This was what, 11 years ago now? I remember watching this on TV when it aired, and it bringing me to tears. Eleven years later, I still keep coming back to this. And it still makes me cry. These two showed me how beautiful dancing could really be ❤
Brent Hanner I to this date feel that no one will ever come close to topping Melanie. You're so right... Its hard to watch the new seasons now because she was really "That Good". Nothing can compete with what Melanie did that season. She makes all other performances seem boring.
I remember seeing this episode for the first time when it aired and rewinding their dance over and over again, and calling all my family in to watch it with me and gushing about it, and everyone thought I was nuts lol. It's now 2017 and I still randomly think about this number and how it's one of the most beautiful things I'm glad to have been alive to see.
Her plié in fourth... I just want to cry. They're both such amazing technical dancers and I could watch this over and over and find another thing to be amazed about each time.
Lauren E That plie in fourth!! I think until I rewatched it a few times, because of the camera angle, I thought it was in second... WHAT A CHALLENGING MOVE. Breathtaking dance. My favorite ever on SYTYCD.
I have watched this video countless times, but it will never be enough. Every single time I watch it I notice something new that just completely blows my mind. Such a beautiful piece beautifully choreographed and danced by two of the most amazing dancers I have ever seen. Love this.
I cannot keep myself from seeing this every once and a while because the dance was so beautiful. However I wish I could watch it for the first time again. That was the best moment for me. I watched this and tears just came to my eyes. I can't seem to get that back again because I have seen this so many times over. I will never forget the first time though. This dance will live thru out history I believe. Would love to know what they are up to. If anyone out there has anything to share that they know of where these two are now would be great. Thanks
I'm sorry for replying to a 3yo comment but I couldn't help myself :) The first time I watched it I also had the same reaction. I was speechless and tears were rolling for no reason. I knew I just witnessed sth exceptional the moment it ended. I cannot relive that magical moment now sadly. I have not had anything like that ever since
yessssss!!! the feelings and emotions u get when u first watch this is NOTHINNNNNG compared to reviewing it just for the fun of it... i remember when i watched this i felt such joy and encouraged to push thru my life chalenges at that really dark time in my life! i cried bcaz i felt SOOO inspired by this dance! this dance gave me strength to keep going bcaz life is short, and we shld enjoy the moments we have while it's there. SO fucken beautiful!!!.... 💖
There are 3 performances I witnessed on SYTYCD that absolutely blew me away with their artistry & brillance. They are in no particular order Melanie & Marko Turn To Stone, Cole & Lindsay Paso Doble and Anya & Chehon Agentine Tango. I revisit all 3 from time to time to remind me what a wonderful show we have in SYTYCD and also to show me what is possible through Dance. Simply Brilliant, Bravo.... .... sure wish SYTYCD would come back.
My favorite moment is when they are both still and Melanie's little hand movement in anticipation for the big part of the song. You can see the excitement in her eyes. It's at 1:16.
There's just something about this song, paired with Izzy Steven's Wedding scene from Grey's Anatomy with Turn to Stone playing in the background, and this poetic bodily masterpiece that just makes me want to happy cry. This song is about taking a chance on love before it's too late. Before we lose The One we love. Before we turn to stone. It's all the same and it's so beautiful. Life is beautiful.
Every single time I watch this I get chills and I get the biggest smile on my face. The chemistry that those two have together is amazing. Breathtaking and beautiful. I would love to watch Melanie and Marko dance together for hours and hours on end. So perfect.
Every time I come back to see this routine, I get so beyond reality... it's just wonderful, and when we remember it was their FIRST dance on the live shows, first dance together, and it was so terrific! Wow, moments like that are just refreshing, and dreams-maker, whatever that means... And Travis Wall may be a good dancer, but as a choreographer, he just kills it. Melanie, Marko and Travis did the most perfect partnership.
She was a winner from her audition and throughout the whole competition. As a dancer and actress, she won with not only her moves, but also the emotion she could portray that just really gets you.
Years later and this performance still pulls on my heart strings in such a great way. Amazing in every way. I hope they are both doing well in their craft.
travis is the choreographer of this peace as referenced, He started out as a contestant in season 2 8 seasons ago and has now transformed in to a brilliant, outstanding, geniuis of a choreographer, as this piece shows.
This piece make me feel grateful! This season of 'SYTYCD' gives e a lot of inspiration about dancing! My family are not really supportive when I tell them that I wanna dance like this! They're just not gonna let me taking the dance class BUT I never loose a hope so I stretch my legs everyday at home! Thank you for such an amazing talent that give a lot of people inspirations!
My partner of 35 years passed away last September. This is/was one of our favorite peaces. It hits me with bone crushing force. What shines through after all the joy and pain is that we have so little time, we must live big and with all our soul and passion and might before we turn to stone. Helen Keller said "Life is a bold adventure or nothing at all..." When I hear this song I want to know that I've lived a heroic life, and spent every drop of living on passionate self expression.
I won't say that it hasn't been amazingly difficult. And, I'm so present to the grace, the gift, the blessing that our relationship was... is. I am so thankful. Thank you for your compassion and empathy. This is a beautiful world and these two dancers and amazing choreographer have brought beauty to the world.
watching wonderfully talented dancers like these two makes me wish even more that I could dance, even just a fraction of what they can. What they can do with their bodies is just amazing. It is more than just a dance.
I never really followed SYTYCD. I’d see a few of the auditions, but never watch a whole season. I decided to watch this season, and this piece of art hooked me. Beautiful. I pity those who don’t or can’t see the art in this or other dance.
As a dancer, there is nothing more that we aspire to be than what these two became in this moment. To become the art, not just portray the movement, that is what it means to be a brilliant dancer. Travis Wall is an amazing choreographer to have brought this out of these two so early in the show.
love these two from season 8 :') even though it's way passed season 8 these guys still give inspiration in dance and i'll never get tired of their dancing together
When I watch this dance I think about being young and about aging. The lyrics "before we turn to stone" reminding us to live our lives with zest, "like there's no tomorrow," for as long as we can.
Technically there are better and more graceful dancers out there but to me this is contemporary dance at it’s finest! I usually find contemporary dance overly sappy and cheesy but this is perfection.
I have been watching SYTYCD for years, and this is my favorite piece. I get chills and cry every time I watch it. I look forward to every new season, but I have yet to feel the emotions that performances from previous seasons have brought about. I understand that the show must move with the times and appeal to a broader audience. But the "STREET -VS- STAGE" just isn't appealing. Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman, and Mary Murphy are deeply missed. Bring them back, PLEASE.
I love them both so much. Imagine if they had been on season 9 instead where there is a male and female winner. I would have loved to see them both win.
Travis is such a genius, I love him as a dancer and I love him even more as a choreographer... Both Melanie and Marko are also brilliant, my favourites from season 8... I don't know how many times I've watched this performance, it's magic and It takes my breath away every time!
All of the things Mary mentions are true--perfect choreography, performance, true. But the song must be mentioned as well. Love Ingrid Michaelson and the emotion of this song carries the dance to heights that are just unbelievable. Ingrid is a big supporter of this show, too, and was very appreciative that they used her number.
Love is foolish because even if life together is a waking dream, life ends and we are parted. Yet, in this the wisest are lucky to be fools because life without love is a sentence to be served. I'm sorry for your loss and I admire the love you must have had for each other for you to be so grieved.

Watching in 2023 and miss watching Travis wall choreography!
It’s now 2020 and this dance STILL gives me chills, ugh so beautiful 😭❤️
2021 every now and then I think of this and need to see it again. And I cry every time.
When she looked into the light and the colors change
I always come back to this season performances.. this season was perfect in all aspects.. dancers, choreo, judges all
Hands down this is the most amazing season
I agree! Best season ever!
It really was the best season, ❤️🤞🏻
It is amazing!
12 years later and i still come back to watch it. And every time I do it feels like the very first one.
This routine is one of my guilty pleasures. It's still beautiful to me 11 years after I saw it the first time.
One of SYTYCD's greatest couples of all time
TheSeaDaughter correction, THE best couple ever
without a doubt in my mind... incredible.
It's 2015 and they're still my sytycd otp. They are truly amazing, no one can overcome them
+Melisa Mantilla I so agree with you, I see this performance and simply break down over its magnificence. I love them.
Melanie was kinda the end of this show for me. She was the winner from auditions to the end.
Brent Hanner I to this date feel that no one will ever come close to topping Melanie. You're so right... Its hard to watch the new seasons now because she was really "That Good". Nothing can compete with what Melanie did that season. She makes all other performances seem boring.
Its already 2017 now..time went fast.. feel just like last week i saw this dance
2022 and I'm still in love with this. I miss this show sooooo much. ❤
I have this saved in a playlist so I can revisit this masterpiece often.
The little coupe turn she does followed by the stop in arabesque. Incredible. One of my favorite routines ever.

I'm not crying. It just rains on my face every time I watch this.
a masterpiece.
I cried when I saw this routine on TV! 13 years late...it still makes me cry!!!
I have watched this video countless times, but it will never be enough. Every single time I watch it I notice something new that just completely blows my mind. Such a beautiful piece beautifully choreographed and danced by two of the most amazing dancers I have ever seen. Love this.

Yea, u can’t get the feeling back after first time. The first time was magical and touching
they are still up to this day my favorite

I know I heard that song in Grey's Anatomy 😍😍
Can we just appreciate the fact that this was there FIRST performance. Amazing
The best one that will ever be done!!
HappyinChrist omg... you are so right. sensational.
Every single time I watch this I get chills and I get the biggest smile on my face. The chemistry that those two have together is amazing. Breathtaking and beautiful. I would love to watch Melanie and Marko dance together for hours and hours on end. So perfect.

Still one of the best couples ever to appear on SYTYCD
They gave Melanie all the credit in this routine but honestly. Marko stood out. In this routine for me. Yet they didn't say. One word to him.
7 years later still my favorite of all time, love them!!! ♡♡♡♡
2024 i remember watching this and was crying and here i am still crying
this got an emmy, right? HOW COULD THIS NOT GET AN EMMY
I cried the first time I saw this routine, and I cried again tonight. Simply amazing!
im crying right now and im watching it over and over again
Years later and this performance still pulls on my heart strings in such a great way. Amazing in every way. I hope they are both doing well in their craft.
This never gets old to me. I really love this choreography.
travis is the choreographer of this peace as referenced, He started out as a contestant in season 2 8 seasons ago and has now transformed in to a brilliant, outstanding, geniuis of a choreographer, as this piece shows.
WHY did they wait another season to finally let a guy AND a girl win. Marko, you were robbed.
they prolly got that Idea because of this two, Best Dance couple ever on SYTYCD :)
And now I think they changed it back to only one winner. Stupid choice...
2022 and it’s performances like this I miss. Bring back my favorite judges and format please!
The most beautiful performance I've ever seen. :)
She is so amazing, I'm glad she won.
Still watching
Can’t believe their chemistry was cemented this deeply in week one
This piece make me feel grateful! This season of 'SYTYCD' gives e a lot of inspiration about dancing! My family are not really supportive when I tell them that I wanna dance like this! The little movements, like Melanie opening her hand are what make routines like this so amazing. This is simply beautiful.
This routine never ceases to make me cry. I honestly believe these two were made to dance with each other.
my all time favorite couple and one of my all time favorite choreographers. Still get chills after have re-watching it so many times.
There aren't many routines that get me emotional but every single time I watch this one, I cry. Absolutely enchanting.

it's 2016 and i still can't stop crying with this performance. beautiful.
Still coming back to this song and the choreograph after 10 years.
I get chills every time I watch this. Melanie is so beautiful, she puts her entire self into every dance she does, so, so, so, gorgeous
10 years after and still my one of my fave couple and dance routine
Her legs, the extensions! wow everything ! wow ! this will always be the best.
This wasn't even nominated for an Emmy! This work of art should win every award on the planet. Melanie and Marko are just perfect.
it was literally months before i could watch this without sobbing.
its one of the best dances they've ever done on this show
watching wonderfully talented dancers like these two makes me wish even more that I could dance, even just a fraction of what they can. What they can do with their bodies is just amazing. It is more than just a dance.
this is the routine that made me fall in love with SYTYCD. There's something about this number that made me tear. never failed to give me the chills.

Still beautiful even in 2022.

Seriously goosebumps. My favorite piece in the history of SYTYCD

Marko & Melanie are my favorite couple out of all of the seasons of SYTYCD.
I absolutely loved this. always brings tears to my eyes.
absolutely incredible
Oml Melanie Moore, Her jumps and lifts are amazing. Her partners as well just make everything seem so seam less.
Always gives me chills. Wow
This dance is the best in my memory..feel sad how time went fast
When I watch this dance I think about being young and about aging. The lyrics "before we turn to stone" reminding us to live our lives with zest, "like there's no tomorrow," for as long as we can.
such a beautiful piece! i cry every time i watch it!
I'll never forget about this.
It gets me everytime. One of the best ever.
Agreed. They were my favourite couple. The chemistry between them was perfect.
Melanie was truly outstanding from the beginning. Her dance lines are so beautiful. She looked like a real statue sometimes. Just gorgeous.
Everything about this was magic....
this is amazing beyond words. omg. incredible and magical.
May be the best choreography and performance of all time
Technically there are better and more graceful dancers out there but to me this is contemporary dance at it’s finest! I usually find contemporary dance overly sappy and cheesy but this is perfection.
One of the best pieces they ever did for sure.
My favorite DUO!!
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that your memories of your partner and this song are sweet ones.
How can Travis not have won an Emmy yet? I've seen the ones that have won and thoes are not near as good as what Travis creates!
I have been watching SYTYCD for years, and this is my favorite piece. I get chills and cry every time I watch it. I LOVE THEM so much chemistry its crazy! This season better be just as good, the new couples have big shoes to fill
I always loved this pair
Don't know why this made me tear up...
been so long but still one of my fave masterpiece
Travis is such a genius, I love him as a dancer and I love him even more as a choreographer... Both Melanie and Marko are also brilliant, my favourites from season 8... I don't know how many times I've watched this performance, it's magic and It takes my breath away every time!
There's something about Melanie's intake of breath at 1:15 that is absolutely stunning. She is quite simply a beautiful dancer
All of the things Mary mentions are true--perfect choreography, performance, true. But the song must be mentioned as well.
