Thank you!! 😍 You are so welcome to watch from scratch ❤️ There is before we bought the cabin, and moved in to our cottage - and then buying the cabin and starting to renovate. Enjoy! Love, Annie
It is good to see you both again. Yor Bridge looks amazing and with the extended Deck you got a little Livingroom by the river. Another lovely Video to watch and remember.
The wood stove reminds me of my childhood during the 1960's growing up on a farm here in Oregon. Lots of happy times around that old stove and I loved the smell of it and the memories.
I don't know if you noticed, but wood tends to cup towards the smaller rings as they age (sometimes you can even see it in "fresh" kiln dried planks). This creates a bowl essentially where the water can sit until it dries up, and that damages it over time more than anything. If you did it the other way around, the water would've just run off and dry quicker. Nice build nonetheless. Edit: If you ask around a little, I'm sure you'll easily find someone who'll take that hay off your hand. People pay good money for that. If I lived nearby, I'd happily take it.
Correct in the US we call it "crowning" the board, not only will it cup with the grain of the wood but it will bow with it to. Depending on where and how the wood is being used, we try and always put the crown up so water run off instead of pooling and the bow up so the arch it creates adds strength to the structure and with weight will lay flatter.
I just found your channel and saw this bridge project. You guys did a Beautiful job, rebuilding your bridge, it looks great ! I will have to go back and catch up on your older videos.

So very good to see you both back! The bridge looks fantastic, will you treat the wood to help protect it? Love the idea of having tea on the deck over the river. Lovely to see you full of enthusiasm, try to limit yourselves as to the frequency that you put a video. We’d all hate for you to take another break from RUclips because you have reached burnout! This is just amazing work. I am loving this bridge renovation. Have you considered putting a water wheel hydro power under the bridge to harness the current? If will give you a small amount of power, enough to run some nice lights on the bridge. Keep up the great job.
Hello! Thank you so much 😃 Yes. In the winter it would be great, because we don’t get much power from sunlight and there’s enough current. In the summer the stream is slower. Sending love, Annie

What would be awesome is if you took those big boards you found in the shed and make some into tables for the deck of the bridge and take one of the longer slabs and make a bar/stand up area on the deck part of the bridge
It is always so easy when your partner is doing all the hard work of demolition. Thank your lucky stars that you did not have to rebuild the supporting structure of the bridge. @@AnnieJulian of course. It’s dangerous. I’m surprise you have to travel through it to get to you’re property if it’s private. It is a wonderful little area and I’m glad you have access.
i love the joy that you have ! do you know itchy boots ? you remind me of her great personality ! the bridge looks great ,however i was taught different about witch way to lay the boards we laid them the other way so that over time when the wood weathers it would slightly cup the other direction so as to shed water rather than cupping and holding it !
Thank you! That’s so sweet ❤️ No, I don’t know her. She’s riding the world on a motorbike alone? That’s cool! I know, several of you have mentioned it. I’m excited to see what happens to the boards. We learn all the time :) Lots of love, Annie
You should put on those cheap lil solar powered yard lights, perhaps at each post or similar, Id also treat the wood by painting on old used motor oil to help preserve it.
Annie your video just popped up so it looked interesting. I live in America and it looked beautiful there. Your video was great. It looked like you used regular wood. Myself I would have used pressure treated wood it will last much longer. I would put some type of sealer on it still. You did a very nice job. I have a compliment for you. You have a very pretty face. Stay safe.
Hello James 😊 I’m glad I popped up and that you enjoyed the video. It is pressure treated to last longer, and we plan to put oil on on a year or so, when it has dried 😊 Thank you so much! That is so sweet 😊 All the best to you, Annie
did you secure the boards to the rails themselves? Or ot is floating for? Also I would have put stabilizing paint on the rails because of the rust., Finally, do you plan on putting a protective coating on the wood as it doesn’t appear to be pressure treeated.
Hello. Thank you for your questions. Yes, you can see wooden planks on the sides of the iron train tracks. So it’s not floating. The wood is pressure treated, and when it has dried for a year, we can treat it with oil. Love, Annie
You keep showing that nice moving stream. I hope you have plans to use hydro electric power. It would give you better I power than solar and a lot more even power source. Good Luck. Lateur
I thought, "Oh, NO!" when she explained how they were laying the crown of the board down instead of up. I'm not an expert, but from what I have learned from observation, the boards should have been reversed. Now, I'm wondering which way is the "best" way for longer life of the boards.
good work ... did you consider a bridge from stones ? that could have been EPIC and would definitely handle whatever you throw at it and probably last for centuries
Thanks 😃 Honestly? No 😄 That would be pretty. I don’t really know how to work with stones. Especially if we have to lift them by hand 🏋️♀️ But you’re right. They last forever. Unlike wood. Love, Annie
@@AnnieJulian you don't need to lift them at the row size you can always split them ... if you managed to plan this so well, i'm sure you can plan this one out too ... stone bridge once it's there u'll never need to worry about it .. the learning curve may take some time but totally worth it
I remember having my squad (4 bridge launching tanks) build a bridge out of wood 8 guys and 2 days. I did the joints and made the wood dowels. Nails were used to join the 2x12's together for the deck. We had enough 2x12's to go across the span on end. We sized and squared up the logs the first day and demolished the original structure. At the end it was enough to hold 42 tons or we drove a lancher tank over without a bridge. Still four 14x14 timbers under a 12 inch thick deck can hold quite a bit. The funny part, many rural bridges in PA have the steel beams under them with 2x8, 10 or 12 on end for the decks. Like in Salt Springs State Park In Susquehanna County that the township repairs. Now I did put some 4x4 cross members in the top of the 14x14 beams for installing the side rails. I just looked at Google earth and it seems like someone put a metal roof over it. I can remember telling the old man that owned that property about putting a roof over it to keep the weather off of it.
PS I see that the wood was pressure treated - great. You perhaps could consider some 'chicken wire' along the tyre tracks to also try and minimise skidding (or something better).
Yes. Good eye! I did a little “speech” about it for the video, but it became a little long and probably boring - so we left it out. 😄 Chicken wire on the bridge?
A wonderful job of building that bridge. The little patio area is a genius idea, what a great spot to relax and have a coffee or tea.
Thank you so much. Yes, so cosy, thank you for noticing ☕️

i love the joy that you have ! do you know itchy boots ? you remind me of her great personality ! the bridge looks great ,however i was taught different about witch way to lay the boards we laid them the other way so that over time when the wood weathers it would slightly cup the other direction so as to shed water rather than cupping and holding it !
Thank you! That’s so sweet ❤️
No, I don’t know her. She’s riding the world on a motorbike alone? That’s cool!
I know, several of you have mentioned it. I’m excited to see what happens to the boards. We learn all the time :)
Lots of love,
Annie
You should put on those cheap lil solar powered yard lights, perhaps at each post or similar, Id also treat the wood by painting on old used motor oil to help preserve it.
Lights on the bridge… Hm. Perhaps a good idea. Yes, we will have to oil it a year from now, when it has had time to dry.
Love, Annie
That barn roof could produce so much solar power you could power your neighbours house too 😂
Sure could 😄 For now we only have solar power at the small cabin.
Stay safe.
Hello James 😊
I’m glad I popped up and that you enjoyed the video. It is pressure treated to last longer, and we plan to put oil on on a year or so, when it has dried 😊
Thank you so much! That is so sweet 😊 All the best to you,
Annie
did you secure the boards to the rails themselves? Or ot is floating for? Also I would have put stabilizing paint on the rails because of the rust., Finally, do you plan on putting a protective coating on the wood as it doesn’t appear to be pressure treeated.
Hello. Thank you for your questions.
Yes, you can see wooden planks on the sides of the iron train tracks. So it’s not floating.
The wood is pressure treated, and when it has dried for a year, we can treat it with oil.

You keep showing that nice moving stream. I hope you have plans to use hydro electric power. It would give you better I power than solar and a lot more even power source.
Good Luck. Lateur
Oh yes, we know 😉 Thanks!

Guess im going to have to subscribe to your channel, what an awesome watch ...
Amazing. Thank you!

The metallic profiles are made from weathered steel? Wood deck is nice but the beams beneath are more important.
I’m not sure about the steel. I just know they’re old train tracks.

Beautiful ❤
Thank you so much 🌷
You guys will have 100,000 viewers in no time.
You’re sweet 😊 That would be really cool 🤞

I thought, "Oh, NO!" when she explained how they were laying the crown of the board down instead of up. I'm not an expert, but from what I have learned from observation, the boards should have been reversed. Now, I'm wondering which way is the "best" way for longer life of the boards.
I’m no expert either, I guess we’ll have to see what happens then 😊

Nice that you are back!Btw..who are the two ladies that you mention? Should we recognize them?
Thanks 😍 Friends of ours from Denmark 🫶
good work ... did you consider a bridge from stones ? that could have been EPIC and would definitely handle whatever you throw at it and probably last for centuries
Thanks 😃 Honestly? No 😄 That would be pretty. I don’t really know how to work with stones. Especially if we have to lift them by hand 🏋️♀️ But you’re right. They last forever. Unlike wood.
Love, Annie
@@AnnieJulian you don't need to lift them at the row size you can always split them ... if you managed to plan this so well, i'm sure you can plan this one out too ... stone bridge once it's there u'll never need to worry about it .. the learning curve may take some time but totally worth it
I will keep this in mind 😊 Makes perfect sense. My grandfather used to build with stone ❤️
Good job greetings from sweden!
Hello Sweden 😍 Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. What a project!!

super job well done from durham uk
Hello John! Thank a lot ❤️

It would be nice to be able to incorporate a Water Wheel to remember the Mill and make Hydro power with it as well.
That would be amazing!!

Aww ❤️ Love to you 🫶
New subscriber! Enjoyed the video
Yay! Welcome ❤️ Hope you’ll enjoy it here.

If the rails/tracks came from the U.S. they should be stamped on the side with the maker and the year they were made. Did you see any?
Interesting! We didn’t see any. But they were pretty rusty 😅
