I love Carmen. It was the first Opera I saw live,on stage. I was a kid and Carmen was played by a family friend. It brings back wonderful memoirs.
Actually got goosebumps from watching this.
This is my favorite Carmen performance I've seen. Perfect singers, stage design and costumes!
This makes me love the universe
I never stop watching this Bizet piece.
Piekna opera.i swietne wykonanie
I remember seeing this with my bff when I was about 8 or nine. It was truly one of the best operas i have ever seen.
I went to see this with my high school about 3 years ago!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! It was ABSOLUTELY magnificent!!!!
Just got back from London having seen opera 'Carmen'.
Brilliant! It was a Family Performance, lots of delighted children as well.
This definitely has some of my favorite music in it.
Yes, I am also passionate about opera, and I also love realistic productions. I grew up in Russia, but I live in the US, and by the way - I love Spain.

(1)Carmen is a novella by Prosper Mérimée, written and first published in 1845. It has been adapted into a number of dramatic works, including the famous opera by Georges Bizet.
I wish to see her (Anna Caterina) on stage! Her Carmen is the best! She lives not acts! And her beautiful beautiful beautiful voice!!!!
It was on Ovation TV not too long ago, quite awesome :) I loved it.
EXTRAORDINAIRE !
My Arts Teacher made me watch this! 😁
Antonacci and Kaufmann in this stunning Carmen is literally overkill! Both are incridible!!!! Bravi !
The superb Ana Caterina Antonacci! She is great!
A fantastic music!
(3)Carmen is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, on 3 March 1875, and at first was not particularly successful. Its initial run extended to 36 performances, before the conclusion of which Bizet died suddenly, and thus knew nothing of the opera's later celebrity.
ah, thank you.
It's hard to find this scene on youtube...
It`s the "Prelude". If you look "Carmen prelude", you`ll find it. Anyway it`s in every CD with the opera. Regards!
Hey hey, I've seen this! Great stuff and thanks for uploading it.
C'est le plus beau chanson j'ai vu. J'aime beaucoup!! OuO
Amazing!!!
Wonderful! Kisses from Brasil! Adri:)
this looks fantastic!! Now I REALLY wanna see it! >.
this is going to be our theme for our marching season in band this year.
i cant wait to see wat the Drill Team gets as new uniforms. we r trying to get them as the dresses in Carmen.
I love this preformance.
i get to see this in march! WOO HOO!!!
Operas are really a nice way to learn about the past, their reenactment and portrayal are so entertaining yet so educational.
Fantastic production for a cabaret. Very sexy and well sung. Very little to do with 19th century Andalucia.
Ah yes, and very entertaining. Wonderful for people who don't know and don't care about the difference between different Hispanic cultures.
But, if this brings people to the opera, welcome!!
Hey guys, does someone know the name of the film? I mean, can I watch it online? Can I get the DVD or something? :S
God! I wanna see this carmen! love her carmen....she is the best.
te amo mucho carme
I actually agree with you on wanting as much truth in the opera as possible. It's just that with today's productions, I am taking it relative to other contemporary productions.
Ah! Of course you know opera!! Yes, I also live in the States.
I love the best known Russian operas. I can't say the same to you. I haven't been in Russia. Some day I will go to the Bolshoi.
Off to see it on 28th in ROH.
Wow GREAT!!
i really want to see this opera.
I love this preformance.
I am in the middle of a oprea lesson do the main sing.
@Oenpilli They never say the Opera is Spanish; and the opera is set in "the sun-drenched and sultry world of 19th-century Spain", and it is full of 'Spanish heat' and 'Spanish dances', so nothing they said was wrong.
Brava Antonacci.....Riccardo da Opera di Roma
they should bring this show to nyc
Amanda eu vou comprar o dvd no site do Royal Opera House, faz o mesmo.
Meravigliosa!!!!!!
It's a whole lot better than many productions today. Yes, it's sexy, vulgar, the Carmen here isn't that of Merimee' novel, but really, it's just one interpretation, maybe not realistic, but it's interesting, looks good, and is well acted. In general, Carmen is a Frenchman view of Spain and gypsies, not a Spaniard's view. Also, opera isn't real life, we don't sing in real life. Plus, the director didn't move the opera to Las Vegas, there are no bees or giant mice on stage. Be happy about it.
thats the hottest carmen ever
the same stage, the same escenography, the same clothing... but now the same singers xD
I watched this on the cinema not long ago
Looks really good
This is the Royal Opera House Covent Garden production.
can you tell me the name of the 2nd song ? thank you :D
Carmen Overture
yep
Great staging.
@suzypuss You are absolutely right! Impossible to mistake Alvarez for Kaufmann! And yes, Kaufmann is By Far, the Top Tenor these days and for a long time to come! Wonderful singing and acting! He can do everything wonderfully. Here as DJose he shows, with Antonacci, what he is up to. Both in the Finale are real bombshells. We´ll talk more later - Friendly regards! Luiz
It`s prelude.
i came here because of Arthur (PBS Kids Cartoon) So this opera is real (in the episode there was a reference to the opera carmen and i liked it very much) Where do they play this?
Adorei, grata!
Eu gostaria de ve-lo inteiro!!
I believe i saw one of these performances... was it in Melbourne??
OK. I see that you watch other productions also. So, perhaps you like opera. Perhaps as much as me, even being from southern Spain, I was poisoned by opera and a lot less by flamenco.
It's very comforting to encounter somebody as much passionate about this art.
Keep on disagreeing and the passion.
(2)According to a letter Mérimée wrote to the Countess of Montijo,[1] Carmen was inspired by a story she told him on his visit to Spain in 1830. He said, "It was about that ruffian from Málaga who had killed his mistress, who consecrated herself exclusively to the public. [...] As I have been studying the Gypsies for some time, I have made my heroine a Gypsy."[2]
@meprew2: I think this carmen just walked out from its original story written by Mérimée.... The singer is Anna Caterina Antonacci.... Best ever Carmen!!!
(4)The opera, written in the genre of opéra comique with musical numbers separated by dialogue, tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery Gypsy, Carmen. José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which José kills her in a jealous rage.
Which production of Carmen is this? Would love to have it on DVD :)
I'm looking at doing a selection of opera songs for my A-Level recital next year - is there any that you would recommend as a solo performance? (I'm a girl, btw :) ahh..)
Jonas Kaufmann is smokin!
In this video, you will surely be able to catch a glimpse of the romantic life of the Spanish in the past.
I believe it's the Habanera

É uma delícia ouvir

Megan, I think I have a better idea how life was on those days in Sevilla because I am from and grew up there.
This production is a stereotype that looks good but has nothing to do with reality.
But, who cares, it's opera after all, and nobody gives a ... about it!
