is the cutoff good on the factory projectors with aftermarket HIDs? I've tried googling it but haven't found any wall shots or any hid pics with the factory projectors. Also, how did you tune it? Did you just add spacers to the lense?.
Without modding, the cutoff is excellent but blurry, like all factory cars. This is one of the few halogen headlights that I highly recommend a quality HID conversion. Look into getting XenonDepot HIDs, from my testing they're the absolute best. You have to split the headlight open and space the lens forward. It's a factory clear lens thankfully. I don't remember the amount but it's quite a bit: I used jewelry wire in a certain gauge to make a circle and I can look up the gauge for you if you'd like.
@@Haloruler64 thanks for the reply, I have a buddy that wanted something better than halogen and wanted me to give him some advice on what type of bulb was better. that's why I did some research, my brother put HIDs in his 02 miata halogen projectors and had a lot of glare, and not much of an improvement. currently working on my dads truck 2nd retrofit with some mini D2S 4.0 and Phillip's bulbs. hopefully they will end up as bright and clean as my 02 S2000 headlights, which are ausome with the Osram CBIs.
Nice! Yeah in the MR2 Spyder the cutoff is excellent and the output is really good. Miata projectors are quite bad. My friend who had FX-R 3.0s said the halogen projectors with HIDs are just as good. Here's a pic if you're interested: i.imgur.com/3Ua9l1E.jpg Good luck with the retro! D2S 4.0 definitely can't match an S2K but it'll still be awesome. S2Ks are just king.
They are low beam only. Installing a xenon system is pretty easy but not cheap. Any of those sub-$60 kits are trash, and most expensive kits are trash. Gotta buy high end stuff to have decent output. And generally, HIDs in halogen housings are frowned upon. But the 03+ MR2 projectors handle HIDs quite well.
