Be great to see some automotive size budgets funneled into BeamNG. The game is already amazing but some final polishing will make it the best sim on the market, as they say it takes 90% of the time (and money) to do the last 10%.
Yeah, I agree with this. The developers have tried to make the game realistic as possible without hindering performance too much. It's still very impressive how close it gets to crash testing though.
The problem is not only with accuracy but also with the fact that the simulation is based on already existing data so you can't really crash test a vehicle that hasn't been tested already
Generating Jbeam data with AI would certainly be interesting but so far there is no AI advanced enough to be able to analyze and understand Jbeam with comparison to real world data
There could be in the future, maybe not for Jbeam specifically. But this is kinda along the lines of what the flex crash project is trying to achieve at the moment. "IMC team will leverage BeamNG.tech’s ability to procedurally create content for automatically generating driving simulations that closely match the reference crash scenarios extracted from existing sources (such as CARE, GIDAS, STRADA, ZEDATU, CIREN, and MVCCS). Moreover, thanks to its soft-body simulation, BeamNG.tech will be able to accurately model the physics of the crashes, including the damage to the vehicles, thus providing a reliable way to assess crash criticality." I am very curious as to the exact processes they are using to do this, with the advancement of AI recently I wouldn't be surprised if that was going to be their next focus, whether in BeamNG or not.
I honestly dont know how any of you new people do this, I've been trying to upload videos but nobody likes no commentary videos so I just private them + I think I'm a bit too young to do youtube and I'm about to be in 10th grade 💀
i was looking forward for somebody to make such a video. beamng has seen too many kids just crashing cars, and most people dont realize how sofisticated of a simulator it actually is. it would be nice to see more stuff loke this
I feel that beam is so realistic in its driving physics that after tens of hours of play and tuning, I have seen a markitable improvment in my driving in assetto corsa
I love the crash physics but the driving has always felt off. Like the cars either have no grip or no weight to them. And like, I know how to drive it’s not like I just don’t know what I’m doing. It’s just always felt more like a damage simulator than a driving simulator, which is fine.
The developers have done enough to get it to where we can play with it without hindering performance and I believe in the future they'd amp up simulation fidelity to its tyres. It's only a matter of time. What I don't find realistic in other Simulators is that without soft-body for every vehicle component the entire car is just rigid brick and completely dissimilar to reality. Only BeamNG seems to be on the right path with what it's engine can do. What most people like you don't understand is that if your physics engine doesn't simulate frame flex, tyre flex/deformation, or suspensions don't oscillate as they'd in real life then you're just moving bricks on hard surface. BeamNG already two decades ahead of the pack in that aspect.
I don't remember it ever being weird, It was worse, but it was never worse than the competition. Every single other game that ever existed has never been better than BeamNG at the same time in history.
Very cool to see someone make a video on the BeamNG platform outside of the more commercial 'Drive' version, you could say lol. I've peeped at what I could on what BeamNG has been doing outside of the game for a while now and it makes it pretty interesting to think about what the future holds.
as they said in some old Motortrend article they speculated that Beam's longterm goal was to sell their advanced crash simulation to various companies. I mean they already do for Audi i believe
Epic video brother, i'm playing and following BeamNG from some years now and didnt have a clue about this! Always thought they were selling the game cheap and that it had the room for being much more. Now is all explained to me!!!
Wow I can’t believe that a game where I play and crash cars into walls in slow motion for fun is being used for this I mean like it is truly insane how a game can not only be fun but save lives
In the last 3 years this game evolved so much. It always had great physics(Obviously), still the ONLY sim with the Hydraulic steering FFB settings. The biggest fault with it was the driving, really not of the best, actually pretty bad. But after the last updates since 2021, it is closer and closer to conquer it's goal. Driving still not as smooth and good as Asseto Corsa by example, but hell is it close.
Iirc Tesla trains the AI model in a similar 3D environment. Also Ange's Engine Simulator has been used in an EV to simulate a combustion engine with clutch, sound, torque output, etc. It's fascinating just where technology is going and how useful these "games" really are!
all of this stuff for autonomous driving yet the base game still can't get AI traffic right. Bravo BeamNG devs. Very proud of you lot. My everlasting disappointment on the devs' priorities aside, this video was very interesting and informative. Good job.
yo man thank you so much for the amazing video and yeah it shows how big a game like beamNG can be to us all love your work and i hope to see more and more in the near future
As cool as this tech is, people have to realize that software and hardware are not even night and day difference. Think more night and three spoons taped to a brick level of difference. I actually get to play around with test vehicles that have all of the fancy "safety" features you mentioned. It's rare that these features work, and often when they do work it makes the car less safe. Lane departure systems are a prime example. Frequently they just don't work on 99% of the roads along the route. Sometimes they will not activate until you are halfway out of the lane. If they can steer the car god help you in construction zones. The ones that steer the car are frequently overtuned and will either over correct and "pinball" down the lane or, in a concerning number of cases, aim at oncoming traffic. And sometimes the system does not deactivate with the turn signal. I have only seen a single one that actually works in the rain. Not saying these systems are a terrible danger to people... for the most part. But the companies that work on these vehicles could spend five minutes in a parking lot testing things before sending them into full production.
no, beam wont have real cars licences because of branding image, most car ompanies don't want their cars to be represented with such damage and thats why all driving sims do not have a good damage model, as far as i know they actually have it in their contracs

Eh, not so much. They make most of their money from .Tech, it's how they're able to keep the price of the game low without any paid DLC. The BeamNG team started from RoR modders and it's very much been a passion project. The devs absolutely love cars and everything automotive.
mate, you just made me switch from looking at beamng as a simulator for 'car go broom and crash', but now as simply, the best video game in the world.
It's the best video game in my eyes as well!
Only people who have never played it see it as a car go broom and crash sim
Me seeing it as a way to be a driver while being underage: ok so imma just do these license tests real quick

Yeah no, I would prefer the Devs stay independent.
@@RukaGoldheart they are independent, it's just that they now have different clients from us and a lot more money

I feel like beamNG is accurate but not accurate enough to replace traditional crash testing
Yeah, I agree with this. The developers have tried to make the game realistic as possible without hindering performance too much. It's still very impressive how close it gets to crash testing though.

.Tech is not made for the average consumer.
The real money comes from researchers using the tech version like Audi or other facilities. Drive is only a fraction of the income
