They have 10 hectares which is 24.7 acres.
You couldmake gutters around the roof and guide the rainwater to a desired place, maybe the creek or some garden area to use for watering.
If heavy rain keeps dripping down the roof there could eventually be some unwanted erosion.
Same thoughts! Maybe one or two big tank(1000l) for water from the water from roof. In summer it could be very useful in case of drought where are only strong but small thunders with rain. That fast water has no chance to suck in to the ground and will only flow away... this could rly helps
I wouldn't collect water of metal roofing. It's heavy metal central.

I love how y’all treat your neighbors. It’s one of the reasons I like this channel so much, because they are so friendly to everyone they have worked with.
You REALLY need to make a biochar oven to burn the brambles and young mimosas. Open burning releases the carbon into the atmosphere, whereas biochar captures it and is a very valuable soil additive.
I was thinking too that all the wood burning goes against the eco message of this channel. Similarly - “Burning brambles so they don’t catch fire” my brain needs to make a few leaps to make sense of this 😅
@@dsl28 controlled burns are a real tool used to maintain and protect ecosystems. A series of small burns over time prevents a large fire in the future.
@@loganhonors4154 @Logan Honors I'm not saying that they shouldn't burn that stuff--THEY SHOULDN'T BE BURING IT IN AN OPEN PILE. Do you know what biochar is? They can very simply make an anaerobic burn chamber that will not burn the brambles down to ash but instead make a kind of carbon/charcoal out of it. This very porous carbon will hold carbon, will sequester the carbon in the soil, the tiny pours allow the solid to hold more water and create habitat for healthy solid life. It's a win for them, a win for the soil, a win for their neighbors, a win for every living being on the planet. Whereas doing open controlled burns like the did here only has one advantage--reducing forest fire risk. And while that is very very important, making biochar instead will also give that advantage, along with countless others.
@@chrischart2386 Those farmers should also be making BIOCHAR. And in fact the number of US farmers who are making biochar is growing every day because it's one of the most promising tools we have to avoid human-caused extinction on earth.
@@dsl28 Bramble is actually a huge fire risk. While the outside of a bramble bush is green and lush, the inside is actually quite dry and becomes a big fire risk in the Portuguese summers. While making biochar or composting them is obviously the ideal way, sometimes it's a bit time intensive compared to burning them.

When you burn stuff, you should make it into biochar! It's slightly more work, but not a ton - you basically just dig a pit, put stuff in and set it on fire, and then put out the fire at the right point to get biochar instead of ash. You can find instructions on youtube if you search 'Biochar pit method' or the like.
I thougt the same. There was good stuff for biocharcoal.
They could build a pit with wall for it and make video about it)

A trick that I learned for clearing root balls on small to medium sized trees: Cut the tree off at 5ft/1.5m, then use the leverage of the extended trunk to pull the tree over. You can use a chain fall to pull the trunk over, and the mechanical advantage of a used car tire or large wood block at the fulcrum (the root ball) to pull the root ball upwards. This works especially well when you have trees nearby, because you can use the base of an adjoining tree as the anchor for your chain fall.
I would be interested to see if this technique works on mimosa's as well as it does my local trees such as cedar and juniper.

The white ashes left from burning is excellent fertilizer, you should collect and use those for vegetable growing and other gardening stuff
Good work. My only concern would be in a high wind how the roof will behave. It’s like a big wing.
Underneath the roofing sheets are not obstructed, which allows wind to flow from top and bottom, so the lift created is very small and that’s bolted down real good!.
Im pretty sure they made sure it didnt act like that before building.

They will need to increase the length of beams. But the idea is nice. I have seen it on my outskirts - someone built a hangar from 3 stacked in column containers with a roof. Not sure if it was cheaper than building right out steel beams and metal sheets)
You can add more solar panels on that roof and gutters for rain water harvesting, good job.

Let my give an idea : Use the new roof to collect rain water. Is good to store water for the coming summer and keep the water to dig a trench when fall into the soil. Great job. Cheers
Maybe use some rope at the cornes to anker down the roof. If it gets windy the roof could act like a sail and it could rip away

- Protecting from the warm and fire risky Summer
- More electricity capacity as installing new solar pannels in the roofs
- If not static roofs, temporary ones that can be used as greenhouse?

He won't fly away but this metal sheets will. I have seen it many times. No wind -no problem but if you do, you need to prevent wind to blow belowe metal sheets.
Or a easy fix put some strong bolts on all 4 ends of the roof. Regular roof metal screws do not hold well in the storm. I know that for shure.

Very good! the roof turned out great 🤩Why don't you make a gutter system to concentrate the water that falls from the roof into a single pipe? instead of dripping all over the roof? That way you can even save that rainwater and use it in a water tank, in the showers, in a toilet flush or in the garden... I think it would be a useful idea. Here in Brazil we store this water in cisterns 🌱
One thing you should do is build a raised platform attached to the container to keep your storage off the ground where it’s damp even though you flattened the ground there’s still a chance for water to flow underneath the container a little I understand that you might not see this and that won’t break my heart so don’t worry if you see this too late

You definitely need to collect water from the roof as it will contribute to erosion around the container.

all those mimosa trees could be cut for logs to make dugout cabins for yourselves. dugout cabins would stay cooler in the summer without need for a/c
Have you looked at making charcoal and biochar from the mimosa trunks? Turn the problem into a solution, adding biochar to the soil improves the soil and it's moisture holding capacity and helps prevent tinder dry conditions. Ideally make in the cooler parts of the year.
Yes! Everyone who has material to burn should be making biochar.

Have you thought of using the roof for rain water catchment. You could use that water for irrigation around the base camp.

I work in the fabrication business and the only suggestion I could make after watching is if you're anticipating a lot of sanding work in the future, I would invest in an pnuematic orbital sander as it can go a long way when preparing metal for painting. Also, lubricating while countersinking makes the process much smoother.

Great build! I recommend installing rain gutters on the lower side of the roof to protect even better the surface below it. You could also collect that water, if needed.
Don’t you remember just cleaning rust off everything that you thought would remain dry?
Also, just looking at the mimosas and eucalyptus. You may wish to consider its value in coppicing. Maybe keeping a few in strategic areas where you may want firewood.
I've already watched this video once before and you've put in your roof the roof on top of the container well. The nice thing about putting a roof on top of the container. You can also slant it and collect water off of it. You could also take another container if you'll watch ambition strikes on RUclips. They built a system on a container that will tilt. And no matter what happens you can make a lot of power and their system is really really nice. They run their whole house system on it welder's plasma tables. You name it air conditioning systems you name it they've got to get system

We have a metal roof on our house here in Tennessee USA, and painted it a light grey color. That light color helps a great deal with ambient heat.

MAKE SURE TO OIL YOUR TAPS when making threads! the tool will last MUCH longer!! another great use of that used motor oil! just a few drops as you tap, keeps the threads sharp, and lets the cutting action work better

Safety - quick observation. The holes in the container you cut out to push the long steel work through. Make sure the corners are rounded off. If someone catches them by accident you could have a serious injury.
Respect asparagus, very clean mechanically executed work. A storm is mitigated enough by the surrounding trees, shouldn't be a problem for the roof. Your team works well too and everyone seems to be having fun.
It's so easy and exciting to imagine all the interesting uses this building can have over the years, and all the possibilities for it to grow alongside the community
