  • I didn't mention pollution while filming this video, however, it's a very serious concern in today's time for wild water. Flood water like what is pictured can carry untold amounts of contaminants and even if boiled, should only be drank as a last resort. This subject deserves an entire video of its own.
This section of the river that created this backflow is far inland away from many sources of pollution.
Finding clean water in the wilderness is a challenge pretty much no matter where you are. But wherever you are, water tends to behave the same. It follows gravity and flows downhill and pools. How we get clean water from that source, is pretty simple. filter it, boil it, purify it, or risk it. I don't advise the latter.

Water procurement and preparation is huge. People take a lot for granted.

Collect it , let it settle for 3 hours so all the muck gos to the bottom , filter it then boil & let cool . I myself have a small & not so cheap filtration system that I keep with me when out on a trail or camping . It’s can filter up to 500 gallons before I need to buy or replace all its filters & it filters out everything even harmful diseases & such like micro stuff , the thing cost me around $1000 dollars & replacement filters are very cheap for it & it was way worth the price I paid for it because it’s a GOD send to have something like this .

Modern filters are a indescribable convenience out in the back country and only those who've had to do without one truly understand how nice it is haha.
We have to take care of those filters or else they won't take care of us. I've seen people taking their filters and putting them straight in muck. I guess that's fine if you need water then and there immediately. But that's not good practice.
You got it though. Clear water is the way.

How about flowing big river water?
    If you boilt it?

Avoid rivers if possible, there is a higher likelihood of a river carrying bad things. Especially if it's recently rained hard. Boiling won't remove pollutants and that would be the main concern with river water if the source is unknown.
