    Thank you for specifically talking about Delaware Home of the UD Blue Hens….my favorite mascot! You answered a question I have had that no one else has answered. I went on disability at age 50, my husband just asked me yesterday…what happens when you turn 65? (I’m 63) I told him what I thought but you confirmed it, in that I get a clean slate! My question is about my 91 year old mother that has probably never reviewed her drug plan and she is paying over $100 dollars for her drug plan! She takes 3 generic maintenance meds! Unfortunately she has dementia and we just became involved in decision making on her behalf. Are we likely to find a drug plan for less this year or is the high cost just because of her age? She took Medicare at age 62 when she retired from her full time job. She worked until she was 87 almost full time hours but no benefits…threw that in because it’s amazing! Thank you for sharing this video…I will definitely be sharing…really appreciate the State specific info!😊k

    • @Theretirementnerds
      @Theretirementnerds  3 месяца назад +1

      Oh dear! She should definitely shop drug plans! Drug plans are not underwritten, meaning it doesn't matter her age or health. I am working on a drug plan search tutorial for the 2026 plans as soon as it is updated on Medicare.gov. Definitely watch for that and save her money! Especially if she is just on generics.
      So glad to know this was helpful!

    Same as Maryland, I've been to Delaware many times. I worked for one year just west of Wilmington in 1986-87. There really aren't any college mascots that I like. The University of Delaware is in Newark. And FYI, that's pronounced "New---Ark", as opposed to Newrk, NJ. 🙂

      @@Theretirementnerds It's a Delaware thing, I suppose. I guess they don't want their "Newark" to be associated with the New Jersey "Newark". Two very different cities. And I guess you didn't get a chance to visit "slower, lower" Delaware. The two lower counties in Delaware (Kent and Sussex) are more like pseudo-South than Mid-Atlantic.

    Ah, Delaware! I've been here for the most part since 1980. I don't know that there's much special about it, I don't really care for beach resorts down south (lived there til 1987), but northern New Castle County, where I've been since, is basically an extended suburb of Philly. I commuted for many years to PA but I never wanted to relocate there, the taxes, the traffic, the roads, all seemed worse. Compared to the surrounding states, I think DE is the cheapest to live, especially since I have no mortgage. lol. Yeah, the "Blue Hens" was a local breed a long time ago, I don't know how much ribbing the men's teams get from that, but I think U of DE is a pretty good school over all. There's also Delaware State University in Dover. I don't know that I have a favorite college mascot since I never went ti college and don't follow sports...

      For some reason, I didn't think it would be so open and green. Driving through Delaware had a lot more open spaces than I assumed it would have. Really enjoyed the drive! Thank you so much for watching!

      @@Theretirementnerds Yeah, it's funny. North of the C&D Canal is all built-up, urban/suburban, where most of the people in the state live, but south of that it's still very largely rural/agricultural. Dover is a very small city. The beach area is quite built up, Nicola's Pizza down there is AWESOME, they sell (online) Nicoboli's - their version of strombolis - that they freeze and can ship to you, very tasty!. The other specialty Pizza place is Grotto's, there are several of those locations. Capriotti's and Casapula's Sub shops are great too.

    Well, we get a kick out of the mascot when the nephew was at UC Santa Cruz, Banana Slugs. Humboldt State has the Lumber Jacks (think Paul Bunion), and Stanford has “the tree” (after they changed from Indians back in the 1980s. The mascot for Cal Bears (UC Berkeley) looks more like a teddy bear. I know I’ve been to Delaware, but I don’t remember a thing about it.

    So if 30% have Advantage and 27% have Supplement, does that mean 43% of people on Medicare in Delaware have no coverage beyond Part A and/or Part B? Thanks for your videos - really helpful info - the state by state tour must be a huge project!

    • @Theretirementnerds
      @Theretirementnerds  4 месяца назад +1

      Most of the other 43% have coverage through something else like VA benefits, Tricare for Life, FEHB, or are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.
      It is a huge project :) But hopefully it helps people :)

      @@Theretirementnerds Former Gator here, but I have 2 out of 3 kids that are Blue Hens. So although you mention that DE has one of the lowest (lower) Advantage rates at 30%, but when you consider how many DE retirees are on government/VA health plans, 30% MA is probably over 50% of the non-vet/gov retired workers. But I'm glad we have a large portion in the Supplemental pool because otherwise just a few catastrophic il]]lnesses might cause a big bump in Plan G rates in the future. As an aside question, since Med Adv is relatively "young", do you think there will come a time in the [not too distant] future that Med Adv will start charging [significant] premiums?
