I was literally just thinking about whether Bo could solve a Rubik's cube and I found this. I'm not even joking. Literally 5 minutes ago I wanted to know whether he could solve them and then this popped up on my feed...freaky
For the people that are saying they can do it quickly, just remember Bo was rapping so he couldn't put all his focus on solving it, he also has to do the rap.
In case you were wondering, solving a Rubik's cube, at least the way he does it, doesn't require any mathematical knowledge, just a good memory, which he must have in order to remember all of his songs and raps as well as he does.
I think the impressive part is he times it with the finish of his song. It's not the speed at which he solves the cube, it's that he knew how much playing around he could do with it before actually solving it.
He's a comedian not a championship rubiks cube solver, and solving it in about three minutes while rapping and looking up and around is still pretty good.
I started solving mine at the same time as bo, when I finished I still had a minute 10 seconds left of the video. But I wasn't rapping at the same time, props to him
Well, he wrote them.. So it can't be that hard to remember them. I just started watching him a year ago and I can recite his songs/raps forward and backwards without music.
Well he also did it will doing a long rap from memory and interacting with people in front of a huge audience, also solving it just about in the same time he expected to finish the song.
***** Let me just ask you really quick...How much of your life do you spend watching TV, browsing youtube or facebook, laying in bed, etc etc....you know, pointless things? I like to use some of my spare time to solve puzzles. When you can solve a 3x3 cube in ~20 seconds on average, doing 3000 solves doesn't take a very long time. 90% of my time is used working towards getting my masters degree in physics, and doing research in materials science. So yeah...I don't have much spare time, and I find that solving puzzles is relaxing. My original comment was just a response to the plethora of comments that were amazed that he could solve a rubiks cube while speaking, which contributes nothing to the difficulty of solving it. Just trying to help dispel of some ignorance.
You can muscle memorize rubiks cubes. I haven't solved one in two years but i guarantee if someone handed me one I could solve it based solely on muscle memorized algorithms. I'm a musician so I could most likely tie that with a rap like that. It would take some practice but I could get it eventually. Doing it in front of a whole crowd so casually though is what makes Bo so much better.
As someone who knows how to solve it, I can tell you that yes you do need math to solve it, you need to learn algorithms/specific patterns. But it's not hard to do once you got the hang of it, so I'm not surprised that he could do it while on stage/rapping
Knowledge of algorithms is not what leads to being able to do a Rubik's cube without looking. It is the ability to predict how the various cubies will be positioned after you perform your various moves. Also, algorithms do not really require math. All they require is memorizing a series of moves. I don't mean to degrade what Bo is doing in the video, it is very impressive. I just don't want people to be intimidated by the challenge that is the Rubik's cube because they think it involves math.
Actually, to solve them really fast you do have to know some match equations or something. My friend was telling me about it and I was like, just put the colors on the same side.
Well the solution to a Rubik's* cube is an algorithm; quickly evaluating the starting point then following the right predetermined sequence of rotations might be an exercise in memory, but it is certainly mathematics at its base.
He said that there are people who can do it under 10 seconds, not him. Just because I say, "Lots of people can do back-flips." doesn't mean I can to a back-flip.
@archiefan118 It takes absolutely no math to solve a rubiks cube for one.. and it take him like 2 + minutes, someone who has never touched one could do that. The only thing I am impressed by is the fact that he can keep the beat steady at the same time.
its easy to solve a rubix cube, there are a few movement patterns you need to remember and thats about it. After you do it enough it becomes second nature and it just solves it self.
Left brain plays with toys XD
look at you johnny fucking toy player. i love bo :D
Rubik's cubes are not toys, okay?!
HappyGoPucky they keep my spacial reasoning skills sharp...
Johnny fucking.......TOY PLAYER!

Based on the fact that this is 2009 it’s sort of like a college freshman telling jokes to a bunch of other college students.
If you want a humble comment section, you've come to the wrong place.

illuminati
I mean, he can solve a rubik's cube in a minute-twenty. :D
He should practice more.
he can do it in a minute 20.
how the hell.. that was truly impressive. rapping and doing a rubix cube like that? I don't think I've ever seen someone do that.

Literally just the lyrics are crazy on their own they're so random and creative

"There is a railroad underground. Platform 9 and 3 quarters." I love Bo!
as if it wasn't clear already that he's super fucking intelligent
ok seriously doing the rubics cube during a show just makes me love him more. so genius.
He just took lyrics from nearly all his rap songs and bunched them together. I love it
The rap is called Bo Fo' Sho'
Bo Fo Sho

"HEHEHE" -Bo Burnham.
Holy. Crap. bo is an inspiration to me. being a fellow comedian I look up to him so much i get whip lash.
the little leg dancy thing at 3:03 like if u agree
dude he's beast. listend to pretty much all of his stuff

It has now been 10 years for you but it's been a month since I found him and can do the exact same thing
Common misconception: solving a rubik's cube is difficult. Common misconception #2: solving a rubik's cube while talking is difficult
you do it
I've only done it around ~3000 times, is that enough for you bud
sigalig no.

Seventh grade, woo!
FALSE, Eighth Grade.
A priest solved your 11-year-old brother in 40 seconds.
Oh, Bo!
Nearly went deaf at the end. Thank fuck I didn't have my volume any louder than what it was
nearly went blind.... then I scrolled down and couldn't see your picture any more
EliteSniperTV Nice avi lmao
I just watched men and women aladdin, where he used the say hi to 1998 joke as well.
It's more about memorizing patterns and how to resolve them, as far as I've seen from my friends.
How does he even....
I love rubic's cubes my record is a minute 15 seconds. I also like bo burnham so this comment is relevant.
Rubik's*
Thanks, phew. If you didn't catch that I don't know what I would have done.

I love how when he was talking about the Underground Railroad he added in how he know the way, 9 3/4. Amazingnessssss.
Bo fo sho in the fetus stage
Reading the name of the city off of his palm is very FOTC. I love it.
And you are furthering the conversation.
Bo is amazing
My personal best is 32 seconds. I keep getting 33 seconds a bunch of times I can't seem to beat it.
How low did you get it?
deffinately the sickest version of this song, and all cause of the rubik's cube! GO RUBIK!!
wow. he..is...something else. i lvoe him with all my heart
To solve a rubic's cube you have to use algorithms. Algorithms are simply the steps that you need to take to get from point A to point B.
freakin bo i just tried to solve it and rap at the same time but i...couldnt......
As someone who knows how to solve it, I can tell you that yes you do need math to solve it, you need to learn algorithms/specific patterns. But it's not hard to do once you got the hang of it, so I'm not surprised that he could do it while on stage/rapping
this is actually just a clip of Bo solving a Rubik's cube while rapping 'I'm Bo Fo Sho'
"What did you say with your scarf indoors? Say 'hi' to 1998 for me."
hahaha
@TheClutchHero he can move the cube pretty much back and forth like one move away from solving with out anyone really noticing
Seriously funny =) Whilst I can solve a Rubik's cube quickly, I could never do something as awesome as this.
thiiiiiiiNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGggggggs LIKE A TAmpon thief I had to pull some fucking strings

Beautiful
@bfmvfan4 no, it is a rap and he was solving the rubiks cube while rapping.
He can actually do it in a minute twenty when NOT rapping and focusing on it completly
can someone add subtitles lol?
NO I WANTED TO DO THIS BEFORE SEEING THIS TO ONE OF HIS SONGS
Rubik's cubes are not about math... Just memorizing algorithms to the point where they are second nature.
why is this conversation not in the top comments?
Really speaks to the intelligence of the audience when nobody really laughed untill he made a poop joke.
you probably cant tell from this video but during this rap, Bo was also negotiating foreign relations with China.
I love the Harry Potter references he seems to make a lot of those
He said that there are people who can do it under 10 seconds, not him.
Just because I say, "Lots of people can do back-flips." doesn't mean I can to a back-flip.

@millermanX2010 He said "The walls are thick"
f#cking brilliant.
@boddydaboss - he was trying to keep it on pace to finish right as the rap ended.
Logic, eat your heart out.
It's just certain movements used at the right point to solve it in layers, there is no maths involved at all just problem solving
now i know why i always wanted to go to this college
The patterns are called Algorithms! :)
i wonder who in the audience got that rubiks cube straight in the eye
I will listen to a Bo rap and usually understand a new thing time :)
"blowing up like you thought i would"- juicy by biggie smalls aka Notorious BIG
Lmao I've seen this in almost every live performance of him. Criticize him and he'll tear you to shreds. Cx
Was I the only one who felt an awkward silence when he started rapping?
Don't need it, however using algorithms makes it MUCH easier.
yo. this is bo fo sho.
@pletta17 lol im pretty sure its titled that way because hes doing a rubiks cube while hes doing the rap
Crazy bo fact... his song “little adolf” is on RUclips kids.... no bs.
