The last ever Cup race in Southern California until 1997. But Riverside was an interesting place, didn't know anything about it until a friend gave me a book about stock car racing and saw how it looked in the pics. Saw Linda Vaughan on the cover. But anyway, I first saw videos of this race but somehow they always seem to disappear after a few years. Rusty Wallace and Ricky Rudd won most of the road course races between 1987 and 1990. Always every other race or every two road course races. Either the Kodiak or Quaker State cars. Except by 1990, Rusty had Miller Genuine Draft on 27 and Ricky Rudd drove the 5 car that year. The kind of guys racing at the Glen or Riverside or Sears Point was phenomenal.
i was at the 1988 budweiser 400 in 1988 me and my daddy attended the final race dale earnhardt should had won but nascar messed up on the final yellow dale still finished 4th r,i,p, to the greatest road course ever by the way i m a texan now y all
I Like Riverside International Raceway In Riverside California From The 70s 80s And Early 90s NASCAR Winston Cup Series In My Opinion NASCAR History Road Course
It's the eternal struggle. Build racetrack, track gets renown, land value goes up, turds move in around track and bitch about said thing that made land valuable in the first place. I'll never understand it.
This happens all too often. Was sad when they closed Riverside..

Marcis qualifying into a single-digit starting position! Nice one, Dave!
I'm surprised no built a copycat layout of Riverside for NASCAR to race on to replace Riverside.
Riverside was my favorite road course.

I live up the hill from where the old Riverside International Raceway used to be
One of the rare Cup series starts for Rick Hendrick who I think raced in the 1987 Winston Western 500 at Riverside
