ppl dont use boss pedals these days because they say they are not transparent and have tone loss but Joe is just nailing with them. a lot to think about. because so many expensive pedals are coming out now.

This proves clearly 2 things. Firstly Satriani is a guitar god Secondly he can turn up and do things on the fly, combo amp and a few reliable pedals including the DS1! No fuss or over the top requirements - give the man a guitar and he’s good to go!

Well he decided to alter and evolve the song when he could no longer play the actual solo from the original recording anymore. But I still love his improvs that he does around them, he still knows how to give that late 80's vibe when he wants.

Thats the best thing is that they are 35 years old. Same musician, but with little changes. That keeps it interesting to me. No one stays the same forever. Not even one year to the next. But its amazing to keep that same original song structure and rhythm.
Of all the G3 lot like Vai, Malmsteen etc etc Joe has written the most memorable music and melodies. This was epic! He's got the bluesy feel, melody and the shred. Insane

My personal favorite guitarists!! Met him backstage at the only Concert I've seen him Live at!! He was so humble down to earth and I went away more inspired than before. Totally unassuming not pretentious at all!! People underestimate that He has also taught some of the other top 50 guitar players, that should tell you that if he taught others who are considered great like Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet, Nigal tuffnal, Andy Timmons just to name a few and still put out his own original stuff is beyond words!!
Saw him in France in May of this year at Tours Town on a sunday night...2.40 of an so awesome show.... he is not of this earth ! I'm 50 and I follow him since I'm 17....
He makes it look sooooo easy. But i heard he spends hours every day just practicing scales and modes. Practice makes perfect. We are not worthy oh great and talented Master.
Much more than that... So much more... Look, he is one of the EXTREMELY FEW IN HISTORY, who can pull entire albums of instrumental songs and it's never boring, all main melodies, solos and riffs being perfectly memorable and soulful, more than half his songs are top hits, AND as he grows old he improves his tone and his play becomes more rich and templed, the current way he plays old songs is better than the originals... How many rock/blues musicians can claim that?

I was a teenager when this came out. I called into a radio station for the first time on a song from this album. 98 Rock WIYY, in Baltimore. They had a pass, or trash segment on one of the night shows, and one week it was Satch Boogie, which had just been released. Got to hear myself on the radio, after I voted. Still a music dork, all these years later. Had Surfing With the Alien on cassette. I’ve been relistening to a bunch of music from that time period in my life lately, so I can add this one to the list.🙂🎸

I've seen Joe on virtually every UK tour. His music and gigs just make me so happy - his joy is infectious. Slowly but surely he became my all-time favourite musician. Grateful he is still out there making music. Thanks Joe.
Surfing with an Alien was a great album, loved it! Joe is one of the greats and a unique sound all his own, especially when it comes to capturing melody within his songs and when soloing.❤
I remember reading a tiny review of this album Surfing With The Alien from a new guitarist in Guitar Player back in 1987..i went down Cardiff to Spillers and got a copy...And the World changed!!! So talented and lyrical in his playing. Anyone who wants to learn about guitar playing needs to check Joe out. I got a chance to photograph him and meet him years later, real nice humble guy. This is a great video, if you've got much more of this performance please stick it on here.
I don't know why, but this song just has the essence of Dimebag in it to me.....the riff, the harmonics, pinched and natural ones that get pulled out of the octave stratosphere.... I just hear like lil Dime nuances in it all over the place......
