He could sell his channels to other people or he could keep them and upload like once every 3 months or so. It really depends how he wants it to play out. If I was him I'd still upload just once every couple of months.

When I worked at Panera for a summer in Raleigh Matt Pat came in a couple times with his son. I wasn't the biggest fan but recognized him and he was super nice and humble he even thanked me for watching his videos. I wish him the best in the future truly nice guy.
My teenage son got me into Mat Pat and you! He told me yesterday that Mat was leaving and I thought he was joking!! But as a parent, I completely get where Mat is coming from. I also stepped away from my career a few years ago to raise my kids and I will never, ever regret that. He’s doing an amazing thing for his family- good for him. His content is so amazing, and I’ve loved being able to watch it with my kids, so we can relate and bond. Same with your work, Charlie! So I am glad to hear you’ll be sticking around awhile longer.

I was raised on Game Theory, and I won’t lie I shed real tears at least twice when I watched MatPat’s video. I will miss Matt, though thankfully his channels will live on.
MatPat retiring hits so hard. He will be sorely missed but as a father myself I completely understand wanting to be there for family. I wish him all the luck in whatever he decides to do.
This man has worked tirelessly these last 13 years, hosting FIVE channels that all post WEEKLY. It's honestly insane how hard this man has worked, and I can't think of a single RUclipsr I'd be happier leaving in this fashion. No drama, no cancellation, just at the peak of it all, ready to take a step back.

Yeah it is sad to see him go I've been watching them since around 2014 during some tough and challenging times in my life and of course in 2016 when I found out I had cancer and had to go through chemotherapy their content along many others got me through some rough days and nights so I did cry a bit when I heard this announcement. But I wish him and Stephanie and his new son the very best and hope their next chapter is just as positive as this one was ❤

This. MatPat being compared to childhood role models of yesteryear is honestly such a nice feeling, but knowing that that's only being done as they step away is so filled with subtle pressure, it's astounding.
For the first 6 or 7 minutes of his goodbye video, I legit kept waiting for a punchline and figured he was just really good at acting because he used to be in theater. I found immense comfort in his Game Theorists and GTLive channels growing up so I can't say I'm surprised at how emotional this announcement made me. GT felt like a safe space for me to be a bit nerdy, to geek out over silly games and silly theories and have a blast doing so. It's truly the end of an era, and I suppose part of the reason I balled eyes out is because this made me realize how much time has passed, and how much I've grown up.
I could never imagine how difficult it is to watch your favorite youtubers grow up and the quit. I cried when CoryxKenshin even considered quitting a few years back y'all he wasn't just mentioning quitting, he wa literally planning on it. I do sound a bit weird by saying "he even mentioned quitting" but I was actually talking about how he said he was quitting at 10 mil and he was at 8 mil (He them gained 2 mil very quickly) It wasn't more of just mentioning quitting, he just was literally going to quit.

Charlie staying on RUclips longer than everyone else reminds me of when a guy decides to serve a full 20 years in the military as the rest of his unit gets out after 6 years.
Matpat practically raised me through a very dark period of my childhood. I used his GTLive streams to help me sleep, to distract me from pain, to help me laugh on a bad day, and to this day I use his videos to wind down after work or listen to to feel calm and happy while I drive. I’m going to miss him so so much. It really hurts to see him leave but I’m also really happy for him. I believe I’ve reached the age now where I’ve learnt (from him) how to make my own happiness, and for that I’m grateful. I wish him the absolute best and I’m so grateful I had such a good role model in my life for so many years.
Mat always struck me as genuine, and I have probably only watched a video of his every couple of months. His energy, empathy and humor will be missed. Also: It's not just the catchphrases that will live on, he also established a template for video formats and had a direct link to the RUclips execs so it always felt like he's "our guy" on the inside and you could always feel he would get our grievances with the platform across. Enjoy life Mat.
Since a lot of RUclipsrs I know have been slowing down or quitting recently, it feels somewhat comforting hearing another creator have fun and be excited for making content in 2024. I also have a lot of plans for the year content wise and I’m not stopping any time soon so it’s nice hearing another creator excited to create amongst all the goodbyes (nothing against those quitting. If they want to stop what they’re doing for any number of reasons they should do it).

First time I watched him was alllll the way back in 2013! Was in high school debate team and everyone in there knew him, and we talked about his videos, and kept arguing whether link really was dead or not in Majoras Mask. Then came FNAF, and then Undertale!. It's sad to see him go. He was a big part of growing up from high school to college. I hope he'll keep his word and pop back in every now and then😢

Yeah it is sad to see him go I've been watching them since around 2014 during some tough and challenging times in my life and of course in 2016 when I found out I had cancer and had to go through chemotherapy their content along many others got me through some rough days and nights so I did cry a bit when I heard this announcement. But I wish him and Stephanie and his new son the very best and hope their next chapter is just as positive as this one was ❤

You know, when i first joined yt the FIRST channel i watched long term was matpat he was my idle and seeing him just..walk away feels like i lost someone special 😭😭
Mat’s video genuinely made me cry a little. it’s crazy seeing my childhood dissipate one youtuber at a time.
This. MatPat being compared to childhood role models of yesteryear is honestly such a nice feeling, but knowing that that's only being done as they step away is so filled with subtle pressure, it's astounding.
For the first 6 or 7 minutes of his goodbye video, I legit kept waiting for a punchline and figured he was just really good at acting because he used to be in theater. I found immense comfort in his Game Theorists and GTLive channels growing up so I can't say I'm surprised at how emotional this announcement made me. GT felt like a safe space for me to be a bit nerdy, to geek out over silly games and silly theories and have a blast doing so. It's truly the end of an era, and I suppose part of the reason I balled eyes out is because this made me realize how much time has passed, and how much I've grown up.

Matpat practically raised me through a very dark period of my childhood. I used his GTLive streams to help me sleep, to distract me from pain, to help me laugh on a bad day, and to this day I use his videos to wind down after work or listen to to feel calm and happy while I drive. I’m going to miss him so so much. It really hurts to see him leave but I’m also really happy for him. I believe I’ve reached the age now where I’ve learnt (from him) how to make my own happiness, and for that I’m grateful. I wish him the absolute best and I’m so grateful I had such a good role model in my life for so many years.

Mat always struck me as genuine, and I have probably only watched a video of his every couple of months. His energy, empathy and humor will be missed. Also: It's not just the catchphrases that will live on, he also established a template for video formats and had a direct link to the RUclips execs so it always felt like he's "our guy" on the inside and you could always feel he would get our grievances with the platform across. Enjoy life Mat.

Since a lot of RUclipsrs I know have been slowing down or quitting recently, it feels somewhat comforting hearing another creator have fun and be excited for making content in 2024. I also have a lot of plans for the year content wise and I’m not stopping any time soon so it’s nice hearing another creator excited to create amongst all the goodbyes (nothing against those quitting. If they want to stop what they’re doing for any number of reasons they should do it).

I think it's actually a lesser role to our preception only. He won't have a public facing role anymore, but it still sounds like he'll continue running his business. He'll just be acting in a CEO/CCO capacity, rather than as a public facing personality.

First time I watched him was alllll the way back in 2013! Was in high school debate team and everyone in there knew him, and we talked about his videos, and kept arguing whether link really was dead or not in Majoras Mask. Then came FNAF, and then Undertale!.
It's sad to see him go. He was a big part of growing up from high school to college.

It's so crazy, i remember watching you back in 2011 ish while i was still in junior high. I'm gonna be honest, I drifted away from your content as many do but as I recently discovered Wendigoon I came back to your content and it's so amazing seeing your drive and passion still flourishing.

the guy made up my entire childhood and got me into fnaf and other video game communitys, i was already holding back some tears from coming out and just seeing him cry doing this goodbye video actually made me tear up a bit, especially knowing that some of his theories may never be finished..
Matpat introduced me to most of the Fandoms im in. I would never have looked at anything new if not for him, he really is amazing at getting people interested.

People cry when celebrities die. And we don't know them either, its just that they meant something to us. There is no shame in that. Even if you don't cry for people you grew up watching. That's okay too.
We will all miss Matpat, but no matter what we say or do… time goes on, and I am happy that Matpat has taught us that. We will truly miss him.

I was there at the beginning of game theory and watched all of their content, with a heavy yet happy heart I wish mat and Steph the best future and nothing but good times, we all will miss them both I truly hope that they will continue to help and inspire not just us but everyone, it was never just a theory. Seeing Matt genuinely sad to step away meant the most, the feeling was always mutual can’t thank dude enough for all the hours away from the bs of life I’m glad he didn’t change hope his next chapter is just as fulfilling
God the sheer relief I felt when you said that you don't have any plans of slowing down or stopping. I respect any youtuber who wants to without a doubt, but watching you nearly every day is just part of my routine. Like a morning coffee or something. 2014 was a great year on RUclips. I discovered channels like game theory and I’m so grateful. I had always been a curious person and it was nice to see someone thinking critically about games but actually having the skill to find the answer, something I couldn’t do myself
