Did he win a championship? Three. Also League MVP, three years IN A ROW. Two times Finals MVP. Winner of the first three 3 point shootouts. Founding member of the 50-40-90 club. 12 time All Star, three time All Defensive team. Co Captain (with Magic Johnson) of the Olympic Dream Team. And on and on and on... Keep watching Bird videos. He's one of the all time greats. Just an amazing all around player. There's a video on how Bird schooled Jordan, another making the case for Larry as the GOAT, trash talking, fights and so many more. I watched his career as Boston fan and lived for the competition between him and Magic, Jordan, Dominique, the Bad Boy Pistons and other greats of the time. The league was much more physical then, with lots of banging, elbows, forearms and out and out fist fights. What a time it was to be a basketball fan. Keep watching Bird videos to understand him and the 80s era and you're in for a fun ride.
Wow he was going crazy I was just confused at the end of the video because it was a big crowd going in the middle of the floor lol 😂😂😂 like it was a fight or something
Good points!! But, remembering that Bird-Dominique game was just unreal. Gives me chills just thinking about how special that game was. 2 masters of their crafts at their peaks!
The coach that called timeout was K.C. Jones. One of the most respected coaches in Celtics history. Bird and Magic entered the nba the same year. Bird won rookie of the year. Bird won 3 rings. 3 consecutive MVP awards and was 2nd in mvp voting 6 times.
@@ChuckReactions Nah... He trusted Larry completely. K.C. was complaining to the refs and didn't realize Larry had shot the ball. K.C. is one of those guys who thought Larry was the best player in the game. R.I.P. to a Hall Of Fame player and coach...
@@ChuckReactions also, when KC Jones said "Larry told the bench I'm going right back to the same spot and kick it in" the "bench" Larry was addressing was the other team's bench.
3 point winner 3 years in a row. Then after playing he became a head couch and took Indiana to their only Finals. He was manager of the year then moved on to executive of the year. this is after winning MVP in college, MVP in pros and all star every year and on the Olympic team.
There are so many stories of Larry's trash-talking it is insane and he4 would not only do it to players but coaches. I mean you listen to players he played with or against and he trash-talked everyone. And if the other team put a white guy on him to guard him he felt disrepected big time.
James Worthy of the Lakers, a HOF player and one of the 50 best of all time, recounted a story of Bird trash-talking him -- telling him exactly how he was going to score, from where, and what he would do depending on how Worthy tried to defend. And then Bird did exactly that. Doing this at all would have been noteworthy, much less against a high-caliber defender, much less IN A PLAYOFF game. And one thing you might not have noticed, his "left-handed game" wasn't an off the cuff thing -- he told everyone the day before he was going to do it, including the media, which means the other team also knew he was playing with his left hand. One more thing -- that shot that didn't count, the video mentions that he went over to the bench and told them he was going to the same spot. He was referring to the OTHER team's bench.
Pat Riley, Coach of the LA Lakers said “If I had to choose a player to take a final shot to win a game I’d choose (Michael) Jordan, but if I could pick one to shoot to save my life I would pick Bird.” Jordan says he learned everything about trash talking from Bird. He saw how effective Bird was at getting in people's heads and disrupting their game.
@@mannyneva1760 What are you talking about? How could he retire Bird's number when he wasn't on his team? Stick to shit you know, if there is anything you know
For a fun fact, Larry Bird pretty much MADE the step back into a legit move. To give an analogy, while Michael Jackson didn’t invent the moonwalk, he sure as hell made it popular. In the same way, Larry Bird didn’t invent the step back, but he sure as hell popularized it to the point that other NBA legends (like Isiah Thomas and Dominique Wilkins) call the step back Larry Bird’s signature move. (And even today, the general consensus among a lot of basketball heads is that Larry Bird STILL has the best step back the NBA has ever seen) So in a lot of videos from his early career, you’ll see a lot of defenders falling to the floor whenever Larry did his step back. It wasn’t that they were bad defenders, they were actually GREAT defenders, it was just that none of them had ever SEEN a step back before and thus had NO IDEA what the hell it was or how in the world to handle it. Later on in his career, the rest of the league began to catch on and began coming up with ways to try and counter it, so it wasn’t quite as easy for Larry to drop guys to the floor with a step back anymore. But even then, even with people coming up with strategies to counter it, his step back was so good that he’d blow past them the vast majority of the time anyway
Good reaction, young man. Here's some info for you: Larry Bird was 6'9"at least, played 13 years (bad back cut short his career) and averaged 24 point per game, 10 boards, and 6 assists FOR HIS CAREER. Bird was Rookie of the Year, 3x NBA champion, 3x NBA MVP (and he won them consecutively, three years running). Larry was a 12x All Star, 9x All NBA 1st Team and 1x 2nd Team, 3x All NBA Defensive 2nd Team, and he was 2x Finals MVP. He was also All Star game MVP 1x and won the 3-pt shootout championship 3x.
@@ChuckReactions, you're welcome, and here are two more things I forgot: Larry also won Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year, the only player EVER who has won an MVP award and the Coach and Executive of the Year awards, too.
@@ChuckReactions In 98 as coach of the Pacers, they were the only team to force the Bulls to a game 7 in the ECF or the Finals in the championship years. And Ironically, as coach of the Pacers, they met the Lakers in the Finals and although they lost, in that Lakers 3 peat, they took them to 6 games in a year Shaq led the league in scoring and completed the MVP Hat Trick
Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, Larry's game reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, track & Field, soccer, poker, & strategic chess in his head, and that's what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!
I appreciated your reactions. You seemed a bit skeptical in the beginning, but I knew that the more you’d watch (and pause) the more you’d begin to realize his greatness. There is nobody better than Bird. He mastered the game of basketball as the game was intended to be played from every fundamental to the subtlest of nuances. No one ever played harder or ever shined brighter than Larry Bird. Since you really enjoy great passing you should probably check out: Larry Bird 50 greatest assist mix To understand how truly special he was. …and he averaged 10rbpg for his career too. …and he swept MJ 2x in their two playoffs series matchups 6-0 …and 3 straight league MVP’s …and 3 straight 3pt contest wins …and on and on and on! He’s the GOAT
@@ChuckReactions I guess it was your reaction to him being referred to as a trash talker and you implying that he shouldn’t, and that only MJ could, without understanding that he invented the art of trash talking and that even MJ credits Bird with teaching him the craft. You warmed up quick though..:) I just watched another one of your Bird reactions, and it’s so nice to see you enjoying him. BTW, that second ankle breaker was Dominique Wilkins! 😂 I really do hope that you’ll watch his 50 greatest assists mix. Your enthusiasm and humility to learn about the rich history of the past greats is refreshing and greatly respected. Keep up the good work.
Off all the greats of that era, Bird was the only player that bested Jordan. 3-0 in playoffs. He’s the only one Jordan wouldn’t trash talk. Larry trash talked a lot, but always backed it up.
Larry started his career with ROY,2nd,2nd,2nd,1st,1st,1st,2nd,2nd in MVP voting,3 championships, won every 3pt contest he was ever in(3). Founder and 2 time member of 50/40/90 club. Most clutch player EVER. Basketball genius
The night of his retirement the Boston Garden was packed, the thing is, there wasn't even a game that night. The place was standing room only just to say good bye to Larry Bird.
Welcome to the LEGEND! MY TRUE GOAT 🐐 Btw, your comment about Larry’s hustle play after @1:11 was ill-informed. Larry ran half the court after that ball!! You might see that full clip if you keep watching Larry Bird videos, it’s out there, as PROOF of how hard he hustled. NOBODY hustled harder than Bird. NOBODY. KEEP WATCHING.
Oh dang and I will search that video up and react to it appreciate it, in this video they were just focused on mid ranges and passing lol I didn’t know he was a good 3pt shooter 😂
Back then, the ‘80’s was REAL basketball. It was almost a contact sport. Today’s players couldn’t hang. LeBron stubs his toe and 3 guys carry him to the locker room
@@ZONEPRESSLLC oh... I did not know he was a trash talker....how about the great John havlicek...hell hit a ton of clutch and last second shots ..and of course the legendary steal....no one in Boston took a last second shot for 16 years unless John was covered well
He was the players player. Everyone wanted to be as lethal as bird who had no holes in his game. He could take on any entire team because he changed the flow of the game on the court.
Not only was he the best shooter around, but he was also the best passer around. Pump fakes and fake passes that had people looking in the opposite direction were his trademark. He could fake a shot, or fake a pass, and everyone could fall for it... because he was fully capable of both
"Larry Bird is the greatest trash talker and mind-game player of all time, he taught me EVERYTHING I know about getting in folks head" - Michael Jordan
Larry had an unreal basketball IQ, he saw just how plays were going to play out. And he studied tapes on his own, over and over, so he knew how his own teammates and players on other teams would react in different situations. That's how he made it look like he had eyes on the back of his head. It wasn't just luck or pure risk, it was all calculated. His record speaks for itself.
the Coach was KC Jones I believe and you should learn a little before criticizing him. He has 8 rings as a player, 1 as assistant coach and 3 as head coach (12 rings) and a perfect 8-0 as a player in the NBA championship It may have been a poorly timed, time out, but I trust his judgement in a game and Bird did hit the basket again putting them into overtime.
I've watched this mixtape on so many different channels with people reacting, but I have to say, this was one of the best reactions I've ever seen! Thank you very much! Looking forward to watching the other ones you posted!
You didn’t know if Larry would pass, step back or pump fake. He had nerves of steel and skills for days. He was a tough SOB battled injuries especially after his back injury in 1985. Great court vision and amazing but weird grace. Entertaining as f**k. Larry Bird was clear (Bill Murray: SpaceJam). Perhaps the most complete player the Game has ever seen. 3x MVP, Coach of the Year, Executive of the Year, founder of the 50-40-90 club, 3x 3 point contest winner.
When Bird smacked his face against the floor during that playoff game against the Pacers, while in the locker room getting treatment, the Celtics' trainer also said that Bird had suffered a concussion and told Larry he shouldn't play. When the trainer wasn't looking, Bird took off and went back into the game (the video shows him jogging back into the arena). In addition to the concussion, it was later revealed that Bird also suffered a fractured cheekbone from his face hitting the floor. Nonetheless, Bird came back and rallied the Celtics to victory, as the Celtics went on to win the series.
Larry and Magic's careers ran parallel to each other. They both played on the same US all star team in 1978. Then in '79 they played against each other in the NCAA Finals. Magic won that game. Then the next year they were both rookies in the NBA, Magic won the Finals as well as Finals MVP, Larry won Rookie of the year. From there on they were competing against each other as well as leading their teams to win again and again. And finally in 1992 they were the co-captains of the USA Olympic team, the "Dream Team" and of course won the gold together. If you look at their career stats and accomplishments they're very similar to each other. Also, Larry was the absolute most savage trash talker ever. Jordan learned to be a better trash talker from Larry. My top 3 all time are Magic, Jordan, and Larry.
First i want say it’s great to see young guns like yourself seeing the greatness of these old school guys and ask you to watch the “making the case” video by clayton crowley series, especially the Larry bird video. they are all educational if you want to learn about the older players. second James Worthy, who was considered the best player on an NCAA team that had jordan on it, said he would rather guard jordan than bird.
Larry was the founding member of the 50/40/90 club, clutch player 3 Championships 3 MVP. Larry played with a mangled finger. He got in college before he played basketball. Larry played with a career ending back injury from mid 85 to the end of his career. Paving a driveway for his mother. He didn't even take any pain meds. He lost the stability of his back. Before the games he had to be in a brace, get adjustments He would lay on the ground instead of sit on the bench. The Dr said it's like someone slamming a car door on your finger & keeps smashing it. The other teams knew where to get Larry. If you re-watch Larry vids, you can see dudes getting his back. Rodman was one. Add the Achilles injuries and surgeries on both feet(88/89). It's incredible he was able to do the things he did. Made all the records he did. I seriously doubt any of these new cats could do half of the things Larry did. I think it was 88/89 when Larry was injured. Two weeks into his time off. He got so bored. He started eating. A lot. He said he ate 10 gallons of ice cream and seven wedding cakes. He chose wedding cakes because he knew they would be good. He said "who would f up a wedding cake?" 😁 Classic Larry Legend
Bird and Magic were the rivals that became friends, a relationship so legendary they made a Broadway musical about it. But if you really want to know about it, the best documentary is “A Courtship of Rivals”. Also I recommend the “Making the Case” series of videos in which the case is made for the eight players who have a legitimate claim for the title of the Greatest of all time: Larry Bird, Magic, LeBron, Russell, Chamberlain, Duncan, Jabbar
I love these videos. People who have never seen Bird play go in a little skeptical. Then comes the first, "what? Let me watch that again." Then the second. Then the third. After that, people are just shaking their head at a Bird play. Some folks says he was good "for a white guy". No, McHale was good for a white guy. Bird is on a higher level. That Magic, Kareem, Kobe, and Jordan level. It was a different time back then.
I could tell you never heard much about the Birdman but you’re very observant and I was impressed with your knowledge of the game and you picked up very quickly a few aspects of Bird’s game that sometimes get overlooked like his big heart and his IQ. Great reaction, I recommend watching Making the Case Larry Bird, I think you’ll enjoy that video too.
😉 now you know how obsessed Larry fans are! Not sure how you know about Magic but not Bird or the Celtics, but you know Larry fans are happy to talk about Larry. ❤️ for Larry is off the charts. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Keep going on bird young buck there’s so many amazing things about this man from his shooting passing rebounding playing through 3 different what should have been career ending injuries not counting that fractured jaw that you just saw in the playoffs the the 3 titles he won to the 3 consecutive mvps he won being the most clutch player in history and most likely the biggest trash talker ever and being the only man to own an undefeated record against Jordan in the playoffs I could go on and on but great reaction and keep it up
Bird won THREE rings. Won the finals MVP 3x. Won league MVP 3x. Most clutch player I’ve ever seen. And he played in the league at the same time as Magic Johnson, and was just as good a passer, even though he was a forward. And Larry EARNED the right to trash talk because he backed that shit up. One of the greatest ever.
You wouldn't have basketball today without Magic and Bird. Ratings were so bad that play off games were being preempted for old movies until players like Bird, Magic, Kareem, and Erving started. They were before Jordan, they taught Jordan. Also Bird once had a toe infection and played for 3 weeks before seeing a doctor. Doc had to make a two inch incision so it could drain. Bird told him to wrap it and went on to play that very night. By the end the wrapping and sock were soaked in blood but he still played. THAT IS TRUE GREATNESS MY FRIEND. And I was one of the lucky S.O.B's that got to watch him through his entire career.
The problem today is that anyone not knowing who Bird was wouldn't find him otherworldly. The thing is, he was called "the great innovator" whereas a lot of things he did like stepbacks behind the back passes - those were unprecedented until then. Him and Magic revolutionized the game. You can find all information on his accomplishments on the internet it's easy. In short, 3 times 3pt contest champion 3 championships with the celtics and 12 all star appearances in his 13 seasons. Came into the NBA at the age of 23 though.
@ Chuck : Bird (vs Utah), back in 1985, 18 feb, -- had scored 30 pts, 12 rebs, 10 asts and [9]STEALS, and quit the game before the end of the third quarter,,,, wtf??!! --- yeah, 33 minutes played, and some of the Utah stat guys came down to inform the team that he was on the verge of a historic quadruple double, and Bird's reaction was: "Nah, I've done enough damage to them already" .... Bird had One full quarter to improve even on that outer-worldly 33 MINUTES, if you let that sink in, it still has my head spinning, just to try and conceive the amount of talent, IQ and skill that is required to come anywhere near such a box score, let alone to actually do that and even be "nonchalant" about it. His court vision has never been matched, by a country mile. This little extra feat - for me - lifted him to undisputed GOAT status, as an All Round basketball player.
Chuck I enjoyed your comments. You were being as honest as a man can be with the information you had on Bird. When you told Bird to not get crazy with those passes you almost lost that one. I was thinking wait a minute and you'll be saying that the whole video. Good luck with your channel. It's my first time hittin one of your videos. I'll hang with you a bit. The making the case videos are for eight players who have a legitimate claim to be the goat. If you watch those videos (with us) you'll have a good understanding of '80- '90s basketball.
3 consecutive years league MVP. 1984, 1985 & 1986. Only Bill Russell & Wilt Chamberlain had 3 consecutive league MVPs, no Jordan, no Magic, no Dr. J, no Lebron, etc.
27 points end of first half one handed. He had 43 by the end of that game. Fun facts of larry legend. Founder of 50/40/90 club, 3 time champ, 3 time mvp. Only person in history to win NBA MVP, coach of the year and executive of the year. Larry and magic played against each other in college and it was Larry in the east Magic in the west. Larry vs Magic was a legendary rivalry.
One of the things you have to remember is that basketball was a whole different ball game during the day a lot more contact back then and most people just look at Larry Bird and they see a white guy who's slow and can't jump they don't see the man who's got a basketball computer behind his eyes they don't see the man that spent from the time he was in Middle School all the way up oh he's on the ball team at school but he was out playing with the waiters and the staff at a local hotel every day they were all older than him they'd let him play and they were good to him and that's all he asked and he learned which is why when you get to watching him when he's really trash talking you'd think that he came up playing in Harlem because he's got those mannerisms he's got that style and he's got that written determination all in all Larry was a goat.
OK Youngster. Here's the pedigree on KC Jones, the coach you denegrated for calling a time out. As a player, he won 2 NCAA championships and 8 NBA championships (tied for third all time behind Bill Russell's 11 and Sam Jones' 10). BTW, he won those 8 NBA championships in just 9 seasons. As an assistant coach, he won 2 NBA championships and as a head coach, he also won 2 NBA championships. In total, he was part of 12 NBA championship teams as a player, assistant coach and head coach. He won an Olympic Gold Medal as part of the 1956 US Men's basketball team. He is in he Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, College Baskeball Hall of Fame and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. His 1985-86 Celics were 67-15 (40-1 at home) and are arguably one of the best teams in NBA history.
Bird won 3 championships. Won 3 3 point contests in a row.,Rookie of the year, defensive player of the year, scoring leader, retired then coach of the year, and then executive of the year. Won everything
Larry Bird was my idol growing up in Kentucky in the 80s. To me, he was and is the GOAT. The man had the BEST fakes of anyone...ever. That's why defenders were ending up in heaps on the floor, because they had to respect his shot, his passing, AND his ability to drive with the ball. You saw him, sometimes his shooting was just unconscious. I think there was 5 or 6 scenes of him posterizing people, so it's not like he really couldn't jump, even though that was his rep. Yeah, he wasn't the fastest player on the court, but he didn't need to be. He had the highest basketball IQ and court vision of anyone I've ever seen. Thanks for reacting to this vid!
I'm old enough to remember that before Larry Bird won his three consecutive MVPs he was second runner up three times and after those three consecutive NBA MVPs he was running up twice. He won the three-point contest 3 times in a row and was the founding member of the 50/40-90 club.
Wanna talk about 3 point shooting? Larry Won the 3 point shooting contests THREE years in a row. Won three championships. Won the league MVP award three years running (only one of three to do it, along with Bill Russel and Wilt Chamberlain). Was voted league MVP either #1 or #2 for 8 years straight. All star team 12 years out of 13 (out for surgery one year). College player of the year. NBA Rookie of the year. Coach of the year. NBA executive of the year. Hall of fame. Despite his back injury, averaged a lifetime 24 points per game and 10 rebounds. And the most clutch player that ever lived.
Just remember all these guys today picked up and learned then added their thing to it. Imagine what basketball will be like in 30 years learning from the Today's Guys.
Hey, I'm not sure why my comment got deleted... I'll write a shorter version. Awesome reaction, Larry Legend was amazing, my fav "old school" player! He was before my time as well, I'm not that much older than you. Thanks to the internet we could learn about and appreciate these legends! I got into basketball as a kid in the mid 2000s, 2003 to be exact- watching NBA, playing it IRL, in video games, etc. In fact, I remember playing NBA Live 2003 and NBA Street Vol. 2, my two fav basketball games ever- check them out! So yeah, I'm glad I got to see the 2000s legends in their prime, like Kobe, Shaq, Tmac, Yao, AI, Dirk, Duncan, KG, Pierce, Allen, Peja, Marion, Kirilenko, etc. My fav player growing up was Andrei Kirilenko (AK47), he was a rare beast on both ends, especially elite on defense bc of his crazy athleticism - 37 inch vert at 6'9 and 7'4 wingspan, timing, instincts, hustle, etc. He had 3 5x5s (games with at least 5 pts, 5 rebs, 5 ast, 5 blk, 5 stl) in his career, 2nd most to Hakeem the Dream, who had 6! It's the most rare statistical feat in the game! He was also the only SF position player to lead the league in blocks per game in a season, and average over 3 BPG (twice), and the shortest other than Ben Wallace (6'9 or under) to do so. He is the only player in history to finish a season top 4 in Stl and Blk! So yeah, just some facts so you get an idea about him! It would be awesome if you could react to his highlights, there is a really good one by Andrew Mitchell, about 7 and a half minutes long: ruclips.net/video/E50MCQs2xPM/видео.html And another awesome one around the same length, with detailed analysis of stats and how he would do in today's game, with highlights in the background! ruclips.net/video/eak73CVfQHk/видео.html You will definitely like them, especially if you appreciate defense and rare stats! Also, he had some flashy passing similar to Bird! He had other similarities with Bird, like the hustle and heart, but Bird was better offensively, and AK defensively and athletically. Combined, they would be unstoppable! Anyway, I would really appreciate reactions to those videos! You have a new sub btw :)
First time watching you,I liked your personality and the way you were open to praisingthe abilities of the old gaurd!!… I am subscribed now and recieving notifications👍🏼
Bird won 3 back 2 back 3pt contest ,3 back 2 back mvp (only him ,wilt,Russell did that ) he was the first MR OG 50-40-90 2 years back 2 back ,and 3 rings in 5 championship ROY, coach of the year ,player of the month ,and then executive of the year (only person to do that ) injuries set in ,he did all this in 13 yrs ,and he talked the whole game ,i grew up on him #LB33 ❤🐦
A lot of the clips are put of context. For instance, the game vs the pacers , he fractured his face and was a decisive playboff game. The steal by bird was also a decisive play off game. He won 3 3pt competition in a row, founding member of the 40 60 90 club, 3 times consecutively mvps only 2 other players accomplished this and is not MJ nor Kobe nor Lebron. 12 time all star, (played 13 season, the season that wasn’t all star, he actually did not play, had surgery) 2 time mvp finals, and in the first finals he played the award was not given to him because he was a sophomore, even though he was the best player. 3!rings. he played more than half of his career with an injury that was career ending injury for a lot of players, but not for him. He used to wear a body brace, then a doctor would align his spine for the game, then go back to the brace. When he retired took the brace to the fields and destroyed it with a shotgun. He had no quit in him. Read about him, his dad commented suicide, he went to Indiana university and hated it, it was to big and Bobby knight was a jerk so he quit, went back to French lick and worked as a garbage man and he was proud of it. Eventually he was persuaded to go to a smaller university, called Indiana state, with a very unsuccessful basketball program and took them to the finals with a record of 33-0, the final was played vs Michigan state, with a young star named Earvin Magic Johnson. Birds team lost, Michigan had a better team and Indiana only had bird. After loosing, his team mates invited him to party to celebrate the 2nd place, but bird replied, no gotta go to train. This is an example of true determination. Just read or watch more about him. By the way the flagrant fail was on Kurt rambis, and was the result of the previous game. The previous game the lakers beat the Celtics badly and bit called his teammates a bunch of sissies because they just played a game with fear. So the next game they came out to prove that they weren’t cowards. If I’m not mistaken Kevin McHale applied the foul to Kurt
OK, i have to stop 1:47 minutes in because you are speaking before you watch, you haven't watched but a tiny bit, and you are already talking shit on LARRY LEGEND ! Stop doing that ! Dude, just remember larry bird was before jordan, so.... larry is pulling a larry move, not a jordan move. I love jordan too !
I loved the change of mind about trash talking... 1. Only MJ should trashtalk 2. Well, Larry can trash talk a little....but not too much... Keep watching. You'll see that not only was the KING of trash talking, he was the KING of always backing it up. So...he's not REALLY trash talking.. he's just speaking facts. 😄 And yeah, MJ learned how good using the mental game was BECAUSE of Larry. Larry and Magic were rivals in college...started in the NBA in '79, though Larry was drafted in 78. Became best friends...still are. Look up Larry's accolades. It's a long one. 3 MVPs...in row (and was 1st -3rd 8 years in a row) 3 championships 3 3pt contests in a row The FOUNDER of the 50/40/90 club...and did it twice. Etc. It's a who's who list in basketball. Larry's a Legend, ya know. 😉
Larrys step back and pump fakes were something else, Ive heard other Celtics players say Larry used everything to misdirect defenders and opposing players, body language, eye movement, shoulder jerks, all kinds of stuff to make guys just drop like they were tripping on their own feet. we cant see a lot of that subtle stuff in videos but it must be true the videos seem to back it up. He really got the job done for a guy that wasnt very fast and couldnt jump too high. Most of the time Larry was unguardable, even when his shot was blocked by two or even three players in an effort to shut him down Larry always found a pass that got the ball where it needed to be. Larry was a master at misdirection and could always be counted on in clutch situations. Larry Legend.
At end of 70’s playoff games weren’t even televised live until Bird & Magic entered the league. Their rivalry saved the nba and MJ took it global. I was a showtime fan but Bird was the best player in the 80’s again MJ took over in the 90’s. Bird was founder and repeat 50/40/90 club. Watch making the case for goat prospects.
Bird is the greatest small forward ever……He won 3 consecutive MVP awards & ended his career with 3 NBA championships……..Bird was also on the greatest team ever assembled the 1992 Olympic Dream Team which won a gold medal.
he won 3 rings and three consecutive league MVP awards with Magic ,Kareem, Jordan, Hakeem, and the Bad boys pistons in the league. won rookie of the year and won three consecutive three point contests. also career double digit rebounder.
The coach was KC Jones . He had a total of 12 championship rings . Also he called the timeout right as the ball was being thrown in ,that's why it didn't count .
@@ChuckReactions That was the Indiana playoff game where his face hit the court. Pacers were up 18 and Larry dropped 17 points and, I believe, 7 assists in the fourth quarter alone to lead that comeback! With a broken face! Also, the 76's were the only team besides Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers to win a championship in the 80's (1983). All the others belong to these two legends. And, they saved the NBA. Look it up!
@@ChuckReactions the guys you are watching play in an era with no contact or palming or traveling called....rule changes give that some thought my friend...bird and the other older players got the snot beat out if them often
He is the ultimate trash talker to this day, you need to watch more of him and what the most legendary NBA greats have to say about him. He backed all of the talk.
Bird won 3 titles, 2 playoff mvps, 3 straight season mvps in a row . In the 80s bird got 75 % of all 1st place mvp votes. also Bird averaged 24.3 ppg, 10 rpg, 6.3 apg 1.8 steals per game. 1 block a game for his career
Larry is the GOAT!!!! I hope you read the recommendations below so I won't bother reiterating what everyone else has probably said... I am going to subscribe in hopes you do more reactions to Larry. Have a great day if you ever see this comment... from a 42 year old woman from Indiana :)
Bird and magic were rookies together in the 1979- 80 season. Bird won Rookie of the Year and Magic won a title. I'm pretty sure Bird would like to trade those two things. They absolutely play very similar games, with the biggest difference being Larry was a better shooter and magic was just a tiny bit better passing. Up until the early to mid-90s, they were absolutely the 1 and 1A top NBA players ever. There is no one in today's NBA as good as these two were
Jordan was my favorite player to watch, but I enjoyed the Boston/ L.A. rivalry in the '80s with Bird and Magic. Edit:. I saw some of the commenters saying don't pause it so many times & want to say that it's ok with me. I like to see a good move, pass or shot again. Also, it's YOUR reaction video and that's what I want to see and hear.
@@ChuckReactions oh, because all the other talented nba players during the 80's didn't seem to have the drive to win at all costs like Larry & Magic. They were the sparkplugs, the heart of their teams, and to see them go head to head in the finals was always guaranteeing Classic games! Don't get me wrong. I know their teammates were great too, like Kareem, Worthy, Parish, DJ & McHale and there were others on different teams that were great like Dominique, Barkley, etc.
That step back is the white guy version of the cross over But Bird did that to perfection ... always caught the guy on the wrong foot it seemed Great commentary bud

Why did he do that lol he was wide open 😂 he didn’t trust him?
@@ChuckReactions Nah... He trusted Larry completely. K.C. was complaining to the refs and didn't realize Larry had shot the ball. K.C. is one of those guys who thought Larry was the best player in the game. R.I.P. to a Hall Of Fame player and coach...

@@ChuckReactions Keep digging on Larry, you’re gonna have a very good time buddy 😉
@@venetoaward lol
Pat Riley, Coach of the LA Lakers said “If I had to choose a player to take a final shot to win a game I’d choose (Michael) Jordan, but if I could pick one to shoot to save my life I would pick Bird.”
Jordan says he learned everything about trash talking from Bird. He saw how effective Bird was at getting in people's heads and disrupting their game.
I like this one
He never said he learned EVERYTHING about trash talking from Larry😂🤣and Pat Riley did say that and then he retired number 23 not 33 in Miami 🤣✌🏽
(And even today, the general consensus among a lot of basketball heads is that Larry Bird STILL has the best step back the NBA has ever seen)
So in a lot of videos from his early career, you’ll see a lot of defenders falling to the floor whenever Larry did his step back.
Thanks for the information I understand now lol

Before the games he had to be in a brace, get adjustments
He would lay on the ground instead of sit on the bench.

The problem today is that anyone not knowing who Bird was wouldn't find him otherworldly. The thing is, he was called "the great innovator" whereas a lot of things he did like stepbacks behind the back passes - those were unprecedented until then. Him and Magic revolutionized the game.

It would be awesome if you could react to his highlights, there is a really good one by Andrew Mitchell, about 7 and a half minutes long:
ruclips.net/video/E50MCQs2xPM/видео.html
And another awesome one around the same length, with detailed analysis of stats and how he would do in today's game, with highlights in the background!
ruclips.net/video/eak73CVfQHk/видео.html
You will definitely like them, especially if you appreciate defense and rare stats!
He won the very first three 3 point contests held, in a row. 86, 87, 88.
That’s good
A lot of the clips are put of context.
I really took my time reading this and I really appreciate the information you have gave me 🙏🏾
OK, i have to stop 1:47 minutes in because you are speaking before you watch, you haven't watched but a tiny bit, and you are already talking shit on LARRY LEGEND ! Stop doing that ! Dude, just remember larry bird was before jordan, so.... larry is pulling a larry move, not a jordan move. I love jordan too !
Larry Bird was the guy that will hit 3s like God came down to him and said. I will give you 3s at birth.
Lol
I loved the change of mind about trash talking...
1. Only MJ should trashtalk
2. Well, Larry can trash talk a little....but not too much...
Keep watching. You'll see that not only was the KING of trash talking, he was the KING of always backing it up. So...he's not REALLY trash talking.. he's just speaking facts. 😄
And yeah, MJ learned how good using the mental game was BECAUSE of Larry.
Larry and Magic were rivals in college...started in the NBA in '79, though Larry was drafted in 78. Became best friends...still are.
Look up Larry's accolades. It's a long one.
3 MVPs...in row (and was 1st -3rd 8 years in a row)
3 championships
3 3pt contests in a row
The FOUNDER of the 50/40/90 club...and did it twice.
Etc. It's a who's who list in basketball. Larry's a Legend, ya know. 😉
Wow I really took my time in this one thanks
you've been sleepin' on the bird. ain't seen nothing yet.
Watch making the case for goat prospects.
thanks for the request i will get to it and i have heard about that he was on the 50/40/90 club lol he is a goat for that
Bird is the greatest small forward ever……He won 3 consecutive MVP awards & ended his career with 3 NBA championships……..Bird was also on the greatest team ever assembled the 1992 Olympic Dream Team which won a gold medal.
he's a goat
he won 3 rings and three consecutive league MVP awards with Magic ,Kareem, Jordan, Hakeem, and the Bad boys pistons in the league. won rookie of the year and won three consecutive three point contests. also career double digit rebounder.
The coach was KC Jones . He had a total of 12 championship rings . Also he called the timeout right as the ball was being thrown in ,that's why it didn't count .
RIP 🙌🏾
3 championships, 3 straight MVPs, 3 straight 3 pt contest winner and others.
He’s the greatest
Larry had a broken cheek, concussion, double vision, had someone distract the team doctor. Went back to the game. THAT'S a badass troop.
That’s crazy
@@ChuckReactions That was the Indiana playoff game where his face hit the court. Pacers were up 18 and Larry dropped 17 points and, I believe, 7 assists in the fourth quarter alone to lead that comeback! With a broken face!
Also, the 76's were the only team besides Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers to win a championship in the 80's (1983). All the others belong to these two legends.
And, they saved the NBA. Look it up!
@@Kennyindia wow he is true legend
@@ChuckReactions the guys you are watching play in an era with no contact or palming or traveling called....rule changes give that some thought my friend...bird and the other older players got the snot beat out if them often
@@senseichess8688 lol
Nobody backed up his trash talk better than Larry Bird.
👀👀
Magic and he battled constantly. Still best friends. They played severe defense back than
I love to see that
He is the ultimate trash talker to this day, you need to watch more of him and what the most legendary NBA greats have to say about him.
I heard about it lol thanks for all the information check out my recent video about Larry Bird 🙌🏾
Got into watching bball cause of Bird and Magic back in the 80's.
Nice and check out my new video
Larry is the GOAT!!!! I hope you read the recommendations below so I won't bother reiterating what everyone else has probably said... I am going to subscribe in hopes you do more reactions to Larry. Have a great day if you ever see this comment... from a 42 year old woman from Indiana :)
I will do and thanks for the sub and shout out to you ma’am
@@ChuckReactions may have to unsub since ya called me old lol. Just kidding.
@@amberburris5674 naaa lol wasn’t like that lol
@@ChuckReactions Not gonna unsub... just playing lol.
@@amberburris5674 ik lol
That hawks player he crossed up at the beginning of the video was hall of famer Dominique Wilkins
Wow
Bird has been called the most complete player since Oscar Robertson....so how about the reaction to Oscar?
I got you thanks check out my recent about Michael Jordan
Bird and magic were rookies together in the 1979- 80 season. Bird won Rookie of the Year and Magic won a title. I'm pretty sure Bird would like to trade those two things. They absolutely play very similar games, with the biggest difference being Larry was a better shooter and magic was just a tiny bit better passing. Up until the early to mid-90s, they were absolutely the 1 and 1A top NBA players ever. There is no one in today's NBA as good as these two were
I can agree about the differences lol
Watch more Larry Bird videos.
R
3 championships, three consecutive mvps, three finals mvps ,12 time all-star
I just heard about it I just made another reaction about Larry Bird and they were talking about it, the video will be up soon be ready
Why did you like the rivalry?
@@ChuckReactions oh, because all the other talented nba players during the 80's didn't seem to have the drive to win at all costs like Larry & Magic. They were the sparkplugs, the heart of their teams, and to see them go head to head in the finals was always guaranteeing Classic games!
Don't get me wrong. I know their teammates were great too, like Kareem, Worthy, Parish, DJ & McHale and there were others on different teams that were great like Dominique, Barkley, etc.
Oh I got you
He won three 3-pt contests in a ROW! ON the fourth, he was hurt, and didn't participate. He also won three League MVP's in a ROW!
That step back is the white guy version of the cross over
But Bird did that to perfection ... always caught the guy on the wrong foot it seemed
Great commentary bud
Thanks
Broke his cheek. Came back and played. He always played hurt. Broken finger…played. Today? No way.
Lol
