who could possibly come close would be
When Disney bought the rights to Marvel, I wasn't thrilled. When they bought the rights to Star Wars, I was like "WHAT!?! Now that they've bought the rights to Firefly, I'm quite dubious. What won't Disney get their hands on next? Anyway, Mandalorian is good. What I've seen of Boba Fett, is pretty decent too. BUT a Firefly reboot? The jury's out on that one. If I know Disney, they love to change things as well as homogenize it!
I"m willing to toss that coin. Best case scenario? we get a good sequel/reboot/expansion/whatever it is. Worst case scenario? We have some bad show we ignore while we rewatch the originals. There's not much to lose.
Actually, nobody knows the drive of Firefly fans -- if we Browncoats can pay for 250,000 Firefly and Serenity DVDs, and send them to US military servicemembers, we can do anything! What this means for the Mouse is simple: If Firefly gets a reboot, and makes it worth no more than gorram mud, we Browncoats will do everything we know to airlock Kathleen Kennedy out of Disney. And unlike the Battle of Serenity Valley, we will win. We are talkin' 'bout a fandom that got made a movie 'bout our favorite girl and her very shiny crew, after all -- just ask The Fox how much they get despised to this day, because of how low-down and dirty they did our girl Serenity wrong, back 20 years. We Browncoats won't stand to be back-stabbed and bushwhacked twice, y'know.
IMO, No. That's just pandering to nostalgia. Bringing up older characters will never recapture the feeling of the show, characters, etc. More importantly, they need to start their own series so it can last. They have a universe with a style, settlings, history, etc. Try a new ship, crew, and give them their own stories. If it works... then they've proven that tell multiple stories in the Firefly universe. If not, they're stuck to older actors, existing stories, plot, and such.
I love FireFly. As much as I'd like to see more of it, I don't think anyone could do it justice. The original cast and crew was a unique combination that would be next to impossible to recreate.
I dont see this happening without joss being on board. Also since the original actors can't all do it or be apart of it their best bet would be to tell a different story / different crew, it CANNOT retell the same story. And no I also don't trust Disney to do it justice.
If they wanna do an awesome reboot a series based on shepherd book would be an amazing start. When he was young and how he came to where he met mal and the gang.
I would love to see more Firefly shows! I have been a fan forever! Please bring it back, it would be so appreciated! And as far as which stars to bring back ... I would love to see them all!
I would prefer to have the children of the Firefly characters pick up Serenity and learn the ways of Misbehaving from them. i.e. the original cast come in as "advisors" or "recalled memories" to the kids...
Not that it would happen anyway I guess but Ron Glass that played Shepard Book died a few years ago, if you wanted a continuation from the Serenity movie I guess it would work out.
as some one that has watched the series and movie over and over and have always wanted more they would have to be true to its nature and not water it down if they can reboot it and not wind up with a glass of weak tea i'm all for it
Will have to see how this turns out. The original series had awesome charm. Will be super hard to replicate imo but good to see Firefly getting some love
We have a sayer here in Austria (next to Germany): "Only Gulasch (Hungarian stew) tastes good rewarmed up again!" This also counts for relationships. Guys, please don't mess with my beloved Firefly
@joshuacr Firefly’s large following is not due to nostalgia if that was your meaning. It’s the uniquely great writing. A “family friendly” Disney reboot will be an absolute disaster.
IF they are able to tie Jon Favreau to this project... and IF they are able to work with Joss Whedon OR Tim Minear... IF they are able to capture some of the original cast... I might be optimistic about this. But that's a lot of if's, and I'm in the camp that Firefly was perfect the way it was. It doesn't need more. Not if that risks tarnishing what we already have. Also, it's kind of funny to hear Star Wars described as a "mini-universe..." lol.
We sign off on those IFs! Let's hope they get it right. And you are right Star Wars is not Mini. I think what we were going for is that small world inside of Star Wars that they seem to be connecting with Mando, Boba, Ahsoka and the upcoming Obi Wan. Great comment!
Firefly was great because every single castmember was a star. I am somewhat hopeful about the reboot, but Disney has a tendency to suck the soul out of the properties they are trying to milk, and without someone from the original franchise to guide them it is hard to imagine it not losing its way fast.
Without Joss Whedon on board, I can only assume that this idea is going to be a non-starter. Disney should be very careful about how they proceed, every browncoat in the world is going to be vastly critical about this. I haven't seen anything on the subject yet, and I already almost hate it.
This is something that will be very tough to recreate, even with the original cast, save R. Glass. Rest In Peace Shepherd. The dialog alone was a masterpiece in writing when considering the exchanges between characters. Now Disney, of all corporations, is wanting to recreate something that incredible without the very things that made it that way. How can anyone above the age of 13 take them seriously anymore? Firefly was a gem that Fox wasn’t even smart enough to hold onto. If that weren’t bad enough, now Disney, the one’s who backed the Bed Shitter and managed to completely ruin the most iconic sci-fi franchise of all time. Please Disney, do yourself and all of us a favor, leave Firefly where it is. You guys are about as competent as congress when it comes to reboots.
I remember being offered work as an extra on "Firefly" but I turned it down. Boy do I still regret that terrible decision. I'm now a HUGE "Firefly" fan. Maybe this will be my second chance, and maybe this time I'll land a principal role.
@@dasparado I've work as a background actor for Central Casting for the past 25 years. Now, when they cast a show, like "Star Wars: The Mandalorian", "Picard" or "Book of Boba Fett" casting uses fake titles so we, their actors, don't reveal on social media what projects we're going to. These phony titles are routinely changed to protect the shows' anonymity. Therefore, if I book a part on the "Firefly" reboot, I'd have no way of knowing until I either: 1) show up for a wardrobe fitting, 2) arrive at production base camp or the filming location. BUT... I would love a second shot at being on "Firefly".
@@01GoodGrief You're gonna wanna kick me in the teeth for this, but because I wanted to be on "Star Trek: Enterprise". My stepmom was a booking agent for ICM in their New York office, and years earlier Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher) met with her to discuss a side project the cast of "The Next Generation" was considering. Gates noticed my picture on Sarah's desk, and she told Gates I'm a huge fan and wanted to be on "Star Trek". Gates pulled out a headshot and signed it with a gold ink pen. As she handed the photo to Sarah, Gates said, "Tell Matthew his ship will come in." That started me on the quest to be on "Star Trek". I didn't care about anything else. The problem is, at the time if you told Central Casting you wanted to be on "Star Trek" they made sure you did not work on "Star Trek". Casting didn't want to risk putting crazy "Star Trek" fans on the show. "Firefly" just seemed, at the time, like a less appealing compromise to my "Star Trek" dream. I deeply regret my decision.
I'm a brown coat most definitely and Firefly was a shinning star snuffed out before its time. The magic of the Serinity family and their exploits can never be recaptured. I feel that if there is a story is to be told, then use new characters a new ship, alter it. Don't mess with a classic. It takes away from the magic. You don't need to Re-Boot everything.
I commented about the same thing, above. Even if they do use Serenity, I would want a whole new crew. I don't want to see a female captain Mal, or some other nonsense. Just give us a brand new space show with all new actor.
Honestly I didnt want a firefly reboot, but I admit Favreau and Filoni has so much respect for the fans that I would love to see them doing a new firefly series....on the condition you will have Favreau and Filoni doing it!
@@ThePopcast Except that the Mandalorian is poorly written and pedestrian...and the BoBF is even worse. You guys have some serious fanboyism going on. When the only thing a show has going for it is baby Yoda, that's a problem. It makes me very sad that Disney will be in any way involved with FIrefly. Guess they just get to destroy another franchise. We should just go ahead and give them Star Trek, too. Not that there's much left to pick off of that corpse. When big corporations get involved in pop culture, things die on the vine. Too many corporations buying into Shepowerment-at-all-costs. Pandering, in other words. Just look at what has happened to Marvel Comics.
I found out about Firefly, after watching Serenity. A great show. I really would like it to return, but the likelihood that the entire cast would return is unlikely, considering how long ago this show finished, plus what those actors are now doing; The Rookie with Nathan Fillion, for example.
As much as I would love to see more and new Firefly material, I think it has it's time and makes what there is the more special. And I am happy enough to pull out the original every now and then just to rewatch it. It never gets old and always feels new even though I have seen as many times as I have, I have lost count.
I am totally on board with more FireFly, but they must get Nathan - he was the glue that held it together. I think it has awesome potential with the two Daves, but they definitely need Joss on the team.
I would love to see the story continue from the original series with the entire original cast. I believe Favreau will keep it in the same style to start it off and I think he will consult with Whedon. The original cast would have to start it off though. I think it could be great.
What made firefly so good in my view 1. The cast. They were all like a family while filming they all socialised and ate food together Thanks to Nathan Fillion . They all supported each other
Yeah. Im not even sure if they didi it like 10 years later with the same cast and same director/crew, if it would be possible to recapture the spirit. I think it was special poeple that meet at a special time and had a special story to tell. Its very hard to rethread such stuff.
Nooooo! Hasn't Disney ruined enough IPs? They've destroyed Star Wars, ravaged Indiana Jones, and massacred all their own characters and stories on the altar of ESG/DEI! This is the worst news ever!
Let's be clear I'm trying to keep an open mind about this , but after watching the last few episodes of Boba Fett , I'm not crazy about Disney doing this one. Wouldn't be the first time Disney would take a popular franchise and run it in the ground...but what the hell , they might surprise us. lol
Hey Brian, great comment! I think we have the Hopium going here as well. Was curious as to your thoughts on the new Boba Fett show and why you don't like it. We've been really enjoying it. We'll be talking about it on the live show here shortly, but curious as to what you are not liking about it. Great comment!
"Firefly" was a wonderfully fresh version of space in the future. The tragedy is it lasted one season - actually they pulled the plug after four episodes if I remember right. They killed it like they did with the original "Star Trek" though "Firefly" had no chance at all. The casting was so key to both of those shows. After 20 years I think they could have the original actors return and I think you'd need Joss Wheldon too.
They got most of the way through the series, but aired it in an unpopulartimeslot and showed it out of order. So it suffered from being dumped into a dead timeslot, and confused viewers who did bother to watch it because its episodes were aired randomly. They didn't even start with the pilot episodes, so viewers wondered who these people were, because its introduction hadn't been televised.
I would love to see it happen. There is a window of time between when the show ended and the movie picked up, that I think could work to start things off. With the passing of Glass, Shepherd's character is better off being out of reboot. Another option is to bring Allen Tudic back as a completely different character and watch the dynamic happen with a traumatized crew, even if they can't officially use the movie time-line.
Is KK supposed to be one of the Hutts? While that might be a great zinger, it's not exactly making the show a must see. In fact, I'm giving it one more episode before bailing.
Why? I really do not understand the worshipping at the Favreau alter. He is a hit and miss director and a terrible writer. He turned Boba Fett into Beta Fett. It is so sad really. There is NO WAY he or anyone else at Disney can write Firefly or do it any justice. But hey... modern day Hollywood has ruined just about every other I.P. so why not this one too?! Just leave it alone for F's sake!
I'm crushed! First Disney f**ks up Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm. Now theyre coming after one of my all-time favorite shows. This will not end well. UGH!!!!
I love that world. They created something truly amazing with Firefly. I don't think it would be the same with other actors. Then with Wash dead, I just have a bad feeling about how the show would be if brought back. It would either be a prequel series, take place after the events of the former series & movie, or just be entirely separate. Any way they go with it we're left wading through memories. I really don't know if I want more episodes at this point. I love the show that we got.
This series deserves more than any that I can think of to be rebooted. I just hope they don't screw it up. You must give Joss Creative control. He so deserves it.
Have to disagree here. Heard various discussions that made it clear, Joss started the kiln and melted the ore, but it took many to forge that into the Firefly we love. Various ideas of his needed tempering to succeed.
It goes without saying that it wasn't just Joss Whedon who made Firefly great. There's no one in the business that can do it alone to the same extent as the ones who make the best sci-fi. You can try. Next.
They had a Firefly class ship in the BSG pilot. That was fun and in the Firefly episode "heart of gold" they had a silhouette of a constitution class during the Earth that was puppet show. Just some fun stuff for the firefly fans.
As long as Joss Whedon isn’t connected to Firefly (other than a screen credit) I’m onboard. Then again, this is last year’s seafood wrapped in old news. 🐟
If I were to do this just from a creative perspective id include the old cast on an old hard drive where they are being lead to the truth because the alliance finally struck back at thrm and the new owners of the Serenity are sucked into this weird war. Summer aka River is still relatively young and could easily join a new crew as she's now looking to save her brother in a weird twist of events. Maybe Mal and Anara make an appearance and held the new crew leading to some fun captain captain jokes as who is the captain. But ultimately maybe Jayne is the Mayor of Mudtown now and gives them refuge at one point because he has fond memories of Serenity and how it straightened him out a bit but he still has some misbehaving in him. Anyways fun to think of.
Sounds as if you ought to submit a script or two! While I would want to see Nathan Fillion return in a permanent and central role, I liked several of your other ideas!
@@docwho1912 thank I appreciate it i need an agent first. Lol but hes on the rookie so that wont happen. Unfortunately I too would love to have him back but conflicts. I like having him as a mythical figure someone who took on the alliance.
Ron Glass, who played Sheppard Book, passed a few years ago, he was integral to the crew's dynamic, could they go on without him, yes, but the gulf of his absence is going to be neigh impossible to bridge without some serious back story and they would mess that up, along with forcing a new member of the crew into our laps, they'll mess that up too. Just leave legends in the dust from whence they were discovered and allow us our memories without contamination. Joss's Firefly will never be replaced, will never be as titanic as the original, and most of that is because of the years it has been re-watched, and reminisced about.
Looks like I aim to be lukewarm. This show is going to need more than love to stay in the air. I have 1,000,000 interest in a new Firefly show. I have 0 interest in a Firefly show from Disney+. The IP needs to be owned by HBO, or *maybe* Netflix. Not Disney. Oh well.
Your money is SAFE in your bank account. You have ZERO risk to any money you would spend on Disney Plus because there is ZERO chance they wont fuck it up.
I am one hundred percent backing a reboot. So many Browncoats out here stranded for so long. Caveats Galore. YES I want to see as many of the original cast as possible. The original series and Firefly movie had so much Grit! The characters played off one another so well and the storytelling was top notch. If Disney+ can keep that original chemistry rolling then I am cautious, If Joss is in the mix then take my money. I have everything for the Firefly boardgame and published episodes. PLEASE do not dumb it down and PLEASE keep it adult. let the babysitter show Star Wars and the Adults experience FIREFLY!
I am on board with this series; granted I would love to see some evolution from the older crew over the years.Though I know sadly Derrial Book's character will not be back seeing how the actor that played him Ron Glass unfortunately died in 2016. I wonder if the crew would still be together or doing their own thing after all these years.
The cast made Firefly what it was, what it is in our memories. The Chemistry of the cast won't be easy to replicate, I wish them luck, but I'm not holding my breath.
I hope it’s more of a revival than a reboot. Let the dead characters stay dead, don’t “reintroduce” the characters who survived, and simply continue the story, even if it’s with a different set of characters.
I love Firefly so much its a great example of cultural appreciation I hope they keep that the same. An bring back the original cast idc if their older and need stunt devils ☺
Good video Popcast, I enjoyed it. Dang: "I wouldn't trust Disney to reboot their own computers" is a fantastic line! And it's applicable to so many different companies and scenarios. I suspect I'll be paraphrasing it in the future, when it's applicable to the situation. Glad I caught this episode. Keep up the good work.
I disagree when it comes to the show What If...., but generally, you appear to be correct. I can't think of anything amazing from let's say, Falcon and the Winter Soldier television show in regards to dialogue.
would be a miracle if they make it work. It can be done. Star trek did it with the next generation and made it even better but trying to capture the magic of firefly is useless without Joss Wheadon
Bull. I'm done with Whedon, I don't forgive him for killing off my favorite characters in several of his shows. That said, Firefly can't be what Firefly was, it's not possible. If they just have Serenity and a whole new crew, that will be better than trying to have a different Mal or Book or Kaley. We will always remember the first ones.
TNG was not a reboot, it was a continuation, merely building upon the same universe and respecting the series that came before, right down to having actual TOS cast members occasionally featured in it. The new movies with the entire TOS cast replaced with new actors are reboots. A reboot by definition is where you take the basic theme of an older show or movie and do it all over from scratch with new cast and remixed storyline.
No reboot of the original show! It's been twenty years, if they want to do a series with an entirely different crew in the same setting would be far better than trying to recast the original.
While I am very impressed with John Favreau and Dave Filoni basically saving Star Wars, I am concerned that Disney now plans to put all their eggs in this one basket. They learned their lesson from the sequel trilogy debacle and actually utilize fans of Star Wars to make Star Wars now, and the difference is stark. But as great as these two are, I fear Disney is now overcompensating and relying entirely on them, which could set up a disaster in its own right. Reboot Firefly using directors and writers who are passionate fans, but don't rely on Favreau and Filoni for everything.
I am definitely in the "I don't trust DIsney to reboot their own computer" camp. Anything Disney touches goes to shit. They treat bought IPs as a cash cow and soulless propaganda platform with absolutely no regard for the IP's original inspirations and source, the fanbase or the legacy. They are even doing it to their "own IP" (such as they have...strictly speaking, nothing outside the Micky&Donald universe can be considered Disney's original IP). If they want Firefly reboot to work, they need to give it to Wheadon, get as much as possible of the original crew and set assets and give Wheadon full creative autonomy....like that's gonna happen...
They could have a Wash clone appear, some kind of backup insurance he took out - would be an interesting dynamic with his wife not being his wife and the Wash clone not being Wash.
I think the setting and world building of Firefly is great! Though of course we love the characters, I can see a good chance to not only reboot, but expand on the universe and overall theme for Firefly. The unique focus on the average crew of a shady cargo hauler making a living out any job available, rather than a hero cast saving the universe, or at least a planet, yet again was refreshing and very relatable. I think we can easily connect to either a continuation of the Firefly story, or even another story arc around a different crew in that same universe. Though I would love to see the backstory of Rev. Brooke, where the Assassins originated, etc. ...but ultimately it is the world these stories took place in, that hooked hundreds of thousands of fans.
I love Firefly, but I'm unsure how I feel about a reboot. I think I'd prefer a new crew, or a new ship with new stories. With that said, anything with Favreau and Filoni attached will most likely be awesome.
It would be so cool if they could get the original cast minus Wash and the Shepherd as a continuation to the series with the past years passed by in their timeline also. Back stories of the time passed by would also be a treasure trove.

I never thought of that representation of the characters, it's brilliant!
Agreed!
I love this
I think you nailed it!
THIS!
Yep, absolutely
Agreed.
Nailed it.
I don't trust Disney to breath properly much less not foxtrot up a comples much loved world.
Yep…I was getting progressively more excited, then found out it’s a Disney project. Now I’m angry and sad, because this thing is gonna be a train wreck…
I want Nathan and Alan back. Their characters are immortal and humor unmatched. But Disney can screw up a bowl of cereal.
But it would be a woke bowl of cereal.
SPOILER ALERT: (not too immortal, apparently...;-))
Alan failed to be a "leave on the wind."
I am of two minds on this. I do not think anyone could recapture the magic of the original cast but I would like to see more of the firefly universe.
Absolutely agree.
Same. Totally agree.
I agree nobody could recapture that magic. Not even Joss and the original crew. But don't look at it as trying to do that. Look at it as new tales in the Verse.
Casting is the key
Same! That cast was magic, and expecting the same seems fruitless. But that doesn’t mean I’m not over hear chasing those fruits lol
After what Disney's done to Star Wars and Marvel, why would any Firefly fan be excited for this?
because they're not looking at the mess JJ, KK and RJ made, they seem to be just focusing on thw work of Jon Favreau and his team
Disney is the kiss of death to fan favorites. They can just step back and kick themselves in the ass for even considering a Firefly reboot.
I'm worried about Disney. Honestly I'm more excited about Star Gate coming back on Amazon, but I will definitely watch at least the first few episodes to give it a chance before deciding anything.
Yeah, I was hoping Amazon would pick up Firefly, a lot less likely to screw it up imo.

Too true. I loved that crew (except Mal, I wasn't crazy about his emotional short comings). But I loved all the rest.
The CAST definitely made the show!

Without Joss Whedon and the original Firefly crew, the Firefly Universe could not truly still exist in my mind. Very few shows have ever came back as good or even half the show they were. I would like to be wrong but Disney seems to me to be a Fox from a different Universe. I wish them luck.
Joss Whedon will not be anywhere close to the production regardless of the original cast’s presence or lack thereof
No way Disney hires Joss as executive producer, writer or any other role and that kills any interest in 98.6% of Firefly fans.
@@chetstevens4583 yep without Joss writing it will suck ass, almost guaranteed.

Firefly had one of the most amazing casts in the history of TV (I admit I am biased). I would love to see any or all of those fantastic actors back in character at some point. However, I hope the brains at Disney lets them play aged and potentially wiser (except of Jane?) versions of their characters with new characters added.

Overall I would love love love to have a firefly reboot! However, having Disney do it seems like handing a treasure to the enemy and expecting good things to come from it.
Kind of like how Biden handed the Taliban billions of equipment? Waiting for the shoe to fall on that one, and it will.
Right, might as well hand it off to Jar Jar Abrams so he can foul it up like he did Star Trek and Star Wars.
Sadly, Disney is no longer my Love.
Exactly!

Please God no. If disney thinks they got flack for f’ing up Star Wars, just wait to the hell fire they’ll receive for screwing up our beloved Firefly.
Yeah it's going to be tough for them to get this right. We pray they nail it!
If the Mando guys are doing it, it might be great. It does seem a bit too good to be true though.

If they could do it right, I would want as many of the original characters back as possible. I absolutely loved Jayne! He was a lot of fun!

No ... not Disney
Firefly was great because every single castmember was a star. I am somewhat hopeful about the reboot, but Disney has a tendency to suck the soul out of the properties they are trying to milk, and without someone from the original franchise to guide them it is hard to imagine it not losing its way fast.
It's inconceivable that this is going to be any good. Forget it. It's over.

These phony titles are routinely changed to protect the shows' anonymity. Therefore, if I book a part on the "Firefly" reboot, I'd have no way of knowing until I either: 1) show up for a wardrobe fitting, 2) arrive at production base camp or the filming location. BUT... @@MattGrossChannel you have me curious. Why did you pass on the opportunity the first time?

Suits can never really live it like the fans do.
i remember realizing the firefly class ship making an appearance in Battlestar Galactica
It would be awesome to see the crew back. New actors would have to bring it hard to match what the original cast had. What an amazing show.
If you haven't seen how Favreau is taking on KK in The Book of Boba Fett, you need to check it out. If he is involved, I trust him with Firefly.
Where is this?
Is KK supposed to be one of the Hutts? While that might be a great zinger, it's not exactly making the show a must see. In fact, I'm giving it one more episode before bailing.
But he can't write better dialogues and one liners like joss whedon tho
If a reboot is done, do it with the original cast and Joss Whedon or not at all. Don't mess with greatness!!!
I'm crushed! First Disney f**ks up Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm. Now theyre coming after one of my all-time favorite shows. This will not end well. UGH!!!!
They can't take the sky from us. Just don't watch it.
Next.
Disney will pimp it all out like Star Wars and take out all the adult dialog that would make it real. That's marketing strategies.
At the beginning of the vid I thought Disney has a 95% chance of screwing this up. By the end, maybe it’s only a 90% chance?
Vinzetto, seriously sparkling water shot out of my nose when I read this LMAO!
Yep, this.

If Disney+ does bring it back, I'll actually pay for it - for at least a few months, for years if they do a good job with Firefly.
Your money is SAFE in your bank account. You have ZERO risk to any money you would spend on Disney Plus because there is ZERO chance they wont fuck it up.
I would love a comeback but i'm not going to hold my breath - that was one of my favorite shows.

I wonder if the crew would still be together or doing their own thing after all these years.
original Actors have a group text and do stay in touch... at least as a couple

You'll never have a cast that gels that fast and well again, and Disney's only concern now is 'the message'.
The cast made Firefly what it was, what it is in our memories. The Chemistry of the cast won't be easy to replicate, I wish them luck, but I'm not holding my breath.
I would love a Firefly reboot. I want all the main characters back and I want it now!!!
Ron glass died in 2016
@@danielpseery6861 yeah I know, I can't believe it was that long ago, bloody sad.
Firefly reboot: Yes. Any money to Disney: HELL NO.
This will be terrible. What made the show so great was the dialog and let's be honesty Disney shows do not do dialog just special effects.
I disagree when it comes to the show What If...., but generally, you appear to be correct. I can't think of anything amazing from let's say, Falcon and the Winter Soldier television show in regards to dialogue.
@@joshuacr I like the winter soldier movie dialogues and one liners better than that sjw dialogues on the tv show

_"Firefly_ is coming back!" Yay!
"On Disney+!" Ah, fuck...
1:50 One does not "squash" rumors; one "quashes" rumors. Remember: if it's physical, one squashes it, otherwise, one quashes it.
would be a miracle if they make it work.
Is like the networks wanted the original Firefly series to tank! To boot talks of a reboot, so far, have been ambiguous!
Honestly, if this adds on to what little firefly lore we had, I'm more than willing to give it a try.
Have you checked out the Dark Horse comics?
I love Firefly, but I'm unsure how I feel about a reboot. I think I'd prefer a new crew, or a new ship with new stories. With that said, anything with Favreau and Filoni attached will most likely be awesome.
Sometimes Favreau gets it horribly wrong though. Remember Cowboys and Aliens? 😱
@@snowysnowyriver Haha! I guess you got a point there. I'd say his arrows hit more than miss though.
It would be so cool if they could get the original cast minus Wash and the Shepherd as a continuation to the series with the past years passed by in their timeline also. Back stories of the time passed by would also be a treasure trove.
Been hoping too long, I'm jaded now. I'll believe it when I see it.
