I've been driving for 4 years, nowhere near as long as some but long enough to understand that its not easy living on the road. Is it simpler? yes, it can be much, much simpler and more freeing to take a step back and really think about what your doing with life. Its not easy at times, but it can be done. The setup he has looks rather nice while also being efficient on space, although i sure hope that mattress is comfortable! Nothing makes a good nights sleep rough like a bad mattress. Is it less costly? In the long run, you'll very likely end up saving double the initial cost, as building something like this is always the most expensive part. Some people I've talked to have done this to save money, others have grown tired of this materialistic world and want to remove/distance themselves from it. Others have done it because its what they could afford or had no other choice. Yes, its true you need to find a bathroom or laundromat etc, but there are enough that unless your in a really rural place it should not be too hard. Had i done this before i got into driving, i might have reevaluated that choice. But, as 'hard' as it may seem, mostly due to modern kids being somewhat coddled in some ways and not so much in others, people like him are passing on knowledge that is of value should the same thing happen to one of us. Yes, there is a chance it might. Is it certain? No. Just my two cents after living on the road for the better part of 4 years.

Foresty, I'm watching this in a van in New Zealand right now. Diesel heater blasting...you inspired me to try this lifestyle man. I'm in a rental right now because I couldn't afford a rig like yours at this point, but I plan to at some point. I feel more free than I ever have in my life.
Look into buying one of these vans in New Zealand and converting it (slowly) like Foresty did. The first two are bigger inside than Foresty's one, and the rest are about the same. Toyota Alphard, Nissan Elgrand Mazda Biante, Honda Elysion You can get examples of all the above for under $10,000 Personally, I'm thinking about getting a Toyota Alphard.
I spent a year traveling from Vermont to Texas living in my Subaru outback. Your right never felt so free , really didnt matter if i turned right or left at stop sign as long as i kept heading west. No highways if possible. Slept at mostly Walmart showered and got exercise at planet fitness.
Trouble is, most of these guys living in their vans do like to get out and about during good weather and explore... in fact, a lot of them do this so they can travel and see places on the cheap. Now, if you really wanna find someone to send to Mars who can handle being in the same confines day in and day out, just ask around if anyone's got an adult son living in their basement. I knew this one kid I graduated with who was still in his mom's basement a decade later pissing in bottles. Dude would be FINNNNNEEEE in a 6 month journey to the red planet... just provide bagel bites and Elder Scrolls 6 when it comes out.

All kinds of weather including sailing by signs in Canada "Avalanche Warning" geez. This guy is living great and kudos to him very nice set up and well thought out. I spent a whole winter in Calgary in a Dodge Caravan with just warm clothes and a couple of sleeping bags and foam mattress . Lowest temperature was -33C. The dry air of the prairies make the sleeping bags more effective. I've done the same on the BC coast but the damp makes 5C feel like 0C and 0C feel like -20C. I don't like to overcomplicate minivan living with too much modification. I really enjoyed viewing your video. I love the idea of living out of a van. I retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 Active Duty years (1982 - 2002). At the time of my retirement, I owned a 1975 Chevrolet Cargo Van. So, I prepared my old van for a road trip, and hooked up my open trailer and loaded my 1999 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide and set out on a 30-day Decompression tour from the military. It was a 30-day period for me to revert back to civilian life. I had a lot of fun, met a lot of nice people and attended 2 Biker Fest Rallies, one located in Tulsa Oklahoma and the second one was located in Tunica Mississippi. I did not have near the nice set up you had, but I tell you what, I had a wonderful night at the Tulsa Mayfest Biker Party. I met a really pretty gal who was wanting to get a little drunk, so we both did just that. Later we ended up in my Chevy Van. Good night, good memories. I just love living free.
I have a mid-2000's Dodge Neon that doesn't seem to handle excessive heat (100°F +) very well. And every mechanic who's inspected it is stumped as to why. And guess where I live, now? Phoenix. God help me if I have to live out of that poor thing. Lol..
Expenses can make you anxious and unhappy. The fewer expenses you have the happier you are in general. Money looks a lot better coming in than it does going out.

thank you for showing all aspects, good and bad, of the van life. definitely made me reconsider the lifestyle after seeing thats its not all just road trips and freedom from conventions. hope you stay warm this winter.
If you are considering the van thing or even the RV thing, try it for a week first with a rental - its not for everyone and certainly isn't all rainbows and lollipops.
brown bird To be honest it’s no different than making kids think being in life long debt & the rat race is glamorous! Homeless is having nowhere to live; having a RV or camper van is not homeless. Just like Native Americans weren’t homeless in their teepees
I RV full time year round including winter. I was watching your video and have additional tips for you. 1. Solar Thermal Heating. If you put black curtains up in the cab, (remove the insulation you have instead using CLEAR plastic sheeting in the windows which you can remove when you need to drive) and hang the black curtains (preferably fleece) leaving a gap above and below. Warm air rises, so the warm air will go over the top gap and pull the cold air from below to be heated in the sun. This will warm up the cab. Same with the widows, if you put black felt or fabric on the aluminum insulation in the windows, it will warm up during the day. Freezers are well insulated, but you wouldn't want to live in them. So when you insulate everything including windows, you are essentially creating a freezer and 100% dependent on the heater. 2. Get damp rid or cat litter in socks and put it around the rv. Your breath, the hot tea you are drinking, etc generate moisture which will cause mold and moisture on the windows which will freeze and make it colder. 3. I hate sleeping bags. Your body is a natural furnace. The key is to place a plastic sheet below the bottom covers (above the mattress) and above the top covers (or aluminum insulation with some air flow). This will trap your body heat and works better than nylon. Keep fleece closest to your skin above and below you. Also your head. If you sleep with a tuque and add a fleece blanket over your head (leaving a gap for air) it will warm your head. Less clothing is better under the covers. No socks when sleeping(feet sweat then the sweat freezes between your tows and you may not be aware of it). This is how your body heat is regulated and dissipated. If you have hypothermia or your heat goes out. Your feet and your head are the most important. I use heating pads at my feet (the disposable ones with 18 hour pads my favorite) or a heated pizza stone to heat the foot of my bed and it's good for hours. At the head of the bed is the cover for your head. If you can simulate a fever by keeping your head warmer, that heat will radiate through the rest of your body to compensate for it (as long as you are not wearing sweaters, your body must be slightly cool). Your body temperature will naturally increase. By having the covers around you containing that heat and the plastic trapping the heat (flip the plastic over when wet with condensation) you will be hot and toasty no matter the outside temperature. The only thing is my nose has gotten frostbite (I have to remember to keep my nose covered). FYI, with this setup, (unless I am not well with a cold or flu) I have slept without heat for up to -25c. I have propane heat (Mr. Buddy heater) however not a fan of propane. So I may turn it on periodically and turn it off. Or rather to use other means. For more tips see my youtube videos.

HERE is The REAL MESSIAH, Who they REALLY Crucified for the sins of man
From the Dead Sea Scrolls Exodus 3 Scroll, "Yad He Vav He" is what Moses wrote
Paleo Hebrew Direct Translation
Yad "Hand"
He "Breath"
Vav "Nail"
He "Breath"
YaH's Name:
(Ya)d + (H)e, as YaH is what Moses called Him as well all throughout the Book of Isaiah and Psalms, "this is My Name for all generations" (Exodus 3)
YaH The Creator:
Yad He, (Hand Breath), as YaH's "Hand" Formed man from the dust of the Earth and His "Breath" made him a living being (Adam)
YaH's Sacrifice of Crucifixion:
Vav He (Nail Breath), the "Nail" through the "Hand", that whosoever shall call YaH Savior, His Breath brings forth life (Salvation)
How YaH arrives:
YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting (Exodus 33:7:11), NOT through childbirth (Isaiah 45:10)
Why they demanded YaH to be Crucified:
YaH was Crucified according to Hebrew law (Deuteronomy 21), to be Hung on an Almond Tree for BLASPHEMY, as the Messiah claimed He was YaH.
He was YaH
Isaiah 42:8
"I am YaH; that is my Name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.
Isaiah 43:11
I, I am YAH, and there is no other Savior but Me.
Isaiah 45:5
I am YaH, and there is NONE ELSE.

Umaxen 00 this isn’t survival, this is a man who has money simply choosing to live a minimalist lifestyle.
@@JohnDoe-yq5bd Hello? Voice Of Reason?
Thank you.
John Doe I agree however the title says “living” not surviving
For more tips see my youtube videos.

cienna lund 😂😂😂😂😂😂. I’m dead.
NOW IMAGINE HIM INSIDE A SPRINTER, he would make that literally a mansion
I agree. I did not expect such a nice set up in a small van.
Nice to know someone else was also living in there vehicle. I didn’t have a heater though, just warm sleeping bag and lived close to the mine where I worked and would get warm tea in the morning!)
This guy is so creative admire his survival skills. He's got this
Good on you for living your life as you see fit. Your coffee looked delish. Beautiful adventures for you. Peace and love
His clothes are clean 🧼
I dunno what this fellar does for work, but he seems way happier than I am.
Apparently people *support* him from making *donations* because at the end of the video, he *thanks* them for their *SUPPORT* donating to "Patreon"..........
That fancy van wasn't free. Easy $40K
You're comparing his "outsides" with your "insides". He's "on stage" when he makes these videos, so you have no idea what's really going on with him. Bad habit we ALL have is to compare other people's "outsides" with our "insides" and assume everyone is happier, etc., than we are.
Watching this feels warm and cozy!
By the way, I liked how he used his car tires as a freezer for icecream! LOL
Dude’s living in a van .. His editing is Point !
My thoughts exactly. And he's playing a game? I don't know anyone living in a vehicle that has it this nice at all.
DOWN BY THE RIVER !!!!!!!!!
Most incredible part was how he didn't eat the whole pint of ice cream.
Lol
He finished the ice cream for breakfast. Watch the last 30 seconds of the video. Breakfast of Champions!
lol
He's Canadian, not American.
Mike Allen , Since weed has been legalized they sell a lot of Ben and Jerry’s in Canada
The inspiration for Ben & Jerry's latest ice cream flavor: Rocky Roadkill.
Shithouse Shack Sherbet
"Fender Bender"
" I dont know how you lose control on a stright flat road" the best line I've ever heard. 🤣🤣💪
