Noam Chomsky came to prominence in the 1950s for his work in linguistics and the philosophy of language. But in the 1960s he became a vocal opponent of the US war in Vietnam, and he's been one of the leading critics of US foreign policy ever since.
In London to deliver the Edward W Said Lecture on Middle Eastern Politics, Philip Dodd meets Chomsky for an extended conversation on American individualism, the role of reason, and a life spent holding authority to account.

Chomsky is surprisingly candid. And yes, the interviewer is typical of the British establishment arrogant and overly impressed with himself.

I'm always impressed by how patient Chomsky is with these kind of idiotic interviewers.
He always manages to make his points despite them.

He is astoundingly well oriented. I would love to have his overview

If any interviewer were even as remotely intelligent as Chomsky that interviewer would not have become an interviewer or journalist in the first place. It's amusing to watch Jeremy Paxman interviewing Chomsky; he's lightyears ahead of Paxman intellectually of course, and Paxo knows it and is clearly intimidated.

I was just getting ready to post about him challenging Chomsky. Not seriously competitively, but more in the sense of making him defend his positions; on China's laborers for example.

Must Faurisson be tiresomely brought up by ignorant mainstream interviewers every time Chomsky is interviewed?

The interview sounds like it was recorded on a cheap tape player with a big lump of fluff on the heads. A very nonprofessional job all round.

That or his "support for Pol Pot," yes. :)

Possibly, but I reckon he's just not half as smart as he thinks he is or understands who he is talking to.
