I grew up at this tract until it closed. My dad Earnie Oldham won a bunch of races here. In 72’ he was driving the #39. In 73’ and 74’ he drove the #7.
Awesome videos of West Capitol Raceway as a kid watching The World of Outlaws the night I was there Nick racino beat the World of Outlaws in his super modified
Let me just say that this is a perfect example of what You Tube should be. Sharing movies and videos that so many people would never have seen and a nostalgic trip back for others. I grew up in a sprint car family. My dad, Chuck Hulse, a 4 time Indy 500 starter and CRA sprint car champion driving mostly in So Cal (Ascot) but did have one particularly interesting night at West Capital in 1959. Leading the feature with 3 laps to go he tangled with some lapped traffic and lost the left front tire and wheel. He managed to hold on to 2nd place on 3 wheels. We moved to the Placerville area in 1968 and I was lucky enough to see many races at this track in the late 60's. Thanks again for your efforts making this "gem" available for the world to see.
You are very welcome Victor. I was lucky enough to find a open reel video player at a high school and then transfer the tape to VHS. Glad you liked it.
