    I think the different vowels in that line are intentional to match the call she's hearing. She mimics the call throughout the movie.

    Idina is singing the song as ‘Elsa’ , she’s acting/singing so it’s very different to the other version which is just sung like any song.

      Exactly. You have to think this in the context that it's a Disney movie so the characters they're voicing are going to be moving around in the scenes they sing, and someone belting out a word while running around without it breaking would be pretty unrealistic. (Not saying disney movies in general are realistic) For example when Idina sings the first "into the unknown" she's doing it on a balcony into the distance, and she has to make it seem like she's longing for whatever's out there. She had to sing the line like her voice is reaching for it, not shouting for it once and that's it.

  • @blandsalsa8796

    The reason there is 3 different vowels in the last Unknown is because she is mimicking the call of Ah-ah-Ah.. that starts the song, she is answering it in that melody, I love Brendon version but it lacks the "Response" to the call and the Rock/pop instrumentals are too much for me, That's why I prefer Idina's version. Also just wanted to say that 3 vowels are in every language dub.. Every singer who played Elsa did that so..

    • @theblurredlights
      @theblurredlights 4 года назад +177

      I think the problem here is that she's listening to the song as if it were just a song--not a story being told. When listening to songs from musicals, you have to keep in mind what the song is saying because it dictates how it needs to be sung. Chazza 'Feb' mentioned that it's a musical motif, and she's right. I love the drive that Brendon Urie gives to the song--but Idina's version is the one that's perfect for the story being told.

      Please explain better :)

    • @ThePerksdeLeSarcasmeSiorai
      @ThePerksdeLeSarcasmeSiorai 4 года назад +6

      Ramen Cat l thought it was clearly explained but I don’t mind going over it again.
      The audio video in which this voice actress reacts to was originally recorded from the “Frozen 2” animated movie in 2019 and released by DisneyVEVO’s RUclips channel approximately 1 week before the animated movie was in released to theaters. And hence, it IS the original version and how the song should be sung to express Elsa’s dilemma and conflicted answer toward the strange calling she heard from the unknown distance. That’s why the song is titled “Into The Unknown”.
      Saying that it’s “Idina Menzel’s version” not only discredits Idina Menzel’s originality from the song and Frozen as a whole but also renders her contribution to just “one of the covers”. Without her, there would be no Brendon Urie’s version of “Into The Unknown”. Just like how Demi Lovato’s uneducated and crazy fans once proceeded to say that “Let It Go” was “her song” until they were silenced by those who watched Frozen. And Disney isn’t known to be lax in terms of copyright of their trademarks (Frozen included).
      Laws regarding intellectual property exist for a reason because they protect an artist’s work from being plagiarized by others. Just imagine that this RUclipsr’s original work is considered as “one of the covers”, will she be pissed off as well ?
      Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think one should have the ownership of a song but we should establish the boundary between “the original” and “the covers” for the sake of honoring the artist (who, in this case, is Idina Menzel who originally performed “Into The Unknown”). Idina Menzel should be credited as “the original Elsa” or “original performer of Let It Go, Into The Unknown, and Show Yourself”, NOT “Idina Menzel’s version”.

      If you want to be technical, Brendon's version came out first. I understand the "original version written for...Elsa" but I just think you're being a bit too technical.
      Also, they changed it for Brendon, as most of those remakes are rewritten.

      If you read the description for the Brendon Urie video, you'll find that Urie was actually a vocal student of the channel's founder. Her favoring Urie over Idina Menzel makes sense when you consider this. Still, I think she's wrong. I like both interpretations of the song for different reasons. Both Menzel and Urie make choices that make sense within their respective song styles. Menzel's choices make more sense in the context of the movie, and Urie's choices make sense in the context of trying to deviate from the original song enough to exist within its own context. I would've been more interested in hearing comments about Aurora's voice, how that pairs with Menzel's, and how it contrasts with how Urie handled her part. I'm thoroughly disappointed.

I'm taking into account things that aren't obvious too, like the fact that she's going to be asked to sing this EVERYWHERE she goes now. Frozen is part of her life so I respect that she's trying to make it beautiful but she needs to preserve her voice too. Could she make it sound cleaner? I believe so but I'm not worried it, sounds over the moon just as it is.

      It's pretty well known in the vocal coach world that idina Menzel has pretty bad technique. Her notes are impressive, but she's right when she says that she's pushed her chest register too far. It will end up destroying her vocal chords. If you can't reach those notes without screwing up your technique, you shouldn't be going for those notes yet. She's a professional, who knows what she's talking about. And she's not the only one. It is definitely not jealousy. If it was, she would criticize every amazing singer the same way.

    Honestly. I didn't come here for a comparison between Brendon Urie's cover and Idina Menzel's "version". Idina is an actress. The difference in the vowels exists so there can be more emotion and to make it sound bigger. I'm a huge Brendon Urie fan don't get me wrong here. But you can't compare two artists who had completely different outtakes from the song. Like you said in the beginning. It didn't sound like the same song because it simply is not. But that's just my opinion. But throwing shade towards a singer who's been doing broadway and comparing her to a pop singer is not cool. In broadway everything NEEDS to be loud and big and dramatic. Just my opinion though...

  • @marianas7404

    Idina is acting as well as singing. When she uses those vowels she is also mimicking the ah-ah-ah-ah in the movie that is calling her. You should try to watch the movie before you react to the songs. Also, I feel like you are viewing Brendon’s version as though it’s the original, which it isn’t. Idina has to go for the wider vowels in order to hit those notes. The notes are so hard all on their own, but Idina also has asthma, so that adds on extra strain when she's singing. Whatever vowel modifications she has to make in order to hit those notes, I say go for it. And, personally, I do like the "AH" vowel she uses with those third "Into the Unknown"s. I think it sounds good. That's my personal opinion, though. I do have extensive vocal training of my own, but I'm not an actual vocal coach, so obviously we're gonna differ on opinions with stuff. But then again, everyone has their own opinions on how songs are sung. Nothing wrong with that.

She barely managed to finish the song, then as soon as it was over she had to rush off stage and was taken to the hospital by ambulance while still in full green makeup. It was crazy. All this hardcore singing she has to do for the original Frozen movie and Frozen 2 are not good for her. It's destroying her voice. She used to be absolutely amazing when singing live, and now she always sounds so raspy and her voice cracks and she can't do the high notes. I saw a video a few days ago of her singing I think it was 'Show Yourself', and she sounded horrible. You could just hear how much she was straining her voice just to get through it. I feel so bad for her. She has pushed herself way too much over the years, and her voice has payed the price for it. She's messing up on every note!", and then there are the few of us who know the sad truth. Frozen was the real beginning of the end. She was still so amazingly good at singing back when she did her last show on Broadway, which I think was 'If/Then', and then she stopped Broadway when she was cast as Elsa, and her voice now sounds nothing the way it did back then. There are people who are upset that she seemed biased against Idina and yet those same people insult Brandon's version as if it makes them right.
    Not to mention but she complimented Idina but everyone else only wants to focus on the negatives.

    The 3 different vowels is because she’s responding to the “Ah ah ah”. In other words that’s how the song should be sang.

    There's also the fact she's doing it in a characters voice

    I actually love the 3 different vowels. And I like her version better.

    The higher "ah-ah-ah-ah" is sung by a Norwegian singer called aurora. Hence why her name is credited in the end credits as "the voice" or something like that.

    This song makes more sense with the scene it’s from. I like both versions 🤷‍♀️

      Same, Brendon made me want to watch the movie, seeing the scene on RUclips made me want to watch the movie too, because it was visually amazing. Which says a lot, because I hated the first Frozen movie

    Do you think she does that because of the character?

      Yes, I think many of her dynamic choices here are character-driven! Idina is a great actress and knows how to interpret a song. However, knowing her voice and body of work quite well, I think some of her vocal choices are also telling of what kind of technique she relies on to get to the high notes.

    I mean, the different vowels are literally how Broadway singers are trained to sing. It's not worse...it's how I was taught to sing, it just makes it easier if you have to hit these crazy notes night after night and have them understandable and not chew up your throat. :P

    What? This isn’t Brendons, it says in his video it’s a cover from THIS. This girl has an issue with Idina Menzel. She’s the original

      this ‘vocal coach’ is just a brendon fangirl and acts like everything is about him.
