The funky new designs really appeal to me - the look of the show overall is great. Emphasizing the spiritual/philosophical themes make it distinct from Beast Wars in ways that both hurt and help it. Storytelling-wise, there are some major missteps but it's still pretty interesting/entertaining overall.
The thing that always struck me rewatching this show as an adult, is the complexity of Depth Charge and Rampage's final battle. When I was a kid, I never understood why Rampage let go and stopped trying to stop Depth Charge from killing him. But the reason is...He won. Depth Charge was so consumed by hatred that he had become a monster himself, and in that sense Rampage had gotten what he wanted. So he just lets himself be destroyed, laughing maniacally. Stuff like that is why this show will always be a classic.
That fight scene is almost exactly like the 1990 Hong Kong Wuxia movie "The Swordsman", as Depthcharge's spinning lunge with his energon sword is a classic wuxia move.
I've always had a theory that the Vok were inserted by the writers to represent "Hasbro". For one thing, they're always screwing with the protagonists, their characterization varies depending on the season, they create the overpowered Tigerhawk only to barely do anything with him, and they're killed off with very little fanfare. To me, I feel like they were Mainframe's attempt to poke fun at Habsro's creative insanity when it came to this series.
Thanks! Glad I could come up with your new favorite theory. Honestly, I just thought it up on the fly while watching your video. Before this, I never made the connection that Vok was kind of like Hasbro, until I heard them uttered together in this video. I may have to expand the theory into something larger with an obligatory Reddit post. :D
That would have been awesome, Rattrap trying his best to reprogram Dinobot but ultimately he could never do so, And just accept the facts that his friend is gone for good, I WOULD OF LOVE IT 100% COMPLETELY!
as a kid I never saw anything wrong with Beast Machines, I was just happy it was a direct sequel to Beast Wars and I wanted to find out what happened to Cybertron and how everything went to hell when the Primals returned!!! can't wait for the Beast Machines review
These Reboot and Beast Wars retrospectives have been great. Both shows were a huge part of my childhood and still hold a special place in my heart today. Your enthusiasm for the shows really comes through in the amount of time, effort and research you've obviously put into these videos. More than just a fun walk down memory lane, I've also learned a bunch - and I thought I knew all there is to know about these shows. It feels like discovering these shows all over again. So thank you, from one fan to another!
You're very welcome :) These shows were my absolute obsession when I was a kid, and I don't think they get enough credit nowadays. It's been a total blast revisiting and learning even more about them through researching these videos!
@@BullSession Season 3 could had used some improvements in the writing and wasting characters like Tigerhawk and Dinobot 2. I wish Dinobot 2 was able to leave with the Maximals back to Cybertron. It could had made Beast Machines a little more improved. And if you don't think so, I have some fair arguments I can give.
I can promise u that Dinobot II and w/e story potential he brought with him wouldn't be anywhere near enough to salvage B.M. for those who don't already like the show. + i'm sure there's a # of reasons why he wasn't included. Also, I don't understand why u feel the need to tell Bull that S3 couldve used better writing and that it wasted characters, when he just spent this entire video talking about those things
@@benjaminfenn3700 Because it bugs me on how seasons 2 and 3 were too short. Their still good. But it always pissed me off when they would waste something. I am not trying to say these people were stupid or not knowing what they were doing. But I do feel something could had been done. I see this alot in movies and TV shows. To be fare, they could had been rushed. As for the Beast Machines, I could make a whole large presentation on how things would had been so different and so much more amazing if Dinobot was part of that cast on Cybertron. And I would like to see a remake of Beast Wars (DONE RIGHT) that is. I heard some rumor about but I am not sure if it is real or not.
Even if the episode where Ratrap upoaded Dinobots memories into Dinobot 2 happaned it would not explain the memories of Code of a Hero (which happened after the upload). The only real explanation would be that somehow the destruction of Rampage allowed the spark of the original Dinobot to take control of the body.
Rhinox was able to get Optimus Primal's spark out of the Matrix in season 2 due to the transwarp explosion. My headcanon is that Rampage's indestructible spark being destroyed (a somewhat unstoppable force hitting immovable object situation) created a similar hole to the Matrix that allowed Dinobot's spark to enter the body as Rampage's left.
True. I told myself that Megatron attacking early humans is just something Dinobot was afraid of in Bad Spark. So he's remembering his mental picture of it.
The second and third seasons of Beast Wars were known as "Beast Wars metals" in Japan, they even had a manga adaptation that expanded a bit more on the lore.
Cheetor Transmetal 2 managed to express all the animal aggression that we have never seen in the series (maybe who knows, inspiring a little Leobreaker and Optimus LinkUp)
In addition to Feral Scream, the arrival of Tiger Hawk and the conflict between him and Nemesis also gave me scenes that could excite me throughout my adolescence
Moral of the story Hasbro . . . Don't start production on what you want until you know it's the choice you want to make. If you just want Toy Commercials then "JUST DO THE COMMERCIALS" instead of dancing between business and creativity.
If I remember there was a theory going around that Dinobot 2 was essentially a more advanced drone (like those cyber Raptors) rather than a living transformer proper, which is why he doesn't seem to have much individuality but is also immune to the torture that Rampage suffers. He basically wasn't alive at all until Rampage kicked the bucket.
I think Dinobot 2 was the only transmetal 2 look that I liked out of the new cast. All the designs felt too busy and the asymmetrical for the sake of it concept is not something I cared much for. Why did Dinobot 2 work for me? I think the skeletal look probably fit well with the idea of a 'back from the dead' Dinobot.
It's funny how Airrazor and Tigertron had little impact in North America but how these minor sidelined characters actually forced the Japanese distributors of the show to explain LGBT relationships. You see in Japan Airrazor is Male due to them not wanting girls on their show for younger boys (Cooties I'm assuming) but by the end of the show there is no getting around that the two have a romantic relationship. In the west it's no big deal since it's a minor romance, but Since Airrazor is Male overseas...well you get the picture.
Interesting fact. I only remember how they changed some of the characters' gender in the North American dub of Sailor Moon (e.g. Zoisite to a female to avoid depiction of Zoisite and Kunzite in a homosexual relationship as in the Japanese version). So I do wonder why there was a bigger outrage with japanese Beast Wars compared to Sailor Moon. Edit: perhaps it has something to do with the characters being villains instead of heroes, after all they kinda pulled the same thing with Reboot, where more villainous characters like Hexadecimal and Mouse were OK to be very sexual)
@@leparraindufromage366 it was the audience . Sailor moon was for girls so that was okay. Transformers is for boys which makes it a bit more complicated
I remember being 4 and really resonating with Tigertron and Airazor's characters. I was a kid who hated conflict. It really goes to show the broad appeal of the show for a wide audience.
well said sir, never put much thought into then ir now, but full heartily agree, i had always felt that small scene from "Raw energon" to "its all over!" felt like a masterpiece, the kind of screenplay an acting youd only expect to see in a block buster movie.
You've said things succinctly well, Bull Session, and for that, you get a sub from me! Also, Dark Glass is canon in my opinion, it just happened offscreen, maybe between Go With The Flow (which I actually like, by the way) and Crossing the Rubicon. Addendum for 16:54: He is implied to be affected, *he just doesn't care and shrugs it off.*
Awesome review as always. Optimal Situation has always been my number one episode. The fact that two of my greatest heroes merged into a Munky-Trukk, allowing Primal have the power to easily defeat Megatron just blew my mind. The scenes where both Optimus see each other, when Optimal Optimus says "Transform and Roll Out!", when Optimus Primal said "In a word, Prime", and specially the discussion between Megatron and Optimus ("We'd have 4 million years to clean you off the walls") kept me and my brother jumping on our sofa while we were watching the episode.
Even as late as it comes, I love the Feral Scream episodes, and the way Cheetor's transformation is handled, being treated almost like a werewolf kinda thing. And the fact that it does solidify that Cheetor is growing up over the course of the series, something that will continue in Beast Machines. Honestly, I understand and accept that Beast Machines was not as good as Beast Wars, but I still enjoyed it, and I don't think it deserves the demonization people give it - sure, some characters' ended up a bit differently than people expected, but it wasn't exactly unjustified. All the huge character personality shifts are entirely defendable within the context of what's happening to them in the show.
I never had the time to watch Season 3. I'll have to check it out now that I've seen this! Also geeze! I leave for a little bit and come back to a bunch of vids! Its awesome!
I never got to see the toys even in commercials living in Poland at the time, even less actually think about themes/plot in how as effect of some toy company motives. You opened my eyes to so many thing my head hurts ;-)
Man! Another great review! I found your reboot series a couple weeks ago and powered through this whole retrospective series. What a blast! These shows came out when I was 10 and were my favorite shows. I really enjoyed how you put together the back story of the studio and companies involved. It gives a reason to go re-watch everything with this new perspective. Its obvious this is your passion and its great to see, keep it up!
Thanks for making this series, really got those nostalgia feels watching these. It also helps that you put a lot of research into the series. Quality videos! Thanks!
1.I do consider 'Dark Glass' cannon, makes me feel better. 2.I remember loving 'Beast Machines', looking back I think the fact it felt like it was a continue of the story and characters I was familiar with really made me feel connected to it, hope this might show to some why it was remembered fondly at least by my memory.
my theory is the shell program was a creation by Tarantulus to prevent protoforms from returning to Maximal origins. Dinobot wouldn't have it since he was Predacon "naturally" as natural as a robot can, and not tampered with. Blackarachnia is essentially still herself she just doesn't have random bouts of negativity. It always seemed that her desire to be Predacon was a tad unnatural as she doesn't really like ANY of them. Literally She can''t stand them. From Waspinator's annoyance and later crush, to Tarantulas's mind games, to Megatron's foolishness and ego, to Quickstrike's possessiveness (though not as possessive as Tarantulas) They drive her nuts.
That makes so much sense. BA is the first recipient of one of those programs, and Tarantulas clearly wanted to make a mate for himself, so of course he'd try to program in some inherent longing to remain on his side.. and then by the end he's not even really a predacon (or even alive) anymore, so whatever lingering hold is there is reduced to just clinging to the artificial program. Also I just now realized that Inferno is the only other guy to actually receive a shell program, despite Tarantulas having them at the ready every time a pod fell. It FELT like a bunch more got used, but the rest of the new preds just got pressed into service. And Inferno sure did end up loyal, although he's so scrambled it's hard to tell what the program contributed.
It's a little sad to be reminded what Canadian entertainment (and Entertainment in general, I suppose) was the last century compared to what we get now.
Didn't think I'd ever wish for a return to toy sale mandated cartoon production as opposed to Netflix style subscription based entertainment. Turns out having suits dictate how to run a show gets better results than tossing it over to someone who makes it his very own vanity project, gained via nepotism in the first place. Go figure.
What always confused me about cheetor is why he was younger than the literal protoform maximals? Were the protoforms designed to emerge as a certain age so they could work, or were they reincarnated sparks or what? I'm leaning towards the former though. As Cheetor was born in the normal way maximals are born whatever that is, it may have happened close to the Axalon incident.
@@janetplanet4595 I always wondered about that. As a cynical adult, I'd wadger the IRL answer is 'he's the kid appeal character'. I still don't know what the narrative answer would be.
Found your Reboot reviews, and growing up with several Mainframe series I LOVE your videos :-) got yourself a new subscriber Sir, please keep up the EXCELLENT work!!
Bully Sesh, I have had tons of fun watching this series. You did a great job capturing the greatest facets of this show's run. Preteen me found the Cheetor-Blackarachnia relationship weird...it was awkward to watch.
I assumed Megatron got the drive, off screen, during the two part Other Voices when he got control of the Vok's ship possibly during the downtime Primal was knocked out and Rattrap was making it back to base with Tarantulas. and knowing Megatron he probably kept it unused until he could figure out how to make it work, plus given that he was preparing for Cybertron to send someone during the events of Agenda it's not to hard to believe he prioritized dealing with THAT issue before figuring out how to make the transmetal driver work. Which, after the events of the Agenda and Optimal situation he finally had time to work on and experiment which lead to the cyber raptors and eventually to Dinobot 2
Another top notch review nailing everything I felt about the show when I too was part of the targeted demographic 😀 Liked and shared again! Looking forward to a Beast Machines review. That little tease of the drum n bass intro music has me hyped! I'm so remember Beast Machines making me feel very conflicted
Man I can never grasp how shows could be such slaves to toy lines. I never had any desires for toys outside of hot wheels or transformers which stopped way before beast wars started and I got my genesis and desire to draw.
It’s simple: the toy companies are the ones funding the shows. If they don’t sell toys, they don’t get paid. If they don’t get paid there’s no money for the show. Therefore the show has to do what the toy company thinks will sell toys.
@@magnusprime962 This and not to mention that toy companies were huge in the 90s. People don't really talk about just how much of an influence companies like Hasbro, Mattel, and others had on the market.
After watching Chris Mcfreely's, The Basics video on the Vok we now have a definitive origin for them. They have been retroactively made into the evolution of The Swarm from the G2 comics and had traveled back in time to help life forms evolve. another origin that was made separate for them was that they were the final stage of evolution for all life itself
I can't remember off hand but wiki said the vok is related something from the G1 comics and they now protect the timelines or something like that.sounds like a recon to me and you do know alot of the lines from the covenant of primus is actual lines from the bible
They were a non sentient villain called The Swarm in G2. They were devouring everything and Optimus sacrificed himself to it. Consuming him and The Matrix made The Swarm sentient and it became The Vok to atone for the damage it caused.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 They also brought Optimus back to life in a new body based on his G2 Hero toy. Prime's resurrection was, as he put it, "a parting gift".
no found memories for season3 as I either assume singapore has never got to air season3 on local channels, or I probably wasnt aware of the schedule.... but Beast machines on the other hand..... yeah, they did show it and I actually got confused at first not knowing I missed an entire season3 leading up to it lol. can't wait for the beast machines review.
I hear a lot of countries missed out on some of Beast Wars due to censorship issues which weren't a problem for Beast Machines since it's a lot less violent.
Almost has not had filler episodes, unlike the first season that is bigger than the second and this together. One small problem is that you did not see a new guy dominating the scene for a long time. In the following episode where Megatron becomes a Transmetal 2, Tiger Hawk appears. And in the next episode, Tiger Hawk is destroyed by Nemesis ...
On the one hand, we enjoyed the beautiful Megatron Transmetal 1 for a longer time (which in the end was the nicest of the three), on the other hand, was rushed like the whole season.
I feel you missed the whole story of Black A vs Dinobot. Dino changed his allegiance of his own accord, where as Black didnt. Black was afraid of losing who she was and is why she didnt want the shell removed. Like Dino she could have changed sides at anytime but once the shell was damaged and had to be removed she was reluctant because she know once remove she return to her default state, which as a Maximal but she didnt know if her personally would remain. She was reprogrammed to be a pred but didnt know if it was just her allegiance that was hacked or if her personality was also part of the shell too. That is why there is a vast difference in her story vs Dinobot. Dino choose his role. Black was signed one via hack and didnt know how deep it was.
I can still remember watching season 3 on TV when it first premiered. Beast Wars was still in syndication at the time, but by the end of the season 3, the TV rights were purchased by Fox Kids. Beast Wars reruns then aired exclusively on Fox Kids, and this is when the Beast Wars censorship took place. The planning and designs for Beast Machines had to be cleared by Fox's BSNP, which steered the plot and fighting quite a bit (such as Tankor having a physical missile launcher count on his internal displays, but being unable to launch them). Despite the odd character personality changes and broadcast standards, Beast Machines did get strangely dark at times. I watched it enthusiastically as a kid, but did feel kinda cheated by the ending, and how it affected Transformers mythos. Rewatching it as an adult on the DVD releases, I felt it held up a little bit better than I remembered, but I still cursed it as being an inferior follow up to Beast Wars, especially since it so drastically altered the cast we came to know and love. Had the concept of Beast Machines been done with an entirely new cast, perhaps we'd view it differently.
Its true. The show has its high points for sure, but its really unpalatable what they did to all the characters. The censorship is also definitely a point of discussion.
'Hasbro as some kinda invisible boogie man',... You mean they aren't? Beast Wars as a whole is one of those Classic 90s shows we don't get anymore. It took it's audience seriously and took risks(... Shame we never did get Dark Glass), Oh beast machines.... Beast Machines, Beast Machines, Beast Machines.
i mean, on one hand we wouldn't even have beast wars if it weren't for hasbro. But on the other hand they messed it up a lot by not having their shit together and having way too much narrative control.
I don't know about nowadays, but back then I totally get that they were nervous about a repeat of G1 happening where after around three seasons people lost interest. They wanted to move the brand along to different things. It just so happens that the thing they moved onto was Beast Machines, which is... a lot to talk about.
Good show! I look forward to the Beast Machines episode, I've always been a big fan of Beast Machines. Still like to use the term "Technorganic" in some of my own creative writing when applicable :P
ughhh, Beast Machines was so terrible. Hated the redesigns and the toys. Thanks for all these videos though, it is great to learn what was going on behind the scenes and the (really dumb) reason why they never had more Beast Wars, even as a kid I was super confused why there wasn't a proper ending to that final episode it just felt like it was supposed to go on.
I don't really think they could have continued Beast Wars anyway, it had sort of run its course and things had progressed so far, where would you take it from there? What they should have done is indeed gone back to cybertron, but then _made a new show that was good._ not a direct continuation of beast wars with the same characters, but new events developing on the planet.. and then periodically go back and see how the old maximals are doing, visit megatron in prison, etc. but keep the same good writers who had taken us this far
@@KairuHakubithere are so many issues with bm but probably my biggest gripe is it didn’t even need to exist Season 3’s ending was a perfect wrap up to the show and would have been fine if it was just left as is But no hasbro had to Finish off their cash cow And successfully killed it
@@michelcoolguy1701 it's the same old story. you manage to create something amazing and really popular that blows past the standards.. maybe it's 90s WB animation, maybe 80s-90s Disney animation, whatever... then you go "hey you know what, let's completely ruin this. i'm tired of money"
I love how the upgrades came later as each became that much more meaningful! All felt like it shared a true purpose beyond just toys..kinda sorta... edit: He finds that device off screen!? "He even kept a picture of BlackArachnia in his bedroom, which is a little weird." To be fair, who didn't keep a picture of BlackArachnia in their bedroom?
Too you point on blackarachnias shell program. Dinobot was a predacon to start and she wasn't. Tarantulas installed the shell program converting her, and there is a scene in a episode where Tarantulus offers to go into Dinobot to see if he is honest with his allegiance . Megatron simply responded " I don't think Dinobot would approve of you loose in his circuits. Nor would I." The difference is one was converted and the other was an original.
BM to me was like Spider-Man Unlimited was to Spider-Man. I just couldn’t get into either. So I just stopped after a couple episodes. Guess the charm from their predecessor didn’t carry into it. Dinobot was my fave. To this day I think about that Dinobot 2 toy I saw at TRU and wanted so bad, but who knows? Maybe I can get it now online?
A very fun video yay! I actually finished watching Beast Wars for the first time ever near the end of this summer. I really loved the show! It's hard to say if it's my favorite Transformers show cause Transformers Animated exists and I love that as well. btw where did u get that HD footage of Beast Wars? I'd like to get them so i can make uhhh memes lol
I'm glad you liked the show! It's amazing how something like this that's been off the air for 20 years still manages to gain new fans. This footage is ripped from an Australian DVD release of the series made by a company called Madman. The sets are expensive, and hard to find now, but the DVD set put by SHOUT! Factory in North America is perfectly good quality also.
Great video. Yeah, not as strong as season 2 but still good. I remember the series fondly, though quirks might big me a little more these days if I rewatched it more recently.
I've been waiting to see this for a while, and I checked my subscriptions and there it lay, JUST UPLOADED! Glad to see the series wrapped up for now. Any ideas what you're up to next?
Don't know if it was meant to be a tease, if not, may I suggest doing reviews on the 90s Xmen and Spiderman series? Once you're done with the Mainframe series that is! Keep up the good work!
Shame to hear how much Hasbro messed with the show towards the end. Beast Wars Season 3 should’ve been longer or gotten a season 4. Not only to flesh things out with a better set up finale but also to allow it to reach 65 episode goal needed to be syndicated on most networks.
Beast Wars is my fraovite Transformers series, the characters are great, the story is interesting and yeah the animation is a bit dated, but still not that bad. i saw a vid about Broken Glass... its a shame we never got to see it, would have helped make sense of the ending a bit more. this was an awesome series of vids you did. please keep up the great work.
Awesome review. Mainframe had an incredible run in their prime. It's sad that they never kept making incredible kids shows into the 2000s and beyond. I wonder what happened?
From what I understand, there were financial troubles. Don't know for sure though. Spider-Man was probably their last really good television show unless I'm forgetting something.
I think it had a lot to do with cost. Back in the 90s right up to the mid 00s, CG was infinitely more expensive than traditional forms of media due to the primitive nature of the medium. To an extent it still is, Star Wars The Clone Wars in particular had a budget of well over £1m per episode. Mainframe’s reputation for completely computer generated shows, alongside the sheer cost of ReBoot & Beast Wars, despite their runaway success, probably made funding them a risky venture. You could sink millions in & then the show might flop. It also has to do with changing media landscapes. Around the time after Beast Machines, more mature shows like Beast Wars or ReBoot just didn’t have the same sort of cultural impact. To an extent I believe Beast Machines to be responsible for that. The last vestige of that era I remember is Code Lyoko, which was hurriedly wrapped up in its 4th season. Since the mid to late 00s, children’s media has predominantly been centred around goofy, completely lighthearted shows that don’t colour too much outside the lines. Even praised shows like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls etc feel much more restricted in what they can show than Beast Wars. Were Beast Wars to launch today, with updated visuals & sound design, I doubt it would’ve been as successful as it was in the 90s.
they made a couple stinkers with really mundane subject matter as I recall. You can't go back to 'a radical human that does amazing stunts and fights crime with his athleticism' after freakin robot wars and the secret life of computer programs.
One thing that always bugged me was how outside his debut episode optimal optimus just gets super damaged or thrown out of the fight pretty much every episode
17:15: I can't see this in the comment section, but it's not inexplicable at either time. Dinobot's remains were used to create a frankenstein's monsteresque clone. The link affects dinobot's psychology, centreing his personality between 'malevolent psycho' to overly honourbound Ronin; he becomes the perfect soldier. When his shared spark is severed from Rampage his influence over Dinobot ii's personality is lifted. Dinobot's personality reasserts itself and he becomes rigidly idealistic again.
Wait wait wait...Cheetor had somewhat of a love triangle thing with Blackarachnia and Silverbolt? How do I not remember this....I do remember Cheetor getting on my nerves alot and Dinobot & Rattrap being my favorites. Up until Beast Machines where Cheetor was my favorite due to his unique and sleek design.
I recently saw the final episode of beast wars and when Rhinox smashes the ship into the Nemesis Dinobot 2 is right on Primal but in the next scene he’s across the room, how does that happen?
Bull Session Megatron throws Dinobot straight on top of him right before the crash so it seems more like something forced them to kill him off, how things should’ve gone if nothing changes before Rhinox crashes Megatron’s one man parade both would’ve been knocked in the exact same direction with Dinobot flying slightly longer not create a pulling force that only pulls Dinobot to far away from Primal so he could die, based on how it went Dinobot should’ve survived, it’s like they were told at the last minute to kill him off by Hasbro.
I wouldn't say Beast wars has had few references since, I'd argue most of the western TF sequals since have continued to use BW's templet for story and character development to heart. Animated for sure.
This is kind of an anticlimatic end for Beast Wars, but I'll still give it a shot when I get more time. Hey, think you might do a retrospective like this for anime? Like Sailor Moon?
Beast Machines. Hate it? Love it? Lemme know!
The funky new designs really appeal to me - the look of the show overall is great. Emphasizing the spiritual/philosophical themes make it distinct from Beast Wars in ways that both hurt and help it. Actually the spark torture does hurt Dinobot 2. It's just that Dinobot 2 enjoys the pain.
That's how I love yet also hate how he died: why must he be so satisfied with the end of it? Poor Depth Charge.
That fight scene is almost exactly like the 1990 Hong Kong Wuxia movie "The Swordsman", as Depthcharge's spinning lunge with his energon sword is a classic wuxia move.

Dinobot never had a shell program. He was truly a predacon. That's why he struggled with his loyalties so much.
Wow, that's true. I hadn't even thought of that... unless the backup he made was more like a cloud account that performs remote automatic updates haha
Don't worry about it, Beast Wars is a hot mess of a show anyways.
True. I told myself that Megatron attacking early humans is just something Dinobot was afraid of in Bad Spark. So he's remembering his mental picture of it.
The second and third seasons of Beast Wars were known as "Beast Wars metals" in Japan, they even had a manga adaptation that expanded a bit more on the lore.
the manga was basically a bizarre AU story. I would have loved a prequel to that manga
Also the intro in Japan was definitely something lol
What was the manga about?
Cheetor Transmetal 2 managed to express all the animal aggression that we have never seen in the series (maybe who knows, inspiring a little Leobreaker and Optimus LinkUp)
In addition to Feral Scream, the arrival of Tiger Hawk and the conflict between him and Nemesis also gave me scenes that could excite me throughout my adolescence
I wonder how the hypothetical season 4 would have gone... loved these retrospectives, watched all 3 rapidly, very enjoyable :).
Moral of the story Hasbro . . . Don't start production on what you want until you know it's the choice you want to make. If you just want Toy Commercials then "JUST DO THE COMMERCIALS" instead of dancing between business and creativity.
Leveler well they wanted money
what moral? They made buttloads of $$.
@@brandonvortex995Lickboot (Tom & Jerry): "We've got to have money" 😁😉.
They repeated that crap with the War games and Prime
@@robotx9285And Animated before that. Nothing ever changes…
Actually, they didn't KNOW Airazor was supposed to be female until it was too late.
@@mitchfletcher2386 How could they not have known though?
We gays gotta get our victories where we can.
I loved this show when I was a kid, thank you for these reviews
You're very welcome.
well said sir, never put much thought into then ir now, but full heartily agree, i had always felt that small scene from "Raw energon" to "its all over!" felt like a masterpiece, the kind of screenplay an acting youd only expect to see in a block buster movie.
When they brought the transmetal drive, I had so many questions for it XD
"At least it's not another cliffhanger" *Shows Megabyte* god damn it :l
Only with a unity between TRUKK and MUNKY can the Cybertronian species truly attain enlightenment.
Blackarachnia & Silverbolt's romance was one of my favorite elements to seasons 2 & 3. :)
Keeping with the period and style, could you do a retrospective on Disney's Gargoyles?
YES YES YES YES YES
Don't you mean. Yesssss
Oh....YESSSSSS.
Now that'd be an interesting undertaking! But you know you'd eventually have to tackle The Goliath Chronicles.
Heh, wish granted.
You've totally gotta watch it! Hope you enjoyed the videos :)
@@BullSession I have been! Thanks so much for so much content!
I never got to see the toys even in commercials living in Poland at the time, even less actually think about themes/plot in how as effect of some toy company motives. You opened my eyes to so many thing my head hurts ;-)
Yup, the power toy sales had over a lot of these shows was nuts
Are you sure? I saw some Beast Wars toys at the monthly fleamarket at Lublin's oldtown this year. I'm sure you could buy them at Toysrus atleast.
Wish season 3 was just a smidge longer. Then we could've gotten a few new characters like Ramulus & Spittor.
Thanks for making this series, really got those nostalgia feels watching these. It also helps that you put a lot of research into the series. Quality videos! Thanks!
You're very welcome!
IT IZ CANON WHY CANT YOU NORMIES GIT IT RAIT
Legit insightful! Learned a lot about my favorite childhood series from this video review.
my theory is the shell program was a creation by Tarantulus to prevent protoforms from returning to Maximal origins.
Dinobot didn't have a shell program, he wasn't originally a Maximal protoform.
It's a little sad to be reminded what Canadian entertainment (and Entertainment in general, I suppose) was the last century compared to what we get now.
*cough* ReBoot *cough* Guardian Code *cough*
Didn't think I'd ever wish for a return to toy sale mandated cartoon production as opposed to Netflix style subscription based entertainment. Turns out having suits dictate how to run a show gets better results than tossing it over to someone who makes it his very own vanity project, gained via nepotism in the first place. Go figure.
"It ain't a love triangle. It's a love line segment along with one very ambitious point."
--Kitty, _No Evil_

It is definitely very awkward to watch, yes hahaha
The comedic relief cooks this season in a big way
I'm happy this was in my suggestion feed to subscribe too a while back, I've been waiting for this uploading, yeeees
Yeeeeessss!
I subbed because of the beast war and reboot videos. Well done sir.
That intro music from Beast Machines is so rad. I've had it on my ipod for like 10
6:58 to quote Pan Pizza "He didn't pull that out of his pocket, he pulled that out of his ass."
In addition to Silverbolt, Depthcharge was another one that tempted me to abandon my loyalty to Rattrap ...
I think tigerhawks limited appearance worked well for the more mystic feel of the character
I love beast wars it was so awesome and such a great show in my opinion
Hell yea, one of the greats. That's why I had to make all these videos about it!
Bull Session indeed
@@zeroattentiongaming820 BINGO!
Dino changed
his allegiance of his own accord, where as Black didnt. Black was afraid
of losing who she was and is why she didnt want the shell removed.
Like Dino she could have changed sides at anytime but once the shell was
damaged and had to be removed she was reluctant because she know once
remove she return to her default state, which as a Maximal but she didnt
know if her personally would remain. She was reprogrammed to be a pred
but didnt know if it was just her allegiance that was hacked or if her
personality was also part of the shell too. That is why there is a vast
difference in her story vs Dinobot. Dino choose his role. Black was
signed one via hack and didnt know how deep it was.
loved this series on beast wars by the way man! i think itd be cool to see you do a video on beast machines also :)
It's happening!
Damn just realised this dude hasn't uploaded in years and I'm only just watching these now! Hope you return sometime. You're videos are great.
Watched this with previous 2, thank you just relived my childhood
Bull Session you have my sympathy sir.

I really love Beast Wars and its legacy
OH HELL YES. Been waiting to see this pop up in my notifications.
ughhh, Beast Machines was so terrible.
@@KairuHakubithere are so many issues with bm but probably my biggest gripe is it didn’t even need to exist

To be fair, who didn't keep a picture of BlackArachnia in their bedroom?
Honestly
I think that BA is overrated tbh.
I never thought of it before but Cheetor's and Silverbolt's rivaling actually extends through to Beast Machines.

Shame to hear how much Hasbro messed with the show towards the end. Beast Wars Season 3 should’ve been longer or gotten a season 4. Not only to flesh things out with a better set up finale but also to allow it to reach 65 episode goal needed to be syndicated on most networks.
Hasbro does love to intervene. Look at every show animated.
Yes I do know about R.I.D 2015
Beast Wars is my fraovite Transformers series, the characters are great, the story is interesting and yeah the animation is a bit dated, but still not that bad.

Thank you! The chapter on Beast Wars may be done, but we're not finished with Mainframe yet.
Bull Session I look forward to seeing more
Awesome review.
Bull Session Are you considering looking at some of their later, less successful shows, like Max Steel and Action man in the future?
they made a couple stinkers with really mundane subject matter as I recall. You can't go back to 'a radical human that does amazing stunts and fights crime with his athleticism' after freakin robot wars and the secret life of computer programs.
Yeah they did, Megatron found the driver at a Used car dealership or I might be confusing it this the Transformer's live action movie. Haha
I too didn't know there was a whole love triangle plot with the three but yeah Cheetor gets a whole new motive and design in beast machines
6:55 I thought that was chris from Sonic X 2003 - 2005
In Belgium we went from Season 2 Beast Wars to Beast Machines. You can imagine my confusion at the time..
that would be very confusing
@@BullSession not sure why that happend either. I can remember some season 3 toys in shops but never saw Beast Machine toys in Belgium..
I recently saw the final episode of beast wars and when Rhinox smashes the ship into the Nemesis Dinobot 2 is right on Primal but in the next scene he’s across the room, how does that happen?
Probably an animation error. They happen from time to time.
I think its probably only a matter of time before I get to anime
