The fact that this man really felt the need to write a 95 page pamphlet just to say “I cheated on my wife” it just hilarious to me. But seriously Alexander, get to the point already.

I really admire the way the pamphlet is written. Such amazing phrasing and intelligent vocabulary. I'm really impressed how you managed to read it so eloquently and smoothly. Very impressive, sir.

Yeah, I know. But the thing is pamphlets are supposed to be short. Hamilton went wayyyy overboard and wrote too much.

OkAy-
😦 how can you not like hamilton
We all love it when people make idiots out of themselves.
The fool wrote 95 pages of his affair that literally nobody asked for as a way to dispute another claim... that’s like literally writing the biggest erotica fic about yourself and digging a hole the size of a crater, lying in the middle of it and then being sad that he’s in a crater... for a smart guy this is legendary dumb 😂
@@leek.3671 the musical Hamilton made him look a lot stupider than he was in reality. His decision to publish the Reynolds Pamphlet has been called 'one of the gravest errors of misjudgment in history'. But actually, Hamilton had no choice but to publish the Reynolds pamphlet. Let me explain.
This is what happened in real life:
There was no trip upstate like the one Angelica and Eliza proposed. Instead, Philip Schuyler was worried for his daughter's health; New York in the summer without air conditioning is always going to ne hot, but it was particularly hot that year. Schuyler, worried for his daughter's health, invited her to stay for a few mpnths with him upstate, where it was slightly cooler. He didn't even invite Hamilton. Eliza asked if he would like to join her, but they BOTH knew he was too busy. And Maria had already gone to Hamilton's house and lured him into the affair before she left. Once Eliza was out of the way, the coast was clear to bring his mistress home. They carried on the affair into the fall, but in the autumn James Reynolds returned. He and Hamilton were friends at first, but when the former found out about the affair he sent Hamilton a furious letter accusing him of adultery. He stated that Hamilton could continue the affair as long as he paid hush money. Hamilton, unbelievably, agreed to these terms and continued the affair into the winter. In November, James Reynolds was arrested on a different scam, and while trying to wriggle out of it, asked Hamilton for help. Hamilton refused, and James retaliated by spreading round a rumour that he had dirt on Hamilton. Hamilton did everything to prevent such rumours from getting anywhere near Eliza. But the rumours did catch the attention of three men - NOT Jefferson, Burr and Madison, but two other men and more importantly, James Monroe. They were all democratic republicans amd all wanted to get Hamilton out of office. They confronted him about James Reynolds' charges. Hamilton was very stiff and cold at their meeting in his office, and told them to see him the next afternoon in his house. They did, and he bafflingly told him about the affair in agonising detail. He also showed them papers. They were so shocked at what they had stumbled upon that on the way home, one of the men crossed the pavement and said, in genuine sympathy, that he wished he had not been witness to such a humiliating confession. James Monroe, meanwhile, went over to his crony, Thomas Jefferson. He told Jefferson about what he had heard, and one can imagine Jefferson's eyes gleaming at such dirt on his arch-enemy. Almost a year later, Hamilton finally broke off the affair. It was a well-kept secret for 4 and a half years and could have remained secret were it not for the fact that Hamilton forgott he first rule of accusing others. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks. He wrote an article in the newspaper questioning the morality of Jefferson's love life (his sexual relationship with his slave Sally Hemmings). Jefferson immediately wrote a scathing article back accusing Hamilton of the same charge. Hamilton was shocked. But Jefferson wasn't finished. Embarrased and infuriated, he went to a friend of his, a truly horrid man who made a living tarnishing otherwise spotless reputations - not unlike the media today. He was delighted with such a dirty bit of gossip and at once began digging into the affair. He quickly put together what had happened. But he decided that Hamilton would never so stupid as to do carry on the affair for so long, all while Eliza was pregnant with their fifth child. Instead, he decided that Hamilton had been involved in the financial scam James Reynolds was arrested for. He published a book and in it, said that Hamilton had been in the scam and also in the affair. But he did not mention that Hamilton paid hush money for as long or as much as he did, because he thought it was too bogglingly stupid to be true. The scam woukd have been disastrous for Hamilton's reputation, and he needed to stop that accusation at once. But how could he deny the affair too? He could hardly deny both charges when one could easily be proved. So Hamilton, left with no other choice, published the Reynolds Pamphlet, in which he publicly admitted to the affair and the extra details that had not been mentioned, but denied the one abput the scam.
ALEXANDER HAMILTON had a torrid affair and he wrote it down right there DAMN
If Hamilton was alive today.
Me: Sir, what are we going to do about global warming?
Hamilton: If, when and therefore we speak of such matters, or any matter forthright or willingly forthcoming and certainly agreed upon by common men of many professions to such greater expertise then may I be so inclined to ever denote, the temperature of the times and also of the past haven risen to levels that admittedly bare a reasonable presumption that all should be wildly or at least commonly concerned that in such evidence presented, carbon admissions should be regulated.
Me: Okay then, so…

Lol like women could just divorce around then....
CrumbleCrumbs yes true
Divorce was essentially UNHEARD OF in the 18th century. Where was she going to go in a world where women couldn't work and essentially were under a strict patriarchy? Back to her father's house with her children?
@@blackalien6873 ik that's why I said true
While divorce was technically a thing it was very difficult. In Eliza's case, even though she couldn't work at the time becase she's a woman, she could move back with her father. Divorce was just very difficult back then. But historicaly Eliza didn't forgive him so easily. She left with her kids to stay with their father for two months. They only returned because Philip was sick. Even then in his last years Alexander's only confidant was Angelica. Eliza probably only stayed with him bc they had 7 chidlren with another on the way.

Are you kidding? Of course everyone's watched Hamilton. Can you imagine how long and boring this would seem had there been no hip-hop musical? The name 'Hamilton' would mean nothing to you.
