      My first thought was that even the Nailed It! contestants could nail that. Maybe not the dog, but if you can stack two tiers and put buttercream on, you can probably accomplish that. super plain, boring, and not what was ordered. Definitely NOT worth $250, evn if it was the best cake you ever tasted.

    As an amateur cake decorator with 15 years of experience, I kinda agree with cake twink. Cake 1 actually fulfilled what you wanted. Yes, it’s not great but not having flowers and being so plain for over $200, makes Cake 2 seem overpriced for what it is. If you wanted a plain 40 serving wedding cake, you could get the same for cheaper elsewhere. Though I liked their Cosmo, the fact it’s also broken makes me feel it deserves a lower score.

    • @totally_absurd
      @totally_absurd 5 months ago +31

      I agree about the price, but from "I ordered this for my wedding and there's no time to order a different one" standpoint, guests won't know about the prompts, but they will see how wonky and sloppy that the first cake is. The second one I can at least put on the table without being embarrassed. And also the second cake is easy to save by just adding some flowers. There is no saving the first cake

    • @milkayukii1333
      @milkayukii1333 5 months ago +29

      But at the end, the wedding it's not about the guests but the ones who are getting married and PAYING for everything

    • @totally_absurd
      @totally_absurd 5 months ago +8

      @milkayukii1333 considering how badly the first one is done, prompts being there don't really feel satisfying (it also tastes like sh*t, from what I gathered). And again, you can fix cake 2 last minute (even without being a professional cake decorator), you'll need hours to fix the first one and it will still taste bad

    I'm on Cake Twink's side on the cakes. I imagine if I went in and saw that second cake I would IMMEDIATELY be upset about it. Too many missed prompts.
    The first one is still a disaster in execution, but at least they read and followed the prompts.

      the second one didn't try to fulfill the order.

    • @vindaflyfox
      @vindaflyfox 5 months ago +29

      I disagree with this because thinking logistically, if I were to receive the 1st or 2nd cake on my wedding day, realise it was not what I wanted, but need to make it work anyway because it's too late to get another cake, you could just run to a dollar store and buy some artificial flowers in your wedding colours and chuck them into the 2nd cake and it would look pretty decent. It feels like the 2nd cake they planned to put real fresh flowers into it right before it was picked up, but someone forgot. Fixing the 1st cake would require completely scrapping the icing and starting again with decorating it, because it was done so messily.

    • @Christanl74
      @Christanl74 5 months ago +18

    • @emilm09
      @emilm09 5 months ago +29

      @vindaflyfox but how would you fix the dog? 'cause although cute, it was broken in several places. You'd have to go out and try and find figurine that looks like that dog last minute? Basically you're decorating the whole cake the day of the wedding, that would be hella stressful.

  • @PrincessHellkat

    I’m definitely no baker but I think I have to go with Team Twink here. If I had given that prompt and paid $250 and received Cake 2 I would pitch a fit. They just completely left off so many requested details. No flowers, no colors, text not on top, and the one request they did honor was broken. Just did not follow instructions at all. Imo it’s the most boring looking of the three because they just didn’t put on those requests. The first cake is still definitely subpar but at least they did what you asked.
    Thank you for sharing Cosmo with us. What a charming way to honor a beloved companion’s memory. ❤🐾

      @longarmingbyjaclyn yep, if people saw the first cake they would think it's home made or from a small/new baker but they put effort into making it the second one looks so bad like you got a last second white cake for cheap and forgot to decorate it

    • @fringe394
      @fringe394 5 months ago +9

      Both cakes are equally disastrous. First cake not evenly layered and different colors inside would make me so angry because why am I paying a bakery when I could’ve done the job myself. Also like ten fingerprints🤢 on the cake and not properly covered in buttercream. A cheap toy tor a dog. Second cake they just ignored the requests but imo it’s no better because cake 1 was a disgusting cake that I could’ve made at home. Difference it’’d be at least sanitary. Both would get 0.5 star. Maybe cake 2 only slightly higher because it doesn’t look like a middle schooler with poor hygiene made it.

    • @WerewolfWaifu
      @WerewolfWaifu 4 months ago +18

      Definitely NOT. I’d rather my cake be a plain white that I could probably quickly decorate with some flowers instead of a cake that’s piped horribly and just a mess…A lot of wedding cakes are plain anyways so it’s not the end of the world but you can’t recover from such a messy uneven cake

    • @pamorama
      @pamorama 21 day ago +1

      @nurseii9018 the criteria was supposed to be them following the prompt which included the pink and gold color, which wasn't reflected on that cake, the saying, being on top, and plus their dog was broken. So they really didn't fulfill any of the prompts were at least the first one did.

  • @anubislover8989
    @anubislover8989 4 months ago +45

    I feel like, with the "Oops, No Prenup" aspect, cake #1 did so much better than #2, because they at least put flowers and the like on top of the cake. Them adding that as a banner both looked cute AND was arguably smart, because it could be easily removed if the couple changed their mind on it since that feels like the kind of thing a couple would joke about then have second thoughts on day of. So they went with a method where it was visible and cohesive, but could easily be removed if needed.
    Meanwhile, cake #2 literally kept the whole cake blank. There was plenty of of room to write the message and that made the exclusion more obvious. Instead they just basically scribbled it on the board with icing.

      Yes, for all the first cake's flaws, that bakery actually gave what was asked for! I agree someone in the second bakery dropped the ball... but that doesn't change the fact that they messed up a wedding cake. That's a big deal.

    • @nurseii9018
      @nurseii9018 5 months ago +116

      Nope. If I got the second cake as my order (YES it’s a scam) but I can quickly decorate it with some flowers, if not get someone last minute put some other decorations on there since it’s mostly plain. You CANT recover from the first cake, it’s already all piped and decorated and looks horrible. I’d take a plain cake over a messy one any day. Both are scams.

    I am absolutely baffled by cake number 2. I would physically return to the cake shop if that was delivered to request a full refund because what even is that? In my profession, when a customer gives me a checklist of things that need to be complete as per their order, I run through that, I double check it, and I make sure everything is complete. Even THE most basic bit about "write the words on the top" were not followed. I don't know how much more clear you can make an instruction. I'm glad you checked your email to make sure you didn't just forget, and this was clear on them, because there is just no way this is acceptable for $250. If 1 star bakery can do as much as they did, 3 star should have been an elevation above that.

  • @julianiheartbreak
    @julianiheartbreak 5 months ago +830

    100% agreed with Cake Twink. If I paid $200 for a cake and they just called it a day after making a fondant dog that wasn't even intact I'd demand a refund. For a wedding too! Imagine expecting flowers and color- just *anything*, and that's what you got.

  • @archangelmichael9415
    @archangelmichael9415 5 months ago +41

    I'm on Twink's side tbh. I value effort more than outcome especially in those circumstances. I can appreciate someone who was dedicated to giving me what I asked for even with mistakes in the execution rather than someone who ignored more than half of my requests that were supposedly included in the price. $250 for a plain cake with a cracked dog sculpture is borderline scamming.

    18:32 - IDK I might be #TeamTwink on this one. The 3 star cake gives me vibes like there was an OG cake that went through some sort of disaster and the bakery had to scramble and try and make a 2nd cake, but they didn't have time to redo any flowers, colour additional buttercream for details or any fancy pipping or to make a new dog so they tried to rescue what they had and added it to a cake that was barely crumb coated and then covered in the last hour. The 1 star doesn't look like an afterthought, it just looks amateurish, but at least it hit all the prompts.

    I have to agree with CakeTwink, I'd be way more angry that someone ignored 4/5 instructions and gave me what looks like a lazy double sheet cake versus the messy 1 star that mostly hit all the points. I think they both deserve 1 star. Likely from a baker perspective, you want to be more lenient with the 3 star cake because it's plain enough to just add your own decorations. So it comes across as a blank slate.
    If I want a blank slate, I'll just buy a supermarket sheet cake and call it good. At least they'd give me flowers!

    I think the appearance of the colorful 1-star cake would be much more palatable to people who aren’t already cake artists because they fulfilled the prompts. So I’m definitely TEAM TWINK.

    If I were someone that actually ordered these cakes for my wedding and I received the second one I would be absolutely pissed. And the fact that it cost MORE than the other one for less detail? Hard no. The one star cake, at least it would look better for photographs and just overall is way more fun, and as other people have stated it fulfills the parameters that were given. I understand as a baker you look more at the quality of an item closely, but as your average buyer, I would have much fonder memories of the first cake than the second and at the end of the day isn’t that what matters?

    • @Aurirang
      @Aurirang 4 months ago +9

      The first one at leats looked like they've made an honest attempt. Yes, alot of things are a bit off, crooked and imperectly done, but it looked cute enough.
      The second one is a hard pass. I'd probably be walking up to that shop and tossing the cake into the managers face.

    I agree with Cake Twink, the 3 star bakery should have had more marks taken off because they didn’t give you anything you asked for. Although the 1 star wasn’t amazing, at least they tried to do everything 🥰

  • @BeautyMonster1000
    @BeautyMonster1000 5 months ago +7

    I agree with Cake Twink about the cakes. The plain cake was just that, plain, which wasn't what you asked for at all. Yes, the dog was cute but that's not enough considering how much other stuff you asked for that wasn't fulfilled with that cake. At least the other one was made by people who were trying to follow your prompt. They put in more effort than the other bakery to actually give you what you asked for and that's more important than a single design element being very well done on the other cake in my opinion.

      Even a grocery store bakery wouldn't forget to level the layers. A plastic toy dog is a no-no, because people would be expected to be able to eat the dog. [I made an exception for my grandson's fifth birthday cake, because he wanted aquanaut figurines and there was plenty of supervision to remove the toys before the cake was cut]

    All I can say is I have massive respect for cake makers. My mother spent the summer practicing the perfect recipie for my sister's wedding cake. Her best friend had made both my and my other sister's cake, so she had people to help in the process. When making it, one layer just didn't bake right so she had to redo it. She was willing to do the last parts of the decorating, but decided to be able to enjoy the day to pay someone to finish it and put it together on the day of the wedding. The bride's cake came out perfect with ruffles of icing and flowers. Simple but elegant. The groom's cake, a requirement for our family because the chocolate recipie is so fantastic, was made even more perfect by the small additions the designer added on. We had a tie fighter on the top, so she designed each layer under to look as if it were in space. Watching all the processes I see why experience matters, and why cost plays such a role. Although I am very tired of eating sweets now with all the tests we did, those tests ensured the cake was moist and the flavors popped. Cake making, especially wedding cakes, require talent, vision, and determination. Mad props to those that attempt it. And yes a bake off would be hilarious. :)

    I feel like there’s a bit of cake-flation happening on RUclips. We see so many stunning cakes, it’s easy to forget how hard it is to make even a simple cake. I felt this a lot when Stephen looked at the 1 star cake and felt he could make it. I’d love to see a video where you go head to head and each make the same simple cake. TEAM TWINK !!! 2nd cake didn't fulfill A LOTTT of the criteria, the big dog doesn't make up for it. I would be embarrassed if that was my wedding cake because it looks like it had nothing to do with a wedding like literally a white cake and a dog?? It doesn't give wedding at all. 1st cake at least has the flowers and other COLOURS which is FARR way better than the 2nd one.

      Too often, the impulse with pets who have passed is to stop talking about them, but they deserve to be remembered just like anyone else and their species has no bearing on your grief.
