I'm not going to apologize for the microphone pops or the distortion. My setup was exactly the same as ever, I was just so excited to talk about Spawn figures.
Man, you are so right that everything that doesn't work about Spawn as a comic is what makes him an amazing toy. I'm amazed by how much cool crap they packed onto this disc. So many commercials I haven't seen online anywhere else. Amazing Todd, indeed.
I didn't go too deep on that subject, but I definitely think it's true. The variants, the extra detail, colour and finish. It translates so well to toys. Also I found out when researching that the reason each toy has so many variants was when a toy sold out, Todd would order that the next batch be a variant. This would ensure that everyone who wants one gets a figure, but the collectors who got the first run wouldn't have their pieces undermined with identical reissues.
Get Google Translate for your phone matey, then all you need to do is aim the camera at tthe screen and the app translates Japanese text to English augmented reality stylee. Great for RPG's and Japanese text screens on games too!
Thanks Nick! I love how much effort went into this. Imagine if this trend just kept going into the 2000s. I'd LOVE to see where this could have gone :)
Sorry for taking ages to reply, this was Held for Review, presumably for using a hashtag(!). I have good news for you, if you enjoyed this toy review, you're going to like what I have coming up in the new year 😉 #letthembreathe will be used again!
I was born in 1989 and i absolutely love interactive CD's like that. I remember being a kid before the Internet got big & these demo discs, or assortment of random videos, etc. Was a awesome experience growing up. I really liked the layout style of this Spawn CD. It resembles some of the best old school aesthetics that early websites or demo discs had. I also really love the quality and assortment of toys and animated series that were around in the 90's. Thing's were so creative and obscure and it really always facinated me. (I hope a new wave of that type of creativity makes a comeback but i feel very lucky to have gotten to grow up when i did. They were such good times)
Completely agreed. I would like to make this channel completely about all the weird ephemera from the Y2k era. Back when the internet was around, but weird CD-ROMs could exist alongside it.
Okay but that Spawn costume in the toy commercial rules! This was so cool, Matty! That CD-ROM is a treasure trove of Spawn goodness. Those rings are amazing 😍
Great video. It's bizare To think that products like this used to exist in the days we live in now! Fandom sites are cool, but do they come with sick beats like this? Didn't think so!
There was a chunk of this script which I cut out saying that a few years after this, this would just be done with a microsite or a wiki. And I'm glad that this existed first. Because it's way more rad.
The ritualistic unboxing of that CD was cathartic as hell. Kinda shocked at the quality of what was on it to be honest, I was expecting something more along the lines of what you'd get on a free CD out of a cereal box!
Oh nice. Perhaps if I find something like this in future, I should open it slower! Yeah this was much higher quality than it needed to be, considering it's just a tool to sell toys.
I have uploaded the whole CD-ROM to archive dot org! There's a link in the video description. The music is all .wav files right there on the CD. I use them in my videos now haha!
Hey man. WhatsApp me pictures of the Todd stuff and I’ll get them translated for you. The second one looks like why he wanted to make toys and why it was important for them to have really good detail.
Bless you for making this. #Spawntember

Honestly most of my exposure to Spawn has been your twitter account, but these 90s CD ROMs are 100% my jam. Great video! A nice trick down memory lane
That's hilarious. I've got some wicked 90s stuff coming up too, and hopefully you'll dig that. Thanks for commenting x :-D

I thought that might work but I didn't try it!! Let's goooo
Super cool. I also have an affinity for CD-Rom things so seeing there was a Spawn one for the toys is really nuts

Didn't think I'd be into a toy review on this channel, but hearing you compliment the bendy legs was peak Game Show content, tbh. Also #letthembreathe

Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :-D
Is that a little Sufjan I hear sneaking around in there?
Please tell me you plan on making a download for that music from the CD-Rom? It's the most 90's thing I've ever heard

Could you tell?
I don’t know honestly I just kind of guessed
