Saved? She bought a horse who was ridden into the auction ring. He was never intended to be sent onto the slaughter pipeline, he was intended to be sold to a private party.

I've been told horses are treated terribly by Amish owners. Apparently, they are treated like tools rather than animals.

@samj530 My hubby & I were just talking about the Amish & their animals. My hubby said the exact words you used "tools," I used "machines." Either way, they aren' seen as living, breathing animals with tender hearts. They practice strict religious rituals in one respect, but ignore what the Bible states about caring for the animals that a person owns. Usually they are at auction in bad shape with ribs & hips sticking out. Most Amish owners don't feed the horses enough for the work they require of them. I used to respect their conservative way of life until I found out how their animals are treated.

Because they are tools. The Amish use them to pull their carts they also use them for logging and farming. And here in California, we used horses to herd cattle because, like a dog, they are also a tool. The problems with human beings are that we put too much of our own romantic thoughts on animals and try to turn them into something they are not. I grew up in the country where we had to herd cattle, and we had dogs that had been specially bred to herd cattle. It doesn't mean that we didn't love our animals and didn't take care of them, and our dogs always slept in the house, but we did not turn them into something they weren't. My little 13 lb dog is sitting on my lap right now. It is a tool if someone comes near my house tonight that shouldn't be out there he's going to bark to alert me because that's his job

@E Heard I grew up in the country, and our horses were working animals. l. That puts the in the category of a tool. They were cared for got good food and vet care. There is nothing wrong with stating they worked and then could be seen as a tool. My mare used to put her head in my bedroom window every morning while I was in school. It was a wonderful alarm clock

Jafar is such a good name for him! Love both of his breeds and the Aladdin Movie!
I rescued a senior retired Racetrack standardbred gelding as my very first horse of my own as a teenager.
I’d had 5 years of riding lessons and working at the barn for my lessons, so I had excellent barn management and horse care skills.
My riding instructor and my Vet gave excellent references for my rescue application and he was the best boy ever!
He wasn’t around for more than 4.5/5 years because he was already 18 when I got him. He got old and developed a untreatable heart condition that resulted in my vet having to put him to sleep.
It was the hardest thing I’ve been thru…. I’d never stayed beside any animal, comforting them, and watching the life vanish forever from their eyes…. 😭😭😭
I just know he calmed down with me comforting him in his last moments knowing he was loved more than words can express. ❤
It’s different from any animal you can ever be blessed to have in your life. You don’t know until you have your own horse. ❤
