Yeah I'm the same way, after I quit drinking I just can't be around it anymore. Same with smoking. I used to be a hard drinker and hard smoker but after I quit it's just obnoxious to be around now. I feel bad sometimes cuz now I know how I must have been around other people. Oh well, can't go back, only forward. Stay warm tonight, it's going to be a cold one. 👍
Cigarettes smoke I hate and I also used to smoke. I can smell it a mile away even when someone's smoking inside their car I smell it when they drive by
@Rico Suave I wish you could have convinced my dad to stop drinking and smoking as it took one of his legs and got gangrene in the othrr and refused to have that one amputated so the gangrene poisoned his body, his heavy smoking along with the heavy drinking destroyed his blood vessels in legs and cut off all the circulation,he passed away 5 yrs ago...so happy you were able to stop smoking
I quit a year ago when the covid killa came around. I vape ecigs. I still get my nicotine but no tar or smoke. I know alot of people talk bad about vaping but I can smell now, I don't cough anymore. Just feel better. I'm a fellow Army Vet Shoestring, 19Delta here. And I admire your fun. Camping, dodging, and surviving. All while admiring our country. A true American.
@robert mccabe I can only say what worked for me.A.A. meetings and staying away from old haunts. It's just worked for 30 years but I'm still working on it.Good luck.It will work if you really want to stay sober.
Shoestring, would you ever consider making a video about some of the spooky encounter's you've had while traveling? Ghosts, aliens, bigfeet, crackheads. Those sorts of things
Wish I was younger; I might try hoboing myself. Thanks for giving an old man dreams, and a thought, just a thought, of maybe I still could. When I was seven, I found an old man laying in the bushes in the woods near my home. I asked him if he was hungry. He quietly said, yes. I went home and put a couple carrots and potatoes in an empty plastic Wonderbread bag. I didn't think how he might cook them. He looked at them; rolled them around in his hand; said thanks. When I got home, I told mother what I had done and I got a good tongue lashing. So much for the Sermon On The Mount she taught us kids.
You know I'm watching your video while in the background here where I live I'm hearing a train blowing it's horn in the back ground , fits rite in , Ha thanks .
I agree with you myfriend, when I smell the booze sweatin out of somebody I feel bad for them and it makes me uneasy.I dont judge I just feel bad because I used to drink real heavy myself.
Same here. I quit drinking 5 years ago. I smell it on somebody's breath 10 feet away. Its rather nauseating. The worst part is the "conversation". People who drink never shut up long enough to allow a word in edgewise. God bless them. But for the grace of God, go I.
I sleep good when I'm riding and know it's gonna be all night running. Always be ready, You can tell the newbees from them being all unpacked. Tramp, Hobo, Bum.... One more "Bushwacker" Out there living off others, Highway robbers. Now many years, but at one time I just plain simple got tired of drinking and stopped. Life is tough enough without drinking... Dang it, I miss it. (riding)
I'm the same way. Just got tired of it. I will have an ice cold beer on a hot summer day, but no more than that. Years later I just got tired of smoking and gave that up too. That was actually harder than the drinking.
Shoestring thanks so much for your videos. I know you are a busy guy and might not get time to read this but I wanted to let you know that your videos are inspiring to me and bring me comfort. Your storytelling and rail knowledge is extraordinary, I feel as if I am on the adventure with you. I quit drinking in 2014 and It is great to see someone else that has had the strength to. Keep sharing knowledge and stories, I tend to watch these at night to help me relax. I have an affinity for exploring, trains, maps and graffiti/rail knowledge so thank you for everything you do.
