    I have a Foxhound and we love her. I would agree with 98%. They are not for first timers. She goes on a 4 mile run or walk everyday and still has energy. Last, they can't be trusted out of a fence or off leash. They need, need, need to run.

    Foxhounds are wonderful! I found a starving,abandoned female about 1-2 yrs ol. She lived to be 16 and was the best. Great sense of humor, responds well to consistent, positive care. A good listener, always ready to participate. She was a superb cuddler and napped. I miss her. Oh yes, she was aggressive only once, when our home was targeted for an attempted burglary. The burglar was really frightened and left. She was amazing! Easy to house train. Companions should be consistent!

    The train ability of a dog does depend on the skills of the trainer and the breed. A foxhound (British- or American) is a Hound breed which is naturally a hunting dog/pack dog and as such his train ability is actually outstanding. We have to stop judging- or categorizing dog breeds based on the owners incompetence.

      FACTS
      Also people need to stop buying dogs based on looks. A person who hunts and uses this dog and trains it well it would be labeled as the smartest dog in the planet by that person but someone who lives in city doesn’t work or walk the dog or train it it’s going to be hell

    Definitely cute. My previous dog was a Golden, so I guess I am a bit spoiled! He was so easy to train and eager to please.

    3:25 that face looks JUST like my Foxhound, Reginald! I adopted him from the shelter and he was 8 years old. He was previously owned by a single elderly man who had to be put in assisted living facility. Reggie spent quite a few months unadopted in the shelter before I found him. What drew me to him was the fact that he was the only dog there that wasn’t doing backflips and barking loudly, he was curled up quietly in the corner of his concrete cell and he even had some feces in the fur of his front & back legs. I took him home and only gave him a dry bath at first with dog wipes & wash cloths to let him settle in. But it’s been just barely over a year now and he’s a really great dog. He has some hip dysplasia, but his range of motion is still good. I couldn’t ask for a better old pup!

    People need to understand that the foxhound was bread to be a pack dog that was meant for hunting. This dog will do good on a farm used for sport. This isn’t an apartment dog or a couch dog.

    Love our American Foxhound! He was clocked on a radar gun speeding ! hehe. I take him on a "Hunt" everyday where he is on a super long line and sniffs out about everything on the property. Has bit me when younger, but loves attention, and he seem to like women better than men hehe.

      The American foxhound is different than the English. They do share an ancestry, but the American foxhound has French and Irish hounds crossed in during g the 1700s and early 1800s. They are distinctly different, even if they look similar.

    What about mixing them with Border Collie?

    • @DamonKirry
      @DamonKirry 2 года назад +1

      Why would you so that? Those are 2 completely different breeds with different personalities. Get one or the other. Allowing a litter of puppies to try one of them is a bad idea.

      @@DamonKirry I was thinking of trainable Scenthound,combining the intolerance of Border Collie and good sense of smell of hounds.

      @@peaceandlove5214 You can train a coonhound pretty easily. I have one that I've been working with for less than a week and he's already retrieving, sitting and staying etc. They aren't so hard headed that they can't learn. You just train them differently than you would a less independently minded dog. The heeler blood would as likely ruin trail running instinct as it would make him any smarter.
