Clinical massage therapist here! Best way to address IT band tension is working on the muscles attached to it. The IT band is not a muscle itself, it is the tendon of the Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) muscle and the Glute Max muscle. If either or both of these muscle are tight It will cause tension in the IT band. What also happens is the Vastas lateralis muscle (lateral quad muscle) which is directly underneath the IT band will get tight causing the fascia of the IT Band to tighten as well. This prohibits fluid movement between the two structures which can cause inflammation and some therapists say "adhesions" (this is yet to be proven). So definitely working on Vastas Lateralis, TFL AND Glute Max will be beneficial. I'd recommend finding I good clinical sports massage therapist in your area. Benny Vaughn is the father of sports massage and he has a training facility in Texas, but I can't remember where so that probably doesn't help😅 anyhoo, this approach has work with my clients, especially if it was strictly a muscular issue. If it is an inert (non contractile tissue like ligament or bursa, etc) tissue issue/inflammation this approach can still help ease up the pain and aid in recovery. Hope this helps you or anyone else reading it👍
Love when Kylie vlogs! Great way to brighten my day! Currently training for a 5k I plan to run with my mini Aussie! Great to see you back in running and being honest of how it goes! It is a journey!
love your sweet energy. the canyon bakehouse bread is the best we’ve found! my son has celiac and so we have tried all of them and its the least crumbly and tastes delicious!
Hi Kylie! I follow a gluten free diet and one of my fav GF breads is the Canyon Bakehouse 7-Grain bread (they have other flavors too). Trader Joe's Gluten Free Whole Grain Bread is also pretty good (the slices are pretty small tho, so it's hard to make a sandwich with but great for avocado toast!) And the Trader Joe's GF everything bagels are really yummy!
half marathons are my favorite distance and pizza is my favorite pre-long run/race meal haha! Step by step, mile by mile, day by day - you're doing great!
Base Culture bread is amazing GF bread!! I’m not even gluten free but I love it! They have variety of flavors and even have a banana and pumpkin loaf!! No sugar too. Thanks for your videos, love them so much!!
Banded side steps and Side leg lifts helped me with my knee pain. I tried physical therapy and stopped running for 6 months. Those two exercises for about a month and I was back to running pain free. I hope you find what works for you!
I have the same IT band issues and would go on runs to the point I couldn't walk! Chiropractic helped me a ton to get my hips aligned and even out the muscle imbalance that caused my bad side to overwork. Incline or decline running also make it worse for me due to the IT band working harder to stabilize. Highly recommend seeing a Chiropractor that has an emphasis on rehab and it could help tons!
Love hearing this. That’s primarily what I do with my patients. Is a lot of soft tissue work plus rehab. Especially athletes that have had acl surgery have a big imbalance with that hip and ankle. Plus some on the other side. If you don’t fix it you will continue stressing out that knee and unfortunately that’s how people end up with multiple surgeries. Unfortunately a lot of people have recommended great advice for her , but here we are complaining about the same problem. It’s going to hurt and even hurt worse at times because the root of the problem is not being addressed or fixed.
As someone who still struggles with acne ( I’m 40). Started when I was in high school. This is just bc I know the struggle. Maybe too much with the supplements and changing all the time. Your body can’t keep up. Sometimes less is more. Not trying to shame just advice ❤️
Hey Kylie! You might be interested in dry needling. I’m a physical therapist in Fort Worth and have had awesome success with using it in different ways for knee pain, and specifically IT band and/or vastus lateralis tightness. Without getting into the science, it quickly and effectively helps decrease tension in the muscle and provides pain relief!😊
I also have been a marathon runner and now have severe IT band pain in my knee and can barely even run 2 miles now. Please let me know if you ever find anything to help this, I want to get back to what I love
Girl same, I find myself going to YT over Netflix sometimes. Can you recommend other RUclipsrs you like to watch? I’ve been trying to find new ones with similar vibes (health and wellness). Thanks!!
I’ve been gluten-free for like five years, I really like the promise gluten free, the little northern bakehouse (the white one, the others you have to toast so it’s not to dry). The best gluten-free bread I’ve ever had was from a local gluten-free bakery.
I’ve been dealing with IT band knee pain for months now! I feel like I have done everything like massaging, stretching, strength training, etc but I can only ever run outside for 1.5 miles too soooo discouraging cause I wanna push myself
I had the same problem with my knee, caused be a super tight IT band. I’ve visited various physiotherapists but only the last one diagnosed it. Used the massagegun every day and soon it was over!
When I had ITB issues and bad knee pain I discovered it was actually all stemming from my hip. I know your hip hurt in the past so maybe that's it for you too?? I youtubed some ITB syndrome exercises and did those a few times a week and that cured it!! (clam shells, single leg glute bridges, side lying leg raises etc)
I suffer from hip tendinitis & it was really bad last year till now till I took rehab so seriously, got a physio, 8week rehab program, & no pain anymore. But literally an hour of rehab/mobility everyday… but so worth it 🥲
ok 2 things 1. “oh i’m out of almond milk, ok ill just make some” and she ~casually~ makes almond milk at home?????? 2. i just ran the nyc half marathon and it was AMAZING. the vibes were high and it was soooo cool to run through NYC. if you do the full, it’ll be fun or if you wanna do the half, DO IT. the incline was rough but so worth it. also, you can 100% do a charity bib for the full (and half!!) - that’s the best way to get into big races!! i just ran for strong girls united and loved fundraising for them, check em out k ttyl xoxo gossip girl ilysm
i have celiac and honestly the store bought GF breads are no good (been GF for 8 years.. it's rough) - The Loopy Whisk has some great homemade bread recipes!!!
Didn't seem like you trained very much for the marathon towards the end, that is why it was so hard and hurt your knee. I think if you stuck to a training plan it would have gone much better for you.
The IT band is NO JOKE. 😭 It took two months to feel back to “normal” with running, but stretching before and after makes a huge difference. Coming from someone who hates warmups… it will go right back to hurting again if I skip it even once. 🫠
I love that your dad was “like hey I was in the neighborhood and thought I’d come fix your door.”

simple kneads is the way to go ma’am. BUT you HAVEEEE to toast it otherwise it doesn’t give what it needs to give 😚
