    Great video! Were you going to choose uchicago if you were not given the financial aid? What other colleges you got accepted to? Did all of them offer financial aid? I am trying to figure out the power of the financial aid package in the decision making process (college selection). Thanks!

    My parents make enough to point where I wouldn’t get any financial aid from any college, but although they can afford it they are giving me a loan and I am paying for college myself because I want to and that’s how I was raised. Would I still get financial aid if my families contribution was low but income was high?

      That's something you'd have to talk to the financial aid office about since it may differ per school. But since you'd be filed under your parents as dependent with taxes, I'm pretty confident they'd base your financial aid package on your family's income! But definitely shoot the financial aid office an email with your situation once you get your acceptance letters, they're usually great about working with students!
      P.S. Financial Aid differs from school to school, I know with UChicago this year they promised a full 100% package to anyone who's family makes less than 125k (and it depends on many factors such as whether you have siblings, etc.) so you might be surprised with how generous financial aid can be! Most people who require it qualify at most schools who have funding! :)

    It's insane to me that people will pay $200K for college, and not even be able to do what they're going to college for until they get out of school. Like you have bartenders making $10hr + tips who are going to school to be doctors... Like why don't they get to work in the industry they're going to school for and be able to make good money while learning what they eventually will be doing when they graduate? I paid $900 one time, to learn digital marketing online and immediately was able to start working while I was learning and made $200K in my first year just learning and using what I was learning for 2hrs a day, 5 days a week. I don't know, it makes no sense to me to pay for college when you can just pay for access to a online community that will teach you everything you need to know to be successful and you can immediately implement what you learn. To each their own I guess 🤷

    Do you know if uchicago gives the same financial aid to ED accepted applicants as they would to RD? I really want to apply ED but I've heard some colleges give less aid to those who apply early.

    • @TheAlmostAstrophysicist
      @TheAlmostAstrophysicist  4 года назад +3

      Great question! Financial aid at UChicago wouldn't differ whether you're applying ED or RD. I'd really recommend applying ED because the acceptance rate is MUCH higher compared to RD (which is almost certainly going to be under 3%). Financial aid's given to 100% of those who need it regardless of the cycle they apply in because UChicago is a 100% Meet Need school. Good luck applying! Hope my videos help. :)

      @@TheAlmostAstrophysicist thank you!!! Your videos help a lot! I have another question about uchicago if you don't mind me asking: If I'm not ready to submit my application by ED I, do you think applying ED II will give me a better chance as opposed to RD?

    Does uchicago provide full rides to students under $65,000/yr as they claim to?

    • @TheAlmostAstrophysicist
      @TheAlmostAstrophysicist  4 года назад +2

      Great question - yes they do! They are one of the best schools I've come across regarding financial aid. This year, they actually promised a full ride to families making 125k and below. :) And that'll be the case every year moving forward too.

    Do you know if i could get financial aid as well if im a transfer international student?

    • @jmp2586
      @jmp2586 6 месяцев назад

      I'm not her, but I study a lot about studying abroad. Basically, most of the financial aid is destined to American students or equivalent (undocumented, DACA, green card, permanent resident). For transfer students, it's even harder, especially if you're not studying at an American community College. Only very elite universities would offer financial aid for transfer international students. You have basically three options: finishing your degree in your home country and coming to the us as an international grad student, study abroad elsewhere or transfer, knowing that you probably won't get that much financing.

      Also, I've seen now that your comment is one year old... I apologize if it's not helpful for you anymore.

    • @jmp2586
      @jmp2586 6 месяцев назад

      If it brings you hope, it's not uncommon for international students to get a full ride for phds programs and you can go to many phd programs without a masters degree. If you prepare for it right now, your chances will be higher.
