I own one made by this very blacksmith!!! Please send him my thanks, I use my Kukri on every outdoors trip I make and will be passing this down to my kids when it's time. Great investment to make!
I really like how the video took the comparison right away from western blacksmiths. It shows skills centuries if not millennia old and how these craftsmen work. Very informative and a real pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Ah, yes, those colonialist Western blacksmiths! Damn them! I personally see no difference at all, other than maybe the preference to work sitting down. Working metal is working metal, the tools and techniques don't really vary that much. Just the end result.
This is one of the multiple reasons we must respect our khukuri. It was made from discarded spring steel and, with a lot of effort from a humble kami, becomes that magnificent cutting tool that will outlast us big time. Jai Khukuri !
Damn. That is amazing. Talk about determination, persistence and knowhow. That knife has part of his soul put into it. I will always look at my khukuri with respect, gratitude and amazement.
KHHI makes wonderful blades! I have purchased several of their Kukris and a DBad Preacher Bowie. The craftsmanship and care they put into them is second to none. I plan to buy many more.
I have a Khukuri made by the man in this video, I know because KHHI send the maker's bio with the blade. Excellent knife, and this has been wonderful watching the process by which it was created.
Truly a detailed and minutely crafted piece. Indeed not an easy task of preparing it manually. Hats off to our Kami Brothers for all your hard work. No doubt our Khukuri is of the most famous Knife is the world and its attachment with Gorkhas/Gurkhas’ pride speak of itself.
Wow! I've purchased three kukris, one for each of my sons in law who are both Canadian army veterans and one for myself. Much respect for the Royal Ghurka Regiment and the Nepali people! "Ayo Gorkhali"!
@@alfonsedente9679 He said “don’t”, not “didn’t”. Meaning, that we DID have plenty of blacksmiths in times past in the USA, but today we don’t have very many. Even today’s knife makers in the USA don’t do things at the primitive level shown in this video. If the economy should collapse and there is no more electricity and scarce fuel, this skill will be VERY VERY valuable.
Their are a few of us in America who do try to use old traditions in crafting . I personally like to mix in native american practices in makeing bows n arrows for example . ( and no im not native american i just apperciate knowing old techniques)
AH! Only a true artist can make a true masterpiece, and this man and his family are true artists indeed, and the Kukri, a MASTERPIECE! Thank you for this lesson in perfection!
Out of all the kukri making videos, this is the most dedicated one. I think Kailash Blades is excellent, and the oil quench is good. But the water quench here looked pretty spot on as well, and I like the fact that the tang is carefully formed and heated up multiple times in the process, so I'd imagine it to be fully devoid of cracks and weak spots. It doesn't look like a bad process at all.
Oil quench is western bladesmith culture influenced.. not at all what we call the kamismith.. our root and methods have always been this way of making and hardening knives so we prefer to stick to it and promote it..
Absolutely the most immaculate smithy and smith I've ever seen. I've seen people get dirtier working on an Excel spreadsheet. Pretty clearly an exhibition, but the skills are very real, and the years of expertise are obvious. Very nicely done.
^. ^ That was amazing!........I mean Labour intensive .It must have taken 90 hours for him to make that. I still have my khucri that I bought in Nepal...... I use it all the time! Foxy Love fan Scotland VVxx
@@KHHINepal I will purchase one of his blades if you pay him double the going rate he normally gets and he signs his initials in the blade and I get a photograph of him, the creator of such lovely blades should be remembered.
I have 2 full tang ones from them. I gifted one to my brother, and now both are our back country knives. They Clear brush, and chop up firewood no problem, but will even do finer work

Undoubtedly The best Khukuri making video on you tube. Thanks KHHI.
Also thanks for the India Depot.
Can we buy these khukuris in India?
The mark of a true blacksmith , every thing he did is old school and the final result is astounding.
This is one of the multiple reasons we must respect our khukuri. It was made from discarded spring steel and, with a lot of effort from a humble kami, becomes that magnificent cutting tool that will outlast us big time.

Never loose this craft guys, in America we don't have ancient methods or traditions like this. This is precious.
Where do you think the settlers and pioneers got their knifes from?
Walmart?
Spoiler alert:
There were blacksmiths in the old west.
