I do recommend you watch The Family That Preys! I personally consider it Tyler Perry's best work. Great film, stellar cast with Kathy Bates, Alfred Woodard, Taraji P Henson, Sanaa Lathan. Great watch! Not traumatic lmao!

The trauma/drama theme is also very common in Tyler Perry's shows. My parents started watching sistas a few months ago, and every time I walk in on them watching it, there's some sort of issue going on with the characters, and it's the same recycled plot happening over and over again. But now, it's worse because some of his shows go on for several seasons, so the same ppl are doing the same nonsense in different seasons. I agree with ur take that Tyler Perry is colorist, and that's reflected heavily in his work. I think the Black community gives him too much praise simply because he's Black and he makes movies for Black ppl. Just cuz that's true, doesnt mean hes actually a good writer. I wish we would give our attention to other Black writers, instead of borderline worshipping this man cuz thats what we're used to.
