In front of 1,200 fans who had made a tortuous journey North, substitute Jay Dasilva was brought down as he dribbled into the box and Wells coolly dispatched from the spot with three minutes of added time on the clock.
A point was no more than City deserved after Jack Clarke had given the Black Cats the lead in the 59th minute in a game the visitors largely looked comfortable in and created openings for more than the final ironic twist.

Played incredibly well. And as much as we got the pen at the end, it was clearly a pen earlier as well. Did love Syksey laughing at the keeper as they gave the ball to Wells after he’d spent all that time trying to get in his head. Keep playing like that and we will be absolutely fine this year and next.
Well done Nakhi , ice cool penalty, under so much pressure.
Well done Nahki loads of pressure there
Great captain's decision from Weimann to tell Nakhi to take the penalty.
Good result
Mehmeti is something else!
The reason wells took the pen was bc the Sunderland goalkeeper did what Martinez does gets in your head so good choice by city
Sunderland penalty denied our penalty given and scored
City should have had another penalty!
Mehmeti unlucky again 🤦🏻♂️
1:10 how the hell that wasn’t a pen is beyond me
Nice to see City, do the last minute scoring thing for a change
I'm looking forward to next season. So much pace, talent and potential! That Mehmeti's vision and passing is exactly what we needed in midfield. Let's keep these Younsters and build from this foundation. Tanner has definitely secured that right back position, looks settled.. Does anyone know what happened to Atkinson to go off after 16' mins?
Didn’t look good tbh, something knee or acl related then a Sunderland player landed on his head so worrying
Keeper's face when Wells places the ball on the spot.
O'niens yellow card 🤣
I have no idea what was in his head...
Just a nice tactical foul 🤣
Only gotta wait another 500 days for our next pen
Hate to say it but the last time we played man city. We were 2nd or 3rd in the table. Then didn't win a game for 20 odd games or so.
Sykes absorbing all the gamesmanship from the keeper, just to move aside to let Nahki focus on the pen😂👏🏼
Good feeling at the gate again. Pearson is a top manager and is starting to build his team👍
Agreed. Take some time
One day a referee will have the guts to book all 5 or 6 players who deliberately delay the taking of penalties.
Great point, COYR
Deserved point for sure
Well that took forever
