Love this video Kerry. As a Fibro warrior, all the rushing around on Christmas Day can leave me in a lot of pain. Therefore, I cook my turkey and beef in advance, carve them and freeze them in gravy. I then take them out on Christmas Eve and pop them into slow cookers on Christmas Day. I end up with super soft meat that’s packed full of flavour. I also make and freeze my stuffing balls in advance.
What a brilliant video Kerry, I never realized you could freeze carrots & parsnips without blanching, or even your par boiled potatoes (although I should have lol). I've got my christmas turkey, boxing day roast beef, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets all in the freezer ready to go, I've been organizing for a couple of week, thanks to you, I can get the veg done as well. I've still to buy a ham 🙄.I can't thank you enough for these terrific ideas. Thank you soooo much for sharing xx
Aahh I am so pleased you enjoyed this video and found it useful :) you really can prep almost everything and get them in the freezer so that on the day you can just relax and reheat :) xxx
I like to prep ahead so that I can enjoy the other things (decor, family time) of the holidays too… The only difference I would do is using reusable silicone bags (Elkanah Silicone Freezer Bags-good quality quart size bags-Amazon) for myself and mamma earth😊
These are great ideas. I've had great results par-boiling the potatoes - then fluffing them up and freezing them and roasting them from frozen. I think they actually roast up better than fresh potatoes. I will definitely try freezing the gravy and stuffing this year. I have tried freezing uncooked carrot batons but they go soggy when cooked.
Parsnips and Potatoes prepped, thanks Kerry 👑 I've had to adjust slightly for vegetarian and another diet, so today is a test run 🤞🤞🤞 Wish me luck 🍀🎄✨️
What brilliant ideas! I wouldn’t have thought to prep the veggies and freeze but what a good idea, who wants to be peeling and chopping on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day morning, gives you so much more time with the family! We like to have ‘picky bits’ on Christmas Eve, have you got any ideas for bite size savoury nibbles? Thank you x
Soooooooooo helpful! I thought I was organised by doing the cooking on Christmas Eve and then reheating Christmas Day, but this saves me spending all day cooking Christmas Eve! 🤣🤦♀️ Genius. Never thought to freeze veg, but of course one can. Silly me. 🤣🎄🎅👍🏻 Thank you so much. Have a virtual hot chocolate with marshmallows.
This is really helping me out! Got loads of people on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so need to do loads of prep. Would love to see more ideas on this. Thank you! ❤
Such a great video, thank you!! This is our first Christmas with a 9 month old baby so any prep before the day is amazing! Any more Christmas food prep videos you have would be amazing!! 😍
I only just watched this video cause I didn't get a chance to before Christmas and I'd really like to the try the sprout dish. I've never added cream to my sprouts!
Hey Kerry, these tips are lovely! I prefer to make a traditional roast (w a veggie wellington lol) at Christmastime. My family find it charming since they don't ever eat roasts. It's been my tradition for the past 5 years & they look forwrad to it. ☺ - Big hug from San Diego, CA xx
Hi Kerry, we’re going out for Christmas dinner this year, any ideas for something light in the evening? We’re having a buffet Christmas Eve so I was trying to think of an alternative. Thank you so much as always for your fantastic video. I’m going to prep for future Sunday roast dinners xxxc
Thanks for another incredibly helpful cooking video, Kerry! This is SUCH a good idea to get ahead on things early! How long would you cook the carrots and parsnips if you were cooking them from frozen and how long if cooking them thawed? Thank you so much!
Hi Kerry, I used to hate Brussels sprout as a child. My dad used to say they were fairy cabbage to try and get me to eat them. My mother-in-law used to serve them with every meal because she loved them and when she wasn't looking I used to give them to my husband. In the end I just left them on my plate after repeating I didn't like them. I think the problem was her and my mum used to boil them to death and made them taste bitter. My sister made them one year for Christmas and I had a little taste and loved them. She steamed them and now I eat them all year round. Just pop them in a microwave steam bag for 6 minutes or in microwave pan with a little water and steam them and they are delicious.
I was exactly the same.. I hated sprouts forever and honestly used to gag when made to eat the 1 I had to on xmas day!!! Now however, I pile them onto my plate!! hehehe.. It definitely is all about how they are cooked!!! xxx
Great video Kerry, this will be a massive help this week. My one question would be how long and what temperature would you cook the carrots and parsnips ? 200 degree for 40 mins ish ?
THANK YOU 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This video was the kick I needed to get into the mood. So much has happened this year, that Christmas was firmly on a back burner. How do you make your mince pies? I wouldn't mind watching you make some.
Oh wow amazing advice thank you so much, have ordered the bags as I like BPA free. We freeze a lot of cooked and left over food and I often wonder about using plastic bags being bad for the environment. Also as a survivor (2 years) of mouth cancer I do tend to prefer BP A free products. Yes please to more of the same amazing prep tips, and where do you buy your scented thyme please? Have never seen it before, thanks again we feel really festive now. Might put the christmas tree up this week 🎄🎅😅xx
ahah I am so very pleased this video has been helpful :) I love getting organised and prepping in advance.. anything to make life run a bit smoother :) Congratulations on your recovery.. that's incredible news and I wish you all such a happy festive period :) xxx p.s my thyme is from Waitrose :) xxx
Hi Kerry. Love your channel, been watching for ages. I recently put a chicken carcass in my instant pot with other stuff (for an hour), and the bones broke into fragments. Maybe I did it for too long. I’ve ordered some muslin bags for next time. Have you had this happen? Best, Graham.
Yes that’s totally normal.. so now I just drain off the liquid and keep that as my stock / bone broth and then discard of the bones and extras.. use your broth to make so many delicious meals.. you will love it :) xxx
I’m always worried to prep max and cheese as I find when I cook it after being frozen it is a little watery.. however.. maybe just give it an extra 10 mins in the oven to burn off any excess water :) xxx
Oh great :) yes of course.. I put everything in those bags.. just make sure your food has cooled down a little first :) than once finished give them a good wash and use them again :) xxx
I must admit I keep my carrots and parsnips whole, just top and tail them without peeling. I don't cut up the potatoes either. Sprouts are the part of the meal I leave till the end as they're my favourite bit although my husband calls them the devil's testicles. The ones on the stalk will keep growing if you put the stick in water. You've made me hungry now 😋
you just ended up with double the amount of dirty dishes. i suppose this prepping took off 30 total minutes in which you just wake up an extra 30 minutes! i don't get these preps! you fill your fridge up with many more containers, as I hate used plastic reusable zip lock bags! yuck! who ever really allows them to completely get clean and dry besides me the germaphobe!, I just don't see the planning that goes into prepping all these dishes, etc. I suppose you will tell us also how to prep your huge turkey, too? as it takes up the entire fridge/freezer? I'm not convinced.
Jamie Oliver and other chefs recommend this and do this prep!! There are people who work christmas day that do this as they're short on time. I dont see your problem with this at all. Why spend most of the day in the kitchen when you can prepare it all before.
Love this video Kerry.

What a brilliant video, spent my time today prepping for Christmas Day, thanks Kerry for the tips.
I always roast my potatoes and parsnip the day before and reheat on Christmas day. Works a treat!

Such brilliant ideas to get ahead and also to free some space in the fridge as everything is tucked away in the freezer. Brilliant! Thank you xx 🎄
Its also great to make some of these if anything is on the turn in your cupboards or fridge so you don't waste anything :) xxx

Do you let them cool before freezing ?, if so for how long?I read not to put hot food in freezer. Many thanks for great video
I didn’t know you could freeze veg without blanching first, wow
Oh yes I always do my veg this way and they come out so nicely :) xxx

Morning where’s the link for the bags I would like to get some xxx great video xxx
If you look in my description box you will find the link there :) xxx
Would you prep a Mac and cheese for over Xmas? We’re having it in nye any ideas would be good x
I’m always worried to prep max and cheese as I find when I cook it after being frozen it is a little watery.. however.. maybe just give it an extra 10 mins in the oven to burn off any excess water :) xxx
Hi Kerry - do the silicone bags take on the flavour of the food eg onions/garlic or do you keep separate ones for savoury and sweet foods?
oh no I haven't found that.. I just Juve them a really good wash out in warm soapy water after use and then they are as good as new again :) xxx
I found the link I didn’t go down far enough. Can you freeze meat in them and then clean them and re use them for the meat again x
Oh great :) yes of course.. I put everything in those bags.. just make sure your food has cooled down a little first :) than once finished give them a good wash and use them again :) xxx
Any Christmas starter ideas? 🙂
Oohh yes great idea.. I’ll make a video for you for this very soon :) xxx
Do potatoes need to be cooled down before we add them to bag and freeze them straight away?
Yes I do let all my foods cool before adding them to the bags and freezer, mainly so they don't heat the freezer up too much really :) xxx
So its ok to freeze the veg without blanching?? Can this be any veg? Z
I must admit I keep my carrots and parsnips whole, just top and tail them without peeling. I don't cut up the potatoes either.
