In 1984 I knew a SSG with 16 years in the military, he was one of the best NCO, s I ever served with . He always scored 300 on his pt test . Unfortunately, he was just a big guy and I watched them chapter this good man out of the Army with only 4 years to retirement. Totally disgusted me watching what they did to him and his family . I was a E5 at the time and when my ETS date came up they wanted me to re enlist . I chose to get out due to what I saw them do to this good man . 2 years later I joined the National Guard and ended up doing 30 years all together retiring as a SFC with 3 deployments. I would have stayed in the RA if they hadn't totaly screwed my freind over .

Just because that happened the way it did with that 11C, does NOT mean that is how the entire army operates and is thus “really hard to get kicked out.”
I’ve personally seen junior soldiers get kicked out for WAYYY minor offenses than the list of things that 11C did. That’s literally once in a blue moon. To say he was lucky is an understatement. But please, don’t try to use that as an example of how hard it is to get kicked out of the army.
It’s simply not true and incredibly misleading. It also kind of gives the army a bad rep.

There's really no way to "cleanse" drugs from your system other than time. This is the biggest issue for lovers of the Devil's Lettuce, which can be detected for up to a month depending on usage and individual metabolism.
@Chief Drumo, if you drink massive amounts of water the day of the test, it can dilute THC metabolites to an undetectable level. However, the drug test industry has caught up with this. Labs will fail or ask to retest if your urine is "too clear". When they analyze your sample they look for concentration of compounds usually found in urine. The "Cleansing" products that head shops sell contain a high enough concentration of what gets diluted to allow your sample to appear normal. If you were in more than 25 years ago, this method would have worked.

When I was the drug and alcohol NCO for my battery, we generally pulled numbers for a hat for the random drug tests. Lest number of the social won. If we suspected someone was using, their number might have been drawn while looking. It was usually a couple failed drug tests prior to chaptering a soldier out, but that was the 90's.
Outside of those who failed drug tests, most of the people I saw chaptered were done so due to different felonies committed. Some of the felony folks just ended up in military prison as was the case for a soldier who molested his stepdaughter and another who had sex with a 15 year old dependent.
I only saw one soldier chaptered for not making his weight and he had months to fix it. I saw guys who couldn't pass their PT test do entire tours without getting the boot. My former brother in law did 8 years in the National Guard without passing his PT test after training.

It really is unit dependent as unit policies and locations come into play. i.e. a unit can have a no tolerance policy and one DUI be cause for initiation of separation (two is the Army policy). My unit here I mainly process separations for drugs, patterns of misconduct, domestic violence, and mental status.

It was about 1989/90 that all that changed if you were over weight and fail the tape test you had 90 days to get under and you only had 2 chances to pass the PT test after a failure. In addition while you were trying to get under weight or pass the PT test you could not go to schools, deploy, PCS or receive awards it really messed with your life.

Could've summed this up into Misconduct, Mental Health, and H/W PT test failures. Misconduct covers everything a Soldier has direct influence on regarding their decision making skills, or lack there of. Mental Heath can stop a career dead in its tracks. Six month PHA's, and you get caught, depending on rank, MOS, ASI's, you can be found unfit for duty, which makes one undeployable, which can lead a CDR and 1SG to begin the process of pushing you to get help, only to see through the doctors "he/she is too burned out to be mission capable". While the ACFT is on pause, failing tape multiple times can send you packing, with the hope your unit won't fuck you over and try to deny your involuntary sep pay. Some units are much better than others regarding this since a lot of it is "At the commanders intent".

The 'Reserve' used to hold (-2009) 'pee' tests every month. It was supposed to be random, but, all the 'randomees' (sic) might not be present and 25% of the roster needed to be sampled (quite common for 50% - 75% not present because of mobilizations, etc). The 'new' volunteers were selected 'randomly'. Which depending on the number of soldiers present, each soldier stood a SOLID chance of being tested quite regularly. One would think, that in and of itself would be deterrent enough to 'stop' drug use while 'in' the reserves. Let's just say, some 'light bulbs' are not as bright as others.

We did pull, "Health and Welfare" inspections and if we found hash or any other drug item in a soldiers locker, I would take them to the bathroom and ask them if it was theirs. If they said, "No", then I would let them watch as I flushed the drugs down the toilet. They would be in tears as I had just cost them a lot of money, but we did what we could. He was a Cook and out unit got catering service during drills and often AT as well. He also had mental issues as he'd continue to talk to himself and bite his finger over and over again. One instance I hopped on the Bus, waiting to leave the range. He was the only other person on the Bus so far and after witnessing him talking to himself and angrily biting his finger, I got back off the buss and one of the E-5s laughed and commented to me that no feels comfortable being along with him.

For weight, the Army usually gives the soldier a chance to lose weight by enrolling them in the weight control program first. The soldier needs to lose 3-8 pounds a month to stay in and make satisfactory progress on the weight control program. I was on weight control a few times. Lost the weight each time and got promoted. I only saw one soldier booted for being over weight. Now I am on the VAs weight loss program called MOVE lol. I struggled with weight my whole life. A lot depends on what type of soldier you are. If you fail tape but are a good troop otherwise your command will usually work with you. What a lot of commands do is not allow overweight soldiers to reenlist and force the overweight troop to ETS.

I never heard of a SM being kicked out of basic for being pregnant.
Sms will not be allowed into basic while being pregnant.
If one becomes pregnant during basic. They are pulled out of basic training ( same with AIT) and become holdover status. Until they are no longer pregnant. Then they resume training.
Now. They may be given the option to leave serve. On soldiers choose. But they may not be forced out. This is a legal issue. That if pushed can result in the Army paying for everything for the child. By everything, I am refering to birth, day care, schooling, college ECT, ECT.
So as you can see. It in the Army's best interest to allow the young lady to continue her training when able and ETS out.
Another, is after the child is born. Unable to provide care. No care plan. A mother may choose to leave serves. From my experience, the Army move pretty quick on this chaptering. And in no way, hurt the mother if down the road. She decides to reenlist.
And yes this can happen in basic.

If you missed on the next weigh-in you were given an AR15, miss a third time, you were discharged. Now, if you showed improvement at each weigh in, you were ok, even a pound or two. My command wouldn't allow me to partake in employment opportunities from SFLTAP. I had 30 days of leave saved up to sell. Your story sounds a bit fishy. If you were injured and chaptered out you would be medically discharged and then receive VA disability for a service connected injury. Also the leave being cashed out is an automatic system. They dont get to choose to keep it and if there is an error and you don't get it then they have to fix it. The Army also has to pay for your travel back to where you will be living when you get out. Now if you did something you were not supposed to do then this might make seance to a point.

To get him removed from us the CO had the company do a planned drug test on a Friday before a three-day Weekend. That Tuesday, he had the whole company do a "surprise" drug test in which this PoS was caught. He was gone within a month.

I’ve been regular Army early nineties and early 2010’s. The early nineties were different. Homosexuality got you kicked out quick with one caveat you’d have to be a screw up and gay. I had a Lesbian in my unit who kept a girlfriend in her barracks room. Nobody bothered her. The gay male who was known for serving up dudes in those same barrack wasn’t nearly as good a soldier got chaptered.
The PT failure chapter is probably the worst. You’d have to work super hard at failing the old PT test multiple time. Even with drugs you can say I need help. They will pit in ASAP program.
Chapters usually are pretty hard to do, can take months. Most Commanders would prefer to give a bar to re-enlistment. Great video.

One of my units in the 90s we had females on our floor. We had lesbians living there. No one cared.

Drugs, theft, civil offence i.e rape or domestic violence as well as discipline reasons. They are dishonourable discharges within the Australian army, and yes, I’ve seen soldiers go this way plenty of times. I’ve experienced being in a section of 9 soldiers, reduced to 4 with 5 soldiers being dragged off pre-MilSkills training, one of the guys was done via his wife calling the police on him. Theft in the barracks, one guy was trashing the barracks rooms, when the entire battalion was out bush, he was drummed out of the battalion and was placed in the cells ‘for his own protection just prior to the drumming where he had to walk the ring road, lined by all of the 700 plus members which turned their backs on him. I was medically discharged, my pack was way to heavy, being a grunt did it for me.

@@christopherchaos It is very hard to chapter for Adultery. They have to be witnessed in the act and provin without a shadow of a doubt. Only once I saw it happen. Female SPC was fuckin a SSG in the showers in Kuwait. Someone walked in and witnessed them fucking. Hard evidence.

I got medically retired from the AF in 2013 after 15yrs. Security Forces, Civil Engineering, and Maintenance get chaptered out left and right monthly. It was in the commanders briefing every week who was coming in and going out.
I saw a lot of people get fucked by the system. Most of it was people doing it to themselves.

I received the standard Honorable Discharge after 4 years, but with a RE-2 designation. This originally destroyed me. Looking back, it's meaningless. I've accomplished more than I ever expected.

Do people get kicked out for mental health diagnosis? And would it be an honorable discharge or would it be a dishonorable discharge? Examples include schizophrenia which commonly develops in the early to mid 20's. PTSD is also an issue. I know PTSD can be treated but many mental health issues can prevent people from being effective in combat or life in general. How does the military deal with it? Some people are not mentally ill but are completely unsuitable for the military. Someone could be a sociopath or psychopath and be functional and not break any rules and meet the requirements. Except for the bat shit crazy part.

Your actually pretty accurate as to soldiers being chaptered. Every blue moon a soldier or NCO would be chaptered because they RCP. basically ran out of time before they could get promoted to the next pay grade. This was usually happening to E5(P) that were 92As because the cutoff scored stayed 798. But pissing hot, DUI or domestic violence and failing to meet height and weight or failing APFTs were the top ones. I have been in units where we chaptered soldiered out because of multiple misconduct such as disrespect to NCOs, always being late for formation, basically not giving a F### and after a few ART 15s and reductions in rank with lots of extra duty it was time for a chaptered 13 misconduct discharge.

    Marines, Okinawa, early 1990's.
"Fall out and into formation in P.T. gear and stand by for:
ANY tattoos that can be seen. Being overweight.
Or, "just not looking good in uniform."
And if you have any charges... "
Some got options, some got immediately dissmissed from duty.
Those of us who were left, got the old:
"Standby for more" upcoming responsibility (for those of us who are left)!
With big (yep, this is going to suck) $hit eating grins, from our commanders.
As they looked at the few of us that were left.
The last one was the kicker, 'cause they weren't kidding!

Not passing your record PT tests twice is reason enough to be kicked out but I've seen people be given constant breaks and at least one guy I know has seemingly always failed height/weight in addition to always failing his record PT tests (our last record PT test was in September 2019 btw and me and this guy have both been in for about four and a half years and I don't believe he has passed a single PT test since AIT. He is finally getting chaptered now because he failed a drug test)

In the Guard, we had a Lautenburg Amendment check annually.
A felony conviction will, too. A CCIR has to be filed and the chain of command updated monthly. A guilty plea or conviction will automatically get one kicked out.

First off I just want to say thank you to all men and women in uniform past and present who have fought and served our country I always wanted to be in the military but unfortunately that dream never came to fruition as I am partially blind and that disqualified me but I do have a question for you guys who have served if somebody is deemed untrainable it's something in the army is that grounds for being kicked out of the army or would they just find something else for you to do?

Army 1984-1991 and after we came back from Iraq at the end of the year they had a WEIGH IN and of course I was over weight. My First Sargent in the past had talked to me once before he got promoted about not re enlisting. So I went into his office and told him I was ready to get out, he walked out to the CQ and told to them to go down to Battalion Headquarters and get my clearing papers. 10 days later I was a civilian. NO regrets

I am going to try to make this short. I was in The Army From 74 76. National Guard 80-82. About 2 months into Basic Training. We had a mass formation. Called by one mean DI. We were not givening time to dress. We were told a guy had over dosed. We were also told that the doctors that gave him the physical were not 100 per cent sure if he was on drugs or not and they let him in anyways. We were also told that supposed idly he was being watched. If he was they failed to watch him real good.
