As mentioned by someone in these comments, I wouldn't consider this as him "taking her under his wing", I see it as a win-win. Both having much to gain by teaming up. I would like to know the whole story behind her split with Republic and I am confident that the facts will come out eventually. My hunch is that there were some non-contractual (verbal) agreements that didn't come to fruition. Just a guess.
