an honest review of Doobydobap's Mija Seoul

- although we didn't particularly love how the food tasted, eating at doobydobap's mija seoul was such a dream and we would definitely come again for the ~vibes~ and to see what other dishes kevin, tina, and the team end up creating
to make a reservation (they go out fast!), go to: shor.by/mijaseoul
update: kevin and tina are closing the restaurant (explanation in a video on her channel). very sad that the place is closing so soon but understand that it was a very hard decision for them to make and will always be grateful that we had the opportunity to dine there :)
Wonder if her fans are “salty”
@@sevenhundred77 I’ll let someone else explain
@@sevenhundred77 Don't mind that person, I've seen this person commenting in other people's youtube videos😅
@@elysahbacnutan4673 Maybe if this person watched those other videos and read the comments from others, then this person would understand.
@@sevenhundred77 Can’t help if this person is DENSE
I’m surprised she made a restaurant focused on fine dining when her whole online persona is about comfort food. No wonder the food was, dare I say it… Seoul-less 😂
oop
Well her boyfriend is a fine dine chef so it makes sense
@@Dandelionn728 he clearly sucks at his job though
She has lots of videos about her creating the restaurant. If you haven’t seen them, it would make sense you don’t understand. I am a Dooby fan but I also don’t think bashing people online over something you don’t understand is cool so I am salty
It looks like it's actually her boyfriend's restaurant she is just for advertising I guess
guy looks like he is struggling throughout the whole meal LMAO
I really thought that she will have this homey food to share but it seems like they focused on edgy food. The disconnect between her food vids and restaurant food set up her customers and viewers leaving wanting.
100% accurate to how we felt afterwards
i think its because of her boyfriend hes a fine dining chef
It seems more like a multiple course restaurant than edgy. It’s only edgy if you are edgy, it could be very laid back if the person going there was laid back. They didn’t advertise it falsely, the videos they show of the restaurant are exactly they same level of culinary craft I saw here. I’ve seen a handful of her videos from the restaurant, so I didnt expect it to be like her vlogs since I knew that it wasn’t a restaurant that embodied her vlogs but one she created to be something different from that.
@@drea2280 yeah this seems like mainly her boyfriend/husband’s restaurant
Her bf is also a part of the team and hes a fine dining chef
i always thought her restaurant would be more homely and personal because of the food/culture she makes and shares on social media. but every time i watch a review of her restaurant, it makes me feel so disconnected?? but maybe thats just me for not really having an interest in "hard to reserve," high scale, small portion places lol
totally agree. there’s definitely a gap between the food she makes in videos vs. at mija, which is unfortunate since the food she shares online is really what entices most people to try the restaurant
im pretty sure it is due to her boyfriend who studied fine dining/culinary arts, but i agree completely with you
I’ve seen a handful of her videos from the restaurant, so I didnt expect it to be like her vlogs since I knew that it wasn’t a restaurant that embodied her vlogs but one she created to be something different from that. It looks connecting to me cause I have seen her videos working hard to create it and I don’t find multiple course restaurants to be uptight since they are for a higher culinary experience more than they are for fancy and uptight people
Same I am her for most of the part a regular viewer, I won't say I am a fan or anything beacuse I just don't belive in that culture? It's just often disappointing to watch the reviews and too also feel a gap, the way her vibe is on social media her food feels off, off in a way like I know high end fancy restaurant exist and it's good that you want it but it too does not feel proper in that genre as most of the time people say it's not fulfilling or tasted good, espically given the high price
Dude give it a rest. We know you are a fan of hers but no need to be defending her like she is paying you under veery comment. @@sevenhundred77
From what i know, is that her boyfriends background is in fine dining, that's why this restaurant is probably catered like that. Since they opened up the restaurant together.
this, as well as the fact that in her videos dooby has also shown the homely aspects of both the layout of the restaurant and the processes they've used in achieving the menu.
i appreciate honest reviews but i also tend to believe this was purely for the views and if you're going in there searching for reasons to hate on someone's hard work, i think she should've gone somewhere else
@@jessicad57she literally said it was her dream to come to this restaurant and she would come again to try another season's menu or to check if it was an off day. she also said in the video that she was trying so hard to find things she liked about the food because she wanted to visit so badly. I really don't think she did a bad review on purpose, sometimes people make bad food.
@@jessicad57 damn understand the meaning of hate first of all 💀 then use it.
This is my two cents: my partner and I dined at Mija Seoul in December 2024. We actually loved it! Not every dish was to our taste, but we expected that going in since it was a multi course tasting menu. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming, and the staff was fantastic. I always find it interesting how people can have very different experiences of the same food! (Most of our dishes were different to yours, but, in general, I think it’s fair to say people have different tastes.) Anyway, I enjoyed the video and hearing about your experience! 😊
for sure! glad to hear you both had a different experience :)
My friend and I also went in December and loved our experience, goes to show how subjective food is
December 2024?
2023* 😊
I think this review is fair. Apologize that I can't remember, but there is this other very famous Michelin restaurant that sort of has a disclaimer saying they will make food you probably won't like. It's just because they want to do something so different that not everyone will enjoy it. I get the feeling of wanting to like something you just don't. I really enjoy Dooby's videos, but even though we will visit Korea soon her restaurant is 1) too far away from where will be 2) not exactly the experience I'm looking for.
I think what they're doing is super awesome. Great review.
"disclaimer saying they will make food you probably won't like." That's so pretentious lol, don't bother dining here peasant because your tastebuds probably aren't refined enough.
That water broth with that slice of onions is ridiculous. Nothing fancy about that.
yeah when that came out, we got a bit nervous about what else was coming
I think the customer will get a more complex flavor if they steep my socks and a whole onion in hot water.
Thanks for being honest its pretty rare when it comes to influencer stuff
thank you! trying to do our part in keeping it real haha
So, really not worth the hype
unfortunately, yes. right after we left, all I could think was truly “not everything meets the eye.” the food dooby shares on the internet looks beautiful and super flavorful, but the meal I had at mija looked great but lacked in pretty much every other regard of what makes great food.
honestly, I really would only go again to give this spot a second chance (since they demonstrated creativity and showed exceptional hospitality). hopefully with more time and feedback, they’ll be able to refine their food and it’ll actually be worth the hype (and $60 haha)
stop trying to justify it. If its poop, its poop. @@wifimeagan

Everyone has their own tastes. When I go to a restaurant, I don’t expect the food to be to my tastes. I would just eat my meal, enjoy the experience even if I didn’t like everything, and be respectful and civil. Thank the people for the food, leave, and don’t bash them later online.
Honestly all i see is dooby’s boyfriend’s influence from Mija’s reviews so far and it strays from her original content which was what drew me to her originally
I was just about to say this, it feels more like her bf’s restaurant with her image slapped on top. Personally I would rather have her kimchi then what they ate.
Thought the same she should launch her own thing with a more homely feel this was bound to fail
Pretty sure dooby tried the menu items before the launch so… she wanted to feed y’all that overpriced food 💀
To put into context. Gordon Ramsay's tasting menu is 200 USD. This YTer chef wannabe charges 150USD. Now you know why the place failed. The guy looks like he is either going to commit seppuku for spending that cash on bland food or drawing out a sword and do a banzai charge.
It only cost like 60-70 usd what are you on about.
Lmfaoo the faces both of ya’ll make every time a new dish arrives 🤣🤣
also went there not too long ago a bit disappointed:( but I could see why other people might like it!
whoopsies
Its the onion with some juice that would’ve pissed me off 😂
that was a red flag
That's not a course it's starvation.
And it’s cold soup also 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
exactly, like what was that?

As a non-Korean, seeing your reactions while eating the food, I probably would be more excited eating at S.Korea's 7/11. 😂
Tbh didn't know about this place when living in Seoul. Don't think I missed out, was busy filling my belly on pork belly (and hangover soup in the morning...)
7/11 is now a japanese company so i bet its good.
the interior design does not watch the music, which doesn't match the food, which doesn't match the interior design 😭😭😭 it's no wonder this place closed down
Your review obviously foreshadowed the closing of Mija. 😢 Thanks for sharing your experience (and disappointment). I think I spared myself the same letdown after seeing their closing video.
I hope they come back with a Korean comfort food theme if they try again. All of Dooby’s dishes look so appetizing to me.
idk why but i got so nervous when your boyfriend ate the food.. he seems like a more honest critic HAHA but thank you for the review!
LOL favorite comment
I love the honesty
Your skin looks so healthy and pretty!!
omg thank you!! 🥺
It's nice to see a new channel - and I appreciate that y'all were honest about the review
thank you!
I'm going there next week!! Still so so excited ahhhh thanks for the review:)
They should have focused on highlighting the sustainable ingredients and mastered the dishes with few offerings rather than focus on fine dining and pairing with lots of dishes
I visited them back in November with my family and we had a very different experience to you guys!
Our dishes overall were super full of flavour- to the point we had to keep getting our glasses filled with water so we could try and cleanse our palette before the next course which came through within 10 minutes of us finishing our previous one.
sad to see the food wasn’t as good as you anticipated🥲
ah maybe we came on an off day. it's good to hear that you had a better experience :)
They changed the menu, right?
Maybe that's why.
People who went last year had a better experience. Probably because they had just opened. Standards tend to drop afterwards. It's normal.
Omg you are Filipino like me! I want to visit the restaurant when I go to S. korea but I’ve been seeing not so good reviews about the place. Thanks for the review.
omg! yes hindi masarap 😂
@@wifimeagan Lol'd at this! I guess speaking Tagalog brings out the honesty. 😆
ever since the resto opened i've been checking out review vlogs every now and then because i have always been curious about the experience and seeing this (and a few others) just confirmed to me that maybe theres a specific food palette that their course meals (??) is suited for along with the variety of korean alcohol djdhdh this is really insightful though, thank you for this!
yes mija seems to be going for more of a fine dining experience where drink pairing is very important - but also not sure why drinks cost extra if it’s so important to the meal as a whole in the first place
@@wifimeagan cuz they want money
Of course they will want money. It's a business, not a soup kitchen
Of course drinks cost extra LOL what. That is standard in most fine dining places and can cost up to two thirds of the chef's degustation
I think my wording was confusing, but what I meant was that maybe the drinks shouldn't be optional since the dishes are sub par standalone@@carolineauch
I really appreciate the honest review! Id honestly love to see more content like this! Your vibes 10/10

thank you for this review, its so interesting!
thank you for watching! and yes, I was definitely surprised
Hope you blow up, loving your channel so far. I wanted to see a review thank you for being honest. ❤
thank you so much! your comment means everything ❤
The portions are so tiny it’s sad just watching it
poor dude he looked tortured 😭
I never felt so unimpressed in a food video before haha
I mean, she has to do fine dining because her boyfriend is a chef. I bet if it weren't for him, she would have definitely put up a cafe or any casual dining instead.
Lol wtf just because he’s a chef doesn’t mean she “had” to go into fine dining. She could’ve just went into something that she’s more familiar with but instead created a bland and flat fine dining restaurant that’s only working out because she’s the face behind it. Just because Kevin has worked in fine dining before doesn’t mean he’s too good to cook non fine dining cuisine and there’s TONS of chefs who’ve done the same. This decision to go into fine dining wasn’t because of Kevin.
I genuinely don’t understand people saying that dooby decided to open a fine dining restaurant just because her BF has experience in fine dining. Just because he’s worked in fine dining doesn’t mean he’s only capable of making fine dining food and the decision was ultimately made by her since I’m sure she’s the main one funding the restaurant. There’s TONS of chefs who go working into fine dining and end up working at a more casual place. Also Dooby herself as a creator is so contradicting and completely out of touch I cannot stand some of her tone deaf videos. Mija seoul’s dishes look so pedestrian and it feels like they just rushed the opening just to keep the hype alive with her die hard fans. This place only works because of the celebrity behind the restaurant.
How are her videos tone deaf?
Went there in November, 2023. Me and my sister loved it!
❤love the straight honesty 👏🏽✨❤
I really love dooby but some of vids she talks about how she loves home meals over fancy gourmet 9 course meals. Her portions were very tiny and for $90... thats crazy expensive considering she says she grows most of the stuffs herself. In my currency it sums up to rm418 per person... for comparison, cheapest coldplay concert ticket was 228... Dooby is contradicting herself lately 😭🥲😅
Edit: thank you for the honest review!
Lol taste aside- farm to table should cost more, it takes more time to do your own organic produce, SF restaurants that do farm to table are incredible
@@user-ty4wx9yh6l ohh.. i thought it would be cheaper.. if really so, than i retract my statement. However it is still overpriced.
The music doesn't go with the food
yes, this is true. the music was conflicting and had us a bit confused
i can hear tiktok music i swear ...
ngl that onion dish really pissed me off for a place like that
i feel like they’re trying way too hard to highlight the seasonal ingredients in a “different” and “edgy” way to the point when the whole meal is just the 1 seasonal ingredient and sauce or whatever😭 which would be fine ig if it the price wasn’t so ridiculous for what you’re getting. in the end, the food just comes across as a bit pretentious
totally agree with you :(
She serves gourmet food, but she cooks regular food we eat. that doesn't match at all. all this food is chosen by her, but not made by her.
Although she has closed down the restaurant now but literally from the beginning i thought the menu will include all the recipes she show us in the shorts and i was so excited bcz i have been following her channel since the beginning but i was kinda disappointed or sad whatever like why wouldn't she included those food items is something wrong with her? The restaurant would be a hit if the menu include those recipes instead of this 9 course meal very disappointed
Ohh Filipino ka HAHAHA magtatagalog na siguro ako and will give my straight opinion based on watching her countless vids.
I think expected din yung pagsara nung restau kaya ayun. Tinagalog ko na baka atakihin ako nung mga diehard fans hahaha, well fan din naman ako pero this is my unbiased opinion.
The onion and cider is weird
Thanks for a very honest review!
of course, and thanks for the support! :)
When it comes to Korean foods, it's all about the big amount and the various side dishes but like those foods.. i've never seen any foods like that before, quite unnecessarily experimental. they don't tingle my Korean taste buds
I haven't seen much of doobydobap's content recently but since seeing her stuff back in 2020/2021, I imagine she's got even more popular. Though it's a shame her restaurant isn't good, people will still go because of her name and who she is
The restaurant closed down.
bruh id rather eat at a hot plate or shabu shabu restaurant
I believe your review was honest and very well manner. The focus was on the food, presentation, service and ambience. Did you do any research prior on the type of food they were serving or was this based on blind faith, since you were a fan of her channel?
Just some background about you and your guest, have you guys ever dine at Thomas Keller French Laundry in CA? And what's you and your guest affiliation in culinary?Just curious. Thanks.
So cute!❤️
thank you! ❤️
Im not sure if it'd be a good or bad experience for me, everything on the menu seems like food I like, so maybe I'll still try it. I heard its all right from their garden and they sell hard on their "taste the natural ingredients", I quite like milder flavours and herbs.
sounds like you should definitely give it a try! there’s also a new menu for each season, so if this one didn’t convince you maybe the next ones will :)
You guises reaction are so honest lol esp the guy hahaha
I’ve been curious abt mija seoul if its worth it or just the hype. Thank you for this!
of course! glad the video was helpful :)
Pleasantly surprised at the price, $60 for fine dining + $30 for drinks is on the lower end (although still rlly expensive for my cheap ass lmao). I’ve see one of her vids going through each course and that one seemed appetizing to me so hopefully this experience is just a fluke cause of the new menu lols. Anyways, what I’m most curious about is if this kind of meal leaves you full or not 👀
enjoyed it.
Every time a new item came out I felt like screaming at how ridiculous it was
So dooby attracted people to her channel because of comfort food and generous portions of delicious-looking dishes and she starts a restaurant serving these instead?? 😂 Yeah, it’s no wonder this business failed..
that's rough, i would really think if she sticked with comfort food she'd do better than fine dining...
hope you guys have a nice time in korea! i wanted to go bc i like dooby but personally, the food doesn’t look that special and i won’t be going anymore, thanks for the review :)
thank you! happy to hear that the review helped :)
thanks for being honest. this is a message for TINA! change the menu! lol
It’s not surprising that the restaurant isn’t sustainable. This just doesn’t make sense
I wish I lived in Seoul to be able to go to her restaurant. It would be my first stop if/when I visit South Korea.
Great review. I appreciate that you tried to be fair, even charitable with some dishes.
I know for me, everything boils down to: do I enjoy this as much or more than a homemade sinigang baboy and leche flan? If not, it feels like a waste of money. 😂
such high standards!! leche flan will always be my number 1 haha
Fine dining price and that many servings, I think $60 is cheap. I do think if they should focus on food tasting versus trying to be creative and edgy.
I mean considering it’s in S.K., it’s probably not that cheap when you compare to won

Baby.... im really sorry but your caption is not matching your face at all 😂 and i really think your rating is too nice compared to your face
Looks like that menu and restaurant isn't really HER. It's him and it didn't work.
I’m no fine dining connoisseur but the best fine dining Asian restaurants in the world don’t just focus on one type of Asian cuisine. They sell the best dishes (that complement each other) from every Asian country, satisfying the palette in every way.
Thanks for honesty.
All of the reviews ive seen of her resturant never show her working. Does she not work there?
I believe she stepped back from working on the restaurant to focus on content creation
That's why the only "celeb" restaurant I'm tryna pull up to is Hamburger America. George motz is actually on the line flipping those mfs himself lmao
Thanks for staying so objective. Most people are so influenced around the hype and notoriety of influencers, they can't even see straight. Good job. 👍

Hey, thanks the helpful review. We will have to visit this restaurant, too!
Honestly the only thing that gave me doobydobap vibes was the interior & alcohol. It looks good but wasn’t what I expected from her.
She has a restaurant????🌚
What onion was that omg!
I think it’s just a pearl onion but not 100% sure haha
I like doobydoobap's videos and her charm, but I'm gonna say that the courses of this meal really do not look appealing at all 😅 which I was quite shocked about...
Thank you for sharing your experience and the very honest thoughts on it with us!! Your video is wonderful and I love the vibe and pace🥰
thank you so much! :’) (and i was quite shocked too haha)
Yeah the plating was uninspiring tbh
Fyi mija has closed permanently 😢
In short it is more of her boyfriend's restaurant, she is just marketing. Nothing wrong with that per see, but the disconnect and USD $60 price is what throws people off.
Food doesn't even look appetizing to me.......maybe for an experience i will go but the amount is ridiculous....and btw love your partner rections😂😂 you both were definitely not enjoying the food😅😅
Mija serves more traditional Korean style dishes with a “modern twist”, so it won’t be as flavorful or taste like western food. It’s more like natural flavors. With that being said, some of the dishes look very small. It’s probably not unique or amazing but it is a dooby experience.
yes this is a good point - many korean dishes tend to be milder than western food so we were mostly comparing to the other meals we had in seoul (which were amazing!). so final take is that mija falls short in comparison to the food you can get throughout the city (other fine dining included) and also has such a high price tag for a pretty mediocre food experience
Yes, everyone has their own tastes
How much did it cost?
60 usd for the 9 courses + an optional 30 usd for the drink pairings

Their 2 reactions I kenot 😂
I agree that food is so-so. Tina is just cashing in on her social media popularity and also creating a job for her boyfriend. Seems like it is just experimental cooking, but unfortunately the flavors are extreme; either tasteless or overly sour. It went out of business???
It doesn’t look good…
This is crazy and disappointing!!!! Even rich people that spend thousands on fine dinner would expect a lot more than whatever this was (ofc bcz they would they know food like experts from the variety of food they usually eat) !! It's so different from what she usually does on her cooking chanel, that's all about hearty comforting meals...I wish the theme could've been like that along with a touch of fine dining. But your fall menu was just...absurd..I can tell that your pockets hurt after this meal and mine would've too!! I understand she's new to the business, but She should definitely improve her customer's experience. I mean the thin slice of onion with...vinegar? I don't know how to feel about this😂. I can only hope not all the menus are like the fall ones.
that food looked horrible
Seems like they did a limited tasting menu because the budget couldnt afford anything else lol
I mean she’s not a chef her boy friends not a chef . You are paying for over hyped noob cooks who haven’t even been in a legit restaurant and paying $60 because a RUclipsr has ad money lol
Her boyfriend is a trained chef who has worked in many restaurants and a Michelin star restaurant. This has been mentioned in her previous videos. That is why he is the mastermind behind the food/menu.
@@AnNguyen-qs3jj yet the food is substandard and has no reputation. I don’t see any signature dishes or awards. He’s a noob and they used RUclips audiences to boost the restaurant for sub par food. You think Gordon Ramsay would be a top dog if his food sucked. He not only trained and won many awards for his chef but also opened his own restaurants before going and winning Michelins. He also didn’t charge $60-100$ for subpar service.
@@sikpig7302And Gordon Ramsey’s restaurants have poor reviews as well, and he has a trash frozen Walmart food line too, so what’s your point exactly?
@@hoesuck2649 literally doesn’t make any sense what you wrote. Gordon’s has chain restaurants and then he has his main restaurants in major cities like London. His main restaurants all have Michelin stars and the chefs that come out of those restaurants own or run major fine dining restaurants that have Michelin stars and awards. So what are you talking about? Please learn how Michelin stars are awarded and kept. Also please get a job so you can experience an actual fine dining environment and then pay for sub par food. $60 for a sub par tasting menu is horrendous.
@@hoesuck2649 please be a better person
The food looks horrible.
For fine dining $60 is nothing. Course menus typically cost $100 to $200. People say they expected cheaper because she makes "soul food", but won't pay attention to Kevin. There is a whole other person who has a passion for cooking too. I get that a lot of people are on the channel for Tina, but it's unfair to randomly insult Kevin when he's working so hard for his dreams. If you really care about Dooby, you would probably encourage her and her boyfriend's relationship and success for their work. Too many of her "fans" insult him for 0 reason.
Not to mention, it's literally 2 people starting a restaurant. If you watched her videos, you'd know how the property owners were trying to take advantage of her. Or how her parents weren't supporting her. Kicking someone with aspirations down, when they're fighting so hard is low. Seeing a group of losers in the comments happily berating her is really cringey. To all the critics, I'd like to see you do anything half as successful in your lifetime as what this girl has accomplished in her mid twenties.
$60 is cheap for fine dining but this doesn’t even compare to most fine dining experiences.
maybe they’re trying to offer fine dining at a more accessible price, but it wasn’t executed well (somehow half of the dishes were monotonous in texture/flavor, wait times were long, waiters didn’t remember that we didn’t order the alcohol pairings, the space was cramped and loud, etc.). I have a lot of admiration for all the hard work that both Kevin and Tina are pouring into the restaurant, but I’m not going to base my review on how much work they put in. plenty of people work hard for their dreams; it’s the execution and final product that matter.
