I daily my Suzuki dl650, in Norway, with anlas winter grip 2 plus or something. Roads are covered with snow or ice most of the time. Sometimes I ride on wet, bare pavement, that's great. Works great in conditions like the ones you have. I've studded the front with 180 x 1.9 mm screw-in studs though. Got studs in the back tires too, but in the middle they just bend and fly off after 2 weeks. Tires would be alright without studs too. Run the tires at about 0.8 bar in front and 1 bar back, really makes the difference in snow and slush.
I rode in "The Beast Of The East" in England, and I regret that more than anything. There was so much snow that a 2 lane road turned into 1 lane. As I was on this road, I was approaching a roundabout which was also 2 lanes into 1 because of the snow; I was following this steady bit of road and going over the roundabout and a van cut me off. It was either go into the curb, snow and bushes or the van itself. Wasn't the greatest - the van didn't stop and it took me about 30 minutes trying to pick my snow covered bike up off the snow since it was just slipping. The adrenaline unfortunately wore off so I ended up feeling my 2 broken toes, my 1 broken finger and a bruised bone in my leg and a bruised bone in my wrist. All I can say is stay safe - and mirrors would have probably saved my ass.
5:47 it looks like the guy is on his phone. Not only is he riding super close to you, but he was also driving while distracted. That's terrifying, especially being in the snow and all. Glad you made it safe.
I have to ride a motorcycle at work, and the most important thing I learned is be EXTREMELY careful at turns. You don't wanna lean for turns, too much shift in the centre of gravity and your traction is gone and you're sliding on the road. So my tip is, if you HAVE to ride a motorcycle in winter, drive much slower than you would normally, during sharper turns, go at even lower speeds. if cars honk at you, just show them the finger, they'll understand. The police can't fine you for being safe on the road, so don't worry.
That was hard to watch. The truck on your tail was frustrating the crap out of me. On a good note, you just talked me out of riding in the snow and maybe saved my bike, thanks!
It's all about tire selection, tire pressure selection, and being more gentle then you would be in the rain. There are winter tires for motorcycles. You can also try good studs, in soft off-road tires.
HJK helmets have an anti fog pin lock inner snap in visor. They work great. I’ve ridden in -40 degree weather, plus the wind chill factor, and never fogged up.
Anyone able to make out the company name on the side of that truck. Should send that company a link to this video and show them their driver tailgating a motorcycle in piss poor conditions.
I rode in the ice some on a mountain pass, and what I found is that trucks will use that as an opportunity to try to make you crash, even crowding you out of your lane, and force you onto the shoulder of the road. Many a truck driver cares 0% about your safety, especially if there is ice on the road.
I started riding this year .. and I’m not a pro yet with years of experience but I’m experienced lol and when cars are 20 yards close to me I get pissed like back off that’s why I keep my police baton on my side . And any mfs wanna try I’ll smash windshield and have them try chase me lol
I learned how to ride on Black ice. You must come to a a stop before you change direction. If you lean to any side on black ice you are done. Ride straight with both feet on the ground, atop before turning.
in Vancouver BC, we get hit with snow even in summer, specially up in the mountain pass, you have to be ready for everything, always wear leathers, and windshields are a must . Ride safe ;)
Do not ride when snow is on the road. I have rode when there was blowing snow across the road, and the temp was below 0, but I will not ride when snow is on the road. That is like asking to be killed. Just don't do it. It's not worth it.
Above and below freezing two different things. I'll ride down to about 38 degrees. Don't want to hit any ice. I'm not big on riding in rain or snow. But if I had to do so, want it to be above freezing. Wouldn't ride in that unless I was stuck out and no one with a trailer.
how did it go bro? im going to ride my 125 10 miles to work this morning 😂 nervous af lol edit: couldnt even get it out of the fkn yard 😂 its a very gentle slope, every time i gave it a bit of power i slid sideways, couldnt point it at the gate to leave ahahah. fml. hope it went better for you lol
They make snow, all terrain and rain tires for bikes. You can also, and should stud your tires. I snowmobile in the winter, do I just wear my snowmobile gear while riding in the winter. It's also gotten me used to riding in the bitter cold and blinding snow. P.S; the 2 helmets I bought with heated visors were shit. All they did was turn that melted snow and frost into solid ice on the visor. Don't waste your money lol
Heavy snow in London England this video helped me make up my mind that I will have to use public transport to get home this morning not really wanting to wreck my bike or worse off myself .
SRKCYCLES, I leave my mask or shield cracked open while running during rain here. We had black ice on road the other day and saw No bikes out til afternoon. Wet riding, do it a lot here or you don't ride bikes here and we ride buddy.
I had my first ever snow ride a week ago today in Atlanta. The snowflakes were so fat that they smacked me in the eyes driving up GA 400 in a driving snowstorm. I don't think I'll do that again!
im pretty stupid too i had to get to work live 30 miles away i got no choice just go slow and steady dont worry about the cars behind you they are nice and warm and safe in there cars your more vulnerable dont let them put pressure on you to go faster than you have too. it actually makes you a better rider your more aware and focused then you usually will be but good experience is essential for your safety and others i dont advise it for beginners you got to be 100 percent committed and confident you know your bike from top to bottom how much pressure to have on the breaks and what to do if something does go wrong for the learners out there play it safe walk or get a lift to where you need to go that day if its icey. ride safe this winter people and remember its no such thing as a late biker your ride there safely not quickly.
I've been going out to ride in the rain all summer because I've been humoring the idea of winter riding to work this winter, I'll see how far into it I get this year.
Riding in the snow "It's tough to gauge how slick the road is" on a bike with a sketchy choke an no mirrors... what could possibly go wrong? Thanks for keeping the insurance rates higher for all responsible riders.

Lol when i ride in the snow i ride crazy slow. I ride a ktm 690 enduro with street tires. Unfortunately this has been my main transportation for the past few years. I even lived off the bike for over a year. Off road tires helped me. But now thay i have street tires ans its 30 degrees out. Sometimes i stick my foot down while riding to see how slick it is and sometimes im just terrified i am. It realy takes a love of motorcycles to do this. Side note i ride a unicycle for fun in the mountains and that has helped me so much for having good balance
The guy in the truck is riding your ass because you're going 15mph with no hazards on, and no mirrors that I can see......haha. Let the traffic go by you. Wave them on! I actually thought he was being cool by being your backer. He stopped and put his flashers on when you stopped the bike. Blocking traffic behind you. Very cool!
A buddy of mines dad back in the 80s his dad was a Vietnam vet rode his gold wing to town one morning after a bad snow storm to get food from a local drive through Hardee's because his driveway was covered in snow his logic take the bike lol I'm setting in the drive through getting a burger and behind me he pulls up on the wing 7 inches of fresh snow on the road the lived a few miles outside of town
I use a snowmobile helmet, the visor is 2 layer vacuum sealed and you don’t need the electrical visor if you have the breath guard that channels your breath out.

It's cool to hear tips for riding on snow and ice in the comments, particularly black ice, I bet that pisses off more than a few cagers, so I'd try be as close to the shoulder as possible. Hopefully during low traffic as well. The hill and that truck following so close freak me out more now that I know he wasn't a support vehicle. Could it be he was trying shield you from making thump, thump noises under other cars' wheels if you fell?
I got caught by a snow storm while at work after riding my cycle. By the time I came out 6 inches were sitting on my cycle. Rode 14 miles home. Scariest ride of my life. Thank God the cars left tracks so I could follow in them.
Would Rain-X Anti-Fog work on the inside and outside of the shield? I've been thinking about that for my shield, but not sure if the Rain-X is okay to use on a transition shield. Just a thought for the both of us. Thanks for any insight you might have about this. Be safe!
Use rain-x on the outside to prevent snow from sticking to the visor and Bob Heath anti fog on the inside however due to the colder temperatures you will still have some condensation.
Man, people here in Indiana ride my butt in dangerous situations like fog riding too. Drives me nuts. That truck behind you would have run you over if something happened. Cool ride though.
Sorry, I have 3 motorcycles and the only one I feel okay with on snowy roads is my Can Am Spyder. You don't sound like you're having fun there. You're right about things happening fast if the front end starts to wash out. You can look real stupid real quick. The Spyder always upright.
Anti fog the visor & a strip of duct tape over your nose. (I've tried about every breath deflector and prefer tape) Watch your temps & precipitation for black ice. Pro tip...Watch out for car washes when the road temp is below 25F on otherwise dry roads. Rear brakes only because you won't catch the front when it goes.
I hope that new owner fixes the carbs cause look at the discoloration on the exhaust.. must be running real hot, then that high ass idle, unless you were running it on choke the whole time. Or maybe it only runs on choke which would indicate air leak/lean. Fix it asap
If you've got a long journey, think ahead. Just did 6 hours of riding in, at first light snow, then heavy. The trouble is, google maps, which usually does a pretty good job of judging traffic, doesn't take into account that as snow gets heavier, traffic gets slower so when it tells you, you are just an hour away from home, you'll actually be 2-3 hours; and what seems to be just passable conditions at the beginning of your journey i.e. dry areas of road in the tyre marks of other cars, will be non-existent after 1 hour of snowfall. Feeling very lucky to be home, nearly lost the front wheel 3 or 4 times; several pricks driving up my ass; saw one fender-bender; and two ambulances at two separate occasions. Should have given up but for the sake of saving a few dollars on a hotel and saving face at work tomorrow, I persevered - STUPID!
I think that I'd have thrown up a 'Get the F off of my ass' hand signal to the jackass that was tailing you so closely, or pulled completely off the road, to let the jackass pass you. You kept cooler about it than I would've!!!
PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP,,,I'm going to florida from Portland,Or on my birthday Nov 5th. I've never rode more then 100 miles at once on any of my bikes (started riding 2yrs ago, sorta). Let's just say I have a problem that I've felt with and my aunt who's actually a nurse that has the same problem but florida is way behind in "treatment" and after I got help I need to help her and share some of my "wisdom"...and I dont know if it will be a happy quick turn around or if it will take me 2 months to help push her along, SHIT, sorry man question is what's a good rout to take this time of the year. Doesnt matter if takes 2 days or 8...damn, I really hope u see this...
Don’t they make an anti fog thing that you can put on the inside of your visor that will stop it 100% from fogging up? I had that stuff for my paintball days. Couldn’t play with out it.
And you didn't have mirrors on that bike either did you know he was behind you like that at the time!! If you did you probably would have flipped him off and told me go the hell around, glad you made safe!! Thx for sharing
My dad always told me "when you ride in the snow, the cops know you're sober. What they DON'T know is if you're crazy, desperate or hardcore."
if you ride when snow is on the sidewalk, You know its perfect weather
Maybe all 3!
Or all of them.
That truck was driving me nuts
Me too!
It was driving the guys nuts also. My bike had no mirrors so I had no idea he was back there. He was way too close
Srkcycles ya man if you would have laid that bike down or had to stop quick ,you would have been wearing that Ford as a hat

Legit thought that truck was some sort of “safety escort” with you. He was so close he might as well have got out and jumped on with ya.

The truck was tailgating you because you were riding at like 10mph
So your main tip is: "dont do it"
The guy in the truck must be with you or why did he turn around with you and follow so closely? I'm thinking he was just making sure you were ok.
I have no problem riding in a torental downpour but wvwn im not crazy enough to ride in a snowstorm.
