@@bite-sizecomics8170 That's fair enough. My personal go-to is Under the Lake from series 9 but The Girl in the Fireplace or Human Nature are good ones to explain the Doctor I think :)
I'm here as I've never seen anything, and this video really told me nothing about where to start. All it did was list cast members. Season priority list needed!
I absolutely disagree with not watching rivers arc in the wrong order. The directors knew what they were doing, and all though it would make more sense that way, it would be much less entertaining
I disagree mostly. Watching along River's timeline, or even Claras, is more of a 2nd or 3rd rewatch thing. You don't fully comprehend what's going on until you know the context of what's happening around the character. I'd certainly start at Rose and continue on from there. Most seasons follow one or two companions and so you get the "Story of the companion" alongside The Doctors experiences. Skip the episode Love and Monsters.
I feel that skip the love and monsters 🤣 always hated that episode... then it was fan written if I remember rightly... I even drew a monster for that competition! Mine was wayyy better 🤣
I mean for series 7, the whole mystery box of the “impossible girl” is the crux of the series, so it doesn’t really make sense for a first time viewer to watch that way and kill the mystery. On rewatch maybe? But first time, not so much. Same for River
I mean maybe this has merit as a rewatch method but as a way to get into the series, ruining series long arcs by seeing their payoffs early just for the sake of “seeing it in the order the companions did”… madness.
Start with Christopher Eccleston’s first season in the 2005 reboot then go through to present day and make sure not to skip the specials. After that, do whatever you want
Except the whole of River Song is that she’s designed to be a mystery that you uncover as you watch through the show from the beginning. It’s like saying you should start watching a mystery movie with the last scene because then you’ll know what’s been going on the whole time
Collider.... wow dude this channel used to mean so much to so many... funny that you can barely break 4k views on most videos when you used to have such a thriving movie fan community. Good job.
judging by some of these pronunciations maybe these guys havent watched it properly! Jokes aside this video was well researched, I'd always suggest first time viewers watch in order or cherry pick a few well regarded stories!
To the creator of this video: I'm sorry, but, who are you? Just to pinpoint and/or nitpick, why was this video made? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but how could you mess up something as simple as the pronunciation of the word: Dalek? This could have been a unique exercise in how to watch 'Doctor Who' from a companion's point of view, but the video's title is misleading. The title of this video should have been something along the lines of: "How To Watch 'Doctor Who' From A Companion's Point Of View" Yet it was not. To @Collider, if you need someone to properly cover 'Doctor Who' or need research to be done for a particular project surrounding 'Doctor Who,' I would gladly offer my services on a freelance basis. My inbox is open.
Good advice. For the people closest to me, I would start with 5 and watch that whole series ("season" in U.S. parlance) in order. It's fantastic and just bizarre enough to pique their interests. Then follow up with stuff that appeals to them, interspersing those episodes to fill in details or highlight other aspects of the show. Ultimately let them decide what they want to see next.
@@mattsandersss An extremely hypocritical point imho. By that same point this whole video is wrong or bad because it isn't letting people "make their own judgments" in your words. Also at the same time my point was a suggestion not a judgement.
Opens video to get idea of watch order…gets spoiled major moments that would be great to watch if they just said the order to watch it in rather than saying “this scene would be better after you understand this”
River’s backstory gives a different perspective to her sacrifice. She had no choice. If 19 died, she would not exist. Her parents probably would not have gotten married and she would not have been conceived in the Time Vortex. 10 had to survive to become 11.
Holy sht , speak AMERICAN. Give me a season number to start with. What's with all these names and doctor numbers?! People who don't know, don't know. Don't you guys have all of these numbered like civilized countries do?? Dr Who guides on where to start invariably suck and are so confusing.
I do not like this video 1. As the first result for "how to watch doctor who in order" you do not help with understanding almost any word 2. For somebody who has seen the show, you most likley know the characters and do not need this video
If you don’t want to start from the beginning of the new era Dr Who, a good starting point is starting with New Dr. Who series 5 the 11th doctor or series 10 the 12th doctor. Is this a troll? You can’t pronounce Dalek or Ianto (Lanto? Seriously?) and Clara you said the American way, which can be forgiven but I don’t think you’re American????? L video
I definitely agree, but I think it would be valuable to first watch the series in order (to get it from the Doctor's perspective), then go back and watch it from the chronological perspective of specific companions, then again from the Doctor's to use the new context. Take my comment with a grain of salt … I'm still in the middle of my first viewing of the series.
Sorry but this is bollacks I always watch Doctor who in order from 2005-present. I always still get the wonder and get extra lore and meaning from it. It would be weird to do it from a companions perspective and would not work with River’s point of view at all. Also u got rivers timeline wrong ngl.
When I decided to watch Doctor Who I started with An Uneartly Child and did not stop until I reached Husbands of River Song, which was then the most recent episode.
