Save yourself time and effort. you had the pre hung door measurements. make the framing fit with your 1/2" spare for shimming. 2) to shim a door quickly add a 1/8th or 3/16th shim in the door clearance (Between the door and door frame) This will preserve the clearance so you can shim the hinge side plumb (moves door and frame as one so it doesn't skew) tac shims with a brad to hold in place, place an extra set on both hinge and latch sides of the top plate of the frame to snug frame so it wont move when you open the door to install screws. recheck plumb as well as lateral so the door doesn't open or close itself. Something you did wrong was NOT installing the the backing plate above the door which is to support any finish going on the inside walls and allow for weather sealing. This is because you put a door with a 4" wide frame into a 6 or 8" transition (depends if you wanted casing or a set back) the reason 4" was wrong is the interior of the door should hang inside the frame by the thickness of the interior finish product. (Most common these days: Drywall) Garage drywall is fire guard 5/8" even 2 layers of. The issue is you've installed the door to overlap the brick pushing the frame towards to outside leaving no space for the finish inside you'll need to cut and add a lip on which any interior door casing can be applied. Which is why a 6" or 8" frame was needed. I've installed thousands of doors of all kinds. for this type since you did the framing as well you could save all the headaches by being straight square & plumb on a level surface.
Wow, this is the most informational response I’ve ever received! Thanks for the feedback! A 6-8” framed door costs almost triple a regular 4” wide exterior door so to save some money I just have to get creative with trimming the door out 👍
@@m.creekrenovations then you set the door correctly towards the interior and add a false extension on the outside caulk the seam. You don't want to extend the side where the door is swinging. The hinges are set specifically so the door lands correctly at the door stop with or without a door seal ( exterior/interior ) building up the hinged side of the door will impede the hinges and the door itself will bind on the door casing. The reason I was explaining the size needed is you posted the video "Hang a door in 5 minutes" most people who hang for work can take a prehung door make it fit to the crooked opening (99.5% are) in about 20 minutes 30 if you have to cut a casing & caulk. I wanted to see a door installed in five.
