- A video showing most of the games on MAME that use a spinner controller. This includes 360 degree steering wheel games as well as Rotary joystick games. The steering wheel shown in some games is optional for the TuboTwist 2 but functions the same.

Yes, I just removed one of the buttons and stuck the spinner in. It fit perfectly. It's actually not a tankstick if you look closely. It is a discontinued product from X-gaming that is just a trackball and 3 buttons on each side.
The spinner is a TurboTwist II and the Flight Stick is a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X.

DarthMarino did you install the usb board along with the spinner? Also if so do you need to run the wires to the buttons? Thanks..love your videos of the trackball games and spinner games.
wow watchin this video makes me glad I have a Microsoft Sidewinder i almost never use it sits in a box all day under my table but now i know when i get a spinner that things gonna be lit!!!!!
I actually think I have one of those but it uses some old game controller port that modern PC's don't have.

Also, you can email Groovy Game Gear. They are obviously much more knowledgeable about their own product and how it could interface with other boards.
I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you trying to hook the Turbo Twist II up to one of the buttons on the board that comes with the Tankstick? This wouldn't work. You might be able to hook it up to one of the trackball axes but I'm not sure how well it would work. The encoder board for the Turbo Twist is included. It would just be one extra wire coming out of the back, which is how I have it.
I don't have the energy cylinder but kind of wish I bought it. It's not a huge deal but i think it would feel a little better with it. You don't need it with the wheel on. My wheel is 5" but maybe should have gotten the 7". I was concerned about space but there's plenty of room. Attaching is very easy. You just loosen the 2 hex bolts with the provided tool, remove the spinner and put the wheel on. The wheel doesn't even have to be tightened. The whole thing takes like 10 seconds to switch.
If you had the storage cilinder, the turbo twist wouldn't fit the x-arcade panel. Trust me, I have it.

I think I had pedals when I did the video. Nowadays I have a slightly better setup for 360 degree racing games using pedals and a shifter. I have a video called My Updated 360 Degree Wheel Setup that shows it though I got a smaller wheel than the one in the video. I play a little Buggy Boy in it.
Hi! i have some questions. i bought the turbotwist 2 spinner and im planning to put it on the x arcade trackball just like you did. do you have the energy storage cylinder? is it worth it? there are three different sizes for the wheel, 5 6 and 7. what's yours? how do you attach it? is it easy? thank you so much for your videos
Hello I have a spinner but i can´t seem to make it work in games except for akanoid that works by default as a mouse. Where do you activae it in other games? i went to "deep switch" menu and selected 360 wheel and still nothing...

Hey man, great setup. How exactly did you hook up the flightstick to the spinner? Was thinking about doing the same thing, but not sure I understand how.
It's not physically hooked up to the spinner. I just had it sitting on the desk next to it when I filmed this video.

oh wow..you got the stick controller popular on the original cabinet of Zaxxon and Tron, plus a spinner..wow..i guess you did the mod yourself?
The stick is a Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X. It's an analog flight stick, not an 8-way like Tron. I modded the X-arcade trackball controller to add the spinner in place of one of the buttons.
How did you install the PCB of the Turbotwist 2 in the X-Arcade Trackball? Screw it on the bottom? I ordered the same setup and am a noob when it comes to this stuff.
It's screwed to the an inside wall and I just ran the wire out of the back.

The hole is on the bottom panel that comes off. I just drilled it near the corner and made it the size of the wire.
The Turbo Twist 2 comes with its own USB encoder and plug. I installed this inside the X-Arcade. I then cut a small hole out of the bottom. There are now 2 wires coming out of the X-Arcade; one for the trackball and buttons and one for just the spinner.

@@orkrosso The one in this video is a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. Some of my other videos have Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
@@DarthMarino yes I understand, thanks... well these days I was looking on the internet for a quickshot and I also met logitech 3d pro... but it seems that all these joysticks are good for pc and playstation (through youtube reviews of those who tried them )... but we don't know if they are compatible (they work) also with other consoles... for example I have a 14k retrostation (which uses the android system) and also a pandora box dx (which I still don't know which system it uses today )... so now seeing your video I understand that you are using this thrustmaster joystick on a console and it caught my attention, but of course I don't know what console you are using here...of course I also see that it's a video from 9 years ago 🙂

For Arkanoid what settings did you use for speed and sensitivity on the spinner?
Look at my spinner sensitivity video. I don't change the speed setting.

That's a 5" wheel. I would have gone with the 7" if I bought it again. I was concerned about space for some reason and it wasn't an issue at all.

Roland Buck When you go to buy the Turbo Twist 2, you will see it as one of the options. I have the 5" wheel but you can get up to 7" which I would have preferred in hindsight. I've since attached a cheap, lightweight 11" plastic wheel to my existing wheel and I like the size much better.
What kind of Joystick do you use?
do i need 2 spinners for anything? or does the one alternate between players? I think I'm going to skip the trackball.
Some games like Super Off Road, etc use more than one spinner. Something like Arkanoid alternates.

Only for games that use a 360 degree steering wheel which are the ones you see featured in these videos. I have a video showing an update to my setup:

Just hooked up 2nd spinner as slave y axis. It moves in the opposite direction. i turn left and it goes right. did you have this problem?
I only have one hooked up. You can always reverse the dial analog in MAME. I would think on the Y Axis it would go up and down on the desktop.

i don't know why i thought you had 2. yes it does go up anddown but that hsouldn't matter..in mame as in arkanoid returns it should control both vaus left and right

How well can a regular joystick emulate a stick shift for racing games?
+Robert Weatherholt It works. Obviously not as well but that's normally what I use. For something like Crazy Taxi that only has 2 gears, it's perfect. I've tried both analog and normal 8-ways for games with 4 gears and both were perfectly functional.
I saw in one of Tom Tower's videos. When he was playing Pole Position on his custom arcade cabinet, He had a steering wheel, but no stick shift. Instead, he used one of the joysticks on his control panel to shift gears. I see that you use the buttons to switch gears on some games instead.
+Robert Weatherholt You can map the gears to anything you want. I know there are a few games in these videos like the Sprint games where I just quickly mapped the gears to buttons.
By the way, what emulator do you use to play Atari games that more often than not, use discrete logic instead of rom chips?

Dude! How you get 720 to work with the spinner?
Rakatawhat It didn't work on the older releases of MAME but at some point they added spinner support. Try getting the latest version.

@@jeromekleinklaus3543 Off the top of my head, my favorites are Tempest, Arkanoid (series), Cameltry, Puzz Loop 1&2, Tac/Scan, Major Havoc (need an older version of MAME) & Star Trek
