    Nice overview; it's sad most of these small fuel efficient cars have disappeared from American roads. Gas prices are always going to fluctuate, I can't understand buying a huge SUV knowing eventually prices are going to go up. Not to mention how much more fun a small stick shift hatch is to drive and easy to park.

    My wife loves her Mirage. It’s actually her second one, reading in her 2017 model for a GREAT deal on a 2021. She averages 46-50 mpg, and it can haul an amazing amount of stuff. We enjoyed 85,000 trouble free miles on her first one. She plans to keep this one until it has a couple hundred thousand on it!

      @@luisvilla799 no problem. We just had an opportunity to buy a new one at a really great price, we happened to have to cash in hand to pay for it outright, and we had a very good offer on our old one. It was just a matter of having too good an opportunity to turn down!
      Her first Mirage was missing a few things that came standard on the ‘21 models: a back up camera, cruise control, a better stereo, automatic climate control, and several anti-collision sensors. Would we have bought a new Mirage just to get those things? No. It was a matter of timing. We got the ‘21 model for around $13k, a bit less than what we paid for our ‘17 model. We got twice the blue book trade in value when we sold the ‘17.
      BTW, a month later the ‘21 would have sold for $17,000+, if you could find one, as the price of gas skyrocketed and supply issues meant that no new cars were arriving! The person who bought our ‘17 was very happy to get it!

    I own a 2020 Mirage ES 5 speed in blue. And I am a patented automotive design engineer. While I agree that the mpg is fantastic, the cluster readout is optimistic. Multiply the mpg you are seeing on your digital display by 0.924 and your actual achieved mpg is much closer to that mathematical result. I have done GPS versus map, versus digital display calibrations. And while multiplying the digital readout times 0.924 is not exact, it is WAY closer than the digital readout alone. So your video's 58 mpg is realistically more like 53.5 mpg. Which remain FANTABULOUS.
    I also agree with your assessment about the automatic climate control. The manual climate control is quicker / easier / better (I have the automatic climate control as well and detest it). I agree that your yellow color is better in real life, especially on a sunny day. That yellow color may be the best color on any Mirage yet. That front end on the 2021 refresh looks fantastic. Your rear bumper refresh looks better than mine as well. And like you did, I replaced the wheel covers with ~$40 wheel covers from Summit Racing that look much better than the factory ES wheel covers. Interestingly, my touchscreen display in my 2020 looks better with more options than your 2021, your 2021 screen looks "dumbed down" to me (for lack of a better description). To me that is strange why Mitsubishi would have made that change.
    Mine as well came with no armrest. I thought I was going to be miserable without it, but I have found it's not so bad without it. Sooner or later I may add the armrest like you did. In any event, this vehicle was conceived, designed, and manufactured to be inexpensive. And it does that well. People let the 78 hp rating scare them. But in every day driving, 50 hp is probably about the limit of what people actually use. So unless this car is bought for drag racing ... 78 hp actually gets the job done nicely. Your husband has a chick that can and does drive a manual transmission! A lucky man indeed!

    • @gregnixon1296
      @gregnixon1296 Год назад

      An auto engineer told me that you need only 40hp to drive safely on the road. Your estimate of 50 is consistent with what I have been told.

Then last December I totaled my beloved green car and bought a new 2021 ES CVT Mirage in infrared for $18k total price! I took the best deal I could in a shit market but still I over payed by about $3k just because it was so hard to find a new Mirage in December of 2021. I had to drive 6 hours to get it and bring it back home. The chip crises screwed me! But it was still better than buying used, that market is outrageous right now. A five speed is a natural for a small economy car like that. It reminds me of the little Japanese cars that were so common when I first started driving in the late 1970s. They were awesome! I haven't had a manual car in many years, but I might look for one of these. Its reminding me more and more of 1979 the way things are going lately! As far as shifting in traffic, yeah, it can be a pain in stop and go traffic, but I had a Toyota Celica with a five speed when I was living in Sacramento, California. I don't remember it being really a problem in that city. I even drove it often in San Francisco with its hills!

    I drove it for 2 weeks and I weight about 150 pounds. This car is great as long as I did not have any passengers. 0-60 was about 12 seconds. Cruising at 75 was not a problem as long as I was the only occupant in the vehicle. Going up an incline requires some momentum before ascending. The noise level was high but this expected because the engine produces less than 100 HP. I could never figure out the temperature control feature. The forward looking visibility was great. A real basic car that is ideal for a solo occupant along with some groceries in the back.

    Totally agree with stick shift in traffic. I’ve had a few manual transmission cars. Out in the country, mountain roads, and open highway manual transmission is fantastic. In stop and go traffic it is a PITA. Don’t live near mountain roads, majority of my driving is in city, and my wife has physical disability that makes it impossible for her to drive a manual so all my vehicles are auto transmission for her. This Mirage is a 4 wheel version of a scooter; plenty of storage, great fuel economy, great for in town, ok for highway, and low purchase price new.

    Hyundai and Kia also have the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I like the Mirage and have been thinking about buying one for about 3 years now, but I'm not optimistic that Mitsubishi will still be around in the US in the future to honor their warranty. In 2012 I almost bought a new Suzuki, but just before I did I woke up one morning and found that Suzuki had suddenly stopped selling cars in the US. Isuzu went out the same way in 2008. It's hard for smaller manufacturers selling low priced cars with small profit margins to stay in business in North America.

I thought both rode well and were quiet at speed....hills did seem to cause both to lose momentum. very roomy up front and pretty good in back and the hatch and the sedan both had good trunk space with the seat up. I would buy either again.....sadly you can't get the stick with anything other than the base model.....and the manual also needs a taller drive ratio or another gear to get the rpm to 2000 rpm at 60 vs 3000 rpm at 60 as the CVT does.

    Totally agree the automatic climate control is stupid. The three knob design was brilliant and adopted by almost all the car manufacturers years back. Very intuitive and logical. Back 50 years ago I remember my HS friend, when learning to drive, said "The hardest thing about driving is learning to work the heater." He had a point since every car's heater controls were different. Why can't the designers leave some things alone? Two cars I have owned recently have the auto climate and I hate them both. Additionally they are unsafe since you spend more time with your eyes off the road finding the right button whereas you can easily feel the three knobs and know exactly where you are.

    • @swlancaster1964
