Thanks for including the equipment in the decription. And damn, they really weren't kidding when they say Arts trump everything else in the game...

Somewhat, yes.
However, Randy not dealing any damage with his S-craft, reveals that Randy isn't geared with STR enchanting Master Quartz, and was not buffed at all.
Also, the magic damage is far higher, because Arios had a ADF debuff of 50% in place. If such a debuff was there for DEF, physical attacks would work well enough.
