Matt buddy ..... the whole point of an alternate is to be able to do the dance if a dancer can't dance. You have to KNOW and learn just as much as a dancer with the position.

But in that last competition, Fernando had the same job as he did, and he learned everything... so you can't complain that it can't be done. There's no excuse.

Why is Matias there? Surely to god they could find someone who would value being in Joffrey Elite? He looks like he was just shown the piece that morning.
He's complaining, I'm only 12 and I'm the understudy for all of the dwarfs in our ballet and it's not that hard to memorize all the moves and placement as long as you're at least marking it in the back and paying attention.
depends on the dance also, sometimes the steps and counting is quite different between different parts
Honestly! It irritates me that he's not paying more attention! As an understudy/alternate, you need to learn everything and you should always be on the ball because you never know what could happen. You can't just pout in the corner about being the alternate and be on your phone -- don't you want to get back into the dance, don't you want to prove that you deserve your spot back?! Agh, I really hope Fernando healed up and can dance for the show because I just...Matt doesn't deserve it, imo.

Loved the episode---so much dancing. The drama over the ballet piece was a bit much---but I really loved seeing the contemporary piece with Harrison, Niamh and Maddie. They were awesome. Good luck at the competition!!
If I want to watch classical ballet on pointe I'll watch "Strictly Ballet"---contemporary is what the Joffrey Elite does best. They should stick to their strengths!! Love the dancers and seeing the Still I Cry piece.
Wow. I'm surprised at their pointe work: I swear it was better in past episodes, but this could just be a rough day with the competition so near. Even so, I'm surprised some of the people in Joffrey Elite even made it into the group with that level of technique....
Also, Matt, I don't feel much sympathy for you as the alternate. Even when I was dancing in the corps, my friends and I -- also in the corps -- learned all of the other roles because you literally never know when something happens and you're needed for a solo or even the main role. Just... LEARN ALL THE PARTS. DON'T BE ON YOUR PHONE. YOU'RE IN JOFFREY ELITE FOR A REASON NOW SHOW WHY YOU'RE THERE. AGH. Anyway, hopefully things look better for the performance.

rose Proust joffrey has two types if programs, contemporary jazz and ballet. I'm sure Anna is from ballet. She said she's not very good at contemporary. I think some of these dancers are from the non ballet program like Madison and Niamh. Only a idiot would make them go on point and put them in a point routine. Why not show Anna doing ballet and Madison doing contemporary? They can all dance amazing but in there own styles.
They want to be professionals so at their age they should be way better... Harrison said he didn't went tp college to be a dancer, this is very bad technique even for their age.
however Harrison did an amazing job with his song...maybe Broadway is his venue?

My favorite dancer on this show is Niamh. She's a gorgeous dancer and such a humble soul. but why -oh why- must she only wear LIP LINER with no lipstick :(

ballet is beautiful and looks effortless to the audience but seems brutal and unforgiving to the dancers. I commend their dedication and commitment.

Why aren't they doing what they are best at? Niamh and Maddie are the best at contemporary ballet and Laurie and Anna are best at classical ballet. TBH I only like the contemporary routine....
def. the ballet choreography is too eclectic and messy and it makes the dancers look bad. it’s not very good choreography, unfortunately. :(

I don't understand why Joffrey elite is competing? It's a ballet school, they perform, not compete.
I think it's to get their name out there and expand their reach as a school? Like, it shows that there's more than just strict classical training at Joffrey, you also have the opportunity to compete and meet these renowned choreographers.
competition is also a valid form of performance and many good dancers have emerged from a competitive background. Joffrey also has students who study contemporary and jazz seriously . Some of the best dancing in America is not strictly ballet.

Please explain to me why these dancers are the elite? They don't hold a candle to the dancers that come out of the Vaganova Ballet Academy. They just seem to lack technique.

when I was thirteen, I understudied a piece with twelve distinct parts. it can be done, but it does require a lot of discipline and practice. clearly matias cannot handle that, unfortunately.

sorry to say this but 12 episodes in and I am not impressed. They are just technically not very good dancers, any of them... they don't have the basics down. unpointed feet, unsickled feet, floppy, unplaced arms, legs not straightened, overall not enough strength. What's up with this? I thought the Joffrey was better than this.

hannahkate most dancers do that...not sure why but its not an odd thing to do....
hannahkate it's a personal preference. I sometimes like putting my tights over my Leotard sometimes too

Last episode people were crying for Matt saying he must be depressed... that’s not what he meant when he said he couldn’t get out of bed... he meant physically lol he was the weakest one and his body couldn’t take it. But not knowing the dance and his whole attitude is really frustrating to see... I’m so bummed for Fernando... that kid friggin deserves it. And if Matt can’t get it together then they need to bring in another alt... that ain’t right
