What do you think of Rivian's manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois? Let us know what you think about the company and whether they will emerge (and remain) a competitor to Tesla?
I'd be interested in knowing why they chose Central, IL. Because the facility was cheap to purchase? I grew up nearby. It's good to see something good happen for the economy in that area.
@@billthecat7536 our understanding is that it was largely due to (a) favourable government incentives and tax breaks, and (b) the ability to take an almost-ready car manufacturing plant and update a little further (which likely saved Rivian hundreds of millions, if not more). For some perspective, the new plant Rivian has announced for Georgia will cost an estimated $5 Billion to build. The $16 million paid for this plant, which included equipment, was quite the deal.
Rivian is building their second assembly plant in my county in Georgia. It's going to be HUGE. 400,000 vehicles a year with 7,500 employees. Groundbreaking in Spring of 2022. Production begins 2024. Welcome to Georgia Rivian!
@@vegawrld5791 Hello, the position was line lead. Hate to say it,but I was not offered the position. I hope they can continue to grow and be a real competitive co.
So this is one of the companies that make that fire hazard of a electric car the kind of fires that are hazardous fuems when on fire with those nuclear waste batteries when they dispose of those unenviomental friendly ion batteries
Recent reports have over 5,000 employees at Normal. I believe they're still only working one general assembly shift though, so that may explain why the parking lot is not full.
Great location! Buy American products.... Reduce shipping times... Especially with the ship on fire full of VW & Porsche cars. Its better to buy local cars
There's no question Rivian and Tesla have a massive advantage over EVs built elsewhere. It will be interesting to see whether Rivian receives a similar ambivalence (and maybe even disdain) from the US government, notwithstanding them both being US-based EV manufacturers. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow pretty unimpressive compared to Tesla plant. Looks like a very slow process. As the owner of 2 Tesla's I just put a deposit down on the R1S and cancelled my Model X order. Tesla does not care about their customers. The reason I am going to try Rivian is because of Tesla's Horrid customer service. I don't believe any company, including Rivian can give worse customer service. I guess I will find out.

@@trailblazedHQ Money talks, right? Thanks.
@@billthecat7536 Mitsubishi was in that building '88-'15. It was basically already set up as a automobile assembly plant
it doesn't look anything like a Tesla factory. it looks old school which is a bit surprising. I hope it works for them.

Working in this plant and seeing the Rivian truck everyday. They really grew on me.
That's awesome! How is life at the plant? Did the recent fire severely impact operations?

Good luck with the job!

I see the cars in the employee parking lot but where are the workers ? Everything looks like it's built by Robos

Agreed Ahmed, if we to bring production back to the US then we need to vote with our wallets
Meals are not free, I work there and haven’t been free for the last year
6:31 Those meals are not free, though they are subsidized by the company.
Has the wage changed ?
I will stick to my 71 dodge power wagon thank you
EV that no one wants or can afford. More of the same government subsidies we all have to pay for.
Facility is awesome, operated by fools!!!
Can you elaborate? Interested in an inside perspective. Thanks for watching!
I work there , they are very unsafe , there is an ambulance there on a weekly basis
