  • Chocolate is one of my bigger loves. I know it's bad for you so I have it on treat. but one of my favourite chocolates, Cadbury's has a railway connection and its famous locomotives are treated as well as the staff!

    I remember transferring Cadbury's chocolate boxes from four wheel vans that had been damaged in a derailment to good vans. The BR supervisor told us he did not want broken ones transhipped. Some guy reflected that there were not enough 'broken', so a few boxes went via the concrete floor. Just a reflection from sixty years ago; funny what sticks in the mind.

      No kidding! Y’know, it’s always great seeing comments like this; anecdotal experiences that you would have never heard about. There’s so much stuff that happens in between the big picture events in history, and it’s a joy learning about these memories, it’s a very human experience

    Chocolate AND trains in one video? Pure Heaven! (Not even Geoff Marsahll or Jago Hazzard have managed this one.)

    When I was a child, I saw that Hudswell locomotive outside of Moreton's chocolate factory, and never truly got a chance to see it up close, only seeing it as our car drove past the site near Moreton station. It moved from there, and the factory was dismantled and is now another set of houses.

    There was also a railway connection to the Cadbury-owned Fry's factory near Keynsham. Alas the branch was taken out of use in 1980, and the factory itself was shut in 2011 despite new owner Kraft's promise to keep it open.

      Cadbury also owes itself to Frys for the invention of the Chocolate Bar. Originally they planned to build their South West factory in Weston-super-Mare but when they bought out Fry's and Sons they used the Somerdale site in Keynsham.
      Weston-super-Mare still built a housing estate where Cadbury were going to build their factory and named it the Bournville estate as tribute to what they nearly had as well as being the Seaside Town Birmingham citizens came to during holiday seasons.

    Another great video. I was quite impressed with the pulling power of that little diesel. Glad both locos still exist. Many thanks.

    I think the diesel is currently at the Statfold Barn Railway as you enter the site, cosmetically restored (as shown in the photos). I know at the Severn Valley Railway there are a few Cadbury wagons about and there are some at other railways as well.

    In addition to the railway they also transported some ingredients from pre-processing in Worcester to Bourneville by canal.

    Hershey's had its own railway in Cuba,and it was an electric interurban! Still in operation,as part of nationalized Cuban Railways! I don't know if Hershey had an inplant Railway,but that part,maybe was there,but unrecognized! There is one other inplant Railway,very well known,the Coors Brewery operation,located in Golden,Colorado! Anyway,this should add to your list,of industrial lines! Thank you 😇 😊!

    I’ve never had Cadbury chocolate. Is it any good? How does it compare to Baumeister’s? Do they have just plain Milk Chocolate? So many questions, so little time.

    • @juliansadler6263
      @juliansadler6263 2 месяца назад +1

      Yes you can get plain Dairy Milk bars and plain dark Bournville bars. Never heard of Baumeister so I can't make a comparison.

      @@juliansadler6263 Oh, yay! Good to hear they have plain milk chocolate. AS for Baumeister's, just google them, they have so many wonderful products, ranging from bars to infusions and sauces to coffees. Enjoy!
