Let me tell ya'll, as someone who is watching this from the CBC, who is Netflix's co-producer, this show will have you in tears and you will love this child.
Amari Allah I’m trying to like this show, but that girl is talking too damn much I keep pausing and replaying so I can take a break from her excessive talking!
This is an amazing show! I saw an episode on TV (in Canada) No, it's not about Annie the orphan but based on Anne of Green Gables. When I say this girl does the most she does THE M-O-S-T! You can't help loving and rooting for her. Can't wait to binge it on Netflix!
Someone must think that I live inside the bubble but I never read Anne books or hear it, I saw this on netflix and fell in love with it, it made me in tears. So whoever read the books, is this 1 season cover all of "Anne of the green gable" book or just some of it? sorry for the english
I never read the books but I read somewhere, that the season 1 covered chapters 1 through 18 on 38 of the first book "Anne of Green Gables" with some events taked in later chapters but who are not central to the story. The creator/author of the series, Moira Walley-Beckett, also added some events who are not in the book, something that doesn't please the purist of the book. The intent, if I remember well, is a five season series from young girl to very young woman. Something like 13 to 18 years old. I think the author have already 35 hours of materials already written. The actress, Amybeth McNulty, was fourteen years old in season one (now fifteen) but she looks much younger.
I only saw the cartoon series on pbs. It kind of bums me out that every other comment about this series is that the one from the 80s is better. If that's how you feel then keep watching that one. Let me enjoy and admire this Anne that my adult self somehow looks up. Honestly, I'm convinced that she can do anything and yet somehow doesn't come across as a Mary Sue probably because of her temper problem.
Oh yes, Season 1 esp had me in tears, heart wrenching indeed, but the way it is going, and the way the children have grown, the adorable cast, very interesting!!! Can't wait to binge watch Season 3 come Jan.
@Zidane that's kinda the point...Anne Shirley isn't supposed to be pretty. Reread the description of her from "Anne of Green Gables"; she's not described in very flattering terms. She also laments her looks repeatedly, which would make no sense if she were noticeably pretty
Maybe for a new generation, Amybeth McNulty, will be Anne for them. And in 20 years, when a new version of Anne of Green Gables will be made with a new young actress, someone will write in the comments section of the New-RUclips-improved. Sorry but no one is Anne but Amybeth McNulty.
Actually she's perfect. She's awkward, thin, gawky, red headed, freckled, everything is to a t. And she's supposed to be dramatic that's why it feels like she overacts.
@@bobc7557 second that and also fiery headed. Sometimes her impetuous nature did get on my nerves especially when she tore Gilbert's letter to bits even without opening. She's always learned new ways for the better, for instance like she says apologizing can take one a long way. But her impetuous nature stayed on...but then, I guess that's AnnE :).
Hi netflix i just want to say things that bothered me a lot along with the last month, i live in Kuwait and honestly you don't have a lot to offer you don't have Game Of Thrones, Star Wars, Vikings (season 4), Sherlock (season 4), Harry Potter i mean come on it's Harry Potter there's a lot more and this is really bad since i pay a lot for one month and i don't have these simple shows that lived more than 3 years it's so disappointing to be honest my friend have a membership with Hulu and she says it's much better and it has it all you really need to work on these stuff even the famous old movies like (10 things i hate about you) you guys have nothing, please fix these problems and care about us middle easters we watch movies and tv shows too.
I'm in love this series, and haven't seen a disappointing episode yet, but the complaints I'm seeing over diversity are valid. They show different class structures, and glimpse into what (admittedly white) women's issues and feminism looked like at the time, but even though it was a rural town set around 1908, that's not enough (or even a historically valid excuse) to excuse the complete lack of racial diversity. the author didn't include this diversity, but this series is making a lot of smart changes so I don't see why they couldn't of have had a more diverse cast as well.
Just Enjoy the series for what it does, showing a realistic portrayal of this Area at this point in time, there is no need to include other ethnic groups for the sake of it, personally I enjoyed the Irish heritage vibe I got from Anne with an E in this part of the world, people like you always like to spoil things, What is wrong with a film full of white people? The world has gone mad I swear, would you like it if for example a film depicting the construction of the Great Wall of China, had white cast as well as the Chinese building the wall for the sake of it, when historically, only the Chinese Built it, is that good enough for you? If I was to watch such a film, Id only like to see the Chinese build it, its a lot more Authentic that way!
You wont get a better story just by adding black/asian/etc characters to it. I would be a bit baffled if I'd see numbers of ethnics at Prince Edward Island in the 1800s. Did you see the scene in Top Secret! when Chocolate Mousse and Déjà Vu are marching disguised as german soldiers? I think it makes my point.
Considering the author grew up in the exact spot that the books are set, down to the house (And it's not just a town in Canada somewhere... PEI is a tiny little island off the mainland that would only have been reachable by boat in that time period... I visited there last year... It's rural farmland even today... I find it very hard to believe it would have been a very diverse area in that period... Not to mention this is Canada, a baby country like Australia with a tiny population and I imagine not very diverse in that period) I find it hard to believe her books would be very "historically inaccurate". I don't really see how it would add anything either. In the context of the source material she is a complete outsider and all of the other characters are reflective of the period's good and bad ideals- many of them very regimented. She is judged by all of them, including on her appearance. It hardly glorifies white rural society. It does comment on it though. And unless you're comparing this to say slavery, then no, I disagree it's just "white people problems" because everything she goes through is very universal and she's a very interesting character. All GOOD stories are universal.
Sorry! I cannot stand this version. It embellishes the traditional story with a string of subplots that seem totally out of place. I always liked the idea of Anne being a somewhat flawed character with a heart of gold. But why make her behave like a borderline patient with PTSD?
I thought the same thing as you. I've been watching Megan Follows version since I was a little kid. Now, having just watched all seven episodes of Anne With an E, I can safely say Amybeth McNulty blows Megan Follows out of the water. Amybeth McNulty is a real knobby-kneed redhead that matches the book's description much better than Megan Follows.
I agree, KlingonCaptain. I never thought Follows could be topped, but Amybeth McNulty proved me wrong. However, Follows was perfect for how that film was written and produced. Same goes for Amybeth. I get the feeling she could have played the part in the Kevin Sullivan production, but I'm not sure Follows could pull it off in this new adaptation.
Okay, I'll watch it because you've both made me curious. I mean... she has a lot to live up to in my eyes. I read the first few books before I saw the movie, and the entire cast just... FIT. And I'm a bit stuck in my ways, I can admit. But I'll watch the series, and with an open mind. I'll even thank you both in advance for convincing me!
I know, thank god! As a white person it really bothers me when a show shoehorns other races into my entertainment. I can only stomach it for so long before I become sick of it. I just want whites and nothing else.
America and Canada are majority white. What's wrong with our entertainment also being majority white? Does Japan make too much entertainment for Japanese people?
suzie xu it is and I'm pretty sure they will, it would be stupid to make a show just with the first book and not continue the story, especially with that cliffhanger
Let me tell ya'll, as someone who is watching this from the CBC, who is Netflix's co-producer, this show will have you in tears and you will love this child.
Why? who is?
Amari Sali agreed.
I agree. Few scenes in the series literally left me in tears
I DO love this child! She will be earning an award for acting chops soon, Im sure!
Amari Allah I’m trying to like this show, but that girl is talking too damn much I keep pausing and replaying so I can take a break from her excessive talking!

This show is extremely inspiring, educative and entertaining

The picture of this tv show is just great
Because how pure the colors are "wink wink"
This show is incredibly good! Beautiful!
I've never read the books but I LOVE this show. Anne brings out such a light heartedness in me even as an adult. What a beautiful story!
OMGGG i started reading the series again and i can't wait to see this!!! also matthew is such a matthew in this lmfao
"Anne...Cordelia Shirley Cuthbert."
I'm watching this on CBC and it's honestly amazing
That look on her face at the end is priceless!

Is it me or does amybeth reminds me od anne Hathaway
Hello :)
Aren't you a little annoyed? , this Anne is nothing like the Anne of the book.
Not at all! I'm not the guardian of the book.
I think the actress who plays this Anne over acts. I couldn't finish the first episode because she was so annoying.
Actually she's perfect. She's awkward, thin, gawky, red headed, freckled, everything is to a t. And she's supposed to be dramatic that's why it feels like she overacts.

This is terrible... the original is so much better than this
Careful what you're calling 'the original' :)
