It's kinda cool to me how if somebody enjoys Pathologic 2, Disco Elysium or Fallout New Vegas they will probably love all these games, I can't tell why, they are kinda different games but they go hand in hand for some reason.
they have good dialogue. joshua gram from fo nv, the skills from disco, and i mean every character from pathologic 2. they all also feature divergent paths
Immersive atmosphere, player agency, good writing, hot sidekick, exploration of genre borders and very good music appeal to failed art degree university dropouts
Every couple months I search for pathologic 2 on RUclips to see if there's some new video analyzing or discussing it. Unfortunate how underrated it is.
Pathologic 2 is really a well-written game with great atmosphere. "Just because you have a hammer doesn't mean every problem's a nail". Congratulations, great video!
I remember being so overjoyed to find your first video. I was obsessed with it (like, wrote half the English wiki for the first game on my own obsessed) and had already been through sulmatul, Hbomb and mandalore's videos a million times. Finding someone fresh who wanted to talk about it and who found it as important as I did was such a breath of fresh air. I'm glad neither of us has shut up about it yet, and I'm so happy to see how your channel has grown. Especially glad to hear that Patho fans gave you the push to continue :)
This game changed my entire life. It taught me that art doesn’t need to be immediately enjoyable in order to be meaningful, and it completely opened my eyes to tons of other things in life that I would’ve missed out on
I would argue that immediately enjoyable art falls more into the entertainment category than the "capital A Art" category. I'm no gatekeeping elitist, but I do believe that great art should be challenging. Someone once said that art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable, and pathologic falls quite neatly into that description.
Pathologic 2 is one of the only experiences I’ve had with art where memories of certain moments in the game exist in my mind as viscerally and profoundly as memories from my own life.
I did a no buy run recently, a good way to survive after the army arrives is to backstab checkpoint soldiers for their guns rations and ammo, managed to get 40+ rifle bullets. All my bound survived, only death was Maria kaina
was SO quick to click on this video lol. this feels like a callout because MY favourite games are pathologic classic, disco elysium, and fallout new vegas (and like. night in the woods also but whatever) 😭i won't go into all of those games here because god id never stop writing. haven't played 2 yet because my pc cant run it but agh if this didn't make me want to play it even more lol. anyways, fantastic work as usual! your editing & scriptwriting get better with every video :-)
Interesting how I watched this video months ago and then found your channel again when I was looking for classic fallout video essays. I still need to play this game and I swear I will do it!
i don't know how this got into my recommendations but this was an absolute treat to watch. thanks for uploading this, and i'll be sure to check both games out. also yeah, that totally looks like syndrome :)
I’m so happy to have found someone that has exemplified the same feelings I had when playing the game. I think this game truly saved my life, as I didn’t start playing it until my grandma died of COVID. I didn’t know what to expect from the game, and by the end I had cried tears of joy, sadness, and hope. When Murky died in my campaign, and you’re taken in a dream sequence through her “home”, it crushed me. It really did. I know that seems melodramatic but it’s true, I haven’t had such a swelling of emotion from a piece of art since I watched Schilder’s List.
You know, I never even noticed that you're a "small"-time youtuber. Your stuff is good quality, and I hope to see more from you in the future. Pathologic holds a dear place in my heart, the original is a grueling experience that has an odd, if hopeful, ending; and I hope P2 eventually gets there as well
Pathologic 2 is one of those games that seeps beneath your skin and just stays with you for a really long time. Playing it in 2020 for the first time makes that feeling much more apparent.
Ah the good old days of the original Pathologic video. Youve seriously come a long way since then and grown the channel and your skill a lot. I think you posted your first ever video in the Ice Pick Lodge discord server and thats how I met you. Its crazy thinking where you are now and I never expected you to get to where you are now so quickly. Im not really a big fallout guy but Ive tried to watch some of your mod videos, and I really liked your recent video on the Dust mod. Anyways glad to see things come full circle and I hope youre doing well (ALSO RAMBLIME IS REAL WTF?????)
I don't normally leave comments but due to this video I wound up playing through and beating both Pathologic games and I just want to thank you for making this video, without it I doubt that I would've even touched either game, thanks a bunch.
For me, pathologic represents the natural struggle of existence. It’s simply too big to overcome, but the act of rebellion, however hopeless, is beautiful.
I want to cry because this is how I found out SulMatul is trans because her pathologic story analysis videos literally helped me sleep for the entirety of 2020 and half of 2021 and I'm so happy
I played the original Pathologic back in 2005, since then I have weird (and some times nightmarish : ) ) dreams about the Town in the Steppe every year or a half. That's how this game impressed me.
Fantastic video for a fantastic game. I also picked it up during the pandemic and it helped me there as well. This is the game that has made me feel something so strong. I've played games like Omori and Undertale and while both are fantastic as well, none left me with such true emotion for the world I was in. There's a moment when you can choose to try and escape with another character, but it doesn't go well. An character in a play can't just run off stage. I was so immersed that this didn't occur to me and that slow walk back to town with the music playing, immediately followed by the plague cheating in its own game made me feel such sorrow. I had to just sit with it for a while and wonder what had this game done different to all the others to make me feel this way? Such a good game.
Wound up subscribed to your channel from your 2077 critique, clicked through to Pathological 2 because hbomberguy. How many hours of Pathllogic-related media have I consumed now? Jeez. Stoked to hear you love Disco, but where’s the Disco content my dude? Thoughts on Fear and Hunger?
I just finished Pathologic 2 today. I don't remember why I bought the game but it's very different than I imagined. Resource management was stressful especially hunger. It was stressful to the point that I couldn't completely focus on the story lol. I almost gave up playing on the intended difficulty but managed to pull through! I definitely recommend this game to those who like to challenge themselves.
I love pathological 2 never beaten it. But the sheer difficulty and sacrifices you have to make. Do you get supplies for the day? Do you risk your death or save a sick person.
I got a weird necessity to revisit patho2 this time around and i stumbled upon your review, this is nice, despite all patho2 is my confort game and im glad that my returning obsession found me here
Have you seen IPL's discussion of the Batchelor campaign? IT'S STILL HAPPENING! And it seems like they're digging into that typical IPL strangeness to make something new rather than treading the same ground again.
my recent thots in pathologic path1 has great dialogue, and some cool mechanics that the sequel loses but is otherwise a much worse “game” path 2 doesnt need all 3 characters because the main one actually achieves the same things the first does with three characters. this does cause some of the story to be lost, esp clara, but the first game still exists if you want to check her out (albeit w a poor translation) path2 does have a bachelor dlc but it isnt the same as the first games bachelor path
The resource management mechanic (especially on the hardest difficulty) really dampened the experience for me. It just felt too forced and unnatural. I like when games are hard but this constant running from one person to the next to check what items they have felt tedious instead :( Now that I mention it I remember that I felt exactly the same when I played The Void which is too bad cz I really liked the story of both games otherwise. idk maybe I should try giving it a go on easier difficulty...
As a fan of the original game (played original Russian version) Please note 4 things: 1. This is a re-make "under a new management" kind of the deal. Not "part 2". Lots of unnecessary time wasting mechanics added instead of performance fixes. I'm kind of surprised that they're not added "convenience" "miscrotransations" like instant healing for $2, "lucky charm for better loot" for $20 and increased storage space for $15 (5 cells). Yeah, I'm THAT bitter of the game. 2. This is A ONE THIRD (1/3) of the game. 2 characters parts never released and most likely game will be abandoned forever. 3. Developers does not understand their game engine and do not understand concept of optimization. 4. I'm a kikstarter backer and followed all the updates. It is like a disaster movie in slow-motion with multiple episodes, written badly with $5 CGI budget. Verdict: Over-promised, over-budget, and fatally under-delivered kikstarter rip-off. JUST PLAY ORIGINAL ONE, for all 3 characters.
If you liked this game, I recommend you try to read Russian novels. you can start with the classics, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov (be careful with Tolstoy), from modern Alexey Ivanov, Glukhovsky, Salnikov.
When I died in the game someone told me I would never hug someone again. For reasons Ill keep private, rhis was very upsetting. I ended uninstalling the game
Can't believe you compared Death Stranding to Pathologic 2 in any way. It's like comparing a broken toilet to a book. Other than that, a good video! And hopefully more people gain knowledge about the brilliance of Pathologic.

They're smartly written compared to most games out there and sort of on the cerebral side of things.
