Bit of variety at this Gala! Two Standards, Andrew Barclay, a Caledonian and extinct Battle of Britain Class!
5 Loco's were in service:
Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST, No.2315 "Lady Ingrid"
Caledonian 812 Class, No.828
BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0, No.78019
BR Standard Class 4MT Tank, No.80078
SR Battle of Britain Class, No.34072 "257 Squadron"
34072 "257 Squadron" was renamed to lost Class Mate No.34066 "Spitfire" for the Gala! She was at Tunbridge Wells West with the RCTS/LCGB "Sussex Downs-man" Rail-tour on the 22nd March 1964. Nearly 60 Years ago.
There were some double header with BR Standard Class 2 "78019" & Caledonian "828"!
Lady Ingrid was on Queen Mary Brake Van shuttle between Tunbridge West Wells and Groom bridge. She also did a bit of station pilot duties due to 34072 "257 Squadron" was to big for the run-around loop! So she was uncoupled and moved into the yard to refill as Lady Ingrid pull the train into the station. I original plan to get the last train back to Eridge with the double-heading BR Standard's Class 2 & 4 Tank and see a Triple header with 828 departing Eridge! Sadly, the train were running very late and I decided to film "Spitfire" departing Eridge instead. Which was a bit tight, but i was glad that I film it!

Nice captures on the Spa Valley, especially with the different locations. I went to the Spa Valley Railway for the weekend and also went to Eridge Station on the last day.

Nice video. You caught me on film. In the brakevan and then getting on the service with the cally. You was stood close to us at eridge filming . 😊 if I'd known I would have said hi. 😁

It’s so sad that 34066 Spitfire was not preserved when 34023 Blackmoor Vale was chosen for preservation due to it being in better condition than 34066 Spitfire.
It is a shame that not all members of the class were preserved. 😔 But it is nice that they renamed some preserved members to one’s that didn’t survive. 😄👍🏻 It gives a new generation a chance to ride behind them and it could get boring seeing the same engine in different locations? 🤔
